It was a very hard morning. My sister left in tears - she was our little Mocha Latte’s Foster Mom and saying goodbye to the kitten (and probably to me) was very rough. And we both know it is likely years before we will see each other again. And even tho in some ways we are NOT close, she is the closest thing to my mom that I have left (and vise versa).
MIL bday today, so I’ve got to be on the go all day. I hope Mocha settles in fine today without much of my sister’s smell left in the room. I’m getting very worried about MIL memory. I’ve mentioned it to my husband but he doesn’t see it. The restaurant she chose to go to her birthday lunch today is one of my favourites - and one she and I have gone together to on a number of occasions. But John said he got the impression it was a new restaurant she had never tried when he spoke to set up lunch. I’m hoping he just misunderstood. On another note, I will be driving myself to lunch to meet them! What an odd (but good) feeling that realization gives me.
I’m afraid all I can do at the moment is short drive by posts and kitten pictures, but I am reading to catch up - usually a page at a time, so warm thoughts to all, Congrats to the celebrating and/ or accomplished! (Especially Janet- I’m glad you’ve had some wonderful family stuff to counteract the drama!)
The requisite kitten picture: Mocha and sister say goodbye:

Janetr: Congratulations on the new baby great-grand. I love how your love flows to all the kids and grands regardless of bloodlines.
Dana: Lots of prayers to all in Panama City, especially your daughter and her kids.
Michele: I agree with Barbie's advice. Go the Thanksgiving to be with Denise and squeeze all the fun and happiness you can out of the opportunity. Maria will be Maria. You and Vince will have a great test of your spiritual principles. Respond with grace. ((hugs))
Barbie: "feeling like old fit and energetic self" = best news I've seen today!!! Yay.
Machka and anyone else who struggles with meditation: I'm a daily meditator, and can't say enough about the free app Insight Timer. Guided meditations work best for me. A 10-15 minute infusion of calm, positive grounding gets my day started well. I pick one meditation I really like and do it daily for at least two weeks. My mind strays in and out of focus, which is natural. But eventually, my subconscious really latches onto the core message, and change happens. I'm currently working on 'compassion', a trait that doesn't come easily to me, but which I need in truckloads to deal with my DH.
Mary: Kudos to your DH for his courageous action.
KJ: Trentin is so lucky to have you in his life for the stability, love and enrichment you provide.
Rye: Keep the kitty pix coming. I always get a lump in throat saying goodbye to family. Like you, it's rare that I get to see them. And separation from a beloved fur-baby sets off my faucets. Enjoy your drive and the lunch with MIL.
Gotta run. Have a plumber coming this AM to repair leaking toilet. Ugh.
Stay well. We can do this..

Aargh 2 lbs up. Can't blame entirely on visitor indulgences, owning up to sloppy logging and overly optimistic exercise estimates. Less than 2 months from next MD check in. Gonna borrow Heather's and other's "bonus exercise calories" approach and NOT eat 'em up.
Heather thanks for the Robert Plomin Blueprint recommendation. Alas, not yet available from my library and a little spendy to buy.
SueBDew Ditto what Sharon said, Sit, Brazos, STAY!
Carol my planks have been knee planks. Yesterday morning tried a full body-to-toe plank and collapsed in less than 3 seconds
Ginger in TX welcome back, loved the image of Texas handing Mother Nature a beer.
Rye I'm with Mocha Latte about the hat. Love Kidd Kirby's velvet draped refuge.
Mary your husband is a knight in shining armor, bless him!
Dana Is there any way for her to get in the house to unplug any surviving electronics/appliances before power is restored? Could keep them from being fried as happened to my friend last year. Trust FEMA will be better organized now due the alarming frequency of these natural disasters.
Barbie so happy to hear you felt like your fit and energetic self. Likewise thankful you rested instead of planting bulbs. Tomorrow will be soon enough...
Karen in VA just said to Joe this morning "if you remember the 60s you weren't really there..." "half carat" LOL!
NYKAREN "carry all my worries into my sleep" yup, where they are exaggerated and distorted into nightmares. Makes me thankful to wake up in this time and place no matter what the worries are! Well done for keeping at maintenance weight, you are an inspiration!
Rye what a mix, sad for sister departing and MIL memory, triumphant driver's license accomplishment.
Rory "...a great test of your spiritual principles" beautifully said. Second the Insight Timer suggestion lots of guided meditations and the option of simple silence with bell sounding completion.
A little mistier/foggier/cooler this morning, perfect digging weather. Want to open up a row/bed and prep the soil with lime, compost, even cover crop for spring. Would love to start a compost heap but afraid kitchen waste will draw Mr. Big Bear back. Don't have many leaves, mostly spruce needles and cones, would they decompose? Actually considering a [shudder] worm system but just don't know if I can bear all those wigglers close to the house. Any tips?
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.
60 g protein 11/15, rx/vits 10/15, meditate 9/15, walk one more step 14/14, knee exercises 9/15, core 3/8, walk Tumble 1/8 times, SWSY 0/4, hang up or purge art 0/0, AF 11/15.

