SO TODAY WAS THE DAY OF RECKONING!
Day one of my restart the anti-t-rex plan. UGH, I felt like such a wimp. But the time I got to the last exercise that I was assigned I was not sure I could do it WITHOUT A DUMBELL never mind with a weight. And now my coffee mug feels MUCH heavier. I am sure I was real impressive there. Almost six foot tall, and veins popping in my arms... trying to lift a 5-pound dumbbell! LOL
But day one is done. And I followed the upper body work out with 8 miles just a little shy of my target race pace so that was good.12 -
Ran 3 miles tonight. I am currently at 15.6 total of my planned 60 miles for the month.11

@mbaker566 - OMG - that is terrible and I hope Speed Demon is not too traumatized! Having been bit recently myself and knowing how much that hurt I can only imagine how much pain you are in. Take good care of yourself!
@MegaMooseEsq - Congratulations on your HM! You finished it. Slow or not, you did it! When you are healthier and well trained you will hit that PR I have no doubt!

@elise4270 - Get thru this upcoming surgery and then I know you can conquer that GRE. Just read and reread your answers on the English sections. You can do it, I know you can! I too would do better on the Math sections but have found by carefully rereading any written sections I can do better.
Just a short little run in Reno before we headed out again for a 6 hour drive. It was a shocking 46F when Hobbes and I headed out 🥶 and as a result I ran fast and misjudged the affect of the change in altitude (sea level to ~5000ft). Hobbes also has forgotten all his run training after not running with me most of the summer. We had to stop more than a few times for correction to his pulling in front and off to my side and once he was almost hit by a truck and scared the crap of of me! I didn't realize it until later but there was also quite a bit of smoke and ash in the air drifting into Reno from a fire in CA. I was coughing and thought it was just the dry air. No running tomorrow but will get in a nice walk along the river here before we head off to WA for a few days. Then we will come back to Boise for a football game and then my HM.

Long run across the city and into the forest.
Saw this guy: And some cheery red squirrels are two different men who might have just woke up in the woods, and a runner who flew past me out of nowhere and then must've got a cramp or something cause he stopped and bent over like he was gonna barf, then started stretching. He played it cool when I went past him though, so I didn't ask...
Monthly HM-distance training run streak is done for September I forget how many months I've been doing it. Maybe since December.9 -

So here is a question... when I walk at lunch, I walk between 14 and 15 mins/mile pace. This means sometimes I come upon runners that I am walking slightly faster than.
Do you think it is embarrassing for them / rude for me to pass them? Should I slow down a bit and let them pull away?0 -
Wishing you better @mbaker566. @MNLittleFinn - oh my goodness! Cannot begin to imagine the mental and physical strength involved in an ultra like that. Super inspiring!

I got back from vacation late Saturday night. Heading to a conference in Orlando today but I’ve packed my running clothes and hope we’re staying some place where I can get out and run early in the mornings before the conference.

No run for me last night. I had 8 miles planned but on the way home I realized that would be 4 days in a row running, which I'm not used to, and the last two runs were hard runs. I decided to be smart and skip the run and I'll get those miles in tonight instead. I'm really trying hard to run smarter to avoid the injuries I've had the past two training seasons.

It's only rude if you walk circles around them.10 -
@PastorVincent I am one of those slow runners that has experienced it from the other side. When I get passed by a walker, I do get a bit annoyed, but it isn't you... it is me. It reminds me that I am slow, but that isn't news to me. And I would not expect someone to slow down to try to make me feel better. That just makes it way more awkward. So just keep doing your own thing.11

Thanks everyone! My legs are feeling a lot better this morning, just a little lingering quad stiffness. It felt good to write all that out - it was quite an experience.
I'd been planning on going to the gym this morning but then my husband managed to break our shower, which wouldn't have been too bad since we have two other showers, but then he broke it worse trying to fix it, so now the water is off until the plumber can get here sometime today. I'm still hoping to make it to the 5 or 6 PM class, we will see.@MegaMooseEsq that was a great RR and a great race! You overcame much adversity to even show up, great ob on the finish! I'd been feeling a little hesitant about running the Bemidji Blue Ox the weekend following my TCM double-header and decided just this morning to pull it from my schedule. Maybe next year! That said, if your invitation from last year to pace a loop at the Loopet Loppet still stands, I've got the weekend free now. Assuming that a super slow trail noobie would make a helpful pacer, of course.2 -

I just do not want to discourage people that are out there getting after it however fast they are going.1 -

I ran 6.25 miles this morning. It was a really good run. It took me a little bit to get into the groove, but once I did it was a great run. I played Zombies Run and evaded all of the zombies so that is speed work for me. I had my 3rd best 10K time according to Strava so I felt good about that. It is still pretty warm, it was 75°F and even though the humidity was only 78%, the dew point was 67°. I am looking forward to some fall temperatures even if it doesn't seem like we will ever get them.
@PastorVincent I would probably be embarrassed if I was running and a walker passed me and I would probably try to speed up. But I wouldn't think that the walker should slow down because of that, and I don't think it would be rude for you to pass them.

Congrats @MegaMooseEsq! Great perseverance, and will be inspiring for me on my first HM this Saturday. I'm a bit nervous actually. I have a time goal in mind based on my training runs (anything under 2:30), but I'm not sure why I don't feel like I can do it. I'm actually hoping to just finish at this point.
Although I'm excited by the race and venue itself - It's a Marine Corps Half at Camp LeJeune, NC...most of it is run on the base itself, so looking forward to that experience!9 -
@PastorVincent I would probably be embarrassed if I was running and a walker passed me and I would probably try to speed up. But I wouldn't think that the walker should slow down because of that, and I don't think it would be rude for you to pass them.

You can do it! I went into this one just wanting to finish, not expecting a PR, and it felt great crossing that finish line. I think it's easy to lose track of the fact that finishing a half is a HUGE accomplishment when it feels like I'm surrounded by stronger runners (900 or so in the case of this particular race!). I have to step back to the world of non-runners and remind myself what a big deal running that first continuous mile was back before I was sucked into the world of races and intervals and cross training and PRs.9 -

You are so very correct! I need to think about the actual accomplishment that finishing , even attempting one is!
I've come a long way as it is, and never imagined I would be a runner let alone trying a half!

Yeah, @PastorVincent just do you, don't worry about embarrassing the slower runners. As long as you aren't yelling any snide remarks at them as you walk past, but of course I know you wouldn't do that.3

That sounds like a very cool race! Trying to figure out a time goal for your first race at a given distance is very hard to do. Using your training long run paces, as you've done, is probably the best way to go. That should ensure you can comfortably finish the race and allow you to focus on the moment and the experience. Have an awesome time!
@MegaMooseEsq I was actually thinking about your interest in pacing the Loopet Loppet last year and was planning on asking if you were interested until I saw the Blue Ox race on your schedule. YES the offer still stands! My son won't be around to pace this year. We can have pacers after 1:00PM as I recall. For reference, last year my loop paces after that time were 16:00/mile, 15:20, 18:00 and 20:00. yeah, I was hiking those last two. The race this year is on Sunday, October 13th. We can coordinate closer to the date. Cool!!3 -
