WOMEN AGES 50 + FOR DECEMBER 2019

Yesterday, we held one of our cycling club's feature rides - a 207 kilometre ride with 4,250 metres of climbing (129 miles, 13943.57 feet). I had 4 great volunteers to help me and 14 riders successfully completed the challenge!
But it was a very long day for me ...
-- Got up at 5:30 am and didn't get to bed until midnight.
-- Drove hundreds of kilometres.
-- Figured out how to add contacts to my phone ... and then sent & received a massive pile of texts as the volunteers and I communicated. I'm normally a 1-2 text a day person.
-- Kept one eye on my husband who accompanied me the whole way (I've numbered him among my 4 volunteers). It was a very long day for him too!
We're both tired ... I'm at work today and just dragging ...
Me (wearing lots of layers against the chill) giving last minute instructions to the riders ...
Next time I wear the new red top, I'll have a picture taken.
Yesterday was the first day of summer ... this is our summer weather ...
"Lower Derwent for Monday: Cloudy. High chance of showers, most likely this afternoon. Snow falling above 600 metres. Possible hail during this afternoon and evening. Winds W/NW 25 to 40 km/h turning SW 30 to 50 km/h in the morning then tending W in the evening. Daytime maximum temperatures between 7 and 15."
And a Severe Weather Warning has been issued for tomorrow (and likely Wednesday too) ...
A cold, strong west to southwesterly airstream will flow across Tasmania during Tuesday, with the strongest winds expected during the afternoon.
DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are possible from midday on Tuesday across southern, western and central Tasmania, as well as parts of the east. Winds are expected to ease by early Tuesday evening.
Welcome to a Tasmanian summer!!
That said, I actually don't mind when ("when" ... not "if") it is cool, rainy/snowy, and windy at the beginning of December. That's when I decorate for Christmas and I find it hard to decorate when it is hot and sunny. After 42 years in Canada, it just doesn't seem right to decorate for Christmas when it's warm.
I've asked my husband to find the Christmas decorations today, and perhaps bring them upstairs (unless they are too heavy). Then tomorrow, I'll likely start decorating.
3 artificial Christmas trees, 3 wreaths, and a few other odds and ends around the place.
Last night after we got home, I ripped a Christmas CD I picked up at the tip shop on Saturday - guitar instrumental Christmas music ... nice to listen to when I'm studying.

Weighed myself this morning. I gained 2 lbs over the holiday. I can’t believe that the few times I strayed caused a 2lb gain. So proof positive that if you overeat even decent foods, you will gain.
Vince is continuing to decorate. I told him that last year we decided that the one tree should be moved down because it interfered with the table when it was extended, so we moved the tree. He was telling me that it would take ½ hr. It took about 10 minutes to do.
I’m feeling a bit blue right now. I know Denise is going (as usual) to give us a hassle about coming down here for Christmas. She’s going to say how it’s so hard with the baby. We took a 2 DAY trip to see her grandparents with 3 small children, and she can’t take a one day trip with one small child???? I know, I know, I’m getting myself worked up.
Made a pork roast for later in the week and a meatloaf. Then made some sweetpotato muffins for a gal we play mahjongg with. Then I thought I was making Vince a cake but it was a brownie mix so I made him brownies. Did a load of laundry last night then two more today.
Bugglover – I’m very sorry about your friends

Machka your DH connecting with/thanking those involved in his survival/recovery must be so meaningful. His gratitude, and progress, are wonderful Christmas presents for him to give them. Hope you know how grateful he is to you, his advocate, caregiver, partner, love!
I think the connection is important for both my husband and the people who have helped him along the way. It fills gaps and answers questions for him because he's missing so much memory, and the doctors, nurses, etc. have thanked us for visiting because they rarely see anyone after the accident. They often deal with the early stages and don't hear the outcome.
And thank you for saying that. Yes, he tells me every day how grateful he is.