He is not much of a reader, so I am thinking I will find some books at his reading level at the library and see if I can suck him into the book world. He is seven and interested in things that are a little scary, gross, or scientific. For those of you that have early readers (age 7/8) do you have any book or series suggestions? KJ (Kelly)
Kelly I will respond directly to you regarding this.
My daughter is an avid reader and has managed to convince my grandson that he likes to read too. He says he doesn't but she has found some books that have piqued his interest.
Geronimo Stilton - There are several series of these. Geronimo is a mouse journalist, she started reading these to my Grandson at age 3-4 but now at age 7 he is starting to read them himself. They started out with the fantasy series where Geronimo goes to a kingdom to save a fairy. There is also a caveman, mystery and space themed series.
If he likes scary, she recommends Goosebumps. She also suggested Bailey School Kids and Wayside School, these two she said may be trickier to find as they were ones she read at that age. She also suggests Animorphs, but may be a little advanced and A Wrinkle in Time.
We have not been able to keep her in books and at one time had to ground her from reading to get her to do her homework. I bet you she will be thinking about this question for several days and will come up with more suggestions.
Tracey in Edmonton1 -
Kelly I asked my grandson. He recommends Goodnight Goon - A Petrifying Parody by Michael Rex. He also recommends the Grossology and the Animal Grossology books by Sylvia Branzei.
Karen in Virginia1 -
Dana - I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's house. Is she without a job because her workplace was damaged or because she had to move? Is there assistance available for these situations in the States?
Sharon - I think Calgary gets that better weather more than we do here, but this is definitely one of the worst years I have experienced here weather wise. I am truly dreading the Winter as the Farmer's Almanac says we are going to have a dreadfully cold and snowy one.
Lisa - I don't think I would like the caves or ships due to claustrophobia. My first experience with it I was in my early 20's. I had gone to the States with my husband in the truck. We were in a questionable are of New York and were sleeping in the bunk. I woke up feeling as if I was suffocating, I wasn't sure what to do so I opened the bunk door, trying very hard not to wake my husband. He work up about 5 minutes later, screaming at me, in not so nice words asking me if I was trying to get us killed. I hadn't thought about the fact I was leaving us vulnerable to anyone being able to enter the truck, I was just trying to breathe. I ended up sitting in the front passenger seat to sleep. The next nights we didn't close the bunk curtains tight and I seemed to be fine.
Rye - I think sometimes it is hard to admit there is a problem with your parent. My brother did not believe my Mother was having the issues that she was at first either. It took a huge financial failure on my Mom's part before he started looking at it seriously. In fairness, I had noticed some issues but thought at first it was stress of dealing with my Dad's cancer, and then grief after he passed that was making her forget things. She probably should have been looked at about 18 months sooner than she was but we made excuses.
I received a response from the Nursing Home that my Mom is in and they have set up a system so that I can contact my Mom! - They gave me the RN cell phone number and have asked if I could text it before calling. They will tell me if this is a good time to talk to mom and what extension I should call if it is. They will have mom available to talk! Thank you to everyone that suggested I ask this question! I am so happy now that I'll be able to hear her voice!
She recorded a story book for my Grandson in 2015 and my granddaughter has learned how to push the buttons to "read" the story on her own in the last few weeks. It's been nice hearing her voice on that, but it will be nice to hear her saying other things than Frosty the Snowman. It's funny, at one point in the book she sort of laughs a bit and my granddaughter mimics that part every time she listens to it, she thinks it's part of the story, just like yelling Stop when the policeman is trying to stop Frosty.
I have all of my little snowmen dressed in their hats and scarves, tonight I will add their embellishments to get them finished. Hopefully I can finish the painting on the other snowmen faces and get their hats on as well. I talked to hubby last night about his lack of woodburning. I told him if he would just do what needed to be done for the shows I have already registered us for I wouldn't sign up for anymore. He seemed incredulous and asked me why I wouldn't do more? I told him he didn't seem too interested in it this year. He said he hadn't taken into account the time that I needed once he was done burning to finish the ornaments and thought he had lots of time still. He is the designer of the ornaments and without him I can't do my part. He has promised me he will start tonight.
Tracey in another sunny day in Edmonton!

