lakefront is a bit bigger and better established. Milwaukee marathon looks nice. i've heard mixed reviews.
Milwaukee itself is nice. we have a great lakefront. awesome food. lots of history and unique architecture. state parks within an hour. a good county park system in mke and the neighboring counties (i like waukesha county parks the best). We have issues like big cities. But overall, i really like it here. thus, me being here and not in OR or WA
I LOVE MKE!! I had never been there until my son started going to Marquette. So much to offer as you mention. I love running along the lake shore, downtown, or the MKE river. Whenever I visit him without my wife I also run the Ice Age trail on they way back. I can't wait to get back there it probably won't be until summer. I'd really like to charter a sailboat and go sailing on the lake.
@MegaMooseEsq I hadn't heard about Tri Fitness getting out of the race business. That explains why I had a hard time finding any info when I briefly considered signing up for the half fast HM. I'm glad someone else picked it up . It's kind of strange though. TriFitness drops the races "due to liability and safety concerns", and apparently they state that no one else is authorized to hold them, and to contact Judi if you're already registered. I did find that Judi is (was?) a co-owner and CEO at TriFitness with Vicki. By further digging around the depths of the interwebs I also find out that Judi & Vicki are (were?) life partners.
Then we find out that Judi started Midwest Multisport Races and picks up the race rosters and will be directing all the former TriFitness races. TriFitness comes out and says:
This sounds like quite the racing soap opera!! Now I'm really interested to hear about your race experience. I feel a lawsuit coming on. It sounds like Judi had a quite the falling out Vicki, which is too bad.
No running yet this week for me. Monday through Wednesday I was working late every night to get a project out the door. Yesterday I had planned an 8 miler but my wife asked me if I wanted to meet her after work for dinner. She said if I had a run planned I didn't need to skip it, but I knew better...
So tonight I'll go out for 4, then get go for 24 or more over the weekend (over two runs)
Yeah, I didn’t have time to go into the whole thing earlier, but it sure sounds like a messy breakup might be at the heart of this. In any case, according to the emails from Judi she is being represented by my husband’s law firm (totally different department from his) and have the all-clear for tomorrow. I haven’t received anything directly from TriFitness to contradict that. We will find out tomorrow I guess?
Also, good call on dinner last night.5 -
February Weekly Miles
GOAL: 130 miles

02/23 -
02/28 -
TOTAL: 73.54 miles
Boy oh boy, my training has been all over the place. My wife had surgery last Friday and we expected a 1 night stay, but she had some heart issues during surgery and recovery, landed in the ICU for a day and then a normal room for a couple more, so didn't get released until late on Monday. I was able to get a long run in on Sunday when the kids came up to visit with her for a few hours, but the rest of this week has felt off. Probably just because I am working remotely at home this week and so some of my runs have been in the afternoons, which is really rare normally.
Temps have been all over the board as well... start of yesterday's afternoon run was 52F and was down to 38F with strong 20 mph wind that took my breath away by the end (really should have started about an hour earlier and would have avoided that cold blast at the end). Today my run was 16F w/ wind chill of 2F and snowing at the end... which was bad because the light snow was covering the icy patches on the path and almost went down a couple times. First HM of the year just 2 weeks away, so hoping we can get some spring like weather by the time that rolls around.
Have a great weekend and good luck to this weekend's racers!

How about a monthly question?
What are your current running goals? Do you have a PR your chasing?
And maybe tell me something about you, others may not know.4 -
I don't have any running goals currently. I'd like to break that sub 2 half I left unfinished.
Something about me you probably dont know. Im right handed and can write with my left, backwards more legible than with my right forward. Odd? Or can you?5 -
Current running goals - finish 4 marathons or ultras this year.
Current status: Signed up for 4 races...
4/6/19 - Hogeye Marathon (Springdale, AR)
4/13/19 - Flint Hills Trail Marathon (Manhattan, KS)
4/20/19 - Double Chubb 50K (St. Louis, MO - I think closer to Eureka, MO actually)
10/13/19 - Bank of America Chicago Marathon (Chicago, IL)
I'm a pretty open book usually... if there is something you don't already know about me, it's because I want to keep it that way. Chance are, you either already know or can find out pretty easily.4 -

@Elise4270
My number one current goal is to finish my first 50 mile race
The PR I most want to break this year is the 10K. That should be easy since my last 10K was in 2015 and my current easy pace would get me a new PR. I just have to find one that fits my schedule. I'd also like to break my 5K PR. I'm saving my effort for a new HM PR for 2020.
Something about me....I have my amateur (ham) radio license and at one time I could transcribe Morse code.

