Why did you come to the conclusion to lose weight?

My cardiologist asked if I wanted to lose weight or have a stroke. I chose lose weight.5

My five year old coming up behind me jiggling the fat on my butt:/ Lol
Not only that, I am an older mother who wants to be healthier. With this diet
and cutting calories I am still tired but hoping that will soon end.1 -
When I struggled to breathe, after running after the bus. Just that feeling of, I’m struggling here to breathe after a 5 min run to get the bus. I want to be healthy and happy. I want to improve my cardio skills and if losing weight comes with it then it’s a bonus.3

When I'm out of breath walking up the stairs to the train at night. I avoid long stair climbs like the plague, but this one I have to do. And by the top I'm barely able to finish. Part of it is arthritis in my knees, but the bigger factor is my weight. The last time I lost the weight, it was no effort at all. That's where I want to be again.1

I've already been losing for a while, but a couple of recent HbA1C readings just edging into the prediabetes range (and diabetes runs in my family) have made me extra serious about it.0

I had a couple of straightforward operations and at each pre op I had abnormal ECGs, went and had heart tests, the best they could tell me was non specific changes, no real cause found, don't worry, off you go.
Then my sister aged 57 dropped dead, no cause found, then 3 years ago my brother aged 59 dropped dead, no cause found.
The Coroner said Sudden Unexpected Adult Death Syndrome.
A few months ago I had another operation, another ECG, still abnormal, went off for more heart tests.
They said I had abnormal conduction of my heartbeat and being technical ..widening of the QRS complex & inverted T waves and after more tests no cause found, hmmm.
So, there's nothing I can do about my badly behaved heart, there's nothing to fix, they can't find the reason and maybe this is why my 2 siblings died, I don't know.
So in a nutshell I got scared enough to think what CAN I do to help myself.
Starting to lose weight and a gentle walk everyday is doable. I'm too scared to join a gym or to do vigorous exercise in case my heart packed up, but a nice long walk never hurt anyone as far as I know.
If I get to my 60th birthday in October of this year I will have lived the longest out of my whole family including parents, plus I'm fed up of being sad & grieving. I'm going to throw the biggest party.
I want to feel better and have a fresh start and forget about my heart. Nobody knows how long they've got , but while I'm here I want to lose weight, put some happiness back in my life, try new things, travel. I feel excited at the prospect, I cannot wait to shed this and other loads, put down my burdens and feel good again.
I don't feel deprived starting this weight loss journey, I feel liberated.
ETA I have about 80lbs to lose and can I ask for new MFP friends so we can motivate each other.
I'm also an empath & good at supporting other people, so if youre shy, struggling, depressed or have any difficulties, I like to think I'd be a good friend so please feel free to add me .13 -
Someone asked if my mom (size 2) was my real mom.3

When there was embarassment from other members of my family on my behalf regarding the size of my PJ's that I recieved as a Christmas present.
I was going to the gym already, but they were offering a boot camp starting January 7th and so that started my eating well program too. I lost 7kgs and 20 inches in those eight weeks. Still going strong and keeping up with PT and classes as well as eating well!

Before I went to basic (a long time ago), I was at my highest weight. I lost about 50lbs, but I ended up on a limited PT profile. After my med board I started gaining all the weight back. I stepped on the scale recently, and I had hit a new heaviest weight. Not exactly the record I was looking to set for myself. I was telling my boyfriend (who lost weight using MFP) about it, and he's now helping me with my weight loss while trying to lose his last few pounds himself.3

I can no longer get on my horse without a mounting block because I'm not quick enough anymore!0

I was into dancing, and suddenly I couldn't bend like I used to because there were rolls of fat in the way. My double chin made falling asleep on long car journeys (passenger, obv!) more uncomfortable. And all the clothes I'd been happily wearing for over a decade no longer fitted, and it's hell on earth trying to find trousers and jeans that fit my new shape.2

i got stuck in the back seat of the car at my daughter's high school graduation. poor kid was mortified.4

33 isn't middle-aged.
Unfortunately, for many that don't take care of themselves, it is.3 -

I had started losing weight before I got pregnant with my oldest child, but I had never noticed how much I had gained until I realized my delivery weight was the same as my first weigh in after I decided to start eating healthier. Before that I have no clue how much I weighed because I wouldn't go near a scale. That was my biggest wake up call, to think that at some point I was heavier than I was at 9 months pregnant (edited to add: right before delivery I was 235lbs)1

I am only 17 and bigger than all my classmates. I get made fun of a lot for it, ever since 3rd grade. I am tired of that three letter word written in invisible ink on my head: FAT.8

MFP is for 18+ so beware. FatSecret allows users 13 years old or older.2 -
When I stopped wearing scrubs and realized none of my “real” clothes fit anymore. Have to get my life together!3

My birthday is coming, my boyfriend is planning a weekend getaway at the beach to celebrate it and I want to look awesome : )3

I lost 16 pounds last year and gained nearly all of it back since November last year. I don't want to be heavier than my fiance anymore and I want to look good in a bikini again.1

I wanted to wear a size 10 and become a lifetime WW member0

I hate seeing photos of myself. I accept that I am heavier and that it is my own fault, but it never quite hits me how big I am until I see pictures.1

Joined back in 2017 but never really kept on track. I never had a weight problem growing up so its HARD to accept my new reality. I weigh more now than I did 9 months pregnant. I have to get healthier! My husband just got some bad results back from his latest health screening for work so we're going to try to do better on food. I need to do better on simply moving as a I have a very sedentary desk job.2

I have a trip coming up. Disneyworld with my kids and I want to be prepared to keep up with them. But also, because at a certain weight, I can feel it. Which is around 260, Sure enough old effects started happening again: thirsty, out-of-breath, clothes too tight. Plus this summer, might include some interviews and I want to look my best.2

I had a moment of realisation in a dress shop fitting room last week.
I realised I would need to go up another dress size and buy a whole new wardrobe...again. At 217 lbs starting weight, I am now 2 entire dress sizes away from my beautiful "normal me size" wardrobe.
I already had to buy a temporary, limited options wardrobe when I went up a size last year at around 190 lbs. Now I've gone up a second time. I keep very close control of my budget so this goes against everything that is reasonable!! Point blank, I refuse to pay to buy a wardrobe another size larger. It's a stupid waste of money and I won't do it!
2 years ago I was in great shape. I used my Fitbit and it kept me on track. I connected with others and we did challenges together. Then I took a job that doesn't allow people to wear a smart watch or have a cell phone in the office... it all started going downhill from there. I lost the connections I had to keep me motivated and fitness took a back seat in my life.
I'm a person who needs to exercise to maintain a healthy weight. Diet doesn't get it done, I need to move my body and compensate for my sedentary job. So I am hoping, day by day with access to my phone in the evenings, I can use MFP to keep me going, even without a smart watch. 3 days in and so far so good9 -
the realization im goin to college in the fall and the fact that i rarely take photos because i hate how round i look in comparison to all my friends who dress in M-XS clothing3

When I started to feel like crap all the time and had multiple palpitations daily as well as a couple panic attacks with scary symptoms (cold sweat, racing heart, tight chest.) Also, my blood pressure crept up to 170/90, sometimes 178/110 when stressed. Cardiologist said my heart sounded fine and prescribed me blood pressure medication.
That was 4 months ago, and so far, I have lost 76lb.9