Feel like on MFP after reading posts of poor people who get attacked their needs to be a sign ...IF you never had kids or been around them in your life please do not despise how moms should raise their kids to if she can fit cooking from scratch in their day with multiple smaller kids! Poor things were only asking simple questions get attacked about everything their questions never get answered. The damn dislike button gets hit a million times on their initial question...Umm it’s a question about them how can it be disliked??? It’s simple questions like
1. What do you do at restaurants to cut calories?
2. I’m a Vegan Mom was wondering if theirs any ——- foods to make ——-
3. Can’t seem to loose the baby weight....
Bam the dogs attack them rough rough rough rough!!! The things they say are none of their damn business ! If she’s a Vegan Mom wanting a vegan recipe for the holidays it’s none of their business if she’s feeding the kids that or not to if she should eat meats !
If they want restaurant advice like MFP does give its not their place to say POOR kids not getting a home cooked meal your letting them run all over you...... trails off mentions doesn’t have kids ...then berates some more!
Or they start off with their a Man or no kids how loosing baby weight should be easy if she breastfed 🤱. Yeah I breastfed nothing came off I actually got fluffier! Plus poor thing asks about baby weight not breast fed versus bottle fed debates.
Some folks have no manners anymore notice it even in stores anymore. Hubby saw a lady boobs hanging out in a vest y bra only (No wasn’t a big vest ) attack a breast feeding mom for feeding her child a little side boob showed from under a blanket. Of course he also later saw a Woman whip it out feed her kid no blanket then put the kid down but boob stayed out ...was uncomfortable wait for his oil change lol 😂. She was too busy to put it up I guess lol or forgot it was on the floor (mom sagging joke boy did mine say after breastfeeding lol). Silly cause no one gets what unsolicited advice is anymore to boundaries.
Makes me glad we found each other on here so we can talk openly y lovingly. Hugs to all big ones! Hubby gets why I don’t have Mom friends anymore other than this thread 🧵!5 -
Pretty much the same as last month ... aside from exercise, this month will include ...
-- work ... I've got several projects I should try to finish or get on top of by the end of the month.
-- university ... I start my next course on Nov 11. It's a spring/summer course and entirely online so I'm curious how it will go. Later in November, I need to enroll in my course Semester 1 courses.
-- cycling club ... I have a lot of work to do in this area!!
-- website ... lots of work to do and start attending Wordpress meetings again.
-- husband ... becoming more involved with our local brain injury association.
-- medical ... attending a whole pile of different physio appointments and other medical appointments. There is not a single week without a medical appointment of some sort.
-- and continuing to organise things at home. I've been working on this for a while now, but especially since I wrote my exam on Tuesday!!
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- exercise every day or just about. Eating ... could be better. Sleeping ... not bad now that I've got my cocoon of silence.
Work -- working on instructions these days, but I see emails starting to come in about other projects. They'll be for next week, I think.
Uni -- I've downloaded the initial information for my new course. Will need to acquire a textbook. And I've enrolled in the remaining courses for my Master's degree.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!!
Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting on Saturday.
Husband -- we're going to a Brain Injury forum next Monday. Plus his BPPV flared up again this week, so we've had that treated. If you are having trouble with dizziness and balance, this is a great site with lots of information: https://vestibular.org/
Medical/Health -- I have a complete physical booked for next Friday, but had to go into a Dr early because of the spider bite. It is starting to fade a little, I think, but the medication makes me a bit nauseated. I have several other things I need to book - probably next most important is dental for my broken tooth.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel.
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Need to start exercising more now that I'm almost recovered from spider bite and medication.
Work -- still working on instructions these days, but I see emails starting to come in about other projects. They'll be for next week, I think.
Uni -- Will be doing a lot of reading this weekend.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!! I made some good progress on the website last night which I was really pleased about! But most urgently: We've got another cycling event on the weekend which we're hosting ... tomorrow! I went shopping at lunch for it.
Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting next Saturday (1 week).
Husband -- went to a Brain Injury forum last Monday which was quite interesting ... projects coming soon.
Medical/Health -- Complete physical today.
BP is a bit high. Will be tracking it over next couple weeks. Had ECG - good. Will have heart ultrasound soon.
Got measles vax. I am in the age group that only had 1 vax but 2 are needed. I may have had measles in 2016, but just in case I didn't, I want the vax!!
Booked appt for shingles vax.
Dentist next week.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel.
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Walking more + lifting some weights. It's sleeveless season shortly and I'd like my arms to have some muscle tone.
