I’ve decided to go with Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’s for my half training plan. Week 2 has officially begun! Today’s run actually felt really nice. I donated blood a couple of days ago and made the mistake of trying to run early the next morning. I didn’t even make it a quarter of a mile before I had to stop cuz everything was spinning 😂
January miles:

👏👏 I second that!! I love reading all the race details!!0 -
@amirahdaboss Thank you for donating blood, as a former recipient. I now donate occasionally too but the last few times have felt terrible afterwards.5

Potluck at work today meant that I kind of didn't feel like running today but now I'm glad I did. The run itself felt great and I felt like I walked a lot less (only slowed to cross streets).
There was a murder really close to my running route last night which is extra creepy but apparently it was targeted and drug or gang related. That sort of thing doesn't usually happen in this area though.
Won't hit goal this month but my mileage will still be higher than it's been since August! I'll call that a victory. So far I've only missed one run this month!

I ran the entire 3 miles and it felt much better than yesterday! Still slightly awkward. I kept saying get to the corner and you can walk if needed. Get to 2 miles and you can walk. But I never walk, just took it very, very slow.12 -

I'm really thinking about signing up and that might push me over the edge...
Short answer is "No" The closest they have is hot dogs, chicken, and hamburgers afterwards.
Here is what I found on the website:https://www.hogeyemarathon.com/information/faq/
Will there be aid stations and nutrition on the course?
Yes. Aid Stations will be approximately every mile, to 1.5 miles. All aid stations will have water & diluted Gatorade. Hogeye Cheer stations, bands and DJ’s will be located throughout the course to keep runners motivated with FUN. Clif Bloks will be available beginning at mile 9. If you are accustomed to other nutrition, please carry this with you.
Light food and drinks will be served at the finish line in buffet style by volunteers; Tyson Foods will be cooking grilled chicken, hotdogs and hamburgers, for a more substantial protein. Hiland Dairy will provide chocolate milk. Please wear your bib as this will be provided for runners and volunteers only.https://www.hogeyemarathon.com/information/pig-trough-after-party/
PIG TROUGH AFTER-PARTY
Join us for a celebration for runners and volunteers following the races. Tyson Foods will be serving Grilled Chicken, Hotdogs, and Hamburgers to all runners and volunteers.

Ladies who have used the Decathalon stuff (thanks @pastorvincent i think). They are in Australia and post to NZ (woo hoo). Those who have used the running pants, how do you find them? I see they mostly have draw strings and I HATE them usually cause I find they fit too loose around the waist unless I use the drawstring, and then they cut in cause I need to do them fairly firmly to get them to stay up. How do you find that aspect of things?0

8k on trails, that's goal for me for January. Onward to stretch goal of 60 miles.
My husband and I drove out to Stanky Creek to get some more practice there, since the Stanky Creek 8k is the next race in the Winter Off-Road Series. This makes our third time running the course, and we finally did it without getting turned around at least twice! Yay! It's heartening having actually completed the course once without backtracking and standing around looking at maps half the time instead of running. Also a first, nobody fell down! Stanky Creek is still not my friend but I'm starting to feel more competent there.
We're still hopelessly slow - almost thirteen minute miles - but we weren't trying to set any pace records, just get through it with our dignities intact. The only problem is, as my husband remarked when we were done, I'm not sure how much faster we can go. Although no one part of the course is all that challenging, taken as a whole, five miles of constantly charging up and down hills and twists while jumping over roots and "pipe walking" to get up steep places is exhausting. Last week running the course gave me DOMS in my quads for three days. And going too fast on such tricky footing is a recipe for wiping out.
The lady who I'm tied with in the AG rankings for the series ran this course year before last at a 10:38 pace. So there's that to motivate me.
Race is the 10th of February, so assuming we both manage to avoid the flu (had a waitress with a chest cough today, yuck! Don't touch my food!) we have at least another couple of weeks to tackle it and try to improve.8 -
MegaMooseEsq wrote: »Day two point five of being sick and I think I'll be up for getting back to my normal routine tomorrow, if I take it easy. So, you know, up at 6 to walk the dog, do my best to bill eight hours with a mid-day break for strength class followed by a 15-20 minute run home (should be sunny around 20, fingers crossed), then heading to St. Paul for a fundraiser with my husband at the home of one of the named partners of my law firm. NO BIG DEAL! And I am genuinely looking forward to all of this and hoping my energy levels keep coming back. Okay, maybe not the fund raiser all that much, but it'll be good for us to go - my husband does political work and got me my job through his connection with said named partner, who personally invited us to this event so we really do need to go.
Anyhow, I posted on Facebook how bummed I was that I missed running in the snow this afternoon, which is really bonkers but also totally true. I'm trying to be good and rest, though. Generally I find aggressive rest early in to be the best way to kill a cold quickly. This has been a weird one - around Sunday mid-day it felt like all of my energy had been sucked out of me and my brain was a big pot of three-day-old mush most of yesterday. The brain weasels were out in force yesterday, though of course when my husband asked what they'd been saying, I couldn't really identify anything specific. Just general "you stink you lazy stinker and your life stinks" messages. All pretty clearly untrue.
I haven't been sick much the last couple of years so I have no idea if I'm actually on the upswing or not - it feels like I'm getting off pretty easy here since I haven't had any congestion or such, just tired and achy and brain fog. I guess if nothing else I can count this as a taper before the race on Saturday? I've certainly been carbo-loading - I can't eat at a deficit when I'm sick. Or, to be precise, I find it very difficult and generally choose not to bother.
It sounds like if you had to be sick, the timing is good. With the taper, you know.
What’s with the brain weasels? My daughter had “crabbies” that were rogue grumps that she stepped on and they’d attached themselves to her and, well they made her crabby. Sometimes they make her have the “dead fish fits” and she’d flop about. I had to tickle her until one or more (depending on the severity of her mood) died and she farted it out. Worked every time. Maybe your dh needs to tickle you til you toot? I’m not sure what you do with brain weasels. Anyone? I think they are just pent up because they aren’t running. 😝10 -
I was thinking about just going home after work and using the elliptical, but my coworker talked me through my excuses. I ended up doing speed work on the treadmill. I started out in a slower pace and did a speed work every .25 miles. It really made the time fly by, but have been having trouble with my allergies since. It happens sometimes, but the good news is I’ll likely feel much better tomorrow.

