@wellnfree I agree about fear being a motivator. I have admitted several times that I avoid what used to be yummy carbs for fear I will like them and eat them uncontrollably. However, I am now at a point where I will try them and amazed to find they don’t even taste good anymore. Nevertheless, I still fear losing control.2

Exercise is on hold for now until I get what I am doing down with the diet. I can see it is probably working and am looking for the energy to be consistent. I have been on the best streak in a long time with my working to get this done and hanging in there with the ups and downs!

01/04 285.2 I normally weigh in every morning after I get up and pee so this is a nice way to be able to log everything. *Update on my day although not weight related* Found out my father in law has cancer in the hips and lungs today, feeling so down and bad for my MIL. They are such good people and she lost her dad last January so this is really a blow to her.
01/05 284.9: 9.1 lbs down. Maybe tomorrow I’ll hit 10. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
01/06 286.2: and frustrated. Didn’t lose but gained and was really hoping to hit my 10 lb loss today. I drank some wine last night but was still in my calorie allotment so I’m feeling like it was the pad thai and all those carbs. Anyhow, here’s to a new day. I got a new Fitbit yesterday as well so hoping that will help motivate me with steps and everything. I’ve also had a killer headache since last night and today will probably be a lazy day.
01/07 287.4 and really annoyed now. How the hell did I gain 3 pounds this weekend? I stayed below my calorie limit even though it was a little higher than the last few days. It has to be the carbs. I did read that a Norma daily fluctuation can be 3-5 pounds but it sucks to see any higher number when I’m working so hard to lose. Anyhow, today will be a good day. I have an interview for a healthcare job that I’ve wanted for a while. Luck and prayers are being accepted!
01/08 286.2 Going back down again, thank goodness! I should hear back about the job either today or tomorrow and my stomach is just in knots. I do have another interview today at 1030 but it’s for a job that I don’t really want. School starts again Monday and I’m so ready to get this semester on the road! Hoping to see the scale go down again tomorrow. Here’s to hoping!
Hi Stephanie, sending prayers you get the job you want! 🙏
Just wanted to add one of the biggest weight challenges for us women is STRESS ... even if eating right and exercising, stress will pack on the pounds! I've also read that those with 3-5 negative life events within a few year time period are 40% more likely to be obese than those with no negative life events. How insane is that? One of the reasons why yoga and meditation is so good for us. Personally I could use a lot more of both7 -

I have to do that with kettle corn. On the rare occasions I get kettle corn, I eat too much of it, so I tell my husband I need an intervention and he takes it and hides it. I can have it if I specifically ask for it, but usually I forget about it! Our partners and other family can play a huge supporting role when we have our foibles.

Round 64 - Round 1.5 for me
Round 63 - SW=209.5, EW =205.7
Diagnosed with Type II Diabetes - November 10, 2016 A1C = 8.5%, September 21, 2018 A1C = 6.1%
Current Weight - 205.7
First Challenge (Round 63) Weight - 209.5

Goal Weight - 199
Ultimate Goal Weight - 194
Goals -
* Under 1900 cals each day
* No blood glucose tests above 180
* Run 5 days above 2.5 miles
1/3 - 205.7, Happy that I did not eat a lot, but did not track and overall choices not great. Need to get on the darn treadmill and make sure testing blood glucose consistently. Focusing on tomorrow's goals.
1/4 - 204.2, Fairly happy. Relatively good eating and a blood glucose of 96 right before bed which was fantastic. A key to success in managing my type II is staying off the carbs after 3PM. Still need to get on the treadmill and track food intake.
1/5 - 202.8, Pretty good day. Ate a light and healthy breakfast and lunch. Went out for dinner and ate so-so, but did not over eat. Big win was 2.7 miles on the treadmill in 30 minutes. Going to try to track food tomorrow. Want to start posting calories and steps for more accountability.
1/6 - 202.8 (1,095 calories in and 11,241 steps). Very good day. First time I ever tracked every single item I ate. Took my son to the newly opened Top Golf. I did not realize it was a bar food place. Only drank unsweetened iced tea. Did not do a lot of walking all day, but hit the treadmill at 8PM. Got in a great 2.7 miles/30 minute run. Interested to see what the scale says tomorrow morning.
1/7 - 200.8 (1,180 calories in and 12,381 steps). Relatively happy today. Second day in a row tracking everything I ate. One bad choice that shot blood glucose up to 239, but one bad choice is better than many. Ran on treadmill for 30 minutes for 2.8 miles. Hoping the scale goes under 200 tomorrow.
1/8 - 199.7 - WOW!!! Have not seen this number in 20 years. Extremely happy. Need to make this sustainable and go for another 6.

