Before MFP I hadn't realised what a "serving" of potato chips and corn chips was. I got a massive shock.

Bread always amazes me - the calories in just one slice and it's gone in a flash!1

Glad I'm not the only one! I don't really love bananas, but I know they're packed with potassium so I eat them once in awhile. I tend to buy the smallest ones I can find (for around 70 cals) or only have 1/2 of a medium one. Other high potassium foods like watermelon are a lot less calorie dense.
Re: restaurant meals - I'd order the senior meal if I didn't feel like I have to show my ID. They usually have an age limit listed on the menu and I'm a bit under. I have ordered kid meals "to go" at various places even though my kids all have four legs and fur. LOL
I know! 110 cals! You know how strawberries I can have in comparison!2 -

If I want a fall tasting coffee I’ll just get a normal coffee add cream and a couple pumps of the pumpkin syrup. Sooo much less calories!
Because of the whole milk, the whipped cream, and the sugar in the syrup. If you go to skim milk and no whip, you can get it to 330 calories. If you do almond, it's 290.1 -

Well, to be fair, strawberries off season are $5 a pint... vs a 15 cents banana LOL.8 -
My big surprise was microwave popcorn. They put that big, bold 160 cal on there and put 3 servings per bag in teeny tiny print. I used to routinely eat the whole bag for an afternoon or evening snack. Not anymore.
Husband is new to logging. His big surprise was mayonnaise (his condiment of choice) and that spoonful of peanut butter he would eat as a bedtime snack. You should have seen his face when he saw the totals.
We had gift card for Texas Roadhouse. I ordered 6 oz sirloin, salad w/ honey mustard dressing and baked potato w/butter no sour cream. Almost my whole day's calorie allotment. The grocery had New York Strip steak on sale. I grilled it at home (weighed it before eating then subtracted the weight of the fat I cut off), had a baked potato with butter, and a salad with Newman's Own honey mustard dressing. Came out to about half the restaurant calorie count. No more restaurants!

Calories in drinks I like a sugary drink every day (330ml) and fitting it in my calorie allowance is a nightmare. I know I am going to have to give it up.3

My new love is Poke. But I have no idea how many calories it is. It doesn't seem to be that much, tuna, spring mix, ponzu, cucumbers, crab meat. Does anyone have a good idea on calories of a poke bowl?0

I think my biggest issue is that restaurants aren’t required to post calories anymore. Some still do, but I saw plenty that changed the menus back. I feel like it’s a minefield at those
All restaurants with over 20 locations were required to add calories to their menus for regular items by July of 2018.

It really is compared to other sources of protein, sadly.
It's also "practically high" for me as well. As in, high in calories the way I usually eat it.
When I have salmon planned I can't just casually have it like I would chicken and potatoes, I need to plan it in to fit. That's how I personally measure "practically high" - if I can't eat it without planning, it's high. It has nearly as many calories per gram as my favorite pizza, and pizza doesn't need sides, so even that is easier to fit in.
The typical piece of salmon, at least here, is about 200 grams sometimes more. That's more than 400 calories just from salmon, and I almost never eat just salmon when I do eat it. A typical salmon meal clocks at 800+ calories for me in the best scenarios. Nutritious or not, it takes the same planning a McDonald's meal does, at least for me. That's why it's a special meal that I don't have often, and when I do, I would rather fit it in and enjoy it than try and skim calories.5 -
1200 calories for a STARTER from TGI Fridays. I’ve never been back. I can’t afford to haha.1

A whole Dungeness crab only has 140 calories? That's really hard to believe. And ever so delicious. I should get another one.2
