@HonuNui and @rheddmobile great race reports! I really enjoyed reading them. @HonuNui I read yours with a bit of jealousy. That sounds like a beautiful place to run...and you got to meet @Elise4270 and Eric!!! @Elise4270 why is the number on your bib smaller than the others?
@shanaber now THAT was beautiful! Thanks for sharing those pictures.
@lisaloumn2 from your username, I'm guessing you live in Minnesota? I live in Savage, MN.
I had 90 minutes on the Lateral X machine last night, good for 9 miles as I log it. I wanted to go 120 minutes but I learned the painful lesson that nipple chafe can happen indoors as well as outdoors. That brings me to 32 miles for the month, and well on my way to my goal.
I've reached a milestone. My wait for my next run is now down to single digits...just NINE more days! It's been 80 days since my last run.
Yesterday I signed up for a half trail marathon in October, The Big Woods Run. It's a beautiful, easy trail race and this will be my third year doing it. They had a super earlybird promotion and it only cost me $25. The first two years only cost $15 each.
I can get into the 12 hour Loopet Loppet trail race for half price for another 6 days. I'm either going to do that race or a 100K in Kansas a week after that, but not both. What to do, what to do....
I bought our tickets to fly to Portland in April for my race out there. After watching flights go for $250 to $320 round trip, when I finally went to buy I changed my return flight and managed to snag it for $211 RT.
This weekend I'm volunteering for a 40 mile race (Ski, bike, or run). It's the first year for the race and I know the RD so I'm excited to help and see how it goes. He's got some great support from other RDs in the area so I know it will be a huge success. My shift starts at 4am Sunday until noon.

newbie here
Jan 1 : 1.5 =1.5/30 miles, walking 5.6 miles (after run) note: run took 19.13 min
Jan 2: 3.02= 4.52/30 miles, walking 11.13 miles (after run): run took 37.02 min 👍improvment
Jan 3: rest day= 4.52/30 miles, walking 4.11 (after run) I think I pushed myself too hard too fast for a non seasoned new runner the day before. My legs were sore up until last night.
Jan 4: 1.91= 6.43/30 miles, walking 4.22 (after run): no time improvement
Jan 5: 1.5= 7.93 miles, walking 7.47 (after run)
Jan 6: 1.5= 9.43/30, walking 4.5 (after run)
Jan 7: 2.90= 12.33/30, walking 11.19(after run) run took 20.17 👎 today I was lethargic and not feeling it, i consider it a win that I did it at all.5 -
Also, I like running in the cold once I'm actually out there but my runs are so short right now that I walk a bit first to warm up and I don't think I could warm up properly in this weather with a 2-4km run plus 500m warm up/cool down.
Thankfully it's a brief cold snap! Thursday will be manageable at -12C and not much wind. Saturday will be balmy by comparison. It might even be above freezing...6 -

...well, the short version is HonuNui f...messed up. Long version, Elise, Eric and I all signed up under our team name "Keep Running Fat Boy." Evita only registered as an individual. Sookyung thought I was registering her....I thought she did her own....and so she wasn't registered. At packet pickup, I solved it all, and because we were a "superteam" (more than 3 members) and thus not eligble for prizes, race coordinator just told me to make my own bibs for us. Biggest font was 72....not big enough to match the other bibs!

This week is the first time I need to adjust my schedule because of "life". It's all good! I plan to run my "long run" on Sunday, with Tu/Th shorter runs. But Sunday was windy and cold so I postponed and ran my long run yesterday before work. Then last night, we picked up our youngest son and his wife from the airport at 11pm. They've been in the UK for the past two months, so of course we stayed up and talked to them... until 2am. My boss told me I didn't have to come in to work at all, but that's not me. So I slept until 7 and was only an hour late to work. A bonus of normally getting up three hours early.Kids walking to the airport at 4:30am London time.
Tonight I will probably walk the dogs, maybe cycle for a cross training day. I'm not going to stress about it either way.6 -

Well, now I'm thinking about the giant cinnamon rolls at Pannekoeken Huis in Edina.5 -
Plyometirics class last night was good. It was at a PT place that's below our local running store. There were about 8 people there including the instructor, mostly tri guys, some of who I know a little from running group. There was one other lady that I have run with a few times but also don't know really well. The instructor was great. He recognized that I was favoring my right hamstring on my box jumps (if you can call them that), so I told him a bit about my issues and he gave me some good pointers. He said this class should help a lot with strengthening those areas that will take some of the pressure off the hamstring. We did a lot of lateral moving, dynamic stretches and core work. We ended the class with 5-10 minutes of foam rolling, which really reminded me that I need to take the time to do that every night. All in all, a very successful evening. I will definitely be going back.
Speed work tonight. Starting the year with a pretty easy one, 8 X 400s at 5K pace. I will probably go a little slower because I don't feel ready to push that pace yet.
Jan 1-5.2 miles
Jan 2-1.8 miles with Stella +stretching
Jan 3-6 miles with 4 at pace
Jan 4- rest
Jan 5-10 miles
Jan 6-1.7 miles with Stella + stretching
Jan 7-60 minutes plyo class
24.7 miles for January
BTW, it looks like my running name is Lastplace Gottapee. I like it!11 -