1/5 175.4 Stress eating yesterday DS just moved from the paediatrician to a GP. GP is asking questions that are hard for someone on the spectrum, with predictable results. It will get better as they get to know each other but it will never be easy. My own GP refused to take him as his needs were too complex so we are starting from zero. Starting today with a workout to try and vent some of the stress.

am a 50 year old 5'5" woman. I am trying to get healthier to avoid diabetes and all of the problems that come from being overweight.
I have found this challenge to be both rewarding and frustrating! Looking at my weight daily has been a real eye opener to see all of the fluctuations and how a high carb day will affect me and the loss for 2-3 days after. I have been participating in this challenge since Round 40, thanks @GrandmaJackie. My average loss/gain since Round 40 to 63 is a 0.5lb loss each round. This was better than I expected!

@Winner_in_Life RE: The hidden chocolate bar - Several years ago my husband was eating 5 or 6 granola bars daily so he asked me to limit him to 1. I hid the box and put one out on his placemat each morning. It worked and he survived! Good plan!
@texasfarmer Keto on! Are you tracking? You CAN track CICO at the same time.
@ghy5 Be careful of the carbs in fruit and even the good veggies. They do add up! Are you tracking?
NEW KETO-ers— Initial weight losses are generally mostly water. They will likely slow after the first week or two. Pay attention to electrolytes!
@SheilaBoneham I had requested the book from the library when you recommended it. LOL It occurred to me minutes ago that I should have checked the credentials of the author.3 -

01/05 - 169.4 - Same as yesterday....eating at calories and exercising every day and best of all, feeling fantastic!
01/06 - 169.0 - Yesterday was packed full of fitness! Roller skated for 2 hours, hiked 4.5 miles and did a five minute plank! Under calorie goal, but didn't make the best food choices.
01/07 - 168.8 - Eating a little below calorie goal and working out every day. Yesterday I walked my dog, planked, and did day three of a twenty five day plank challenge.
01/08 - 168.2 This challenge has been a huge motivator for me to eat healthy and exercise! I've been on track since the new year and am super stoked with the results. Only .2 pounds away from my end of 10 day goal!

1/03 - 175.8 - Still a bit of fluid weight. 174.4 my R62 start weight flashed briefly before settling on this. I can wait.?
1/04 -177.6 - Felt miserable all day yesterday. This weird cold/allergy like illness again. Exercised, ate dinner and went to bed later than usual.
1/05 - 177.2 - Started the day feeling lousy and not hungry and on the right side of carbs and calories. Took some cold medicine and ended the day +400 on the wrong side of carbs and calories.
1/06 - 178.2 - My goodness, no surprise though. I opened one of the last bags of those delicious porcini rosemary kettle chips. Ate the heck out of them just before going to bed. I'm feeling much better this morning, so the comfort eating should cease. Although, it's a potentially high carb day, since I'm going to visit my littles.
1/07 - 177.2 - Under 50g net carbs, so very much better than Friday and Saturday. Reigning it in today.
1/08 - 174.4 - 24g carbs, 19g net carbs. Carbs were: zucchini, salad, 1/4 grapefruit, 3/4 ounce of cashews after dinner drove up the carb count by 6g

