It's a challenge to be sure, the trick is not to use water during that time - just toothpaste on the brush and keep the mouth fairly closed!!!
And the whole being on one leg is....not easy. But it's a great stretch for my achilles.
I had to google Pistol Squats, and now I am VERY impressed with you! I think I fell over just looking at the pictures!3 -
@PastorVincent I had to google it too! @girlinahat I too am very impressed that you can do those at all. Doing them while brushing your teeth is very impressive, indeed!0

Ever since I learned what those were I developed a new appreciation for the athleticism of figure skaters - there's a figure skating move called a "sit spin" that's basically a pistol squat on figure skates. Ouch!6 -

February Total: 75.3k
February Goal: 100k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Interval training today: warmup; followed by five sets of 5 minutes hard/1 minute easy; followed by cooldown. Much better running weather today - temperature 26 degrees F with a lightish breeze from the south. I don't normally manipulate my stride, but I shortened it up a little today and tried to strike more mid-foot than heel. Seemed to make my hip feel better.

er....I should adjust that.
I 'TRY' to do pistol squats. I'm not there yet in depth. not yet. It'll happen......6 -
@girlinahat I still think you're badass to even TRY to do them.
@PastorVincent Sold! You've got a great first review on Amazon for this book. I can't wait to read this adventure.
Today was the first time I've run two days in a row. Granted, it was because I was lazy on Tuesday but w/e. *grin* This time was 2.56ish miles on snow-covered, not plowed roads. Wow! I thought yesterday was rough. Today there were huge puddles at a couple intersections, others had giant piles of ice and snow with ruts and hidden ice. It sure made for an interesting run. I had planned on trying to do a little speedwork here and there (strides I'd read about) but no thank you ma'am. Instead I just focused on keeping upright and running very easy.9 -
PastorVincent wrote: »No run for me today, but today was a fun day. The proofs for my new book arrived, and the ebook was released in all stores.
Now, I just need to write the sequel. Need figure out how to write and do long runs at the same time!
Most smart phones have a voice recorder. Or type as you run. I've done that and it's kind of fun to try and figure out what I typed later 🤣5 -
I already adjusted my goal to 80 from 100 but now I think 50 will be a stretch.
Beacuse life. 😕14 -
I planned to do 4 miles today, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen, because my left knee is throbbing when I walk, let alone run. So I’m giving it a rest today and attempting it tomorrow. That means I’ve got to rearrange my weekend so that my long run is on Sunday instead of Saturday, but whatever it takes.
Anyone have any advice on how to deal with knee pain/soreness? Do I ice it? Any sort of stretches I should be doing?5 -
@amirahdaboss how are your muscles doing? I had very bad knee pain which turned out to be entirely down to overtight and contractured muscles. I learned the hard way that your calves and thighs aren't actually meant to be rock solid and a sports massage every now and then during training is pretty important.
If it really is joint pain then RICE but if it doesn't get better within a day or two I would get it checked out.

February goal: 75 miles
2/2: 13.11 miles
2/5: 5.16 miles
2/6: 5.10 miles
2/7: 5.15 miles
2/10: 8.71 miles
2/12: 3.25 miles
2/13: 3.26 miles
2/14: 5.50 miles
49.24/75 miles completed
I had a really nice run this morning. It was a little windier than I like, but the temp was pretty nice at ~55F. I ran 5.5 miles. It was a little cool starting out because of the wind, but I wore my sleeves and gloves for the first 3 miles and that was perfect. I didn't see any skunks this morning, but I did get scared by a bird. I couldn't see what it was because it was still pretty dark, but it suddenly flew out of a tree and seemed just to be above my head. I gasped and ducked and then was kind of glad no one saw me because I felt pretty silly. As I was coming back home I could see the horizon starting to lighten. It was just a really nice run.
2019 Races:

@Elise4270 What a little sweetie! He reminds me of a "Smokey" we used to have.3

@amirahdaboss Knee pain is entirely dependent on which part of the knee is hurting. For most knee pain RICE will work along with stretching the muscles surrounding the knee and the IT band, the tendon that runs from the hip to just below the knee. A foam roller is excellent for all of these stretches.
@amymoreorless Race hangover possibly? I know that when I was training for something specific I was much more enthused(dedicated?) about getting out there to reach the goal. Afterwards, like the end of last year, I tended to want nothing to do with running. You still inspire me to push myself, even in your funk ma'am ! Just my thoughts.
Little over 6 miles this morning after a grueling core circuit yesterday. Pace was much better than last week though, for the same general workout schedule. Oh well, guess running slower is really adding up for me .
18 miles planned for Saturday's long run. Wife wants me to do an out and back, but ooof, those hills . But needs must and distance is the driver at this point. Not really following an established training plan for my upcoming trail marathon I have decided to participate in, but it seems to be working for me, as my goal for this one is simply to finish, not worried about time whatsoever.

We're at an impasse on the name. All the cats have food names, no idea how that happened... Bean, noodles, goober... This guy is beary to me. See hes Russian blue, bear- russia has iconic bears and berry cuz its food and hes so dang tiny. Dh wants to call him Sergei. So.. serbear-y?
Its so nice today i should be out for a run. But I'm beary sitting, thinking about how to manage the lap top to finish my psych paper (due tonight) and this tiny furry thing that needs me for comfort and warmth... Perhaps the cat heating pad will help me out. My run days are numbered- 20.6 -

I am no doctor and as others have said it depends completely on lots of things that we can not see from here.. but in addition to what was said above, make sure you stretch out your hamstrings. If it does not seem to be getting better with rest, rolling and GENTLE stretching, call a doctor.2 -

02/14: 3.07 mile recovery run
Total: 43.36 miles
Run notes:
Well this run was a huge struggle fest! I was originally planning to do 4 miles at an easy pace, but I could tell after the first half mile that I was going to cut it short. Struggled the whole time to keep my HR and breathing under control, even though I was running 30-60+ seconds per mile slower than my usual easy pace. The issue wasn't my legs so much as my aerobic system that just couldn't keep up. I'm chalking it up to an overly-aggressive calorie deficit the last three days and the hard run I did yesterday. Good thing Manny and I have valentine's dinner at an Italian restaurant planned for tonight! I'll have to be more careful in the future to make sure I'm eating enough; fueling my runs is definitely more important than dropping those last 5-10 pounds.
Upcoming race:
- Excalibur 10 Miler (3/17)
- Wintrust Lakefront 5K (4/13)
- Ravenswood Run 5K (4/28)6 -

in and of itself it's not that bad, but the hills never start. up down up down. so that does get a bit wearing. i run in that area and in the area of the second one. similar terrain (moraines)
but there is a 20% off code for the first one today2 -

I mean if you were used to running in Florida, New Jersey, or someplace else flat that would be insane. It is all about what you are used to.2 -
@Elise4270 Or if looking for Bear in a Native tongue Awasos is Abenaki for bear or the Mohawk word for bear is Okwari (pronounced Oh-kwal-lee)...just some more suggestions,1

I agree. I did a 12K once in Nebraska with just as much cumulative gain.
@mbaker566 I noticed that 2 of those 3 are on the same day (4/6), so you would have to choose between those. Are you saying you want to do only 1 of those 3? Or are you saying you are trying to choose between the first 2 and plan to do the 3rd as well?1 -
So my son just posted to Instagram that he got asked to a Sadys dance... I am really not ready for this phase of parenthood.10