Well, my friends. I t has been ANOTHER of those days.
I am tearing my hair out getting our agent to understand about agreeing to a completion date. I must have explained it to him half a dozen times. At least the removal company still have our slot available.
Tomorrow I hope we will get some sense out of our buyers. It is even possible we may exchange.
I have batted back and forth around eight emails today and lost my temper on multiple occasions. DH even spoke to him on the phone and told him what he thought.
Our buyer's have signed and have paid a deposit. But I still haven't heard about the completion/moving date. :noway:
This morning after firing off irate emails I went to yoga. It took me a while to calm down. We did a lot of intensive breathing exercises. They were good and I got a big hug from my teacher.
This afternoon I did a fast run time! All that adrenaline! ! !
So, we inch a bit closer, but our agent and our buyers are still a complete mystery to me. Everyone else seems perfectly reasonable.
Tomorrow is DH's 73rd birthday. Yesterday we bought a lovely bottle of champagne, some scallops and chorizo for a starter and Dover Sole and asparagus for a main. He has tarte au citron for dessert. He couldn't decide on a main present, but I have got him a few small bits to open in the morning in bed. Chocolate truffles, posh ginger biscuits, socks that don't have a grip top and a HUGE new biography of Churchill.
We will be waiting to hear about exchange, but if we do, we may be able to get out for a stroll somewhere. Neither of us has felt much like celebrating our birthday this year.
Much love to all. Hoping to stay sane and not kill someone, Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -

Janetr--Congrates on the new family member, he is so tiny and cute. Thanks for sharing DGS post, that is so speical.
Barbie--Sounds like you and doing fine, and you will be back in time. Glad you are taking it slow.
Michele--Sorry you are sad about Christmas. I am off Thanksgiving so planning a dinner for part of our children and grands as can't get my DS and DSD in the same place without a big fight. So don't try anymore. Most the children are going to the other side of the family.
Machka--Sending Hugs! Please just take it one day at a time.
Pip--Kirby is a really nice guy and you both are lucky to have each other.
Heather--You are so much better at this waiting then I would be.
Dana--So sorry about DD's house. Thank God her and family are ok. What a mess.
Tracey--How cute!
Blessings, Vicki GI NE2 -

Back to the gym after our rock festival weekend. I took yesterday off to rest. Today I did 50 minutes Elliptical followed by 40 minutes of arms/shoulder training. Tomorrow I'll have to opt for another DVD session as we have an appointment to purchase a car early afternoon. I despise doing this. I owned my first SUV for 12 years, the second for 14 years, it's that time again *sigh*. Excited, then again not. Know what I mean? Exercise helps keep me in a good mood. Going to need a lot of it! LOL

Dana, I’m so sorry about your daughter’s house and her job situation, the amount of damage is just awful, South Georgia is pretty bad, too, around Lenora’s neck of the woods. I hope she checks in soon. My cousin’s house in Port St Joe is also uninhabitable. Another cousin hooked her family up with a camper so that they aren’t completely homeless.