Day/Weight/Comment
01/02 - 192 - I know this is a day early, but I needed to start ASAP. Yikes! Those holidays really added up.
01/03 - 190.4 - I know these first pounds are water, but it’s nice to see the scale move.
01/04 - 189.7 - I stayed low carb all day yesterday even through the cravings.
01/05 - 190.6 - I knew my weight was up when I woke up this morning and couldn’t get me rings off. I was too high on carbs yesterday, but it’s ok. I’ll clean it up today and drink a lot of water.
01/06 - 189.7 - Did pretty well with food and water yesterday but still woke up feeling dehydrated. I have been trying to make sure I get lots of water today and stay low on the carbs.
01/07 - 189.2 - Made it through the weekend without giving into carb cravings. That’s an achievement for me!
01/08 -188.8 - While the number is good, I gave into my carb cravings yesterday. The weight will probably bounce back up tomorrow. I’ve eaten low carb today and packed a nice low carb lunch. Hopefully, I can keep working on breaking that carb addiction!

My first round
5’7, female, 38 years old
SW: 210.2
GW: 145ish
1/03: 207.8
1/04: 207.2
1/05: 205.8 - I suspect a lot of this loss is water weight as I have been refraining from alcohol and drinking ~100oz of water a day
1/06: 205.6 - Had planned a day off of working out yesterday, but then got invited to a friend’s to watch football, so hit the gym for a quick workout beforehand to earn some extra calories. They ordered pizza for dinner, and had beer cheese fondue, of which I ate both . I did refrain from drinking alcohol though, which is hard around these friends, so I feel proud for that. I was still under my calorie goal, but only drank 72oz of water (my goal is 100oz each day.) So, overall a fine day, but I could have made more nutritious food choices.
1/07: 204.6 - Had *major* intestinal issues yesterday. Still not feeling 100% today. I took my day off exercise yesterday, but may do it again today until I feel better - will see how I feel late afternoon. I found my Fitbit charger last night (no easy feat ), so I can start using that again to track exercise calories a bit more accurately. Today is the first time in over 3 weeks that I’ll have a couple hours to myself at home, so I plan to take “before” photos (felt to awkward trying it when people were home/didn’t have a private space where photos would come out clearly.) I am also planning my first trip to the grocery store since starting this, so I’ll have to be more intentional about reading labels, which is not my strong suit, especially with possibly whiny kids in the cart. I downloaded a step by step mediation/mindfulness app a few days ago (I’ve never tried this before), and I can already tell it’s helping me combat negative thoughts throughout the day - I feel most excited about discovering this in my journey so far! Whew, this was longer than I intended. Thanks for reading!
1/08: 203.8 - Still had major stomach issues yesterday. Ate over my calories with toast and bagels trying to settle my stomach 🙈. Felt better by the evening, but didn’t do a work out. Did some squats and leg lifts before bed. I did hit my water goal and I did make it to the store to stock up on healthy items, but did not do my “before” photos, which I WILL get done today. In other news, I have a conference in about a month, and I checked my medical records to see about how much I weighed around conference time last year. I was about 5lbs lighter than I am right now, so I am glad I will at least be about the same as last year. Also though, I thought I was 5’6, and all my recordings say 5’7 . . . so 🤪 - really helped move that BMI percentage though 😆.

1/7-175 I tried to eat good over the weekend away. It’s good to be home and back into 2 walks a day while packing the house.
1/8-175 Again. I waited too long to eat yesterday and didn’t eat healthy. For me, I need protein, and I don’t crave crap.

