Less Alcohol - June 2019 - One Day at a Time

I am going to set my June goals for 4-5 AF days per week. I tried 5 AF days per week in May, but didn't quite get there.
May was 18 AF days for me, would have been more, but the warm weather and sweating it out in the garden led to some rum punches, as did being away. It might be challenging during the summer months, but I am going to try to have some discipline.
June 01 - AF - going out of town in the morning, kind of expect to have a few drinks Sunday.
June 02 - 1/2 bottle of red wine
June 03 - 3 drinks - 2 days in a row, such a no-no. Definitely don't want to drift back into daily drinks, I will have to get a handle on it.
June 04 - AF - It was a bit of a struggle to do AF after 2 days in a row of drinks.
June 05 - AF - sort of reluctantly, but I know that the scale won't move unless I do AF days.
June 06 - 3 drinks. I really need to get back on track, my weight is starting to creep up. So glad to have this forum, it really does help with accountability. I have a show at a bar that I have tickets to on Saturday night, but I am going to try to save money and calories and not order any alcohol. I have to be AF today (the 7th) so I can at least make it to 4AF days for the week.
June 07 - AF - Just squeaked out 4AF days for the week. Yesterday I had a tooth extraction and was told no alcohol, but had 3 drinks!
June 08 - 3 drinks - I need to rack up some more AF days.
June 09 - AF
Running tally - 5 AF days out of 9 days so far3 -
Friday night was great- only one drink. . It fell apart for me Saturday night and yesterday.
My son graduated and I was a weepy mess, so I went over my one drink limit. After the Baccalaureate Mass on Saturday, I had two at dinner because I was emotional.
Yesterday at the graduation and party I had a total of 4 drinks- which over the course of 9 hours doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s the “why” that is my problem. Ok and the amount too!
I woke up at 3 AM and am queasy this morning. Ugh. Never again. I was all proud of myself , too for last week’s AF streak and moderation on Friday night. Back to the ‘ol drawing board.
But first I need a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich to combat this hangover!7 -
Monday accountability:
June 1st - 9th : zero alcohol drinks
New favorite beverage kombucha. Full of what is good for ya, fizzy and tasty. I am seeing it is not a well stocked item at reastraunts around my area. Need to change that thinking process.
Thanks for the concerns @forestdweller1 and @orphia. Small thinking for small minds I have concluded. Even though I would love to see @forestdweller1 "b" slap the person. 😅
Great to see everyone in here and reading ALL your posts. Never gets old for me to keep up with everyone and learn new ways to drink less.
Keep strong.7 -

@Slimtommie welcome aboard. Unfortunately the wine that so many of us choose to drink really does have a bearing on our weight. I have certainly fallen into that category.
@2kellymike glad your joining us on tracking. I did it to see for myself how successful I was or was not being. Since my memory is shot I needed it in writing no hangovers would be nice. Also bit more challenging to reduce the intake. Good luck.
@MissMay I'm so sorry that happened. That's disappointing people can be like that.2 -

Alcohol free every day in June except June 7 as planned. Even made it a night in Vegas with a Diet Coke.10

Congrats. Also.....LOVE Vegas. To not drink in the town that never sleeps is a huge milestone. Your awesome.3 -

Sorry to hear your having a rough time this month. Keep focused and strong....you will get there.4 -
Hi, I just came across this board and it's been really helpful. I used to be a strictly weekends-only drinker, but over the past year it's crept up higher and higher until I realized that I'm AF only 1-2 nights a week on average (beer and whisky are my downfalls!). My weight has crept up as well--I definitely get snacky when I drink.
I started writing down the days when I'm AF (only two days so far in June), and my goal is to have more days AF than days when I drink, so I have some catching up to do! I have some running and exercise goals in place as well, and I know it will be easier to attain them if I'm not working out through a hangover, so I'm really hoping that helps me go AF on Saturday nights (or at least limit it to 1-2 drinks as opposed to 3-4). Thanks for the ideas and motivation, everyone!

Had a very busy, stressful day at work. At one point I found myself saying I "deserve " a beer tonight.
The thought of stopping to pick up a 'six-pack' tossed through my head a couple times.
When I was walking out again I thought about it....Wait....STOP!!!
What am I thinking??!?!!
How quickly I've forgotten!!
I felt like crap at work yesterday after JUST 4 beers! My body is begging me to stop.
So I did ....
Detoured to sonic. Ordered a diet cherry limeaid and a corn dog.
Took a few minutes of downtime....well, this message is my downtime before heading into the grocery store.7 -

Welcome @renpup to our group. You will find we are all striving for different levels of less alcohol in our lives for many reasons. A point you made in your post, was/is a down fall of mine to. Getting snacky when I drink. If you have not already seen page one of this monthly thread ...take a look. It has tons of informative stuff to help you in this "quest for less".3 -

