Did my first 10k race today! Got a PR for the 10k. Strava clocked the distance at 6.3 miles and an unofficial time of 1:03.17. I really think I can get under an hour with slightly better conditions, so that is my goal for my next race in a month.
It was 72 F and crazy humid this morning. The first mile was still and hot and I was sweating through my shirt by the first mile marker. Once the course got out of the highrises, a little breeze broke through and I was able to speed up comfortably with splits of 9:15 and 9:30 for miles 2 and 3.
Then the hills started. For many of you, these hills would barely seem like a bump in the road, but Houston is FLAT guys! I ran all of them, slowing down some to maintain a pretty constant effort and HR and letting gravity carry me a little down the hills. By the time I made it to mile 4, my calves were getting tight but I was still on pace to make it in under an hour so I tried to keep my pace up.
I slowed some with the hills but at mile 5 a sub 1 hr finish was still possible. Then, it started raining. It actually felt really nice but didn't last long. The humidity and my inexperience with hills caught up with me and I finished at just over 1.03. I'm happy with my time given the tough conditions!
The bling! It is also a belt buckle!! How Texan is that!?!

I hope all the rest of the racing goes well this weekend, and congrats @MobyCarp for the 1st place AG finish, and to @martaindale for the 10K PR!
I hit the ground running back at work this week, but have kept up the HM training plan—it’s still early (just finished week 3) but feeling doable, so I’m optimistic and planning to register very soon! My 16 yo agreed to do a 5K with me in March, which is timed for the training plan, so that’s definitely on deck. And today was a pretty classic late winter run for here. Cool and soggy, a bit of sun, a bit of rain.

@MobyCarp Another great race and report. Congratulations!!
@martaindale Great run! Go Team Five for Nineteen!!2 -
@martaindale WTG on the 10K PR!2
-
@MobyCarp Well done! You just keep knocking down those AGs!
@martaindale Wonderful first race! Sounds like you really have a good head on your shoulders. Slowing on the hills was very wise and not something new race runners think of. Most try to maintain PACE, but you should maintain EFFORT like you did.

No run today. Messed up in my plans and missed my window for it. Ah well. If I run 30-40 miles tomorrow I will still make my goal for this week! I have a solid 3ish hour window to do it in too. Should be easy, just have to hold a steady 6 min pace for 30 miles.8

Run notes:
Well, I've fallen hopelessly behind in the thread this month, I knew it was only a matter of time. Had my first double-digit long run today in over four months!! It was really cold and rainy all day, and I was very tempted to put this run off until tomorrow, but I'm glad I went out there and got it done. I was thoroughly soaked by the end, but thank goodness I had nice merino ls (under my water resistant running jacket), gloves, and socks to keep me warm! My hands smelled like wet wool for the rest of the day thoughmy left foot is feeling a little sore after this run, so I made sure to ice the area twice. I'll have to keep an eye on it, because there's no way I'm going to be taken out with an injury three times in 7 months

Dreadmill speedwork yesterday morning because I thought I would not have a chance to run again all weekend. However, the air quality cleared up unexpectedly this afternoon, and I'm thinking about a long run later.10 -
Slower than a very slow thing going slowly but 5 miles done this morning and it's a long time since I did that. Started misty but Sun came out as I was running by the river and it was lovely. Need to be better with stretches as hamstring was niggling. Brings total this month to 25.

@martaindale Congrats on the 10K PR and awesome bling ma'am!
@MobyCarp Well done on the 1st place AG finish!
Yesterday's run was on the treadmill, keep coughing up lovely thick stuff....but still getting some runs in even if shorter and slower than usual. The only thing that stinks with those runs is I can't track them in Strava so they are not counting towards RTY goal. Overslept this morning so missed run but brought workout gear with so can at least get something in after work, whether it be treadmill or outdoors(if some daylight still). 55 days on the run.

I just skimmed the posts, but Hooray for @martaindale and @MobyCarp !!!0

You can add those miles manually in rty. From the calendar, there’s a + on each day. You can edit mileage there4 -

Plan called for 13km. Did 12.5km slower than a very slow thing going slowly and could not talk myself into 500 meters more. @samthepanda I am officially joining your club. Dunno if it was the speedwork yesterday or the lack of sleep. But I did it so there.
@MobyCarp Congrats on your AG win!
@martaindale Congrats on a PR! That bling looks so very Texas.
@workaholic_nurse I heard once that running breaks up mucus and helps the body get it out quicker.5 -

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Well, it was cloudy and windy today, but only a couple of drops or rain during the run. That was clearly the cold front coming through -- temperature dropped 4 degrees F between my start and my finish. Legs felt good today.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K
6-1 Freedom 5K
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5k8 -
@MobyCarp - Great race, and congrats on your 1AG!
@martaindale - Congrats on a superb PR in your 10K race! You attacked the hills perfectly, and no doubt next time you'll get that sub-hour result when the conditions aren't so warm and humid (although does that ever happen in Houston?)
Last night I decided to head out into the wind for a late-night run, partly because I just wanted to run a faster-paced run, but mainly because I wanted to test out the new Soffe running shorts that recently arrived. For the price, they're absolutely fantastic and incredibly lightweight...in comparison to what I normally wear, it felt like I was running naked.I think I'm going to order more pairs in other colours ready for the upcoming spring and summer runs.