Day/Weight/Comment
01/03 = 160 So far so good with my eating. I kind of hate being back on the wagon, but the day is almost over, so very little opportunity left to fall off.
01/04 = 158.5 very happy to see the scale move in the right direct for the first day, even if I know, intellectually, one day's change is pretty meaningless. Today was a good day for moving and good for eating. I found my lost fitbit and stuck it on the charger so I can be more accurate with sleep and step tracking.
01/05 = 158.1 Yesterday was a good day. Hit all my water in and didn't snack late night, even though I really wanted to. Today will be tougher because we are going to a brewery for lunch with friends and they don't have nutritional information available. I have to guess.
01/06 = 157.1 restuarant visit yesterday went well. I'm doing a dry January, so even though we ate at a brewery, I avoided the most dangerous part of eating out. Also, the food was mediocre, so didn't kill me to eat less that usual. I worked out and did yoga. Drank ridiculous amounts of water. I also took a look at my macro nutrient ratios in the app and adjusted them. Yesterday was my first day of being mindful of my ratios (especially eating enough complex carbs... I had to go searching for them)
01/07 = 155.4 The good: I worked out. I did yoga. I met my water goal. I logged my meals and was mindful of my macros. The not so good: I could have eaten more. I am suspicious of the exercise calorie counter and I didn't eat back most of my exercise calories. This was mistake in hindsight. Today will be the real test. Winter break is over. The kids go back to school and I have to find a new routine that works with real life.
01/08 = 156.1 I'm pretty sure yesterday's weight was a scale fluke and I probably should have stepped on more than once when I saw it drop so much. 😂 More than happy to still be on track. I under ate yesterday, which was what I was afraid of. Now that the kids are back in school, I'm out of the house until late, and it makes it hard to eat if eating out is off the table. I did well on water, and ate quality, though. I could have walked more. I need to meal prep today, and that is my major goal for the day. I have been off added sugar and alcohol since the start of the year. Both things that interfere with my sleep and my moods. Both things I love dearly. But, it's been okay so far. I haven't had a time where I've been fighting a craving.

This is my second round. Trying to shed that stubborn last 10 pounds! Highest weight was 190 lbs. Lowest weight was 145 lbs. Current weight 165 lbs. Goal weight 155 lb. Have been exploring Keto the last 6 months. Now will aim to stay Keto for the next 5ish weeks and plan a 48 hour fast next week to see what autophagy looks like for me.

01/04 165.9 I had too much salt yesterday. I’m still learning to properly balance electrolytes while on ketosis. I’ll drink extra water today. It’ll be hard to avoid carbs today. I’m spending the afternoon and evening with my son’s family (grandchildren ♥️) so supper will be a challenge.
01/05 164.4 Still in ketosis this morning 😊 Rough night though. Woke up at 4 with irregular heartbeat and feeling faint. Potassium too low I think? Ate 1/4 cup of frozen chopped spinach. After an hour heartbeat was normal. Will be upping potassium rich keto foods for the next while. Bring on the avocados! Yum!
01/06 Struggling to get my potassium up. Still feeling off. Day off of weigh ins.
01/07 163.8 Feeling much better! I have to get better at that electrolyte piece of Keto. But the weight continues to go down! I’m going to try a 48 hour water fast starting after supper today. I’ll drink salted (sodium and potassium chloride) and fresh water as I feel the need. And not to waste the effort, over the 48 hours I’ll be focusing on prayer about my health.
01/08 162.9 the thought of missing TWO breakfasts is too hard. I’ll start my fast after breakfast today and end it Thursday late morning.

{{BIGHUGS}} Achhh ... I've been there too many times myself. Don't beat yourself up! Sometimes pizza & cheesecake DOES feel soothing in the moment especially when we're used to dealing with stress that way. It's just food & sodium weight and it's temporary ... nothing to throw in the towel for but you know that.
I'm really sorry that you're having to deal with a very stressful situation. I hope that things settle soon for you and your son.8 -

What we need to succeed is a sustainable way of eating, not a DIET we go on and off.
This is NOT A DIET. It’s a LIFESTYLE.
1/2 131.5
:::::::::::::::::
1/3 131.0 I have been having some intestinal distress for several days which may finally be passing although it sounds as if a battle rages!
1/4 131.0 Today is the 48th birthday of our first born. I remember the icy roads and the 8 mile, 45 minute drive to the base at 2AM, and the poor fellow at the gate trying to chip the ice off the sticker which gave us access to the base, his panic when Carl said I was in labor. AT 5:08AM, a beautiful 8# 1 oz, healthy baby girl appeared. She has become a beautiful woman, a wonderful mom, and a caring nurse.
1/5 130.5 Our new mattress was delivered yesterday. I wish I could say I felt I slept great on it but I think there will be an adjustment period. I hope.
1/6 131.5 I’m so tired! Awake before 5AM again with the start of a headache which has now gone. Used sucralose sweetener yesterday and today in my coffee instead of stevia. I think that may be the cause of the gain as I only ate 1/2 of my Greek salad yesterday and one egg. Dozed off tubing and accidentally deleted my whole post. I need a nap!
1/7 132.0 Did not drink close to enough water yesterday. I was so sleepy all day that I fell asleep in my recliner at 7:30 last night. Carl woke me at 10:30 to go to bed. I showered and was in bed by 11 and slept until 4:38 this morning. Something wakes me every morning at that time! Since I didn’t drink water before bed, it wasn’t the call of nature. It’s irritating.

