Good luck @Avidkeo! You've got this!!
So I have a HM in May that I will hopefully be healthy enough to run but other than that I have not looked or even considered any other races... until yesterday when an email hit my inbox for this:
https://jackjillid.com
It just so happens that we are planning to be in Boise to watch a BSU football game that Saturday so of course I am going to sign up for the race!! There is no start time for the game posted so I am hoping it will be a midday game and I can get to bed at a reasonable time. Have to catch the bus at 4:30 or so up to the race start. I am already excited and it is months away!
Now to get running! PT said I can walk further and run some, starting very slowly... I am planning a 5 min walk 1 min run for 2 miles tomorrow assuming no rain! We'll see if I can keep to that interval.9 -
Well my 100 mile challenge is.... Going anyway!
I'm still not half way through the distance but not too far behind! The lap I do is quite hilly, not steep but just continuous slight gradient so I still have not conquered w5 d1 of c25k! Annoying as I managed it last Saturday and Sunday, but that was on a much flatter course!
I'm using "first day to 5k" program on www.podrunner.com
2nd - 10.44km (w4, w3, w2)
3rd - 10.31km (w4, w3, w2)
4th - 1.84 km (short due to leggings being too big!)
5th - 3.84km (w4)
6th - 4.08km (w4)
7th - 4.11km (w4)
8th - 4.18km (w4)
9th - 11.12km (w4, w3, w2)
10th - 11.18km (w5-1, w4, we)
11th - 4.08km (w5 d1)
12th - took the morning off... After 10 days straight my body needed a rest!
13th - 4.15km (w5 d1)
14th - 4.00km (w5 d1)
15th- 4.18km (w5 d1)
Total so far - 77.5 km/ 161.93km (48%)
https://www.facebook.com/donate/2069247306698727/?fundraiser_source=external_url
Planning on a 10km on 11th may, trying to aim for <75 mins. (Best so far was 1 18 so 3 mins off is doable right?)

Finally, I saw a tip today a runner shared for marathon runs. They hand out $5 coffee/restaurant gift cards along the way to thank a volunteer, child or person cheering. Comment was it provides a bit of motivation and energy uplift as you give thanks as well as shifting focus to the next “winner” vs on any challenges as you knock down 26.2. Good luck on your race!!
Oh that is an awesome idea! I probably could only give out 3 or 4, but still will have to consider this for Pittsburg in May.6 -
Ran 5 today - first run after the shots in the feet. No burning!!! I was feeling the burning at 4 miles approx. So I'm thinking it worked. However, I still have the tingly/sleep feeling in the feet. But I think that is normal.

That is super cool! As a side note, we are first-name twins, but I don't think that I've ever met someone with our name born before 1980. I was born in 1983, i.e. peak Thorn Birds era. It took me a long time to appreciate what a nice name it is given how common it was when I was growing up.5 -
Milwaukee marathon has had issues with execution and distance.
Idk if they had it last year. But new management or something along those lines. Yay. I think I will try to sign up tomorrow.
Lakefront is on my list but i want to be looking more at a 50k around that time. If it fits, i might run it.
Via has a new 10k this year. Maybe I'll try that.
Thanks all for the input. (I didn't even think about the shoes @7lenny7 )
@mbaker566: Facebook just told me that if you sign up for the Milwaukee Marathon by today you can save 20% on any distance entry fee with the code VDAY19.0 -
Now I want a thingy.
Also, going back to the sock game, I've just noticed that the socks I thought had palm trees on actually have marijuana leaves on. And I wore them to the physio 2 weeks ago. Wonder what she thought about that LOL. I think I've officially turned into my grandmother.