That is super cool! As a side note, we are first-name twins, but I don't think that I've ever met someone with our name born before 1980. I was born in 1983, i.e. peak Thorn Birds era. It took me a long time to appreciate what a nice name it is given how common it was when I was growing up.
@MegaMooseEsq - I have a friend older than me so born in the 50's named Megan and both (yes both!) of her DILs are also named Megan 😁
ETA - @rheddmobile - I have a Gaelic name (Shana) and I was always upset about the name plates too! That and I always (still) have to spell it and my last name too. I am used to it now but it is annoying. Now most people spell it with a U or a W and without those it is most frequently mispronounced. I did discover that it is spelled the same as a Jewish name as well as Indian which are of course pronounced completely differently...6 -
I actually went out for an intentional run this morning. Well a walk/run as allowed by the PT!! I wanted to go out for about 2 miles give or take and I ended up with 2.7 with the first bit more walking for Hobbes to get his business taken care of so we could actually go, go, go. I tried to be doing a 5 min walk/1 min run but looking at Strava it was more like a 2 min run and there was one point that I started running spontaneously when I should have been walking - oops. It was beautiful, cool and very cloudy out after the rain with more rain on its way this afternoon.
After my 'run' I headed to the gym and cycled for another 40 mins. Not sure why I felt the need to do this but I was already dressed and I have been going to the gym on Fridays to cycle pretty regularly now.

Current running goals are to run consistently(read daily) for the entire year, the PR I am chasing is a distance PR. I will continue to push my long runs every other Saturday as long as I am able. Not quite sure where I will end up with my longest distance, but may get to 50+(inspirations from @7lenny7 and @PastorVincent ).
As @midwesterner85 said, I too am pretty much an open book, if you want to know just ask.
2.5 before the trainer this morning and long run tomorrow of 18, which the wife said I need to make as an out and back as she is not crossing state lines to pick me up .9 -

My current running goal is for my 12k race in May. I'd love to beat my PR from 2013. I'm debating running my first half later this year as well.
As for something others may not know? I had a poem published years ago in a collection, but I couldn't afford to purchase a copy at the time. Last year I stumbled on a copy of the book from a used bookstore online, bought it and couldn't wait for it to arrive. I was really disappointed to find that my poem isn't in that particular publishing.I have a Gaelic name (Shana) and I was always upset about the name plates too! That and I always (still) have to spell it and my last name too. I am used to it now but it is annoying. Now most people spell it with a U or a W and without those it is most frequently mispronounced. I did discover that it is spelled the same as a Jewish name as well as Indian which are of course pronounced completely differently...
@shanaber We are first-name twins, but I didn't know about the Jewish/Indian names. I only met one other person with the same name, spelled the same but pronounced differently than mine. My maiden name was also always misspelled and mispronounced. My high school principal accurately predicted that I would marry someone with a common last name.6 -
@zeesparrow - I have only (recently) met one person here with the same name pronounced the same (correct ) way as mine/ours. I found out about the Jewish ad Indian names from people I worked with. It was a very international company and when they mispronounced my name and were corrected (by others since I just go with whatever) they explained it to me.
For the monthly questions...
My current running goal is to get healthy enough to be able to run regularly and build up to my 'normal' mileage and be able to start HM training the 1st of March. Hopefully be able to run and finish my HM in May. At this point I am not worrying about and PRs.
Something you may not know about me is that I grew up in Idaho. My dad's work took him all over the state to remote areas so we spent pretty much every summer hiking and tent camping in the wilderness.
More current - I love music, especially alternative rock and going to concerts. I am often one of the oldest if not the oldest there but I still love it.6 -