Over my weekend of recovery I missed out on 280+ replies! Lol I don't think I'll be able to catch up with everyone, but just want to say how happy I am to have found this group! I've been on MFP a while now just doing my solo thing. And yet, finding a group/community feeling provides so much more motivation for me!!
I'm pretty active on IG if anyone wants to follow my workouts and be support buddies too! Or add me on here! Both accounts have same handle Active_Ambrosia 😊😊😊 I post details/screenshots of all my workouts there.
Yesterday I ran a great 1 mile time for myself and walked a little too. Today I'm getting ready rn for a midday hike. I bought a new water backpack finally so now I don't have to carry my jug of water by hand - it's the little things lol
Anyways. Here's update on my record!
[January 1] Ran 1.00 mile in 14:14 and Walked 0.86 mile in 17:55. (1/10 and 0.86/20)
[January 2] Walked 2.29 mile in 1:10:28. (1/10 and 3.15/20)
[January 3] Walked 0.81 mile in 15:30 and Ran 1.00 mile in 14:10. (2/10 miles running and 3.96/20 miles walking)
[January 7] Walked 0.65 mile in 11:13. Ran 1.68 miles in 27:54. (3.68/10 miles running and 4.61/20 miles walking.
No races scheduled, but I'm in SoCal area and have found a few. Anybody in San Diego or LA County got a good race to jump on? Low-cost + not too long? I'm thinking a 5k would be perfect for me to run/walk on.
See you all later! Happy Tuesday! 😊💪👍6 -
@ActiveAmbrosia - The Surf City races in Huntington Beach are really great. I have only run the HM but they are offering a 5k this year again and it is run right along the beach on PCH. https://www.motivrunning.com/run-surf-city/race/distances/#5k
Looks like the 5k is $45 and registration is still available here
Caren Ware events offer fun smaller 5 and 10k races in and around Orange County, usually themed to a holiday or something and aren't expensive.3 -
Same here! Did half a marathon two years ago, but will not be able to do 5k today... I start again tomorrow - slow and steady. My goal is to do 20 miles in January.

Today, I had one of those days at work that made me want to run and run and run. My plan had 4 miles + Orangetheory, which is usually about 3 miles on the treadmills, so I decided to rearrange my class and run the 7 miles in one go instead. I didn’t look at my watch until the end, I just ran a very easy pace and enjoyed myself. It was just what I needed for the day
I do need a rest day now though. I haven’t run four consecutive days since before the Berlin Marathon, and I know my legs won’t tolerate another day.
January Running Challenge
2nd - 4 miles

8th - 7 miles

Started running first of 2018 then slacked off come May for some reason (up to 3-4.5mi/day).. ready to do better in 2019. My area has plenty of 5K's and half marathons to participate if wanted, in 2019 wanting to get at least 3-4 5K's and maybe some longer distances by December. Feel free to add me, could use the motivation, use apple watch to track my running.9
-
I ran 8km today!!!
Slow as a slug, but ran the whole way. Totally stoked. I'm almost beginning to think this calf injury is on its way out.

It was nearly 60 degrees in these parts today, so I used my day off to head out to the trails and get muddy 9 miles, 1000 feet of gain (~330 meters), two hours of fun. Strava has monthly challenges of running 200km or more and running 2000m elevation gain, and for the first time ever I am further along in the elevation challenge (50%) than the distance challenge (41%). Thanks, trails!
January runs:
(12/31: NYE 4 mile race )
1/1: 8.2 trail miles
1/2: Rest day
1/3: 5 miles
1/4: 6.8 miles
1/5: 6 miles
1/6: 12 miles
1/7: 4 miles
1/8: 9 trail miles
January total miles: 51

2019 Races
March 24: Caesar Rodney Half Marathon (Goal: PR)
April 7: Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (Goal: Sub-75)
April 28: New Jersey Marathon (Goal: BQ)
July 6: Finger Lake Fifties 50k (Goal: Finish)

Today I got to run 1.56 miles home from the gym. It was windy AF. The class was a lot of fun though, more or less just what I’d been hoping for - lots of attention from the trainer, friendly people, and a great workout - I did a Jefferson deadlift! With kettlebells! And I ran home! And then realized I’d forgotten to put my jacket in my bag… whoops. Well, I was planning on going back anyhow. Oh yeah, and the other two newbies (out of six people total) were also runners! We talked races briefly! Neat!
My apologies for all the exclamation marks. Apparently the wind is effecting my brain. That or the fumes from the laundry I've been doing all day.
January Totals: 16.57 miles12 -
Jan2 (3.1mi run) (4.1mi walk)
Jan 6 (3.8mi run) (1.2mi walk)
Jan 7 (1mi run) (.5mi walk)
Jan 8 (3.1mi run) (.5mi walk)
(11mi/30mi) (6.3mi walk)
I ran extremely slow today. Didn’t dress quite right for the weather either. I expected it to feel colder and ended up having to strip a layer and carry it along.8 -
