As many of you know I am a huge fan of Gretchen Rubin ("The Happiness Project" "Better Than Before") and listen to her podcast "Happier With Gretchen Rubin". I have emailed her occasionally with a comment and yesterday she included my comment on her podcast. Wow, was I excited.
Heather, During my long stays in bed first with the compression fracture, then with the cold in December, and now with whatever this is right now, I've listened to books and podcasts, and read a lot of books on the Kindle app on my phone. Like you, I listened to a book that held my interest but clearly contained ideas that I don't agree with.
I returned to dog walking this morning but modified it by walking the dogs before breakfast for 40 minutes, then going back to bed and sleeping for an hour and then walking another 40 minutes which is far less than I usually do. Now that I've read all your posts, I'm going back to bed again.

Attend gym Mon- Thurs from 9:30-11:00 am
Drink like a sailor! (Well like a sailor that loves water/coffee/sparkling waters).
That's all I can do this month. I don't log, but I know what works. Certain meals produce results so I have more days where I eat like that than pizza.👍
Today I see the on base doc, to get referral to see LS specialty doc in Anacortes. Hopefully I will just have to have a chat and be out the door. I really am not keen to show my lady bits to someone not familiar with Lichen sclerosis.
Paid bills easy peasy today. Had pretty much filled everything out last night, so today was just filling in blanks. Should be a good month!

I have totted it up and I must drink 8 -9 mugs of liquid a day. Mainly unsweetened English tea with a tiny dash of semi skimmed milk.. 1 mug of coffee. I fizzy water. 1 Pernod in a large glass of water. One other sort of AF drink. Tea is my saviour and punctuates my day. 5 large mugs a day. I don't think I go short of liquid. Sometimes in the evening I'll drink a large glass of water from the tap if I'm thirsty.

Welcome doglady2002. Please tell us a bit about yourself and what part of the world you live in. There are folks here from all over. I am from Georgia and have been on here for over two years. I have been retired from 5th grade teaching for over 10 years. Have bad knees and keep postponing having them fixed. Have gained 6 more pounds over the last 4 months probably due to not getting out and walking every day plus I really like my wine in the evenings. One 43 yr old son and two grandchildren ages 8 & 7.

Barbie- thank you for starting us off for February. I know you didn’t feel well and I was worried about you. Glad you are better
I lost 2.3 lbs in the three weeks in January I gave up sugar. Mostly didn’t eat cookies, candy, cakes, etc and didn’t add sugar to my tea. I was a little disappointed but I realized one of those weeks I had four days where I sat all day. So for February, my goal is to work on reducing sugar, cutting back on carbs (I need to do some research on that) and getting into a better sleep routine.
Welcome dog lady. There are lots of dog lovers on this thread.

2019 Word: Commit
January Goals:
1. Commit to whole month of 19/5. 100%
2. Continue with MFP recommendations ... calories/log food/etc. 90%
3. New recipe/new food item each month. 100% ... delicata squash is delicious! Avocado muffins are "interesting."
4. Journal each day. 100%
5. Declutter one area of home for 15 minutes each day. 100%
6. Clean kitchen/sink before bed. 75%
7. Resume committed daily prayer/devotional time. Not accomplished.
Lost 10 pounds since 12/30/2018! Four pounds were holiday gain. Six solid pounds were real weight loss.
February Goals: The same. It's working for me. The 19/5 intermittent fasting is working. I'm not hungry and I'm eating well and eating all things in moderation. I continue with the CICO/logging because I think portion control and moderation work hand in hand. I don't care what hours you eat or fast ... no one can lose weight eating unlimited sugar/carbs/calories. Decluttering, cleaning, planning ... all of these things have contributed to this month's success. Onward with February.

doglady, Welcome. I have two dogs who expect me to take them out for long walks every day. I live in NW Washington state where the weather can be nasty at times so we all have good coats (I have hats, scarves, glove, boots, wool socks) so we can handle whatever nature deals out to us. I have been posting on this thread for years and love the friendship and encouragement of the women here. It is through their support that I have acquired many good habits like drinking lots of water, logging food and exercise, and choosing the right foods. I hope you will keep coming back and join our friendly community.

