Haven't had much appetite for over a week so eating well below my allowance, not many carbs but eggs fruit and veggies. Lots of exercise but scale has not moved a jot Wasn't trying to lose any but a bit surprised.
Lovely photos of trees, grands and decorations.

Good early morning ladies.
Yvonne great to see you posting again. When I fall into an extended period of being sedentary I imagine myself full of energy and get up and move—even for 5 minutes—I can do anything for 5 minutes. Often times that breaks the funk—as long as I get up the next day and pretend again!
Yesterday I was walk/jogging while watching Bush funeral procession walk into the Capitol. So very moving to hear those old hymns played by a military band—touching

Hello, my friends...
Heather - loved that picture of you and Bea, and love the fact that your DS and DDiL are seeing you as the wonderful resource you are for stepping in when there's need. Glad you're there for them, and I know you are, too. Being part of your grandchildren's lives often is so different than the holiday visits!
Pip - love the ornaments!
A tiny bit frustrated this morning - got the call from the civilian orthopedic surgeon to see me for first work-up, since the VA has chosen to have me get it done near my home, and... the paperwork the surgeon received said it was for the left knee, which is the wrong one. The right knee is by far the worst, though I'll probably need the left one done in a couple years. Got a phone call through to my primary care doc's office, finally, six hours later, and they're working on it. The slip supposedly happened between there and the civilian doctor who got the consultation, but no way to know where or who, so it's a re-start. Gah. It's like hitting yourself on the head with a hammer because it feels so good when you stop doing that. I was so close!
Also ended up on the phone with the VA pharmacy because they're billing me for prescriptions I never received. These were refills, and went to the address where I was more than seven months ago. Seriously, all these mess-ups do not make me feel very confident that the whole knee surgery thing is going to go off without a hitch.
Tiptoeing through my last couple days at work, as I wait for next Monday to begin my new job. Still not sure what I'm going to say in the exit interview tomorrow. I need to tell my own truths, but this woman is wholly interconnected with my entire professional network across the U.S. Should my next CEO decide to depart within the next few years, I could literally end up working for her again.
But, Egg (my cat) is on my lap, saying "stop typing and pet me," and that's what is most important right now.
She says "Hi."
Love y'all! Lisa in AR

Back here for the first time in about a year. Checked my profile and saw that I'm at the same weight with the same goal. There've been ups and downs during the year but here I am...again. I STILL have 27 lbs. to lose. Ugh. But now I have bursitis in my left hip so I'm not using my nautical machine anymore, just doing yoga and walking for exercise.
I'm meeting a friend in France on Dec. 27t so I've set a goal of 7 lbs. by then. I have one of the slowest metabolisms in the world so it may not be realistic. Going to try, though.
Good luck everybody. Have a great month!4 -
I have had a horrendous headache all day. I'm not sure what's up.
Over-tired and over-stressed, perhaps. It's a very busy week.
Anyway, I put in a full day at work. I've been tossed into the deep end with a whole heap of projects because I'm taking over from someone for a little while.
Then we had a home meeting with one of the people involved in my husband's care which I hoped would only be about 45 minutes or so. It lasted nearly 1.5 hours.
That meeting went the way I wanted for the most part, but she did keep pushing us to come up with a list of things my husband could work on before Christmas ... places we could go, courses we could attend, regular visits to the gym, and all sorts of things. It's 3 weeks till Christmas. He's got two fairly extensive medical appointments next week, and I've got another appointment with my dental surgeon the following week. Plus I'm trying to finish my course ... I've got a quiz, presentation, paper and final exam all before Christmas. AND I do have a few Christmas events on the calendar. But we're supposed to come up with and do a bunch of extra things??? And in almost the same breath, she tells us she wants to make life easier for us.
So I wasn't able to relax till nearly 8 pm.
I was going to work on my homework project, but didn't feel up to it. So instead, I finished the Christmas decorations. I'm glad I did that much.
Tomorrow I've got a conference all morning and then a meeting to discuss some of those projects. And then another home meeting with a different person who may become involved in my husband's care after work.

