not too sure about the raspeberry choco, may not get thru it. the pb and choxo is yummy. and i don’t mind the cool way mocha brownie fudge
Thats what I mean about value for your buck. Why spend $5 for 500ml tub and still be 90-100cal range, when you can spend $4 for 2L tub and still get 90-100cal options?
but i want what i want (flavour wise). and i actually don`t want a full tub, i like to have my bit then get it out of the house. you can`t get THOSE kinds at those calories in the yogurts you listed. i don`t buy these often and it was a big random to have three in the house at once.
having said that, I DID look and did not find the frozen yogurts you listed with the better stats unless i get plain vanilla which i don`t want. Went to three stores and the selection of frozen yogurt was sad. will keep my eyes open for more options.
to each their own. i rather buy the flavour i prefer and smaller quantities as a treat VS best deal.
RCSS, NoFrills, Lablows they all have them all the time. Spend less to get more and excellent taste, why not? Scoop out the 500ml and throw the rest out, you are still saving money.
I will say though, as a person who has to eat a stupid amount of protein now, the extra protein content might be a viable reason, but that's a pretty specific case. It doesn't justify the cost for me, but I could see it for someone else.0 -

Can't you see? There's a nuanced philosophical discussion about consumerism and advertising happening here! Hahaha
(A joke, but kind of true.)
Gotta say I'm team Chapman's all the way. Small, trendy pints have been taking advantage of us for too long. We want good cheap frozen dessert and we want it now!0 -

Scoop up a serving of your ice cream and let it soften. Scoop and mix in a serving of you protein powder. Place back in the freezer for a bit to set. there is your 200cal 30g protein ice cream.
this. or I actually mix greek yogurt with protein powder, add some chocolate chips, in the freezer for 30 minutes and you have a high protein snack for cheaper that tastes amazing!1 -

I have done this now. Actual pro move. I'm using a low fat high protein yogurt so it actually still has the same protein density per calorie, which is really important on this leg of the diet.
Thank you!1 -

Loblaws is carrying a whole milk dairy dessert. It's not bad I tried the double chocolate. It's like 90 calories for 125mL I think0

Loblwas was like under 500ml. like 480 or something like that.AliNouveau wrote: »Loblaws is carrying a whole milk dairy dessert. It's not bad I tried the double chocolate. It's like 90 calories for 125mL I think
yeah that is the PC one i was talking about. it's ok but the breyers was better i think. Mind you my thing sorta half melted and refroze so i may need to give it another try.0 -

It's still just marketing to me then. Still better to get 2 L of Chapman's froyo with similar calories for 3.99. Sigh.2 -
Just found this thread and making notes!
Walden Farms products I found at Pharmasave of all places! I expect there is artificial sweeteners in their products to make them so low cal, but worth a try.0 -

The usual ~500ml tubs.
Much better deal for volume is the Chapman's chocolate for same price and calories but 2L. But again, you dont have vary many choices of flavour.
this. none of the low fat ones are gonna be a deal financially. but I buy smaller and more expensive because
1 - I don't want a big tub of ice cream in the house. full stop. i have portion control issues even now
2 - the fancy flavours are still much lower call than frozen yogurt options. i checked. PB version of frozen yogurt are in the 160-170-180 cal per 125ml VS 100. To me that matters.

(Slight philosophical rant, not at you, just in general)
I totally get you, but it's unfortunate that this marketing is successful. This ice cream unless enriched with protein which some of them are, are surely cheaper to make as they are using stabilisers and less actual food-stuffs, the enriched ones are also probably cheaper to make too. Haagen Daz and Ben and Jerry's being more expensive makes total sense as they're made of pure cream, so I totally get that, but these aren't. By selling it in trendy pints for more money, and not in the big tubs as well, they're actually taking advantage of the consumer. There's no reason for them to not actually have the creative flavours in their normal offerings. I'm sure a few years from now one of the bigger ice cream players will start doing large tubs to disrupt this, and bring the entire price down for the small ones too, and then I would be more than happy to buy them.
It's a pet peeve of mine to see people taken advantage of. I know this is minor of course, it's just one of those stupid things that drives me nuts. if everyone was a value oriented consumer, better consumer offerings would come quicker. This is the same reason greek yogurt is like $6 a container when it should be $3.3 -

And i get it's not for you. We are looking at it from different perspectives add giving completely different values to the various pros/cons/attributes
I also pay more for locally made ice cream pints (which are more than Halo Top!)

I found the receipes called Looney Spoons on line. Authors Janet and Greta Podleskl. Someone mentioned not sure where in here. It has the calories and all the important things that will help us. Being Canadians. The American food is different. Alot of times I can not find it. In my stores in Canada.
http://janetandgreta.com/recipes/ they have a blog. Plus you can buy there books. They are sisters. Plus they are on Youtube. For those who cannot afford to buy a book.

I think you completely are missing the point why companies created these "ice cream like desserts" (these are not allowed to be called ice cream in Canada, and why they are so popular.
Oh I'm not, they're low calorie and protein enriched and thus very diet friendly, but they are because they are not actually as much real food. There is no reason for them to be expensive other than inflated perceived value. This is a problem with our consumer psychology, that we are often not value oriented, and they can and do exploit that.
I'm the type of idiot that would buy an ice cream maker, and learn how to xantham gum this crap at home out of spite hahaha.
I don't want to keep being a wet blanket so this is the last I'll comment on it.
Soooo products of interest... Have you guys been to bulk barn recently? They got like a surprisingly awesome tea selection that keeps getting better.
Also if you're high protein they have vital wheat gluten which is amazing. Seitan is super easy to whip up.1