Barbie: Thank you for the February thread! Like Heather, this group is a big part of my life. I hope you get enough rest and regain your energy soon.
Machka: Keeping you in my prayers and good thoughts. I hope you get a resolution that solves the problem and allows you to enjoy long-distance bike rides again. The bone density scan and MRI are both good ideas. I have had two bone density scans, several years apart. The first one showed bone loss and I was advised to take calcium and exercise. The second one was set up by my new doctor. It showed increased bone density to the point I’m out of the worry zone. I am thrilled and very happy about it. I was told by my previous doctor that it was impossible to improve bone-density after the first bone scan but she thought I might be able to slow the decline. That turned out to be less than what has happened. Weight bearing exercise plus Vitamin D3 are the things that I increased and I also started taking alondrate, a bone density medication. The combination is working beautifully for me, although it hasn’t fixed my damaged knee. Keeping my weight down is the best helper for the damaged knee, which is an over-use injury that is not related to bone density. I damaged my cartilage while posting at a trot on a lesson horse for too long. (This is not the same teacher I've had for the past few years.) Losing just a few pounds of weight makes a difference in eliminating knee pain for me. :flowerforyou:
Lanette: You seem to have a very good plan for your health. If you have a slight scar from freezing the precancerous lesion you can cover it with makeup or wear it with pride. I’m betting that it will eventually blend in well enough that you don’t need the makeup.

Pip: I think running with Kirby is an excellent decision and you’re doing the right thing. I’m sorry about the troubles at your work and hope things go well for you. I can think of two things that might apply to the situation. The first is productivity of the employee and the second is personality. I’m betting you’re at the top of the list for both qualities.
In January I let my weight climb a little bit. I was still within goals set for me by MFP but up enough to cause knee pain. I have a problem knee and the extra pounds created pain. My knee told me it was time to lighten up. I’m taking my weight back down to slightly below what is recommended for me and the knee is improving. My goals remain the same. They work for me.

February 2019 Resolutions
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on strength and stamina.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours nightly.
6. Avoid alcohol.
Halt Stress :
1. Am I hungry?
2. Am I angry?
3. Am I lonely?
4: Am I tired?
For any yes answer, you have a practical way to help yourself. If I am hungry, I eat. If I am angry I can find a way to address the problem that caused anger. If I’m lonely, I can chat with this wonderful group, or DH, or call a friend. If I’m tired I can rest or sleep. It doesn’t make life perfect, but it sure helps smooth out some bumps.

January goal was to weigh less at end of month than start. Did that and happy about it!
February goals are to lose another 4-8 pounds
Continue on my law carb/KETO journey

I have read all the post on January thread, but by the time I got to the end there was little I could add to what had already been commented. I will read the 3 pages here, but I expect things will be similar. However, I really enjoy all the comments and advice you proffer.
I give thanks each morning that I find myself still on this mortal coil. Sure, I have aches and pains, and events don’t always go as I would like them to go, but relatively speaking, life is better than the alternative.
Word for 2019 is CHOICE with a different word chosen for each month.
CONSISTENCY was the word for January, and being choosing to be consistent has helped me throughout the month.
January goals were mostly achieved.- log food/stay under goal ✅
- 9000 steps a day ✅(except for 2 days I had gastric flu)
- strength/flex 3/4 times a week ✅
- Lose December baggage ✅
The word for February is PROGRESSION
February Goals:- log food/stay under goal
- 9000 steps a day
- 60+ minutes intentional exercise daily
- Lose 5 lbs
- Complete Weeks 2-5 of 10 week Boditrax course (Week 1 completed today)

Katla - are you noticing any difference since you added niacinimide to your vitamin regime? I'm taking 500 mg a day (started a week ago) and I really do think I can tell a difference. Seems like I'm thinking clearer and speedier. Replaced the ink cartridges in my printer yesterday, it was a snap. Last time I did it I couldn't seem to make them fit (this was a few months ago.) DH to the rescue. Thanks for the advice on the scar. When I stopped working I stopped using make-up (mainly to cover my rosacea flushing) so I have some in the drawer. Another great thing about menopause... my rosacea calmed down a lot!