Machka ... when my older son with Cerebral Palsy was younger and we were involved with multiple specialists, I remember getting so frustrated! Therapists would have "home plans" and exercise routines and appointments that I seemingly was supposed to complete without thought to other life commitments . I remember bursting into tears one time when my dinner burned while I kept fussing with my son's positioning. It was then I decided that while all the professionals meant well, they were not the ones actually living with their advice. Finding a balance became key. I still tried to incorporate as much of their plans as possible, but recognized that it wouldn't always happen. Years later I learned that they never expected parents to comply with everything ... and only hoped that they would do some of the things. Find the balance.5

Yes. With this girl in particular I've had to put my foot down several times and tell her that what she's suggesting will not be happening.
Today I kept changing the subject every time she ventured toward "setting goals" and making plans ... and when she suddenly broke into the conversation with a list of things we could do before Christmas and wanting a list from us too, I just laughed out loud.
Then I told her that it's almost Christmas and we've got a pretty full schedule and that we'd prefer to leave things as they are.
I fully expect a long email before the end of the week.
And if she wants to make life easier, I'll tell her how she can do that ... I could still use a personal secretary!!

Love the video, Machka!!!!!
Grrrrrrrrrr Lisa. That would make me MAD too. (((HUGS)))
Today the dentist got our appointments wrong AGAIN. Now we are going on the 21st.
Just been for run along the prom to work off last night's pizza. Must atone for my sin.
The plumber came to estimate for the radiator. He is going to move it right across the room and put it under the window where it should have been in the first place. It'll cost, but it means we can get our huge dresser out of the garage.
I cut up my orange cake today to put in the freezer. With any luck I will be able to use it for two entertaining days. I cut it into one third and two thirds for portioning out. It will save me a lot of work.

Janetr: What a wonderful photo of Santa and your newest grandson.
Rebecca: We have something in common, I think. I am also unable to visit my kids and grands this holiday season. We’re making the best of it that we can. I’m working hard at trying to avoid creating a self-pity party. DH will not fly again, so we’ll see them in spring/summer when we hope to take an epic road trip in the RV. We will be seeing our niece and grandnephew who live in the Portland area and I’m grateful for that. We also hope to see dear friends who will be travelling in their RV between now and Christmas. :flowerforyou:
Kate UK: I thought the gas might be imported. Much of ours is, too, although our country is also an oil & gasoline producer. Our cars run on biodiesel but the RV is a gas guzzler. :ohwell:
Felicia: I’ve heard of 3D printers and seen things online, but you are the only person I know who actually has one. WOW! What a great creating outlet for your son.
Sidney: In nasty weather a gym is a huge asset. Being outside in the weather is also a good thing to do but I’ve run into trouble outside in the cold. Our light changes in the winter. There is less daylight, but I’ve found the contrast of light & dark on a clear day in winter is much more dramatic. Bright seems brighter and shadows seem darker. Winter is the season when I’ve tripped and broken bones in high contrast light. Many people use stationary bikes to burn calories. Is that an option for you?
Carol: Our neighbor has had knee replacement surgery more than once and is currently awaiting another surgery. His preferred surgeon is currently home on maternity leave. He is seriously over weight and unwilling to change his eating habits. He played football in high-school and college, and I’m sure that didn’t help his knees, either. I am willing to bet that you will be able to walk your dog after the surgery. If the dog isn’t a puller, I’ll bet your surgeon will encourage walking the dog when you’ve healed enough. I imagine there will be some time involved before you are ready for dog walking.
Heather: It makes me happy that you’re having such a good experience in your new community. More time with the grand kids is amazing and wonderful, but the cultural opportunities seem like frosting on the cake.
Janet in Eastern MO: As you go along, I’m sure you will discover ways to enjoy your activities and even find healthful choices at fast food places.
Barbie: You are doing a fabulous job with your heath and I’ve been inspired by you ever since I found this group. In my book you are a shining.
Yvonne in TX: It is good to see you posting again. :flowerforyou:
Snowflake: Congratulations on your successful craft sale. WTG!!!
Pip: Love the toaster ornament!!!
(((Lisa))) Sorry about the bureaucratic BS. I hope it is all straightened up soon. :flowerforyou:
Machka: Thank you for Simon’s Cat. I’m sorry your husband’s care team is so clueless about the complications in your busy life. :grumble: I like the advice from bwcetc.
We have a pretty day today, and our first real frost of the season. I’m thinking about bringing our live spruce trees into the garage to start acclimatizing to be inside. It seems a little early, but at this point we’ve had no hard frosts, just a light frost last night. I’m thinking that if I bring them into the garage now, there will be less shock in and less trouble going back outside after New Years. Advice from gardeners welcome!