NICE JOB Teri keeping a level head after a stressful day. 😁2 -
Went out to meet up with friends that came to town. Strolling around, we saw there was a new brewery that had opened. Despite the fact I am not a fan of craft beer I do enjoy the interior atmosphere of a brewery or winery. There were sample fights brought to the table. I joined in and sipped three of them and then drank 3/4 of the 4 ounce pour of the jalapeno beer. Only because I love hot spicy food and drink.
Was good....stopped after that one, walked around more and enjoyed the sun that finally came out late in the afternoon.
Mid week WE GOT THIS!5 -

Thank you, @MissMay! I stayed AF again last night and have zero regrets about it this morning! I also started the Alcohol Experiment (saw it mentioned by someone on here) and it's been really helpful and eye-opening.3 -
Hi Everyone! Was on this group earlier and it really helped... then fell off the wagon with diet / exercise / drinking too much. Back at it now, the nice weather is here which makes it hard since patios are meant for beer but I'm going to try and limit that to the weekends for the rest of the month! Joining the Monday - Thursday sober movement! (and limit drinking on Sunday only to a couple since Monday hangovers are the worst).
Jun 1-10: Too many drinks... only 2 AF days.
June 11: AF4 -

Oh, I know it's so weird to say I don't get hangovers but it's true. I can drink A. WHOLE. LOT. to the point I don't remember going to bed, or what we watched on TV, etc., but I pop up and go about my day when the clock goes off the next morning. Not sick; not head-achy. I really kind of wish I DID get ill, because I hate to feel sick, and it might truly make it easier to cut back. I'm 54 years old, 5'0' tall, and about 150 lbs. I must have a wooden leg, as my Pop would say! Please don't think this is something I'm proud of, either. It's truly a bizarre problem to have!
Anyway, here's my accountability list for this week so far:
June 10 - 2 Scotch and sodas
June 11 - 1 beer with leftover pizza supper (and I didn't like it and didn't finish it) and 2 Scotch and sodas
June 12 - geez, it's only Wednesday!?

AF since Monday, and I had no desire for my Wednesday-night-after-practice drink. I was tempted when I saw everyone drinking, but did not imbibe. This is literally the first time I’ve gone out after practice and went AF! Very proud of myself.
Double bonus points, glad I didn’t have a glass of wine because I could not afford the calories! I was starving after practice and got to eat more food!6 -

Been AF since Monday, but feeling apprehensive about this weekend. Friday night has been my night to tie one on for YEARS, even when I wasn't drinking all that much at all. I signed up for the Alcohol Experiment and am feeling inspired to try and go a whole 30 days w/o drinking.
I'm keeping in mind right now all the ways alcohol has let me down (I'm not a fun drunk after two drinks [who stops at two drinks?!], I turn into either a weepy mess, or an argumentative lunatic, unless I'm at home and I just fall asleep on the couch mid-movie with my husband). Maybe if I go AF on a Friday night I can actually stay awake past 9:30? Wouldn't that be fun?3 -

@renpup and @MissMay I ALWAYS get the "snacky" when I've been drinking at night...…….and then the next day the recovery food.....this is why I'm here Well, one of the reasons
@MissMay Excellent job out with friends. I have that challenge tonight. I have not made it to day four yet. Today is day four. I want to break that cycle. Like you, I have two friends coming to town for dinner out. My drinking girls...….they have now retired and are having fun......I have been practicing "water please". I don't trust myself yet with the will power to have just the drinks there, if I do I'd probably stop and get a "six pack" ( I am ready to move to the 6 pack instead of the 12 pack).
@renpup I also am doing the Alcohol Experiment. Like I stated in paragraph above...….working today on getting to day 4 for the first time in over 12 years.
Have a great day everyone!!

WOOT! And it’s my team! And there was definitely alcohol consumed! But I had 7 am meetings and aside from thirst and a slight headache I made it!
Saturday is the parade and won’t make any promises about AF that day either!

Read this second paragraph before you order any drinks tonight! Pretty compelling reason to stay AF on a Friday night. You can do it!3 -
Had one unplanned glass last night- I really felt it. I’m turning into such a lightweight, which is a good thing. Bad thing is I still reached for some crackers, even though I was done logging and was at my calorie goal. Up half a pound today as a result. Grrr...5
-
@Womona I had the same experience last night. I ALMOST made it to 4 days AF. But it was 7:15 and so dang nice outside I went to join my husband working in the garage ( I just supervise while petting my poodle and chose to have a beer. Funny, just one beer and my head reminded me of the pain it can cause as I was waking up. Just enough of a touch to say....Hey you...….what are you doing??? So that will help me to be more prepared for my first social AF tonight. Getting together for our monthly class get together. Tonight is a back-yard bar-b-q. I am taking flavored water with fresh raspberries and crushed ice. Oh! And my Yeti wine cup to put it in
Also, thought I posted it, but don't see it, my dinner with girlfriends got cancelled last night.....whoot whoot!! That took the pressure off2