My new red winter coat arrived today. It's from L.L. Bean and all the reviews say that it's perfect for winter in Maine. Since it was 60 degrees when the coat arrived, the coat seemed excessive, but it will be perfect for dog walking from November to March.7

Did the Slim in 6 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Denise called yesterday while I was at mahjongg. Seems she “has something for us” and wants to Skype today. Since Vince has to go to the eye doctor, we told her anytime between 1 and 4. Vince thinks it’s to tell us she’s pg. In a way I hope not. They need to get more financially set first. But then again, this is probably what Maria wants. Well, we shall see what this “something” is. When they called the other day, Pete talked about how they were looking at townhomes and there was one that he could get qualified for. I’m thinking that Dave (the father) is sick of them and the dog living there and so they’re probably giving Denise and Pete money towards this townhome. Now, Denise hasn’t mentioned anything at all about it.
For some reason, I just could not sleep last night. I guess I finally fell asleep around 4, but then was up at 6 to exercise
M – good for you getting “me” time!!!!
Newcomers: Sandi just emailed Adra, Greg and myself saying that she can’t be webmaster. Now previously Greg indicated that he wanted to phase out because he had other commitments. If that’s the case, Adra really doesn’t have the knowledge to be webmaster and I know I don’t. If Greg is going to be webmaster, I’m out of membership. I was planning to be out but after talking to Sandi decided to stay on for her, she’s a really nice person. But I was WAY too hurt before so if Greg is going to do it, I’m out. I think he told Adra that if someone updates the website it will automatically update the mail list. The two are independent. It could probably be done with a lot of custom coding, which Greg doesn’t have the knowledge to do. He had this “wonderful” idea that members would input their own information. He felt that we shouldn’t have to do it. In a perfect world that’s the case. But I’ve been doing this too long and know that a lot of members won’t do it. Besides, we ask for information on the application that they fill out and then we ask them to input the exact same information? Not going to happen. So we shall see what happens…
Rori – maybe you’re right. Denise and Pete are looking forward to us coming up there. Perhaps I should just be the bigger person.
Yup, we talked to Denise and Pete. She is pg. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I guess I wish they had waited until at least they had a house. I just can’t believe that after being together for 13 years, she didn’t get pg. But less than a year after they are married and living with his parents, she gets pg. I have a feeling they were trying. It’s hard knowing that Bryan knew even before us, so did Maria, she’ll get to see Denise all the time as her belly is growing – I won’t. She’s due around May 11 or 12. My MIL’s birthday was May 10. As a middle name for if it is a girl they’re going to use MIL’s name and FIL’s for the middle name if it’s a boy. I guess I just need to process this all.
Went to Rummikub tonight.

Oh Michele so happy you are going to be a grandma. You will be a wonderful grand parent.
Still raining and river still rising. Didn’t feel well enough to go to Y with DH. Maybe tomorrow.

My daughter was in Hurricane Michael and it was terrifying for her and the kids. Her house is uninhabitable, no utilities and no job. She’s staying in Destin with friends and enrolled the kids in school there. She’s just getting thru applications with FEMA and the insurance company.
Pray for them!

Lol. Sorry, it did sound like an old great-grandma chastising a youngin !!! I tried to delete it but was too late. I'll blame it on this great-grandma being worn out after a day of shopping, laughing and lunch with her married granddaughter.
Am I forgiven?

Janetr Those are seriously adorable pictures of you in that fascinator & with your granddaughter! I had to chuckle that the great-grandmas stick together, LOLOLOL!!! So who are all the great-grandmas on this thread, anyway? Inquiring minds want to know!
Old picture of me in a fascinator I made for Halloween one year (also notice the skull earrings):