Katla, Thank you for your kind words. I have been fortunate in my life. My balance is good so walking outdoors has been easier for me than for many other people. I have dug into all the spiritual resources that have come my way and found a path that works for me in troubling times. My husband has a strong spiritual path that helps him see his own part and his own actions so when he is cranky and depressed he can find his way out fairly quickly.
Carol, There is a woman in my line dance class age 80+ who has had both knees replaced and dances great and plays golf.
Jake wanted to go for a drive today or go out to lunch so we'd have an adventure together. I chose a drive because it promised to be a beautiful day. I didn't want to go out to lunch because he says that no food tastes good to him and I saw no reason to spend a lot of $$$$$ for food he wouldn't like. But he woke up not feeling well after no sleeping well and went back to bed. I have a dentist appointment at 3:00 that I made for that time so there would be time in the morning to go for a ride. The later he sleeps, the less likely that we'll go for a ride. I've used the napping time to do some things on my never ending "to do" list so the time has been well spent.

Ughhhh today has been a stressor
I got up with a nasty cold... went and walked the boys , didnt go feed DFIL as I will not go near anyone with a cold. came back and the phone starts, I am relieved to say the closing will be this friday , but now they want this that and everything else... soooo while Im fielding phone calls, I am cleaning out the closet that the washer and dryer will go in... plastic stacking shelf in there moved that into my walk in closet, but there is no water drain for the washer... 1 110 outlet and not a 220 for the Dryer... and I had the president of the association come down and said if your putting in new washer and dryer might as well put in a new water heater as the one I have is 14 yrs old.. sooooo sure.. lets spend more money.... Oh well I am going to go take a nap..2 -
Alison ~ Is your ownership of the condo a sure thing? The reason I'm asking is that I thought you were currently renting it with the option to buy at the end of the year. If something goes wrong before you can secure ownership, you will have spent a lot of money on something that is not yours. JMHO

Katla - we made a vow to ourselves when we first decided to move to Hove that it wouldn't be just for the grandchildren. Children can move, divorce etc. Brighton was a high choice for me even before my son moved down here. It is London By The Sea, and I was only forced out of London by the price of a detached house. Actually, apart from the art galleries and national museums, there is so much here and everything is much easier to get to. Plus the wonderful sea front. We are yet to take full advantage of all the cultural possibilities, because we have been occupied with sorting out our house, but, come the New Year, we hope to make the most of it. There is a theatre, classical and every kind of music. Nearby on the bus route there is a pub we enjoyed when we rented an apartment last year. It had French ballads, live, on a Wednesday. Other music on different nights. Jazz on Saturday lunchtime. We hope to drag ourselves away from our very comfy living room to pay it a visit. One problem in our last house is that we very rarely went out in the evening, unless we were eating out with company. I felt we were getting in a rut.
Now I have outdoor Christmas tree lights to programme and a doorbell to programme. I am not technical.
I did manage to register online for my doctor's surgery and have ordered my repeat prescription. :drinker:
The bedroom is now free of boxes. Just need DH to move his tv.

