Carrie, Lisa from Iowa, welcome! A new thread will start tonight, and Barbie will post a link to it here on this thread, it will be titled Women Ages 50+ for October 2019, or something similar. Keep an eye out for it, and follow us to that one, too! Chime in wherever you choose.
Later, y'all,
Lisa in AR
Yes!!
Over on this side of the International Date Line, we're an hour and 45 minutes away from October.
Many of us will be posting our October goals and looking at how we did in September in the new thread.
See you there.
Cheers!

In the years I've been using MFP and posting on this thread, I've created and maintained some very good habits--drinking water, logging food and exercise, seeking every opportunity to be active, reading this thread daily, meditating, riding my exercise bike while watching TV, meeting friends for a walk instead of a meal, eating only at specific times of day, and eating primarily nutrition dense foods. Now my plan is continue doing all the things that have been working.
I'll post the new thread for October later today---it will be late for some and early for others.
Now it's time to walk the dogs again. They know I've finished my breakfast.

Terri: WTG!!! You are succeeding!
Machka: We belonged to a sailing club years ago that had a potluck each weekend during the summer season. I ALWAYS took a main dish item that I could eat, and a salad. Self-defense? You betcha!
Connie in KY: A four-pound loss is excellent! WTG!!! :flowerforyou:
We have a beautiful morning so far. The forecast is for mostly cloudy weather. We will see how the day goes. Overnight my bottom sheet ripped. I have another set of sheets ready to go on the bed, and I’m planning to replace the ripped one asap. The sheets have a subtle stripe pattern, and the rip is right along one of those stripe lines. The set is a few years old, but I am not satisfied with the durablilty. Sheets should last longer in my opinion. :grumble:
Newbies: This is the last day for this thread. Watch for a link to a new thread toward the end of the day. Barbie has been giving us this new thread as a wonderful gift for many years. We owe a lot of thanks to her.

Germs - I have worked in healthcare since I was 19. Started in medical records (health information technology), moved to phlebotomist, graduated from college and became a clinical laboratory technologist (now called medical laboratory scientist). I also have a masters in public health and was a food service inspector for a short while. I do not eat at pot lucks or food bars at restaurants. I have told people to put on gloves because I know in KY and OH that touching food with bare hands if it’s not being cooked is a violation. I carry hand sanitizer. My daughter has had about 4 sick days since kindergarten. She is now a high school junior. My co-workers laughed the first time I called off sick because my daughter was sick. They told me to come up with a better lie for wanting a day off.
Seriously need some fall temperatures!! So tired of the heat!

Just skimming. Have to figure out what to do with 13 year old Chewy who is now incontinent along with the anxiety and arthritis and I think dementia.

This morning I was telling Jake about how we encourage and support each other and how we stay away from controversy or criticism and he said that it sounded like the concluding paragraph in the most recent book he had read. Here is a sort of a paraphrase of the paragraph. "We need to work on finding what is truly valuable to us. It simply means to come together in this spirit and learn how best to allow each other the proper space to find it for ourselves."7

thanks Matchka I've been cutting the MFP calories burned in half. There is a little box that says "enter your watch's report of calories burned here" but it doesn't accept my entries, so I just tinker with the sport till I find the one that matches what my watch says. So, I may have hiked 5.5 miles in rough country, but i put in walk the dog. It's a little frustrating. My watch is not connected to this site, but I really like it. The program shows how many minutes I spend in each phase of work: warmup, fat burning, aerobic, anaerobic; heart rate over the course of the hike; pace and length of stride. On days when I don't feel I have the energy for distance, I try for a more rapid pace on a shorter hike - or, in the case of that straight up the mountain hike, just keeping a pace without rest breaks.

Wow, am I knackered!
The Viking stones at Jelling were amazing and it made a real difference to see the site as a whole.
This afternoon we walked around the town ramparts and now we are recovering.
Sorry, too tired to talk much.
Here I am walking over the bridge to Valhalla, the Viking heaven.
Went down to tonight's lecture and kept nodding off.
As we left the port of Fredericia the town band turned out to say goodbye with people dressed in traditional costumes. The ship sounded its horn twice. Everyone waved. Very touching.
Much love, Heather xxxxxxxx who will be arriving in Copenhagen in the morning.5 -
kevrit I'm so sorry your Chewy is getting to that age. My kitty Charlie made it to 21 but his last year was so difficult for him. He went to the vet for kidney support and that bought him 6 months but his old kidneys were just too old and he finally "told me" he was done. I had him put to sleep and cried my eyes out for about a day. Charlie was with me for longer than I was married!

Good morning all and welcome newbies
Yesterday I was feeling rather lazy. Not down or depressed, but just feeling like I didn't want to do much of anything. Ended up going to bed early and slept 9hr+13 minutes! I suppose the daily walks are helping me to sleep very soundly. Normally, my brain wakes me up with it's internal "to-do" list after 7 hours.
Terri Seeing your progress was impressive and encouraging. Congrats and thanks for posting
SuziQ May I suggest the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale from Amazon?

