@RunnerGirl238 that's fantastic!!! Congratulations on your amazing PR. Shaving off 25 minutes is HUGE! I hope you can get in to MCM, that was amazing for me last year as a first marathon but I've heard good things about Baltimore also.

It's such a gorgeous day here, it's a shame I couldn't go to long run this morning because I had to be home for the A/C installer. But I did get a really nice walk with the dog in and I'll run with a friend later. My legs are a bit sore, as predicted, so I want to keep moving a bit to hopefully make tomorrow's trail race not so painful.2 -

Mid 60s F and sunny again today. Planned to do my usual 11k, but had to cut it off at 9k. Think dehydration was rearing its ugly head. Need to remember to make certain I stay hydrated this time of year. Knees were OK, but both hips were a little niggly.

@PastorVincent I've considered Vaseline in the past, but didn't want to deal with the potential mess. Body Glide is awesome and I use it a lot, but when it comes to convenience, I just really like how easy the roll-on bottle of SportShield makes it so quick and simple to apply to those less-than-convenient body locations.3 -

11.25 miles for me this morning. Terrible run. Stomach has been in knots for 2 weeks, and was especially bad this morning. Garmin says it was only 73F, but it felt like 93. About mile 8 I got a sudden headache that made me just have to stop for a minute. Then had a couple more walks until I just threw in the towel.

11.25 miles for me too this morning. It was lightly raining at the beginning. It stopped completely but it was so humid. Unfortunately when I got back to my car a little old lady had reversed out of a parking space and hit the accelerator instead of the brake. She jumped the curb, hit the car parked beside me and knocked it into mine. All three had to be towed. Thankfully no one was injured though I expect the two ladies in the car will feel the impact tomorrow.

Yea, for me Vaseline is the last thing I reach for but at mile 18 of a marathon, in the rain, you do not have many options.0 -

As some of you might remember, I finally had to say goodbye to my old friends the Brooks Glycerins. I've been in them since I started running but the latest model just kills my feet.
So, I finally got out to my local, super awesome running store to find some new kicks! I've been wanting to transition to lower drop (I have Altra Lone Peaks as trail shoes) and also have pairs of different shoes in rotation (since it's supposed to be so good for you) so I took this as my opportunity for both things. The Glycerins were a 10mm drop. My new NB 1080s are an 8mm drop and the Topo Phantoms are 5mm. Gonna get a short test run on at least one pair this afternoon and my fingers are crossed that at least one if not both pairs work out!

For those of you that remember her (she has not dropped in a while), @JessicaMcB is currently in second place for overall females in Survivor Fest! That is 24 hours long nonstop race to see who makes it the farthest.
She is a freaking machine. They are 7 hours in, so a long way to go yet.8 -

I had to stay close to home this morning for the A/C installation so I walked the dog and skipped the group run. I texted a friend I haven't run with in a while and she was up for an afternoon run. I ran over to her house, then we ran 30 minutes, then I ran back home. I really didn't think through the total mileage on this and my legs were/are indeed quite sore from Friday's leg day workout so I'm not sure yet if this was a good or bad idea. I guess I'll find out in the morning when heading up what is lovingly called "Hernia Hill" for the trail race.

Yesterday I got to run 1.78 miles to the gym, my third run of the week, hurray! It was a little rough, actually - I’m still getting a decent bit of pain in my right shin, which is frustrating. I’m taking today as a rest day and hoping to get my long run in tomorrow AM. I’m aiming for 10K for the first time in a few months, and I really need to start building my distance if I’m going to run that 10 Miler at the end of the month.
Before then, I’ve got my very first trail race next week! I’m a little nervous - I’ve never run on trails before and the weather has been pretty hot recently. Are you going to be there, @7Lenny7?
I only stayed for half the class at the gym yesterday because afterwards me and my husband went KAYAKING! WOO! Kayaking is the only form of exercise my husband has ever expressed interest in repeating after my dad took us maybe 3 years ago. Ever since then he’s talked about wanting to buy a kayak and go regularly but it hasn’t happened (he’s a wonderful man but follow-up can be a struggle).
This year I put in some research, found someone local who offers instructions and rentals at a pretty low price, and there we go! And it was a ton of fun! There’s something so peaceful about being out on the water, and I love the feel of zipping around under my own power. I’ve signed us up for REI tours the next two weekends and told my husband that if we make it to both and enjoy it, I’ll let him buy us our own. He’s been doing research ever since.

Did a bit of running up and down the mountain at Fushim Inari. There are thousands of toriis (orange gates that symbolize passing from the world of mundane into the world of the sacred) that line the route from bottom to top. Elevation gain was 200 meters so yeah.. lots of stairs.