Oooooh Allie! Is there another location in your condo that a washer and dryer could go? One already wired/plumbed for it? Also, don't let anyone talk you into replacing a water heater that is still working! Unless you are getting a great deduction or sale price for buying it (or bundle all three appliances and get a big chunk of money off), I would wait until it quits before replacing it. Water heaters usually start at 6K! "if it ain't broke..." Hugs to you! KJ1

Lisa- Gracie said to tell Egg Hi.
Kayla - You must see in my house. I have a bike sitting on a wind trainer that I rarely use. (To my shame). I’m going to dust it off and ride it for sure now!!7 -
My name is Deb. I live in Maine. I am 50 years old.
I set a goal in October of running a full mile nonstop, something I hadn't done in 32 years. I successfully accomplished that this past Sunday. Today, I start my 5k program. My goals this month are to:- stay consistent with my running - two short runs and one long run per week
- meet with my trainer two times a week
- participate in at least one group class per week
- do yoga regularly
10 -
KJ love the playhouse, wrapped pictures, advent calendar, but especially the beautiful creche.
Heather "change of plans" now that's why you moved to Hove. What a lovely alternative to being stuck in ruts! Ditto Beth's comment about your relaxed and young pic. Mulled wine and mince pies, YUM! "played prisons"?
Okie an ounce of bubbly at each of 27 stops? Even with just a sip/taste, it would be a "charity stagger" for me...
Lanette May I ride along with you to KJ's? Hoping for good shoulder and DDS appointments and that the Ortho clinic staffs up soon.
Katla so glad you were recovered enough to ride Arrow, and that he behaved... " sips of my parents' coffee--and anything else they might drink" Same here. Had thimbleful of Mama's wine or a dribble of Papa's beer in a juice glass. One day Mama was making herself a highball, so I asked for a sip. She poured some bourbon in a teaspon and gave it to me. UGGGHHH!!!! YUCK. Explains why I've never been much of a hard liquor drinker. Wise Mama.
Allie when we got our first (used) Maytags, I raised fist to air and swore "as God is my witness I will never go to the laundromat again!!!" and kept that vow except for when giant machines needed to wash sleeping bags.
Karen in BC Eeeeeeee! So exciting! Fingers Xd.
Rebecca good for you keeping at the gym despite feeling blue. Well done. Cursing like a sailor while making divinity, your Mom sounds like my Mama! Had to google hello dolly cookies... ah, they're magic cookie bars! Very rich, but disappear quickly at potlucks.
Barbie that is a very quick DDS re-schedule. You must be one of their VIP patients.
Kate all imported=no refineries? North Sea?
Felicia "only a weapon when it is misused" You've done well bringing up your children! Say hello to my birthplace for me. I miss it the way it once was...
Willow please don't stress over keeping up with all the threads. Invest your energy in self-care.
Janet in eMO out in the cold and wind (brrrr) I hate being chilled to the bone. Sometimes the only fix is a soak in the hot tub, and even then it seems to take my fingers forever to warm.
Yvonne so glad you're back. I'm sure checking here will help melt that block. Kicking and screaming burn calories too!
pip "i'lll make it up when I'm able to " That's the way I feel about all the prescribed acts of kindness. Think it was Barbie who pointed me to not limiting myself to just one specific act per day but to look for opportunities (while looking for chances to be active too. Thanks Barbie!) Love love LOVE your unique ornaments!
Tracey Congratulations on your successful sale! Hope that heater vent is closed off. . .
NYKaren "get up the next day and pretend again" Brilliant!
Lisa Wrong knee? "Gah" indeed. Good thing you know to be your own advocate and double check everything. You have such a good way with words, I know you can find the way to tell your own truth in a way the CEO can accept and benefit from.
Machka Love the cat cartoon, reminds me of cats I've had. "wants to make life easier for us" but soooo unclear on the concept!
Welcome Sidney, debragookings, welcome back AEPHubinc2015. Please let us know what to call you and generally where you are.
Coffee, tea and sugar. LOVE the way coffee smells (ditto Lisa) but too bitter without sugar at least, milk too is better. Best is cappuccino with cinnamon and raw sugar. Drank milky tea as a child, but now prefer it black and honeyed. Running low on honey this month, substituted organic sugar. Was surprised to achieve desired sweetness for a third of honey's calories. Have cut back from 6 cups/day to 3 or sometimes two, not so much for the caffeine as the sugar
Time to prep some raw veggies for light lunch as I'm planning pizza and real-not-AF beer tonight before the Christmas Chorale.
Lighter, lovelies!

