However I’d like to participate in some way! Last year we ended up running our half the day before Dennis’s relay and there were enough kiwis and such in weird time zones that it ended up connecting to the relay anyway.1

While flipping through Strava this morning I noticed @garygse post his Marathon in memory of @MobyCarp and was blown away...I have been fairly busy at work these days and slack on logging on for this thread.
@MobyCarp was truly an inspiration whom I, and many others, looked to as running mentor and for advice on injury prevention and rehab. I will miss his detailed run/race reports. I continue to be inspired by his passion for fitness. Please count me in for the tribute run.
ETA:my slacking on this thread and others will continue for at least the next 3 years as I have been accepted at Brenau University and am starting back this fall to go from LPN to BSN.19 -
@HonuNui @workaholic_nurse I love seeing you both here! I am sorry it is under these circumstances though. I want you two to know that you both are a continual inspiration in my day. I love you both. ( yes i do love all y’all- don’t get jealous). My health care workers are near to my heart, I’ve had such a great experience that it spills to anyone willing to dedicate their lives unselfishly to others. I have hopes of making a career change in medicine, (pa school, G-d willing), in hopes of giving back and honor those that have been there for me.
ETA corrections. Jeez, you’d think I could outwit autocorrect by now.... or accurately reread my replies no matter how choked I get.7 -
Ok I have gotten the spreadsheet into Google Docs and I think it should be accessible to any of you... can someone take a look and check it for me? That you can access, edit, etc. and also that I have the hours specified correctly.

I ran five miles this morning. It was threatening to rain before we left the house, but didn't start until we were about half a mile in. I don't mind it much at all (thanks Kevin for encouraging us all to run in any weather), though I wished I had thought to bring my hat. I spent more time laughing at my dogs trying to avoid the puddles and shaking off the rain, than worrying about how wet I was. Another mile or so down the road, and the rain started to pick up, so we turned toward home. I dried the dogs off (as best I could anyway), had a drink of water, grabbed my hat and went back out to finish the run. Strava said I had my second fastest time on a segment, a quarter mile up a relatively steep hill... which I ran the whole way for the first time ever. I usually have to walk the steepest parts. Today, I just picked up my feet when it got hard and I was able to run it all! I finished my 5 miles a little over a quarter mile from home. As I walked back, one of my favorite songs came on and I was inspired to sprint for a block. I walked the next block or so, then ran another block -- at a 7 min/mile pace! That was so fun.
Oh yeah... Last week I bought myself AfterShokz headphones. I used them on Sunday but wasn't really sure about them. Then I spent a while setting up a running playlist on my Amazon Music app last night, and had a good selection of music I enjoy to listen to. I kept the sound low enough that I could still hear traffic, the sprinklers that came on (in the rain - hehe) and even my own breathing and footsteps. One downside of listening to music while I run though, is when I really enjoy the music and sing along. Out loud. Even better? When I dance down the street, belting out the song. My poor neighbors.7 -
@MegaMooseEsq shared this on FB in case anyone is in this area and would like to attend:
Services for Kevin Clinefelter
Services will be at 11am Thursday at United Church of Pittsford. 123 S Main St Pittsford NY.
There will be an open mic for anyone who would like to share stories/memories
At 6pm we invite people to come to Fleet Feet @ The Armory with coaches Maggie Quinn and Dan Deckman to run, walk, hug, talk and celebrate Kevin and all he gave to running. We also encourage you to bring a picture of you with Kevin if you have one that we can share with Heidi and family.6 -

Thanks!!
I clicked the link and it is in "View Access" only mode. I think the easiest option is to change the ability to edit based on anyone who has the link vs trying to authorize each request. In the top right, there is a "Share" button, click on the advanced options, under "who has access", click Change and from there you will see the options of public, w/link and off (specific people only).0 -
Found it - there was a second option under advanced I had to check. It should be good to go now...0