Rho - thank you for the food scale suggestion. Etekcity has some nice features such as a removable bowl.1

Heather: Thank you for the moral support for the flight. :flowerforyou:
Karen in VA: Thanks for the moral support.
Lanette: I hope that Keen comes though for you.
Anniesquats: Good news about your hip! I’m not a rower but I like stationary bikes and elliptical trainers. Barbie has good advice, work up gradually & don’t try to do too much in the beginning..
Rho: Thanks for the good wishes for my travel. From your thoughts to God’s ears. Thanks!
Terri: Congrats on your weight loss progress! :flowerforyou:
Machka: I use a similar strategy when it comes to potlucks. I eat what I bring. It is safe & I know what I’m getting. :bigsmile;
Connie in KY: Congrats on your mom coming home.
On my way to the doctor to lok at a mole change.

On Potlucks - Our neighborhood has a lot of potlucks. Well, our core group of friends in the neighborhood. There are 5 or 6 couples that do communal dinners often. Normally someone cooks the main dish and everyone else brings a side/dessert/bread, etc. I have been in all the homes multiple times and I am comfortable with their processes. Oddly, your comments on cats made me think about it, and none of us have inside cats. Only one has an outside cat. We are all dog people.

HI Ladies!
We had major frost this morning, deck icy. It's warming up tho and a sunny and beautiful day. Cascade passes and the northern Rockies are getting plenty of early snow, we're glad to send it down to you gals in the south. WHEW!
We got out the carpet steamer this morning and DH went over the living room carpet - looks good. He had a fire going in the woodstove so everything is drying quickly.
Keen - I called Keen HQ, they said I had to deal with the local retailer regarding returns. The shoes actually still look brand new other than where I loosened the laces. So I'll take them back tomorrow and let them know the left shoe is abnormally narrow and cross my fingers.
Potlucks; I used to work with a gal who was always bringing in home-made treats, loved potlucks, etc. One day I stopped into her house for something.... I'm sure the cat was up on the counter inspecting everything, if he could even find the counter, it was piled high - not with garbage as I recall, but just a lot of "stuff". So after that time I'd politely refuse her goodies, explaining I was sure I had some food allergies so "thanks, but I better not. Looks good tho."
I have a new pet peeve. Have any of you noticed that the word "contact" - as in "thank you for contacting us about...." has been replaced with "reaching out" - "Thank you for reaching out to us." I'm tempted to say my arm wasn't within 200 miles of you, . I've been seeing this more and more in email customer service responses. Maybe it's a Pacific NW thing.
Cleaning gal coming tomorrow so I need to get this place straightened up.
Have a good day ladies! Tomorrow is October already!

Debby ~ You have a wonderful fruit/veggie stand. Had no idea pumpkins came in so many colors.
Lanette ~ I hope you can exchange the shoes with no problems. It really hurts to pay big money and find out something like you have notices.

Rebecca--Althena has such a beautiful smile. Just what I needed to start my day.
Connie--Sending hugs and prayers for you, your mom and sister.
Debby--Sending hugs and prayers and know that you can voice anything here and will not be judged.
Karen--I am confused is he trying to send the mom home and keep the little girl or send them both home sooner?
Heather--I did find it very interesting and thanks for sharing.
Well tomorrow starts a new and I pray a better month. I know I have gained this month and this last week my eating has been out of control. I am too old to work 70.5 in 6 days.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE Where starting tomorrow we are to get temps in 60's.5 -
Hello Ladies glad I found this thread --- at age 48 every pound I ever lost came back after keeping 50 pounds off for over 25 years - I gained ever pound back plus 5 -- I am on a journey to get every pound of this weight off but need a team of people in my age group that have the same goals7
-
Did one segment of 10MS Butt Lift DVD then the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 20-40-60 workout. After exercise went to the Salvation Army, got glasses to put in the Instant Pot to make the yogurt. (I'm positive I'll get an IP for Christmas) and a bowl, then to Aldi, then Habitat for Humanity where I got some ornaments and another Christmas bowl.
Later in the week the paper says it’s supposed to be in the 90’s! For October! The good part is that it probably means that my pool stays open longer…
Barbie – I don’t want what I posted recently, under “my foods” I get this unalphabetized listing of foods I entered. Under “My meals” (where I would expect it to be) I get the same thing. Only under “my foods” can I add another food. Where is the list? I know that I had a list of things like “apple – fugi” (I’m pretty sure I made that a meal just so it would be in the list), but now I don’t see it. Another thing, under “my foods”, how do you delete a food?
RVRita – so sorry to hear about Chewy.
On potlucks – I usually try to bring something that I can eat then have just a bite of something else, sometimes I don’t even have that much. There have been times at the condo when they’ve had a pot luck, I send something that I wouldn’t eat and then say that I had to do something or go somewhere and not go to the potluck
I’m going to start logging here tomorrow.

I found that list under “my foods”. But I don’t see any way to add to it.
Also, I’m trying to enter my dinner for tomorrow. It keeps telling me that an entry like mine is in the database, but I don’t see it, not in the database, not under “my foods”, nowhere. HELP!!!