Lisa - Exit Interview, I have never been asked to do an Exit Interview, but the previous to last employer I had the VP asked me why I was leaving. I had been there for 12 years. I told him it was all financial which was the truth, but there was so much more I could have said. Bullying management, overworking employees for the sake of profit by not replacing staff as they quit. At one point I was doing two full time positions with no increase in pay. I didn't share all the negative as it is a small industry here in the city and I didn't want to ruin my reputation. It is a conundrum for sure.
Machka - I think they expect an awful lot of you and your husband.
Katla and Rebecca - Not seeing your children and grandchildren at the holidays must be awful. We left for Alberta on Christmas night 1997. My husband had been here since September so of course, the girls and I were missing him. We split our Christmas up that day between my parents and my husband's parents. It was our last Christmas at home. I have never regretted moving away because I always believed it was the best thing for our family, but I have always felt guilty for not being home at Christmas again. As a parent of adults and a Grandparent I feel even more guilty as it surely hurt both sets of parents the costs of flying a family of four were and are astronomical in Canada so it's never been an option for us. I always wished that our parents would have come here but they never once offered.
I am biding my time getting the week in here at the office. I have packed up my office, bought some supplies for the mobile guys that will be left so far. I will take my car to the local car wash on Thursday evening to vacuum and clean it out well. I don't know if anyone is coming to get the keys from me or if I'll just leave them here. They can't seem to give me a straight answer on that.
Off to colour some ornaments, have a great day everyone!

Today is National Sock Day!
"National Sock Day on December 4 recognizes the rarest of all lasting unities, the marriage of matched socks. When they manage, wash after wash, dry after to dry to keep finding each other through all the chaos, a celebration is certainly in order!"
drkatiebug - Oh, you are your neighbor's hero! They'd have gotten a nasty surprise in the utility bill if that leak hadn't been fixed!
Tracey - Congratulations on such a successful craft sale. That's a big increase.
Willow - I've run into several smartphone apps lately where you had to page back through the calendar ONE WEEK AT A TIME. Obviously the developers are a fraction of my age, or they'd have noticed that for some of us that is an unreasonable burden! I just hit the back key until I get tired of it then lie about my age.
Sue - Even without the emotional component, cancer treatment is exhausting for all involved. And so many men are bad patients, too. Hope your husband's side effects will be manageable and the results positive.
Karen - Thanks for your kind words! You're right, at the moment pretending is the best I can do. I know that if I can pretend long enough, the benefits will start to catch up with me.
Allie - Hope you feel better soon!
Lisa - Wish I could give you a big old pair of scissors to cut through all the red tape. Pets to Egg.
Machka - Thank you for Simon's Cat video. I just love those - they are all so charming. They never get old!
Heather - Your new town sounds absolutely charming.
Deb - Way to go! I don't think I could run a mile. Well, at this point my bad knee wouldn't allow running anyway, but even without that I'm not fit enough. I admire you for setting a goal and then accomplishing it!
Confession time: In a brief flash of motivation a couple of months ago, I joined a gym and paid for a couple of sessions with a personal trainer. I'm ashamed to say I haven't been back since. They have a yoga class, though, and I thinking of joining that. Having a scheduled commitment should help me get to the gym, and there's no reason I can't do a workout before or after yoga. It would probably help to continue with the personal trainer since the one I had just sort of evaluated me and showed me how to do some stuff. As helpful as it would be to have someone meet me at the gym and tell me what to do, though, I'm not ready to make that kind of financial commitment right now.
Here's hoping all your socks stay together!

