My first goal I said I was going to be AF for the month of June. Well June first I had one beer.....
So then, without realizing it myself, my next goal I stated was AF Mon - Thur...…...hummm…..how the mind works. So much to learn. I really want to be AF with the occasional drink...…...but not sure I will be able to do that. So like the ol group says, one day at a time.
My June goal will be AF Mon -Thurs. (sticking with this
June 1 goal 0 / actual 1 beer
June 2 goal 0 / actual 5 beers
June 3 goal 0 / actual 2 beers. I found today easier. It was almost like I was battling myself TO have the beer. I knew it was in the fridge, that first feeling of coming home with the beautiful sun shining. I was feeling ok without it. I think today will be even easier and I will be AF today.

@Womona Kudos on getting that food scale out! Over my many years of "dieting" I have used it pretty often and feel I have a good handle on it. I brought it out again several times since doing MFP logging. Once I drop probably another 20 / 30 I will need to narrow down my calories and improve on measurements.
I totally get the changing goals! I have a really hard time even setting goals because I never hit them and feel like I'm just setting myself up for failure. My only goal for the month of June is to DRINK LESS than last month, which should be easily do-able since I drank almost every day last month, lol.7 -
Just read an article in a health magazine yesterday...This is just part of it. "Your body sees alcohol as a poison and literally stops all other metabolic processes in rider to remediate and eliminate that alcohol-including fat metabolism..." I enjoy wine...too much but articles like this really make me think...4

I did that...…..but it didn't have the same impact. So, now I'm on my third Day 1 and will just continue reading the book from where I left off. I have gained so much from the AE. I also find that the emails/videos duplicate the book quit a bit. Maybe it takes a few times of hearing it to get it lol.
Hi there! That's really good. I am finding the online Alcohol Experiment site more effective for me compared to reading. Maybe I have attention deficit....but by hearing & seeing the videos, the message seems to sink in better. It also requires me to answer daily questions, so by taking in the info various ways, it helps for the key points to stick.3 -

I am glad you mentioned this because it 100% definitely is a poison with some flavoring and coloring that clouds our thinking - plus the fact alcohol causes cancer (even in smaller amounts)...yet people like myself have been playing the odds, gambling with this....for example, well I run every day or I eat healthy or I take folate (or any of the many reported anti-cancer type of vitamin or supplement). Can't I just "cancel out" the bad effects by doing some good lifestyle changes and get away with it?..........Well here I find myself, health guru, supplement queen, serial runner, well past 50, awaiting biopsy results. This is a dangerous game. Not worth it.7 -

I did pretty much the same but have been telling myself “at least” M-Th so the brain hopefully doesn’t claim the entire weekend as a free for all.

I am going to set my June goals for 4-5 AF days per week. I tried 5 AF days per week in May, but didn't quite get there.
May was 18 AF days for me, would have been more, but the warm weather and sweating it out in the garden led to some rum punches, as did being away. It might be challenging during the summer months, but I am going to try to have some discipline.
June 01 - AF - going out of town in the morning, kind of expect to have a few drinks Sunday.
June 02 - 1/2 bottle of red wine
June 03 - 3 drinks - 2 days in a row, such a no-no. Definitely don't want to drift back into daily drinks, I will have to get a handle on it.
June 04 - AF - It was a bit of a struggle to do AF after 2 days in a row of drinks.
Running tally - 2AF day out of 4 days so far2 -
I’m cutting down this month too! But it’s hard we have had a very social start to the month. It’s easier during the week. My core motivation is weight loss.
June 01 - BBQ w friends wine (3 glasses)
June 02 - bbq with brother wine (3 glasses)
June 03 - bbq with friends - wine (too much wine!)
June 04 - AF (slept so well)
June 05 -
June 06 -3 -

I'm the 6th day and feeling fine. Do I want a drink? Yes. I think I can commit to a dry June because it's just one month. I'm also up a little in weight. I'm goint to try not to weigh again for a few days.7

June 1-5, no alcohol. Goal is to only drink on June 7, 14, and either 28 or 29.6

Interesting listen I thought this group might like. It’s an interview with the No Beer One Year founder. This podcast has lots of announcements/ads at the beginning but then does not interrupt the conversation again. The interview starts a little after the 14 min mark if you want to skip the intro https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rich-roll-podcast/id582272991?i=10004394261222

