@KatieJane83 sorry to hear about your Glycerin 16's. I just got those a couple weeks ago, replacing my 15's. I have run short and long runs in them, and they feel great. Didn't really notice much difference in 16's vs the 15's. Believe me, I know everyone is different, and shoes are a very personal choice. But just wondering if something else is going on besides the shoes.

April Total: 119k
April Goal: 150k
January Total: 131k
February Total: 159.5k
March Total: 183k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Nice day for running; partly cloudy, light wind, and just cool enough for a long sleeved top. Also felt good, so I ran a little quicker than I normally would. Unless something ugly happens, looks like I'll (barely) meet my goal for the month.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K -- 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-1 Freedom 5K (Will be off the schedule due to another commitment)
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K9 -
@shanaber this will be our 3rd trip to Portland. We've been to both Waffle Window and Voodoo donuts but not to Powells. I used to be a voracious reader but not so much any more.
@zeesparrow did you reserve through Costco by chance? I love how easy they make it and that you're not charged until pick up. For this trip I initially had an intermediate car for $315 but kept checking every week and rebooking whenever I found a better deal. I bet I booked 6 or 7 times.
@KatieJane83 if you decide to try a different model, I found the ASICS Gel Nimbus to be very similar to the Glycerins2 -
@Scott6255 the last model I have is actually the 14s, lol. I did a really good job of stockpiling those. So, for all I know, the 15s could have been the 1st version that didn't work for me. I would suspect other things except that when I run in my old 14s I'm totally fine. So, I think I just finally encountered the Curse Of The New Model, lol. Maybe I'll go to a running store and try out the 17s too, who knows, maybe they changed again!
@7lenny7 good to know and thank you for the suggestion! I'll have to give those a try!
I do still think I'll try the Altras too, I've been thinking about transitioning to zero drop for everything, I'll just need to ease into it. Ideally, I've always wanted to have a couple of different shoes in rotation, I've just always struggled to find shoes that work, but maybe this will be my big opportunity to make that happen!

@7lenny7 Actually, no. I used Expedia. I just checked on Costco and their prices are double my new reservation! Ack!0
-
@KatieJane83 I really like The Zoo! We watch a bunch of animal/vet shows because my daughter loves them and that one is super interesting!!
@7lenny7 Good luck on race day!2 -
@martaindale one of my favorite things about it is the added depth it gives to my actual visits to the Bronx Zoo. It's really neat when you can visit and make connections to things you've seen on the show!0

I messed up my streak, the bottoms of my legs were feeling very tight and sore so I new I wasn't going to manage to the end of the month. I have hit my monthly target for the 1st time since Aug 2017 so that's a positive and I'm happy with that!

@KatieJane83 I remember feeling this way about some model of Nikes many years ago. I'd worn probably 3 or 4 versions in the past, but I bought a newer model and they just didn't work. I scoured the internet for a pair of the older model I'd loved and wore those until they wore out, and then moved on to Saucony and Brooks. I'm in the market for a new pair now and don't even know what to do, so I guess it's back to the running store for me.2

I ran at lunch today for 3.13 miles. It was a good run. I wish I had more time at lunch. It was pouring rain this morning when I first woke up, so I decided that I would just see if there was a break in the rain either at lunch time or after work. I knew I would have to run a shorter run, but the idea of getting out in the rain in the dark just did not appeal to me so I went back to sleep for a little longer. It has rained off and on all day, but was not raining at lunch time so I ran then. I really like running before work, but the lack of daylight that early means I run the same route on weekdays. So it was good to run a different route at lunchtime. It is always just a rush to get my run in and get back to work and sometime 3 miles just isn't enough to really get into the run. Too bad I can't just take off as long as I want and then come in when I get ready to. lol

@NCK96 yeah, it's really frustrating! Glycerins are the only shoes I've run in, they were the ones I was fitted in when I first started running when I went to my first running store to get fitted. I feel like I'm losing an old friend! Good luck to both of us with finding new shoes that work!2

So it's getting real!! My very first 10K!

The Glycerin 11 was the first running shoe that I was fitted for, but at the time it was because I was having some foot issues. After surgery, therapy and recovery, I have continued to go with the Glycerins. I do have the Revels too but they are just not as comfortable for me.1 -
I ran this morning while wearing my new sun hat from Costco.
I'm super slow, so it's not like it's going to blow off. I know I look crazy, but the sun in AZ is no joke, and I already have melasma. My dermatologist reminded me about sunscreen at my appointment last week. It was already 79 degrees by the time I was done. If I don't want to deal with the heat and sun I'm going to have to start running at 5 in the morning soon.
I'm at 23.56/30 miles for the month.

Most of my coworkers decided against the run today, so there were only 3 of us. We ran a local hill in preparation for the race on May 5th. Both of the guys have been running a while and are quite a bit faster than I am, but I was able to keep up with them for the first half mile (they ran slow ). Then there was the hill. It's about 3/4 of a mile long, 350' of elevation with an average 8% grade. They went on ahead and I walked quite a bit. I lost sight of them on the way up, and still had no visibility when I reached the top. I went on to the 2 mile mark and turned around, and still hadn't seen them (they ran another half mile down the road before turning around). They told me they finally saw me again just as I started heading back down the hill, and didn't catch up until near the bottom. They were still going faster than I wanted so I just toodled on back to the car. Total of 4 miles (with an extra loop in the parking lot to round off) in just under 49 minutes. Best of all, I am now over my goal for the month!!

Morning all!
ANZAC day here - I guess the equivalent of veterans day. Have come to the city to go to the movies (avengers, woo hoo) and stayed the night last night in a hotel. Across the road is the Hatea Loop - a shared walking/running/biking track around the river in the centre of the city. Its 4.35kms to do the loop, so I did it 3 times to get 12km run in this morning. It's basically just flat so a nice easy run. Total for the month 141/150!

Barefoot caveman weather!1 -
5.66 slow miles today. I thought after having gall bladder removal, perhaps I would stop being bloated in the days following races. Unfortunately, that hasn't worked out. I'm still about 10 lbs. of water heavier in my abdomen after last weekend's race. The onset was a day or 2 later than normal, so perhaps it will go away a day or 2 later also. By Fri., hopefully will be back to 'normal' weight and not feeling so bloated that breathing is affected.

Got a little longer treadmill warm-up in before today's circuit training group. Not quite enough time to get to 3 miles though, which was my intent. Another not-too-intense session tonight and then I did yoga again, which was a lot more low key class than usual also with lots of great stretches tonight.9