@shanaber's post from Heidi got me crying again too. I'm registered for a 10-mile race on November 3 so I will add that to the spreadsheet and run in Kevin's honor.
A nugget that I gleamed from his posts were that if you're injury or niggle feels mostly better, give it another day.
I also loved that he volunteered in his spare to help people fill out their taxes during tax season.5 -
July goal: 100 miles
7/2: 6.26 miles
7/3: 5.51 miles
7/4: 6.25 miles
7/7: 9.11 miles
7/9: 6.23 miles
7/10: 6.25 miles
7/11: 6.24 miles
7/14: 10.04 miles
7/16: 6.25 miles (Run in Peace @MobyCarp)
62.14/100 miles completed
I dedicated today's run to @MobyCarp. It is hard to believe that he is gone. I thought about him a lot on this run. I learned so much from him over the last couple of years. He always wrote such detailed reports both of his races and his training runs. He was an inspiration and a mentor. It is so sad to think he is gone, but I am glad he went out doing what he loved.
I thought that today's run was going to suck. When I got up at 5:15 this morning it was 78°F with a feels like of 82°F, humidity at 75% and a dew point of 69°. I had my coffee and got dressed and when I got ready to go out at 5:50 I looked again and it was 77°F with a feels like of 77° and humidity at 76% and still a 69° dew point. When I stepped outside it was just hot. I started out and the first mile was pretty tough. But as I ran I settled into a pretty comfortable pace and the run got better. I headed west starting out and the moon was just gorgeous. It was huge and orange and I could just see it over the tops of the trees. I was hoping that the water sprinklers would be on at Mrs. Walton's house like they were the last two Tuesdays and I was not disappointed. So I ran through the sprinklers and that helped to cool me down some. I did get hit in the eye by a gnat and had a couple of them stick to my face. I didn't swallow any though so that was good. And I ran through a couple of spider webs. I scared a dog. He was kind of big and he was sitting on a porch with a couple of cats. When he saw me he started barking, but he wasn't really barking at me. He turned and started barking at the door and someone quickly opened it and he ran inside. I think he thought I was going to get him. It was funny, I could just imagine him saying "someone's coming, quick let me in, let me in!" As I got closer to home and was heading east the sun was coming up over the trees and it was really pretty. So even though it was really hot and muggy this morning it was also a lovely morning to be out. I ended up with 6.25 miles and my pace was pretty good.
Thanks for setting up the spreadsheet @shanaber. I will definitely want to participate. I don't have anything scheduled for that day, but I usually do my long runs on Sundays so I do plan to be running that day so I will sign up for a spot for sure.

@workaholic_nurse Congratulations on the decision to go for the BSN! I’m working on an app for a spring start. You have to take the TEAS? I made an 81.3 but decided to re-sit for it. Hopefully I can do better than an 85. Or get into PA school. We could be study buddies! Haha!3

so i was thinking. when i started we had a running shirt. it might be nice to have one for moby.

I failed to keep the speed down to 11 minutes per mile today, so I felt done at 6 miles instead of the 7 I keep trying for. A difference of only 10 seconds per mile means my heart rate spent half the run at "Peak" according to Fitbit. I truly believe they've got that setting a bit low for me, but I'm working on running easier, so as a first step, it'd be great to run in "Cardio" all the time, instead of "Peak."
The bright side is that leaves me with 10 more run days in the month, and 66 miles to spread out amongst them. I feel like I have budgeted reasonably well. I'll take it.
Since I've been eating all those party snax like it's my job, they're mostly gone. The ones I liked, anyway - the tempting things. Perhaps I'll be able to get back on track with the logging tomorrow. I skipped a day on the scale, and was not surprised to see the higher number yesterday. I was surprised this morning to see a new low number, though. So all the snax are apparently not doing me any great damage. Or maybe tomorrow the scale will register a new high. Who knows? Back on track is a good goal - let's focus on that.
No More Than 120 Miles
.........
July 15 - 5 miles
July 16 - 6 miles
Total: 54 miles

I will have to double check, but I think I run a marathon on 11/3. Will signup later when I can confirm details.4

Thanks @shanaber for sharing the post from Kevin's daughter, the service details and the spreadsheet. I will for sure participate in the tribute run. It's a little early to know if I'll have a race that day and what time, but something should work out.
Love all the posts and running dedicated to MobyCarp. He was definitely a fixture in this group and we all learned from him.

I ran on the treadmill at the gym this morning again - there were some sprinkles and a threat of storms so I didn't risk getting soaked outside before my class. I think it might have been equally humid inside the gym though. So sweaty.
Weather looks miserable for the next several days - hot, humid, thunderstorms. Not looking forward to a hill workout tomorrow.6 -
My goal is 60 miles this month. I think that I ran 57 miles last month... so not an unreachable goal.
July 1....4.26 miles (Monon trail)
July 2....4.66 miles (Monon trail)
July 5...4.17 miles (Monon trail).
July 6....2.03 miles (treadmill).
July 8...5.22 miles (Monon trail)
July 10...2.4 miles (treadmill).
July 11...5.26 miles (Monon trail) So running after finishing a long stretch of work days. Felt a sharp twinge in left knee around mile 2 and left hip achiness. Changed my posture and shortened my stride and it went away.
July 14...4.01 miles (Monon trail) First run after coming back from Cincinnati. Had a lot of R & R....much needed. It was a good run, my best pace in a while. Very hot here and I waited a long time until the temperature was in the 80's. No achiness noted. It was an uptempo pace with some intermittent sprints.
July 15...5.29 miles (Monon trail) More tired. The temperature was in the 90's most of the day and it finally started getting cooler at around 7 p.m. I think that the temperature was 84 and very muggy. Most of the trail is shaded...so not that back. Every once in a while I think that a cyclist is going to take me down.
Total: 32.04 miles
Goal: 60 miles.
So my husband and I spent a restful weekend in Cincinnati, primarily to see Peter Frampton in one of his last concerts. We have seen him a few times in the past (I am a huge fan), but I think that this concert surpassed all of his others. We bought his latest CD, which is blues music....it has been number one 4 weeks in a row on the Blues Bill board. Still can't believe that he is retiring. I have noticed that we are always sitting next to people who choose to have conversations when the artist is playing....so rude. They have plenty of time to talk during intermission or after the concert. Fortunately it didn't last long.
Then next day we went to a place called Jungle Jim, a really large international grocery store. I saw vegetables I have never ever seen in my life. I should have taken pictures. I really like cookies from The Netherlands and bought several packages..... Anyway, it is a really cool place.
I have to get back to work. Have a really great running week!