AF four nights in a row! This weekend is my son’s high school graduation and I have two dinners out booked, but those nights I’m sticking to just one glass.
I wanted a drink tonight and last night, for no other reason than it’s a beautiful night to sit outside, and wouldn’t a nice glass of wine really compliment that? But no! pelligrino and cranberry satisfied that urge to sip something nice outdoors.
I love the food scale- everything about it, except seeing how little 2 oz (one serving) of pasta is. That’s freaking depressing!!!! But my weight is coming down, so that spurs me on.3 -
I remember this time last year in June. I had been on this thread since Jan 2018 and feeling good about my accomplishment in cutting back on drinking. Then the warm weather hit...the fun places started to open back up and the tourists arrived. That could only mean one thing right? Start to drink and party again for the sake of social acceptance.
By June 7th 2018 I was drinking every other day again without thinking before hand. I recall wanting to stay at home so there would not be the pressure of having to drink. It was the good angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other.
This June to date, no drink days recorded. Not staying home, going out being social and sticking to with my AF beverages.
Have a great hang over free weekend my friends.6 -
Looks like I feel back into last year's bad habits!! Last night was my first AF evening since May 10th. Threw in the towel with my daily tracking May 15th but that does me no good since my weight just bounces up and down a pound. Those extra calories are killing me. So back on track going forward striving for 3 days per week AF or if daily drinking stick to 1 glass instead of 2-3.

June 06 - 3 drinks. I really need to get back on track, my weight is starting to creep up. So glad to have this forum, it really does help with accountability. I have a show at a bar that I have tickets to on Saturday night, but I am going to try to save money and calories and not order any alcohol. I have to be AF today (the 7th) so I can at least make it to 4AF days for the week.

Hi Everyone!
I wish I had more time to read more and chit-chat. There has been some great discussions!
Busy time at work and keeping busy in the evenings. Maybe this weekend
June 1 goal 0 / actual 1 beer
June 2 goal 0 / actual 5 beers
June 3 goal 0 / actual 2 beers.
June 4 goal 0 / actual Tied one on...…..wanted so bad to be AF. We were going to Taco Tuesday with the neighbors. I had many mental scenarios playing out in my head throughout the day to work...order tea, water, do you have any virgin drinks you'd recommend??? Ugghhh…...when it came to me to place my drink order, I was numb. My husband knew what I was going through. I caved and ordered a draft. It was a Med....22 ounces!! Really, that's not a medium! So I drank a couple more of hubbies beers when I got home....then that wasn't enough so I had to finish it off with a couple rum and pepsi's. The next day, of course I felt it, not too bad though, but a GREAT reminder of why I am liking being AF. It IS getting easier.
June 5 goal 0 / actual AF
June 6 goal 0 / actual AF
June 7 goal....? / actual...….planning AF tonight. Will be my first Friday AF.
June 8 goal 4 / actual...
June 9 goal AF / actual
June 10 goal AF / actual
June 11 goal AF / actual
June 12 goal AF / actual
June 13 goal AF / actual
June 14 goal...…??? Class get together/outdoor bar-b-q / actual...….sure would be nice to do this one sober and be the dd on the way home.
June 15 goal ??? / actual
June 16 goal ?? / actual
June 17 goal AF / actual
June 18 goal AF / actual
June 19 goal AF / actual
June 20 goal AF / actual
June 21 goal ??? Hosting a Pampered Chef Margarita party......how do I get myself into these things...ugghh LOL

Have a great day everyone!!! and an even better LESS Alcohol weekend!!

Hi All - I just got back on WW and MFP and found your discussion, which I was looking for. I am figuring out really quick that wine is the culprit for my weight gain this year. This group will help motivate me knowing that others are struggling too. My goal will be 5 days AF. Here is how June has shaped up so far:
June 1 - 4 glasses of wine
June 2 - AF
June 3 - 4 glasses of wine
June 4 - AF
June 5 - AF
June 6 - 4 glasses of wine
This weekend we are going to a family reunion with mostly non-drinkers so maybe that will make this easier.
Thanks for your support.6 -
I admire those of you who are keeping a written running tally. It might be a good thing for me to do too. I've just been lurking around here for the most part, but I'm watching and (hopefully!) learning too. So here's what my June has looked like so far:
June 1 - hubby had hip replacement yesterday and it's been a rough couple days; I NEED a drink! (= at least 3 Scotch and sodas. Not sorry, either!)
June 2 - about the same
June 3 - about the same
June 4 -1 glass of wine with dinner; one shot Scotch
June 5 -1 glass of wine with dinner; nothing else!
June 6 - 1 beer with dinner; nothing else!
So far for the month a vast improvement! I mentioned when I jumped in here in April, I guess it was, that I can (and DO) drink a lot for a 54 year old 5'0" woman! Which I am not proud of! I am also blessed/cursed with no hangovers, pretty much ever, as long as I stick to Scotch. But my liver doth protest a bit much, and my weight creeps ever upward. So I am trying my best to get a grip here! I like to drink and I don't want to quit, but I don't want it to rule me, and it's trying to.
So my stated goal for the rest of June is to continue to cut back, to write it down, and to measure every pour, because I'm bad to just dump it right out of the bottle, and we all know how THAT adds up!6 -
Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for the congratulations! My only interactions with alcohol have been to think briefly about what would go well with what I’m making for dinner, and then remember it doesn’t matter lol. Oh and one teeny tiny quarter sip taste of an older bottle just to make sure it hadn’t turned before I added it to a beef stew recipe. No real desire or worry there, I don’t find myself wanting alcohol- just something besides plain water so I picked up some fun sparkling AF beverages for bubbles and flavor.6
-
Went to dinner with friends tonight, and stopped after one glass. I was really feeling that first glass! Glad I only had one. Nice to stick to the plan, on top of four AF days in a row! Yay!6
-
Attended a small instrumental concert last night. Before the show we went accross the street to say hi to friends at a reastraunt/lounge. While walking to the door I was told to just order water because "someone" was fed up with paying $3.00 for an iced tea for me if there was no booze in it.
😠6 -
Here's my Week 1- each serving= 5oz wine.
June 1- 2
June 2- 2 (awesome day, hiked 14 miles)
June 3- 2
June 4- 2 (breast biopsy day)
June 5- 1.5
June 6- 5 (drinking off stress from results- the GOOD- no cancer - but it's pre-cancerous docs say I need a lumpectomy & seeing surgeon in a week; had 2 at lunch and 3 at dinner, still it tallied to 5 which is damaging). I also ate almost an entire Cadbury Fruit and Nut Chocolate. Yep, wine and chocolate for dinner.
June 7- 1
WEEKLY TOTAL: 15.5
How to improve next wk: Started June w/ daily limit is 2, so automatically went for 2 as a minimum. This week I set the bar to 1 - 7oz. plus no drinking until AFTER dinner, 6:30pm. I don't usually feel like it then & we go to bed superearly, so my drinking window is really shortened.
Reflection: As always, I throw in the towel on "stress" days. I hope this cancer scare is a strong enough motivator to get me to ZERO drinks this month. Feeling guilty. I got myself into this mess and now I have to dig myself out5 -

