Amen @rheddmobile! Very well thought out analogy. I can't think that deep on my own, but I recognize a good thought when I see him one5

Morning run and strength training today. It was nice and cool this morning - a bit humid once I got started but seems pretty fall-like. I ran a little short on time so didn't quite get 5 miles in before I needed to head into the gym for strength training.
Good luck to anyone racing this weekend!5 -

I run long runs by time. So the way I do my long runs in the heat is run 4:00, walk :30. This gives me a chance to take a sip of Gatorade and wipe the sweat from my face. When I get to the goal time, I run faster to make it to whatever that time is at 10:00 minute miles . So today, at 85:00, I was at 8.42 miles. I ran fast to finish at 8.5M. This keeps me honest instead of goofing off and running too slow- if I run too slow, then I have more to make up at the end. Once the heat subsides, I'll just run straight thru except a few times to walk and drink water or Gatorade. Then I went for a walk with my friend, went to her house for a delicious stir fry, then ran errands. Right now, I have 30,343 steps for the day.
I fly to London tomorrow night so I'll have to do a few runs there this week. The temps are going to be in the 60s so that will be a nice break from the 90s here. Then I plan on feasting on some good Indian and Thai dinners.
Happy Friday night everyone! Have a great weekend!!8 -
Bit of a weak start to the month, but I think things will start smoothing out now that I have a full week in at the new job.

All the formatting and usual functions are there if you use MFP in a web browser. Not sure about in the MFP app.
ETA: Yes, just check my MFP app....all controls are there too. Not sure what you are seeing @shanaber. Maybe my app isn't updated yet?? But I have the Disagree button, so I guess it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i've been able to do all of it on the android app
You guys talking about these? They seem to be working for me, too... but maybe they were down briefly when you posted. I like the disagree button. Now one of you needs to post your opinion about hot dog condiments so I can use it!
Yep that is what I am talking about. I am on the Mac Safari browser and not seeing any of the controls even after refreshing. Hmmm... must be something with my browser.0 -
@MNLittleFinn is at the halfway point in his race and solidly in the middle of the pack.
51.2 miles
14h:32m
129th place out of 229 remaining.
22 runners have already dropped out.
Now he has the great challenge of traversing the highly technical trail through the night.
The first place runner has gone 78 miles in the same amount of time.. Wow!15 -
September Goal: 160km
02/9: 5.11
03/9: 8.11
04/9: 6.73
06/9: 8.46
07/9: 14.06
Total KM run: 42.47
Very windy out there today, but it was warm and the sun was shining so I can't really complain5 -
@PastorVincent that looks like a great park for running! Love a run along a river. And the floating tiki bar looks fun as well.
This morning I got up early (despite a very late night) to go the Terry Fox run at the nearby American school. Unfortunately, I waited 25 minutes for a bus, which should have been every 5 minutes, and was going to be very late, so gave up and did a run in the forest instead. So missed out on the event and seeing lots of colleagues which I like, but also had a longer run, pushed myself more, and didn't see lots of colleagues that i don't like
Pleased with my progress this month: 36 of 100km done already.

It’s been an interesting week - my upset tummy prevented almost all running this week. I seem to have recovered now but a gentle 3km this morning to test the legs was awful. I have a half tomorrow so wish me luck...12

Apparently, it is a BYOB bar, but you can reserve it and they sail out onto the river. Not sure I understand the concept of a BYOB bar, but there it is.
I probably will run there at least sometimes. Got more lunch exploring to do first though.

I see him 41st place at the same point in the race. They must have updated it. That kid sure made some huge progress through the night!
ETA: Depending on where I look, he's in 41st, 44th, or 49th place. The status seem to be a bit fluid as the updates come in. Regardless, he's killin' it!11 -
It's not been a good week for running for me. After starting out with a great 11 mile run Monday I've had to miss two runs since then. Once because my son's soccer game went into double overtime and I just didn't have the time after that, and once because I ended up having to do a bunch of tasks on my "Honey Do" list. Then last night I had to cut my planned run way short because I had to haul dirt for my wife's landscaping project (though I'm doing most of the work it seems). I get home, unload, changing into my running clothes only to be informed I wasn't done yet. So there I was, digging up and splitting hostas in my running gear. I did manage 2 miles with Kody though.
Now I'm just biding my time until I need to head to my 5K in 20 minutes. I now that it's imminent I really wish I had done specific training for it. I haven't had a 5K PR since 2016 and with a minimal amount of speedwork I think I could knock it down a bit. Today's race will be about discovering how much pain I can endure for 3.1 miles. I'm going to go out as fast as I need to get a PR and see how long I can hold on to that pace.

Definitely!!! Beast mode for sure!

Wishing @MNLittleFinn all the best. Sounds like he is doing great!
10 miles this morning. Glad this was still a cutback week. Just felt heavy today. Next week starts ramping up, then plan gets serious. Hopefully that coincides with cooler weather 🤞

February Total: 159.5k
March Total: 183k
April Total: 126k
May Total: 128k
June Total: 161.5k
July Total: 151k
August Total: 133k
Monthly average: 146.6k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Cloudy and cool today. Even managed to beat the raindrops home.
Learned something to be filed under BFO (that's Blinding Flash of the Obvious): Riding in a golf cart for 18 holes is a lot easier on the legs than walking and dragging clubs around for 9 holes. Duh...
...and the other BFO? New shoes can really cure a lot of niggles.
@7lenny7: That's a great observation and my enduring challenge. I appear to be unwilling or unable to pay that price so far this year, and I think I have one more race to find the courage (and the speed) to make it happen.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K - 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K - 31:34 chip time; 31/77 overall; second male 65 and older (no official category)
7-27 Solon Home Days 5K - 31:11 chip time; 95/141 overall; 4/6 age group (male)
8-31 Race for Freedom 5k - 31:39 chip time; 32:00 Garmin time; Third Place male 60 and older
9-14 Gift of Life 5k - off the schedule; insufficient recovery time
10-13 Haunted Hustle 5k4 -
@Lazy_Bones_85 That's a lot of steps! WTG! Enjoy your trip to London.
@PastorVincent Nice pictures!
@JMNagain Laughed out out at ".....and didn't see lots of colleagues that i don't like." There's usualy an upside to things that don't seem to go our way. Sorry you missed the race though.
@7lenny7 Good luck with your 5K! I'm sure you will kill it!