01/08 - 146.5 - The only exercise I got last night was trying to put together the new treadmill. I ended up you-tubing an assembly video and hopefully we can finish it up in a couple days. Meanwhile, it does feel good to be back to my normal eating habits and I'm hoping I can finish this round with a loss.
@jaccimc63 Enjoy your new treadmill! Don't you appreciate the folks who take the time to post helpful videos to Youtube? I've learned a lot, like how to change the tubes in my bicycle tires and how to put the chain back on. I consult Youtube for my husband when he gets stuck trying to take a part off or put a new part on the mower, car, truck, etc. I learned a song on Youtube last night. Life is easier with Youtube.

01/03 - Thursday - 177.4 - Man, its incredible how quickly things snowball! My holiday indulgences have done a number on my habits. I've got all these cravings and little desire to stick to my habits. I know this too shall pass but its currently an uphill battle. Fortunately this time, I know its not the beginning of the end, just another opportunity to hone my skills and habits and learn a little along the way. In past attempts, these stumbles were the end of my journey but not this time - its really a lifestlye change finally!!!
01/04 - Friday - 176.4 - A mildly better day yesterday. I ate fast food at lunch because I was on my own and didnt bring anything. Then I had more fast food for a snack. But I went for a power walk before I left work, and ate a light dinner and it all worked out. Baby steps. I did pack my lunch today, but minimal stuff in the house for food tonight - maybe an aldi shop tonight? Why is it so hard to remember how to eat in healthy moderation all of a sudden? Time to take a look back at my diary and refresh.
01/05 - Saturday - 175.8 - got to Aldi last night, love their pantry staples! Got a plan today to drink my smoothie, have salad for lunch and eat the proper portion size of whatever we decide on for dinner!
01/06 - Sunday - 176.6 - Weekends are still looking like a holiday celebration. Back to work and habits tomorrow!
01/07 - Monday - 176.8 - I went back and read my journal to see what I was doing differently to lose. It really wasnt all that different, I was just being consistent with my morning habits and lunches. So thats what I'm back to focusing on this week; smoothie and supplements for breakfast, pack my lunch, eat a 3PM snack and cook dinner at home. I was also doing 10 somethings (squats/lunges/wall push ups) every bathroom trip and 10 minutes of meditation daily, so working those habits back into the mix as well. The 170's have ALWAYS been like a brick wall to me though, for some reason it has been the end of my journey many many times, but I'm not letting it end me this time!
01/08 - Tuesday - 175.0 - Feeling really determined! Last night I thought I was still starving after dinner (3 scrambled eggs with cheese and 4 oz breakfast sausage) but I think it was just my greedy mind saying "It was a small amount!" So I drank a big glass of water, did some self care, and enjoyed my planned dessert and I was good! Nice to be rewarded with this little whoosh! I've committed myself to a "no-spend" week (except for fuel and bills of course) to give me a little extra accountability and incentive to cook my meals and use what we've got! So far so good - lunches packed today, dinner tonight is chicken and veggie stirfry, will also be lunches for tomorrow. Tomorrow evening will be spinach and feta chicken sausage with roasted potatoes and creamed spinach with parmesan. Thurs lunch will be ham sandwiches and dinner I'll thaw the chicken chili verde I froze last week - If i make it with rice it should be enough for lunches as well, if not I can do tuna sandwich and DH can have frozen burritos. I have a coupon for a free small cheese pizza that I need to use by Sunday, I'll save it for Saturday night after final weigh in and have it to look forward to as my 20% (food to enjoy!)