Work -- Finishing up instructions, starting to get into projects. I've got 4 projects before the end of December
Uni -- Much reading + need to start first assignment.
Cycling Club -- I'm focusing on this right now. Several things to do!! Website + prep for December 1 event.
My Personal Website -- must look at it one evening this week. I've got a Wordpress meeting next Saturday.
Husband -- always a never-ending stream of medical appointments + some projects with 2 or 3 different organisations.
Medical/Health -- Tracking BP. At home, it's OK. Heart ultrasound on Monday.
Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy.
Dentist on Friday.
Organisation -- first the cycling club stuff ... then I'll have to wade into more organisation stuff, but kind of picking away at it.
Recreation -- exercise, entertainment (symphony, plays), and photography are usually my recreation, but I'm starting to think ahead to time off over Christmas and travel. I'm off for 16 days and we'll go away for a few of them. I've booked peace and quiet!! I hope! Hopefully there will be some beach time too, both at home (we live close to a beach) and away ... and cycling time!! It would be fabulous to be able to cycle and/or run/walk every day during those 16 days!!!
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Trying to fit it all in. So tired.
Work -- And now all the projects begin + a couple extra I hadn't anticipated. Four projects due tomorrow!
Uni -- Much reading + need to start first assignment ASAP.
Cycling Club -- Several things to do!! Most importantly right now, we've got a big event on Dec 1 which I'm organising. My stomach tightens.
My Personal Website -- I have started working on this. I'd post it here, but not sure if I can: machka . net That was a bit of fun.
Husband -- Never-ending stream of medical appointments + projects with 2 or 3 different organisations. **I actually asked for one of them to reschedule!!** I don't usually do that but when they wanted me to take an hour or so out of my day tomorrow, when I've got 4 work projects due ... I just couldn't! It actually felt good to ask them if we could reschedule! Small victory.
Medical/Health -- Had heart ultrasound on Monday. Watching BP.
Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy.
Need to see chiropractor.
Organisation -- Can't do much of this till closer to Christmas.
Recreation -- Not much of this until Christmas.
Feeling really stressed this week.
Pretty much the same as last month ... aside from exercise, this month will include ...
Physical - Exercise, Eating, Sleeping -- Trying to fit it all in. So tired. And yes, I need a new pillow. I sleep on my right side and my right arm is killing me.
Work -- Lots of work projects until Christmas.
Uni -- Much reading + need to complete first assignment ASAP. That's my main focus outside of work this week.
Cycling Club -- I have a few things to do to wrap up our event on Dec 1, and a national committee meeting next week, but then I've got a bit of a break from this till January.
My Personal Website -- I have started working on this. I'd post it here, but not sure if I can: machka . net That was a bit of fun.
Husband -- Never-ending stream of medical appointments + projects with 2 or 3 different organisations.
Medical/Health -- Booked appt for shingles vax, second measles vax, and mole biopsy. Need to see chiropractor about my right arm.
Organisation -- Can't do much of this till closer to Christmas.
Recreation -- Not much of this until Christmas ... unless you count Christmas decorating!
Challenges -- I've joined 3 challenges in the Challenges forum.
If challenges appeal to you, don't forget about MFP's Challenges subforum:

Happy December!! I’ve missed everybody, but I needed a little break from electronics. I did log all my food, but I’ve been very lax about regular exercise. Consequently, no weight loss for about 6 weeks, but I didn’t gain any either. I wore a new outfit for Thanksgiving, and it really felt great. My sister has been relatively sober for the last 3 weeks, mainly because she has been forced to drive the car.
We had a great Thanksgiving! A lovely meal with Hannah’s godparents and family, and a second meal with my mom, sister, her boyfriend and my nephew.
I’m now decorating for Christmas. I finished the foyer today, planning to start on the hearth in our family room tomorrow.

Barbie love your simple “soup for Barbie” solution!
Ditto Kim's, Lisa's, KJ's, Amber's, Katla's gratitudes for this group. Trusted, compassionate friends I can chat with any hour of the day, free of fear of judgement and flames. What a big part of my life you all are!