June 07 - AF - Just squeaked out 4AF days for the week. Yesterday I had a tooth extraction and was told no alcohol, but had 3 drinks!
Running tally - 4 AF days out of 7 days so far2 -
Alcohol free June 1-6 and had two 5 oz glasses of wine with one mixed drink on June 7th as planned.4

Oh, Miss May...let me just just *kitten*-slap the fool who wanted you to drink because it was not down to their standards that you ordered drinks without booze.
Now that THAT is out of my system, congratulations on another AF event, and any future events that you attend that may be AF or have a drink limit that YOU set.
You and Orphia are my heros...as are all the fellow strivers on this site. We succeed, we fail, we try again...and yet again.
While the father of my 2 oldest daughters is dying, I've kinda put wine control on the back burner, trying to be mindful that "the call" could come at any moment so I need to be in a good frame of mind to console them if they need it. They probably won't since it had never been a close relationship, but the loss of a parent is a sad event.
Meanwhile, my drunk ex-SIL has this last month moved to another neighborhood [although he had a boozy bonfire last night at his original house across the street that kept me up til midnight]. And another rowdy get-together today complete with loud music and 4-wheelers, and alcohol to his and his girlfriend's mid-teen kids. Including my only grandson. "What you cannot change...yaddayadda.." Sigh.
Continued less wine consumption = more energy = more lawn \garden care \maintainence. Eating a salad daily from my front porch garden [not ground level because, groundhogs]. Weed eating, tree trimming, mulberry picking, mowing my own lawn with a scarey lawn tractor...oh *kitten*...oh *kitten*...oh *kitten*...because my yard is all HILLS. Did it by mice-elf Friday morning, no "training wheels" AKA "SIL #2"....Impressed him, terrified me. Didn't mow on Thursday because there was a deer eating apples in my yard, didn't want to "scare" him\her. Yeah, any port in a storm, hmmm?? But the excuse was NOT that I was hung over!!!!
Just poured my 4th 3 oz glass of wine since 4 pm, empty bottle, no panic. More than usual, but WAY less than in my past, when the 4th-5th-6th glass would have been 5 oz or more...Time to annoy CATpuccino into playtime and sleeping on my lap during ID TV til my\our bed time.
Stay strong, stay happy, stay hopeful....5 -

Hugs!
It's not worth paying over twice that for something that's got chemicals in it that make people annoyed.2 -
OK here I am again with my weekend accountability! My previously stated goals: to reduce overall, to measure, and to write it down here.
From last week:
June 1 - hubby had hip replacement yesterday and it's been a rough couple days; I NEED a drink! (= at least 3 Scotch and sodas. Not sorry, either!)
June 2 - about the same
June 3 - about the same
June 4 -1 glass of wine with dinner; one shot Scotch
June 5 -1 glass of wine with dinner; nothing else!
June 6 - 1 beer with dinner; nothing else!
June 7 - happy Friday! 1 beer with pizza for dinner; two (measured!) shots Scotch and soda
June 8 - morning mimosas (our weekend ritual; every weekend); probably 3 or 4 shots Scotch and soda over the rest of the day
June 9 - ditto