Keep up the great work, everyone! I love seeing the consistency in some of your lists so far for the month. And some of you are overcoming things like nasty weather, injuries and a lack of bacon at potential races Don't stop now!
Without a bit of anxiety this time, I went back to the same gym I tried last week, and this time got a 4-entry deal, so I'm already paid up for once-a week over the next month. Did my treadmill workout, tried out a cycling machine, then went to the pool (same building) to swim easy laps outside (yes it's -4C, but the water is warm), and relax on the bubbles/jets. Did my stretching in the water. Felt great. Now I'm off to work!

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen.
Weather radar indicates this morning's pouring rain is going to continue throughout the day. Remarkable how much the snow pack has sunk while absorbing a whole lot of water.

I just looked, they have them in Australia too, although only in one color it seems. I have the same ones in 3/4 length too, also with many pockets and no drawstring. I think those are from their "trail running" line. I also have some of the "road running" pants, they have less pockets and drawstrings. Although with a very wide elastic waistband, so that I usually don't use the drawstring at all, since they stay in place without.

Used C25K for speedwork this morning, 2.3 including the warmup and cooldown, then was off to trainer session for...yep LEG day . All kinds of fun including tap squats, split squats, lunges with rear leg lift to work those glutes...basically killed me. Thank goodness Friday is upper body. Little toe continues to do well, buddy taping for exercise and allowing it to work on its own for the rest of the day.
115.8 miles and 23 days on the run this year.
Run the Year Team: Runderful World
Have an awesome day everyone9 -

Interesting
If you want bacon, the Flying Pig Marathon on the first Sunday in May has some unofficially from someone that evidently cooks and passes it out every year and I believe others along the course do the same as well. The FP was my first marathon and while I didn’t have any bacon during the race I loved the race theme and the support is fantastic. Highly recommend!
On a whim this past summer, to keep the pig theme going, I signed up for the Hogeye during their early registration period. That said, in the fall, I later registered for another marathon on the same day as a good portion of my running group is running Milwaukee and I initially thought of my dual registration as “weather insurance” if snow/cold up north for race day I would head south and if too hot in AR the I would stay closer to home...but also tempted to see if I can transfer the Hogeye race but haven’t contacted the RD to see if they would accommodate as they don’t talk about it is an option positively or negatively on their website.
If you are talking to the RD perhaps you can inquire about a friend not able to run and would they be willing to accommodate a name switch and what we would have to do. Thinking, I could drop my insurance policy and you can save some money as I paid far less than the current price of you want to run this race.

I ordered a pair of these and will report back on the drawstring situation. I'm hoping that like @_nikkiwolf_ mentioned the wide waistband makes the drawstring unnecessary. I do love me a wide waistband.MegaMooseEsq wrote: »Day two point five of being sick and I think I'll be up for getting back to my normal routine tomorrow, if I take it easy. Hahaha, you crack me up. I think my brain weasels might be related to your daughter's crabbies. I'm not ticklish, but my husband's pretty good at telling the weasels to shut up and go away.2 -
You could always bring your own bacon. I have a 10 pound pork belly thawing out and will start curing it this weekend. There's nothing better than home cured and smoked bacon in the middle of a long trail run.12

no run, though i would have loved to. i will call shoveling cross training from this point forward. i crosstrained for over an hour last night. and again over an hour this morning(thanks to my running alarm).