Viv and SuziQ ((hugs))
Janetr Brava for choosing to enjoy your favorite time of the year and not let other's nastiness become your problem. I'm in awe of your and other's decorating energy!
Allie LOVE that fresh Christmas tree scent.
NYKaren “little steps … lifestyle over a lifetime” thanks for the needed reminder.
Lanette, likewise thanks for the backup reminder... ;}
Debby in VA really glad to hear your Thanksgiving was so nice at last.
Katla Thanks! Really enjoyed Christmasships.org, especially all the Santa/sleigh/reindeer, the whales, the SCUBA diving Santa and chuckled at the COHO HO. Now I'm really looking forward to our Nature's Coastal Holiday with over 2 million lights in Azalea Park.
Heather hooray for outside lights! How you'll love to see them glowing when you return home in the evenings.
Welcome @Phantom1961. Let us know what to call you and your general locale? Yes you CAN do this. Healthy eating choices and activity will both minimize the meds you need (but are making you sick) and will improve your self esteem. We're here for you! (and yes it does stink that men can take pounds off so easily. Machka posted a meme recently of Men on a Diet vs Women on a diet which was funny but oh so painfully true.
Rita “...Learn to be happy now...” The “...run faster...” not so much
Michele, you are still coughing? That has gone on way way too long. Hope the MD has good answer and quick fix. Sending healing prayers. . . but you might have to consider taking it easy for awhile...
Rebecca Love that your grandfather's house is happy now. You have the gift of making new friends, is the new owner now another pen pal of yours?
Terri your story, your wisdom, your art choice.
Ginny in Oh, UTIs stink. Bad ones can mimic dementia. Hope your work week is not as rigorous as you expect.
Welcome @bugglover and ((hugs)) for your grief. Would you let us know what to call you and your general locale?
Machka I cannot imagine bicycling 129 miles, much less uphill in the wind. Wow.
Connie in KY and Cheri and Margaret and Sue in WA, good to see you checking in.
Didn't get outside today but kept AF and out of the cookies. Monday will have 1 glass of champagne with a friend after BB&B then take Shadow in for her final round of shots. Want to ask the vet for feeding recommendations and to trim her nails, especially the dewclaws. Christmas activities are starting to ramp up with something every day but Thursday. I'm alternately excited and intimidated
Gratitudes Day
#18 art: Handel's Messiah#17 Knowledge: learning how Joe's way of processing information is different from mine, how to communicate non-judgementally and effectively.Lighter, lovelies!
#16 My body: well last night I would have been hard pressed to respond positively or gratefully to this challenge. Have been catching glimpses (shudder) in the mirror, in the morning at T'ai Chi and last night at line dancing. Received my Land's End order in the post, and the first shirt I tried on nearly made me cry. Look so fat! Tried on another and it wasn't quite as bad so wore it to line dancing. Will try on the rest later today and return the ones I really really won't wear. SO time for a flip. I AM grateful for my legs, how they are improving with BB&B, and how I can use them for quality time walking with Joe and the pooches. Like Heather said, grateful for my mobility. As for the rest, like Evelyn said, it's time to take better care of my body, starting with being grateful for it just as it is right now.
#15 Season: Summer. Used to be autumn, the colors, the smells. Winter too cold, Spring to drizzly. Summer here on the coast is perfect, only 3 days of 90+ degrees and so long as no wild fires, the air is clear.
#14 sight: my DH's lowered pressure numbers, his glaucoma has stabilized with no immediate need for surgery. Long may he see the ocean from our front room, the dogs playing together at the edge of the woods, the fog through the trees.
#13 abilities: touch typing
#12 texture: Tumble's double coat, long straight strong guard hairs undercoated with soft downy fur. Shadow's silky puppy ears.
#11 holiday: Christmas. The music, the lights, the scent of the Christmas tree, the story, the memories, the taste of egg nog, tom and jerry's, and oh yes... baking, smelling and eating the COOKIES!!!
#10 taste: today its fresh ice water. After too much wine it really tastes good.
#9 place: our property, all 15 vertical acres of it, woods, ferns, creeks, mud, brush, critters, peeks at the ocean and the way it smells when I get out of the car. “Home!”
