I don't think there is such a thing as a "bad" run. There are good runs, better runs, and great runs.

Congrats to all for their weekend accomplishments! I had an active rest day Saturday, walking for almost 4 miles with my dogs. Sunday was another rest day but no walk. This morning we ran an extremely slow 25 minutes for c25k w7d1, with quite a few pit stops for both dogs. My back was twinging a little before but I took the chance... knew before we were done that it was a bad idea. So much pain.
Dropped our youngest son and his wife to the airport for their vacation/ honeymoon trip to Ireland, Scotland and England. Two months! Emotional and painful day for me. Very glad I took tomorrow off work.8 -
Another eight *kitten* ugly character building kilometres this morning. I woke up in a funk this morning for some reason, brain came up with a million and one reasons not to go out and run. I think I need to find a new route, running basically the same route with slight changes to make it longer or shorter 3 or 4 times per week for over 2 months has now become pretty boring. Plus, as I'm a total novice and the majority of my runs are just easy runs to get the miles done, that makes it even more boring. And it's reached the point where if I go out in a T-shirt I'm cold for the first half hour or so, but if I take a jacket I get too hot and then having to carry a jacket pisses me off. Guess I need to look for a long-sleeved T-shirt to run in, but finances are really tight atm. Anyway, toyed with staying indoors and running on the treadmill but decided that would be even more boring, toyed with a new route but couldn't think of where to go that husband would approve of (he doesn't want me running on the deserted river trail or quiet streets..... I used to laugh at him but for some reason lately I have started to be wary of doing so too). In the end I gave myself a kick up the backside and a "quit finding excuses and go get it done" talking to and went and did it.
Seemed to go on forever, and I had to bribe myself with a jelly baby after 20 minutes and another after 40 minutes, but got it done. After 6.5km I decided this was boring and I just wanted to get it over and done with, so my brain came up with the idea that if I ran faster I'd be finished sooner. Did around a kilometre of lamppost intervals.... led to me doing my fastest 5k this month according to Endomondo and shaving about 9 seconds per kilometre of my average pace for the whole run. I think my knees and shins will be telling my brain off for that bright idea later though!
So I really need to find new places to run to stop the boredom beating me. There's a nice wooden boardwalk along the beach about a 15-20 minute drive away, but I don't think it's more than about 2-3 kilometres long and the thought of getting in the car and driving somewhere to run seems counterproductive to me. I HATE driving.

out for a 3 and a bit mile run this morning. I'm working on getting back to consistency of when I run, and I seem to be just about winning the battle.
I was also faster than normal. I don't know why, and whether this is from doing more strength training or having done a hilly hike at the weekend, but I certainly felt like my legs felt good.
Starting up a new half marathon training plan in a couple of weeks so is good to get back into it, and dare I say it even find myself motivated to run?8 -

Track workout felt easier this time than 2 weeks ago when I did the same thing, same paces, so that's progress. Cycling also seemed easier today, as well. I'll take it!

@eleanorhawkins - I can relate to the boring run. I run at 4:30am and so I can't leave my neighborhood because it just doesn't feel safe. If I was to just do every street in neighborhood once it's not quite 3 miles. So I repeat several streets - especially this one circle that is .5 miles. It gets boring, some days. Every week or two I will leave the neighborhood and go on the main street. I figure if it's not a pattern no one will catch on. I run with mace and a personal alarm. I have a Run Angel bracelet but I've been lazy about running with it, so need to charge it and wear it again. I'm in Orlando and it's hot 98% of the time I run, but when I'm running in a cold area I wear layers and just start taking them off and tying them around my waist.
I set out to do four miles this morning. Somehow I miscalculated or looked at Garmin wrong, and when I looked I had gone 4.6 miles and was .5 mile from home. And it was past the time I needed to start showering. I have it all down to a routine and need a certain amount of time to get ready. And I had 2 toes hurting out of the blue so that last .5 mile was not so fun. But, I feel great now!

@eleanorhawkins sorry to hear about your crappy run! One thing that you might try is to put your training plan and your GPS aside and go out and run. Do pace goal, no distance goal. Just run how you feel in the moment. When I've done that I usually get refreshed and running is fun again.
For your temperature dilemma, it sounds like arm sleeves might be just the thing for you. You can pull them down as you warm up and and eventually take them off completely. They're very lightweight and easy to carry. Cheap too, at least over here. About US$7.005 -
I had another strength training session last night, my 8th of the month.
Glutes, core and upper body. For glutes and core I'm following a hurt foot workout on YouTube as much as I can but I have to be careful because some of the moves make me want to flex my bum foot, which probably isn't a good idea.
Upper body work is all with a single dumbbell. At this rate I'll need to get larger arm sleeves, LOL!
I'm working from home today and Kody does not want to leave me alone. I think he's depressed from lack of activity. I have been going in the backyard and playing fetch with him but it's not the same as a trail run.5 -

What type of pants do you wear in the winter? This morning was the coldest I've run in so far, around 12F. I thought my leggings that I wore were pretty warm up until this morning. I didn't feel cold while out for my run but when i got home and felt my legs bare skin they felt cold as ice. I was thinking of buying a pair of joggers and wearing those over my leggings? I have three or four pair of tights I wear, one lightweight, two midweight, and one heavyweight. If it gets so cold, or windy, that the heavyweight tights won't cut it, I wear a pair of joggers over them.
For my heavyweight tights I use Smartwool PhD. Very warm!

i wear two to three pairs. i have fleece tights too. so 1-2 light or midweight. coooooold days fleece and another pair of tights. frozen days-2 pairs of fleece. why am i running, the air hurts my face days -capri, leggings, fleece leggings.2 -
60.9 miles after this morning! That happened fast! And I ran 6.2 again on Saturday; maybe I can make this a weekly thing 😀 Winter weather has arrived a little early in my neck of the woods and this time of year/ this kind of weather makes me appreciate having a treadmill at home. I used to go out in anything over 10°F but now it's too cold in the morning to take my son out with me in the stroller, so I've been running early before he wakes up. Lately I've been feeling a bit spoiled and have been running on it even when it's relatively decent, but I'm sure I'll be ready to go out again in the spring when the weather starts getting warmer.
Questions for people who do running streaks and/or regularly run more than 10 miles/day: how do you prevent overuse injuries? How do you handle sudden soreness or discomfort that lasts longer than a week? How did you build up to running that distance regularly?

Ended up on the treadmill last night as the weather was miserable - cold and windy and rainy...blegh. Did about 5.25 miles, which is a pretty long run for me! I had to slow my pace a little toward the end, but was able to keep running the entire distance. This is the longest distance I have EVER run continuously!! Was super happy about that even if it was a bit of a slog on a treadmill!

As cold as I've ever had to run in down here was a Christmas race at night when it was 20 something with a windchill in the teens. I wore heavyweight leggings with fleece joggers over and was toasty.0