The big goal is to figure out how to stay uninjured while running 2 major marathons this year.
At age 70, Gene D.y.k.e.s said he started running at age 58, and set a new PR at one distance or another every year since. I started at age 55, and hearing Gene say that put it in my head to set a marathon PR at Wineglass last year. The marathon distance was the most attainable target, based on prior PRs; the course was favorable geographically; and the date had a decent chance of good weather. It all came together, and marathon was the only distance I set a PR for in 2018.
This year . . . if I get good weather at Boston, I think it would be possible to break the PR I set at Wineglass. But good weather is not guaranteed, so I'll be happy to finish healthy. PRs at other distances look like more a result of getting lucky and having everything come together right on race day than of hard work. (Of course, hard work would be involved as well.)
Heh. If I run 3:23:00 or less, I can call it a "Boston PR" even if it's not a marathon PR for me.
Something others may not know . . . I may have mentioned everything I'm willing to mention at one time or another. So here's something I haven't mentioned often: I have a sister who does genealogy. A few years ago, she put together a family tree showing medical issues and causes of death. If I shake that tree, an awful lot of atherosclerosis and stroke falls out. I'm doing what I can about that, and count myself fortunate to have fewer medical and health issues to deal with than many other people (including some runners) have.13 -
@eleanorhawkins @workaholic_nurse @PastorVincent thank you for your advice on the knee pain! I ended up doing some gentle stretching and kept it elevated while icing it a bit before bed last night. I still felt it this morning when I was going up/down stairs, but not when I walked, so I decided to give my run today a go.
I took it very easy. Like, a snail’s pace easy, and got 4 miles in. No knee pain during the run, and hoping it stays that way(fingers crossed)

My current running goal is to be consistent with running 3 times a week. I usually get a good start and then "fall off the wagon." So far, I'm on week 10 and proud of it. I was going to say that the PR I was chasing was to better my time on the EXTERRA Panther Creek Trail Run 10K this year...I ran it 10 years ago, when I turned 50, and was planning to run it again this year, when I turn 60. I just looked it up to see the exact date and was bummed to see that it is no longer a 10K. This year they are having a HM and a 4.2 mile race. That stinks. Guess I'll have to rethink that goal.
What you don't know about me? There's probably a lot. The one thing I'm most proud of is that I was in the US Air Force for 15 years and, one of my duties was to help launch the GPS satellites...my name is floating around in space somewhere, as we got to sign a piece of the heat shield on one of the satellites.
Today after work, I took my dog for a 30 minute walk. I had talked myself out of running today - was going to put it off until tomorrow. But, it was so nice out and who knows what tomorrow will bring, so I actually talked myself INTO running. I did 30 minutes and went 2.2 miles. That's a slight improvement over the last time I did this run.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!!!

That is so freaking spectacular! WTG on talking yourself into a run today too...4 -
Congrats on your award @rheddmobile - that's awesome!
LOL, @eleanorhawkins - I snorted at your marijuana socks that you thought were palm trees. So funny.
@mbaker566 - you signed up for the Milwaukee marathon? Yay! Good luck with your training over the next weeks. I'll be excited to hear how it goes.
Good luck @Avidkeo!

Not much to report other than another treadmill run, this time all in one shot after work. My hamstrings and glutes were super sore today so it took quite a while to warm up and I cursed my trainer for the first mile or so. Made a note to remind him that I need to go LIGHT on legs next week before my HM.
Did a little pull-up practice on the assisted pull-up machine while I was there as well.
Monthly question - my immediate running goals are just to survive the Lake Effect HM next weekend and the Spartan obstacle race two weeks later.
This year my big goal is to get a half marathon PR. After next weekend (where I will not attempt a PR) I'm signed up for one in June but haven't decided on more than that. Maybe one in April and I'll do something in the fall for sure.