Trying to decide between the Battleship Half on 11/3 and the Haunted Half on 10/26. I will likely only be able to get the time off for one of them. Thoughts?0
-
Missed a couple of runs but for a a good reason. New house, new town and new flat course (no quicker but 1km times are more consistent)
Lots of hosting, alcohol and bad food the last few days. Wife's birthday this weekend which means lots of hosting, alcohol and bad food.
3 july......5km
6 July.....6km
10 july....5km
16 July...5km
Goals
1. Runs............11............4
2. Distance......59km......21km
3. 5k Time.......<35m......x
4. Long Run.....7km.......x

Time off may dictate which race. But, which has better swag? How are the courses? Is one race larger than the other?0 -

Thanks for setting this up.
Is there any particular reason we are starting at the time we are? I usually run at 7am on a Sunday (which will be 3pm Nov 2 for those in New York), however, Mondays I can't start until 9am because of school drop-offs. I'll put my name in the appropriate slots and if it's ok with everyone, maybe we can start our tribute run a couple of hours earlier and/or push it out by an hour (I know our KeepRunningFatBoy tribute went on longer than 24 hours).4 -
Like @workaholic_nurse , I just learned of @MobyCarp 's passing when I saw runs in his memory on Strava.
He was a huge inspiration. I will miss rrading from him8 -
Where is @orphia? Has she heard yet? Her and @elise4270 organised th last one and did a wonderful job.
I’d love to that for Kevin and the group. I am imbedded in school work through the 18th. If someone wants to get it started (and finished), I suggest perhaps taking the one from Dennis and creating a copy, then times can be adjusted. What day and time is the tribute race?
Here is a renamed files to piggy back off of if anyone wants to chip at it. Usually this is a group effort, so unless someone wants to own it, I suggest you have a look if you are inclined to help. If you want to own it, just let us know.

I'm late in chiming in here, but the 24-hour plan was a bit complicated to organize and implement. What would others think of just running anytime on that day rather than keeping it going all day? We could pick our own individual distances, like 2.62 miles or a whole marathon and keep track of total miles rather than time of day in whatever timezone... or maybe follow in his footsteps by PACING SOMEONE ELSE on a run that day? What if we all helped someone else get started in running that day?
I'm at a conference in Denver. There's a great trail near my hotel, too much great food, and not much free time... so I'm not logging except for the workouts that come in automatically from my watch. I just now finally had a chance to stop by, read your posts and grieve a bit with you. Wow, I hope I look that great 2 miles before I leave this earth!
July goal 100 miles

I think that's a fine idea. If you guys want to pay your respects in the manner of your choosing, it should be done. If you want to share the time you ran, it can be populated in the table, if others want to see the accumulated time/miles, that'd be okay too.
Definitely no one should conform especially if they are lead to act in kindness as Kevin would have. That should be encouraged and celebrated.
I probably won't be able to participate. So perhaps I will just cook some eggs and try to trot around my living area. And remember to help others as he would have.

Couldn't help smiling at the egg trot challenge, and yes, also a great occassion to follow Kevin's example and ask ourselves "what can I do to help someone out?"
In running news:
I am SO in love with my Garmin. Thanks again @noblsheep! I have yet to find time to read the manual (work is crazy this month!) so haven't yet figured out the pace alert thing, which I want to, however I did discover that I can set it to my run-walk intervals. Getting some funny looks when I bleep every x seconds in busy areas, but it sure beats having to use the interval timer on my phone! Actually being able to see my pace on my wrist instead of having to hold and look at my phone screen is awesome, as is the fact that it seems to be far more accurate at any given moment than Zombies Run! :-) Still a lot more to learn about it but so far so super!
This morning a random Facebook time thingy reminded me that a year ago today I did my first ever 5 mile run. I've been feeling frustrated with what my overdemanding brain sees as a lack of progress in my running recently, that served as a reminder and provided more perspective on how far I really have come in not much time at all.
Having finished a 9-mile plan last week, I'm currently in a cutback/transition period to get used to 4 runs per week again instead of 3. The Hal Higdon HM plan I intend to start in a few weeks has 3 consecutive running days, then a rest day, then long run, then cross training, then another rest day. Last time round I found after a few weeks that 3 days in a row was too much for me, and had to move them. I ended up running Tues, Wed, Fri and long runs on Sundays. I'm going to start off doing the 3 days in a row (very short distances) and will see whether the legs accept it or not. So yesterday was 5km, this morning was 3km and tomorrow will be just 1 mile.
July goal 85km. Run so far: 56.97km9