Ah, that makes sense! I'm going to keep this one in my back pocket for a possible first marathon (most likely not this year, though). I've heard that the Twin Cities Marathon isn't a great one for first-timers on account of difficulty, and while Chicago has been recommended a couple of times it's so freaking HUGE that's a bit overwhelming. I've never been to Milwaukee and it looks like a nice place. Plus, it's closer than Chicago.3 -

lakefront is a bit bigger and better established. Milwaukee marathon looks nice. i've heard mixed reviews.
Milwaukee itself is nice. we have a great lakefront. awesome food. lots of history and unique architecture. state parks within an hour. a good county park system in mke and the neighboring counties (i like waukesha county parks the best). We have issues like big cities. But overall, i really like it here. thus, me being here and not in OR or WA4 -

It was rare when I was growing up (born 1968) but curiously my best friend in high school was another. And there were a sprinkling earlier than that, since I was named for my mom's partner in her birthing class, who was from Scotland, where maybe it was more common.
Since it was rare when I was little, I had a whole different set of experiences from yours - I was always annoyed that those name plates for kids' bicycles didn't come with my name, and no one could pronounce it!4 -

@MegaMooseEsq There are also qualification requirements to sign up for Chicago, as with Boston, New York, etc. I'm not fast enough for any of them, but was able to sign up for Chicago by fundraising for charity. It's a charity that is working on a cure for type 1 diabetes, so it actually is perfect for me anyway.4 -
Oi vey..... three days and 10 new pages? I don't think I can catch up... whoops!
After my weird feeling run Monday, I ended up taking two days off because of ~*~LaDy PrObLemS~*~ and then went out yesterday around 5:30 after work to do 7 easy... instead I ended up doing 8 miles vacillating between marathon and half-marathon paces while setting new PRs on all the hills on the paved trail nearish my house. It felt amazing. The paces were good-hard; I felt strong and could have kept cruising at that effort even with a HR north of 160 bpm. Since I already decided this would be my cutback mileage week, what with the two rest days, I also decided that yesterday was my cutback week workout
Today I set out for 10ish miles and did a challenging, hilly route in the reverse direction I normally do. Won't be making THAT mistake again! There's one hill I've run down and it felt crazy steep...... running up it was obviously worse. For the first time in ages, I had to walk up a hill on a road run. Then I checked Strava and the hill was between 10 and 17.5% grade, which is freaking STEEP, so I don't feel quite so bad now. This weekend has more miles, but I'm going to endeavor to actually keep them at an easy HR/recovery pace so I can go into the next training block (3 more hard weeks) as fresh as possible.
Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend! Good luck to everyone racing!

I LOVE MKE!! I had never been there until my son started going to Marquette. So much to offer as you mention. I love running along the lake shore, downtown, or the MKE river. Whenever I visit him without my wife I also run the Ice Age trail on they way back. I can't wait to get back there it probably won't be until summer. I'd really like to charter a sailboat and go sailing on the lake.
@MegaMooseEsq I hadn't heard about Tri Fitness getting out of the race business. That explains why I had a hard time finding any info when I briefly considered signing up for the half fast HM. I'm glad someone else picked it up . It's kind of strange though. TriFitness drops the races "due to liability and safety concerns", and apparently they state that no one else is authorized to hold them, and to contact Judi if you're already registered. I did find that Judi is (was?) a co-owner and CEO at TriFitness with Vicki. By further digging around the depths of the interwebs I also find out that Judi & Vicki are (were?) life partners.
Then we find out that Judi started Midwest Multisport Races and picks up the race rosters and will be directing all the former TriFitness races. TriFitness comes out and says:
This sounds like quite the racing soap opera!! Now I'm really interested to hear about your race experience. I feel a lawsuit coming on. It sounds like Judi had a quite the falling out Vicki, which is too bad.
No running yet this week for me. Monday through Wednesday I was working late every night to get a project out the door. Yesterday I had planned an 8 miler but my wife asked me if I wanted to meet her after work for dinner. She said if I had a run planned I didn't need to skip it, but I knew better...
So tonight I'll go out for 4, then get go for 24 or more over the weekend (over two runs)9 -
Ready to go!