I was just playing with a CD i had from the last doc visit. I remembered that the screen in the exam room had a pen line on it exactly where my break is/was and didn't allow me to really see how much healing had or hadn't taken place. I went for that long walk today and noticed my bone hurt exactly where the cut was, I had to investigate.
So here it is, again with a little humor... because it's way cool what you can do in the software. Thanks to all the developers out there.

@KatieJane83 - I love Topo's! Had my first run in the Fli-Lyte 3's on Wednesday and am pretty sure they are my new favorites even though they are 3mm drop. I pretty much wear 0 drop and don't really look at anything greater than 4mm now. I also have the ST-2's in my rotation and now that the ST-3 is out the ST-2's have dropped in price. I am trying to decide if I want to wait and try the 3's or get a pair of the 2's while they are still available since I already know they are great... Of course I also have 2 pairs of Altra's in my rotation so I don't really need any more running shoes.
@noblsheep - I would climb those stairs just because it is so cool and beautiful! Wow! Enjoy!!

More running than posting here at the moment because of all of this upcoming hectic work travel, which starts crack of dawn tomorrow. But I got a nice and easy 10 miles in today and 5 on Thursday, and now I’ll just squeeze it in where I can for the next few weeks. I’m traveling with a colleague (who is also a friend), but haven’t quite yet convinced her to take up running with me (we do some long bike rides sometimes). But we both signed up for the conference-sponsored 5K this week, so at least there’s that!
June goal: 60 miles

Also I've decided to let go of the HM in July. The next few weeks is way too stressful to even think about it. And I do not have time on the weekends for the long runs. I could still do it, run/walk and may well do that.

8k Trail Race this morning. It was a beautiful morning for a mostly shady trail run. The humidity was blessedly not too bad. I've done a previous version of this race, which used to be a 7-mile race called the 7 at 7 (7 am start) and this one was much less brutal. The steep Hernia Hill I was worried about was not on the course at all, we merely waved at it as we passed. The two biggest hills were still tough - not nearly as steep but a lot longer. My friends that I ran with like to do this race every year and their goal is "not last", so we were pretty easy going with it. My sore legs held up all right, but I did walk part of the longest hill.
We achieved our not last goal. It was a small race with only 68 finishers and I was 51st overall, and 6th of 11 in my age group. Most of all it was a nice morning on the trails with friends.

Cloudy and near 70 degrees F today. After yesterday's semi-debacle, was really in a quandary about how to proceed. Thought about taking today as an additional rest day, as my right knee and hip were still bothering me. Also thought about modifying my training schedule by cutting down to four days of running a week. My old shoes only had about 400 kilometers on them, but since I had a new pair of shoes ready to go, decided to try the new shoes today and see what happens. Today it felt like I was running with springs on my feet, and I did my easy training pace solidly. Don't know if it was physiological or psychological, but my stride felt much better. Especially when considering my run yesterday in my old shoes, where it felt like I was running with cast iron frying pans strapped to my feet. So we'll see how the new shoes pan out.

Thursday I woke up late so didn't get out at all. Friday morning's walk was relatively slow and quite short, as my knee was still a little bothersome. Yesterday was another full rest day spent with the family.
This morning my knee felt great, so we went out for a very easy mile or two. After a little over 2 miles I brought the dogs home, changed into a short sleeve shirt and went back out for a total of 5.3 miles today. I'm really pleased, as I wasn't sure I would be up for it. There were no problems though. At about mile 4, I walked long enough to eat a honey stinger waffle, just to start a little food during my runs. I wish I would have thought to bring water along, too. I stretched a little and ran the rest of the way home, where I stretched and foam rolled more.5 -
Today I got to run 6.21 miles on my favorite trail, which was the most I’ve run in months and felt FABULOUS. I had read that this trail was going to be closed for a couple of years but I looked more closely at the construction map and it turns out only a mile was closed with an easy detour. So that was pretty awesome. I officially awarded myself the medal for the virtual 10K I bought a few weeks ago and that felt right.
My right shin started hurting again as soon as I started to run, but since it hasn’t been effecting my gait or hurting when I’m not running, I decided to push through it. It came and went but never got noticeably worse. Unfortunately several hours later it’s started hurting again, which is new and unsettling, so I’m really not sure what I want to do with that. As best I can tell it’s been the same spot hurting and it started after my run last weekend, which was a little longer and faster than my last couple of months of runs, so now I'm nervous about a stress fracture. I feel like I’ve been pretty conservative about increasing mileage what with all the weather and knee issues this year, so that would be a real bummer, but I suppose ignoring it won’t make it go away.

Flooding in the canal between lakes. I took the high ground on my way out but stomped right through the water on my way home and it felt awesome. We haven't been hit by flooding as bad as a lot of the midwest, but the water is definitely still high in places.
Lake! There was definitely less shoreline than the last time I ran here.