Ah, what a lift for my Wednesday morning... fascinators are... well, fascinating, funny and fabulous! Thank you for that, Karen in VA and JanetR in OK! Love them for some weird reason, but the only hat I wear is a baseball cap on occasion now and I wore a broad-brimmed Stetson (cowboy hat) in my misspent youth. You both look lovely, and JanetR, your granddaughter is fabulous as well... Such happy faces to wake up to, this morning.
Michele, congratulations on the new grandbaby to come!
Not a great-grandma, but I didn't get my kids until they were 15 and 17, and I married their dad when I was 49, so I started a little late. If I survive until then, I should be somewhere around 70 when my first great-grandchild comes along.
Had a few days of being good with my eating, so the scale is being nice to me again. Lost three pounds (of the total of four I had recently gained back) since Monday morning. Started back to an old habit (a good one for a change!) that, during the long phone call meetings, unless I'm looking at a document on my computer, I walk. Put in more than two miles just walking around in the house during phone calls yesterday, and ran out the seven-hour battery on my headset, but it's helping. Also found out that if I move breakfast to 11 a.m., I do better all day, eating-wise. Being crazy busy helps too.
And, today is moving day! First of four (or five if necessary). Tried to schedule this out so I don't just get utterly exhausted, one room a day, and then some work in the mountain house in the afternoons, after I get the morning's truckload unloaded (with my son's help) and placed in the new house.
Made my husband's lunch for work, got his coffee ready, almost done with my first cup of coffee, and checked in with y'all, so my day is off to a good start!
Love y'all,

Amazed I slept! But I did and was only awake reading in the night for half an hour. Woke up to DH's birthday.
We are going to have tonight's starter for lunch, scallops and chorizo. That will spread out the calories a bit.
Heard from our agents today that the buyer's solicitors are going to tell them that our completion date is the one.
I have emailed our solicitors to tell them that. Hope exchange happens today and I can book the removal. I will need to send them 10% deposit, which is why I haven't been able to confirm. I have been quite stressed waiting to hear this morning, but I'm calmer right now. I still did my exercises. Found the push ups a great way to use up spare adrenaline.
Just have to let the lawyers do their stuff now.
Thank you my friends for bearing with me through all this. I feel I have been very boring, but it has helped me to get it out there.
LOVING the fascinators and the beautiful women under them!
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! A little on the groggy side this morning as I my hubby woke me at 3:30 this morning to talk to our son. Pretty sure he (our son) was having a panic attack. When I got to him, he was in the kitchen with his hands over his eyes and crying, a little bit of shaking, and in typical male style; didn't want to talk about it. Hubby left the room and I told my son to sit down across from me. So he sat and I just held him, rocked him, and rubbed his back and arms. It took about 30 minutes to get things under control and get him relaxed enough to get some sleep. Beyond the initial questions of "Are you in pain? What did you eat? What did you drink?, etc" I didn't ask any other questions about the cause. I figure we can talk about it when he is not mid-anxiety attack. SO...he fell asleep and I couldn't get back to sleep. No matter how big our kids get, we still lose sleep over them, don't we? Which brings me to Michele!
Michele- You and I seem to be going through things along the same time line. Our daughters getting married and our ambivalence to that; she/they living far away and closer to her new inlaws, then those daughters getting pregnant and sorting our feelings about that. We all know how my daughter's pregnancy turned out and how it made me do a complete 180 with my perspective on how she is living her life. I am going to sincerely pray/wish for you what I have found in this longdistance mom/grandma relationship. Peace. I want you to find joy in the fact that Denise is in this world, has a safe/stable "place" with Pete while they get on their feet financially and begin a family. I think you need to take advantage of any time that you are able to spend with them, getting to know her as a new wife and mother, maybe even getting to know Maria a little better. Sometimes people are different when the pressure of "event" planning is done. IF you ever want to talk, feel free to message me or email me. I totally get where you are at right now; I just don't want you to miss anything or deny yourself of time with Denise/baby because of bad feelings toward some one else or the situation. Sending you lots of love
Janet and Karen VA- lol LOVE the Halloween "fascinators"! We should have a selfie challenge of ourselves in the local Halloween aisle all decked in festive gear. We don't have to buy anything; just decorate ourselves! You both are so cute!
Suebdew- Hope you are feeling a bit better and I hope that amount of rain/water doesn't hurt your beautiful pecan grove! I have been watching the Texas temps drop! I think it might be colder there than here in Michigan!
Lisa- Happy moving day! I am so excited for you finally getting into the mountain house and getting settled! Woo-hoo!
Well, I have kiddo number one sitting across from me eating a pancake; so I better fly. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)10