Finished our taxes this morning. Super easy, the form sure is a lot simpler. And the best part, getting a very nice refund - much more than we expected. Using TaxAct which we have used for years. We didn't change our withholding the first of 2018 even tho a little less was automatically taken out. I'm afraid I let the IRS be our bank, lol. If the credit union was paying a lot of interest I'd change it but for now it's out of sight, out of mind throughout the year.

SW WA State where we might get snow, freezing rain, just rain, or clear Sunday night/Monday, lol. The forecast changes every hour. Pretty guaranteed it will be in the teens or low 20's at night starting Monday.

The niacinimide that I bought at the pharmacy tuned out to contain less than is in the multi so I returned it. I am feeling good overall. The one I am taking is called Super B-Complex and it is from NatureMade. It provides 25mg of niacinimide per tablet. :flowerforyou: Does yours provide more? If so, I'll try to find it.2

My word for 2019 is NOW. I have been more intentional with my eating. So February is going to be a great month.

January goals met:
- Prioritized my health and well being over others’;
- Acheived weightloss goal (after 4 months on Keto /lost 40 lbs);
- Removed “Debbie Downers and Negative Nancies” from my life;
- Embrased relationships with positive
People.
- Secured a FT job through networking that fulfills me (note, I’ve been retired since 9/2017). New job comes with excellent compensation and I get to mentor others doing what I love most.
February goals:
- Return to work at said new job;
- Return to a hobby I really enjoyed years ago (acting in the local little theater);
- Maintain January goals.

Katla - I checked first at Walmart, didn't see any B3 niacinimide. So went to Health Food store and picked up some 500 mg capsules made by Solaray. I also order my multivitamins and 1000 mg of Vit C from Vitacost so picked up another bottle there - Vitacost brand.
I'll let you know if I'm still noticing benefits in a month

The dogs and I had a nice walk together after our third nap of the day.
Here is an interesting question to ask yourself--What would I get up and do on a day when I was really sick? No need to share your answer, but I realized that walking the dogs is what I'd do even if I did nothing else on my to do list.

My second Misfit produce box was delivered today. Buffalo came through the blizzard ok ... sadly, half of my produce did not. The contents were mostly frozen and there was even frost/snow in the box! What would have been a beautiful bunch of rainbow chard was a frozen mass that thawed into muck. I'm wondering what can be salvaged even though it was exposed to sub-zero temperatures. The leafy stuff and summer squash is ruined, but I'm thinking the citrus (beautiful looking navel oranges and limes) can be juiced and zested.
Can you use avocados that have been frozen solid in their skins?
The produce company has already been contacted and they promise to make things right. What a difficult week for shippers!6 -
February arrived in GA for the making of a lovely day, it was 61 degrees and sunny, perfect for getting outside and cutting back roses.
Exercise goals for me were met in January. My exercise Monthly Totals were:
424,261 steps, 661 floors, 182.73 miles, 82,508 calories.
Reluctantly the scale only reflected a 1.6 lbs loss which makes my motivation grow stronger.

Beth - if your chard and other leafy greens are just frozen and then de-frosted they can be used in a soup or quiche like you would frozen spinach....
The avocados will have a weird texture but could be made into a dip or spread.

Beth - more - the citrus can be zested (and the zest freezes ! I keep zest in the freezer in little containers so I never have to buy a particular piece of fruit just for the zest) and when a commercial crop gets hit with a freeze they do juice what ever is ripe, so you can too!5