Allie - don't forget the dryer vent too. When they built our house, they didn't include a drain for the washer, put in a laundry sink instead so the outgoing hose just drains into that sink, attached by a plastic tie. Splish splash.
And the dryer vent hose runs under the house, probably twenty feet or more. Lots of lint builds up even though I clean the lint screen each time. They could have run it about six feet out the other side of the house. And this is a regular "laundry room" in a house built only 20 years ago. We had to have that hose replaced a couple years ago since it was getting plugged.
Guess we should be thankful it was wired for 220.
I'm kind of surprised the salesman and Lowe's didn't go over all of this with you; he probably thought you were replacing existing units.
Good luck - if you can make it work, it will be terrific! Our next place will have a stacked unit, for sure.

so not the closing on my condo I own it... closing on my dads house finally...
Kelly ~ wont be 6,000 for water heater . but I dont want to change a 14 yr old water heater rusting and busting on me with a new stackable washer and dryer right next to it..... if I am going to live here for the rest of my years I might as well put the money I need to into what will update it , even if I have to sell it God Forbid the upgrades only help..
so I have to take the good with the bad..3 -
Alle I agree you need to rethink where to put washer and dryer. Ask others in your complex where they put washer and dryers into their units and how they did it. I know my sister in law had a stacked washer and dryer in her condo and it was close to the kitchen. You will need an electrician to get the 220V. Venting it correctly will keep it from getting too much humidity and dryer lint from getting into your unit Perhaps now is the time to price it out. Why would they want you to replace your hot water heater? We did wait too long to replace ours we were getting bits of rust into our plumbing, but ours was over 20 years old. What signs says it needs to be replaced. It will be enough of an expense to put in the washer and dryer. I wash almost all our clothes with cold water no need for hot water. Good luck! I would go back to Lowe's and explain your problem and see if they have and solutions for you.

Thank you! You'd be surprised - I bet you could. I have had 27 surgeries due to an accident and have an arthritic knee. I thought I would never run again. As I began to lose weight, move more, gain flexibility through yoga and walk, I realized my body was more capable than I was giving it credit for. I did a program called Fat to First Mile - think couch to 5k but for super beginners with the end goal running a full mile. I watched videos to learn about proper running mechanics and realized my form is what caused my knee and hip pain. Once I corrected my form, I just followed the program and ran slow. Soooo slow. I ran slower than I walk at first. Today, I ran 1.5 miles without stopping.

Alison: Carol’s questions about home ownership make sense to me. Is the place now yours, or are you still waiting to finalize the purchase? I’ve noticed that others picked up on washer/dryer placement. Be sure to have it checked out well enough before you commit to the expense. You need to have adequate electricity and plumbing in place for them to operate. :flowerforyou:
Heather: It is delightful hearing about your settling in efforts and the wonderful opportunities for culture and adventure in your new home city.
Debralgoogins: Welcome to a great group. Tell us a bit about yourself. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: I love sweetened coffee, too, but I use SweetDrops stevia instead of sugar. It isn’t as sweet as real sugar, but has no calories and no brain numbing chemicals, either. It is a safe choice from my pov. We buy it at Fred Meyer in the nutrition section.
Tracy: Your experiences with separation from family seems very much like ours. It can be emotional at times and I have to work hard to avoid having a personal pity-party. :ohwell: Good luck to you.
Have a great day!

Good morning all - I have just come back to MFP this week and looking for some interesting support groups and saw women ages 50+.I hope it is ok for me to join in - I have only just had a quick scan on some of your posts and you seem to be all in sync and enjoying your friendships. I will read back on the past few days later on when I can so I get a better idea of who people are.4

Penny - My job is to colour the ornaments, hubby's is to create the scene using a wood burning tool. We are trying a new technique using pencil crayons instead of acrylic paint and I have been experimenting with skies. Today I used your picture from the walk with your husband as my sky inspiration.