#8 book: To Build a Land by Sally Watson. Read this children's novel when I was 9. It was about a group of Jewish orphans transported to Israel after WWII. Identifying with one of the characters sparked a life long interest in archeology, Hebrew and ultimatly spurred me to visit the holy land in 1980.
#7 memory: at holidays Papa told stories about his younger days, during Prohibition and the Depression (but never about WWII). I could repeat them almost word for word but enjoyed them every time. That's one thing I miss about not having family left for holiday get togethers.
# 6 nature: the forest's scent and the ocean's clamour
# 5 sound: Joe snoring
# 4 food: Fage Greek Yoghurt
# 3 color: blue skies after a gray rainy foggy couple of days.
# 2 tech: my Win 7 laptop. Dread migrating to something newer/supported.
# 1 smell: clean, bleached whites while transferring from washer to dryer.
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
Word for 2019: "GOOD" good attitude, good food, good times, good choices, good enough, feel good, GOOD! Word for December: get up and go outside EVERY day!

@bugglover So sorry to hear of the trials in your life. It's not surprising that you needed time to get back on an even keel. Just take it one day at a time.
Machka: I thought I was busy until I joined this group. Not surprised that you are tired. You accomplish so much every single day.
Ginny: 😑 UTIs!!! The bane of a woman's life! (One of the many) (((hugs)))
🎄🤶 Gratitude for Christmas 🎅🏻🎄#1, 15 Nov: Scents: loved the smell of the roses I put into my Floral arrangement#19, 2 Dec, Touch: This morning I am so grateful for DH's hand on my shoulder when he woke me with my morning cuppa. He is the wind beneath my wings. In light of the two bereavement last weekend, I am especially conscious of the fact that many of my contemporaries don't have that luxury.
#2, 16 Nov:Technology: Glad that I had my car and didn’t have to stand in the cold waiting for a bus
#3, 17 Nov: Colour: the colour of the beautiful sunset as I walked home in the late afternoon
#4, 18 Nov: Food: Fresh produce form my own garden ..... or ....... Chocolate! 🍫 My ultimate comfort food.
#5, 19 Nov: Sound: I'm grateful for the sound of DH moving about downstairs. It's very comforting.
#6, 20 Nov: In Nature: I love the view of the night sky from my bedroom window on clear nights.
#7, 21 Nov: Memory: This triggered a veritable avalanche of memories of my life, the happy moments crowding out the less pleasant ones. So... the memory I am most grateful for is my own selective memory, which chooses to focus on the positives, and reframe the negatives as learning experiences.
#8, 22 Nov: Book: "Unlimited Power" by Tony Robbins. This book was a revelation to me and showed me that I was in charge of my life. It was pretty scary at first to accept responsibility for all my actions and decisions. It was no longer possible for me to blame others or make excuses. But it was such a positive turning point in my life. I revisit it often.
#9, 23 Nov - Place: the place I am most grateful for is the quiet place in my head where I go when I meditate.
#10, 24 Nov - Taste: Today grandson had made an experimental mulled wine drizzle cake. I was grateful that it tasted so good, (not all of his experiments turn out so well 😂) Fortunately, I always hold calories for my Sunday visit, so was able to fully enjoy his delightful concoction (NB: lemon drizzle cake is one of my favourites)
#11, 25 Nov - Holiday: I love my annual week's family holiday on the West coast of Ireland with our DED and the grands. This year was our 24th year of these holidays. We started them with my DMiL when our granddaughter was just 8 months old. I am grateful that all 3 grands still want to come on these holidays with us.
#12, 25 Nov, Texture: I love the feel of fresh soft fluffy towels after my shower.
#13, 26 Nov, Abilities: I treasure my ability to be adaptable, and look for the positive in situations.
#14, 27 Nov, Sight: I appreciate the sight of my husband bringing my tea in bed each morning. It means I can take my time waking up.
#15, 28 Nov, Season: All the season's have their good points' but the spring is my favourite because it heralds the end of winter and the lengthening of daylight hours.
#16, 29 Nov: I'm grateful that bones are strong. I have been very fortunate in that I have never had a broken bone. Long may that continue.
#17, 30 Nov, Knowledge: I'm grateful the self-knowledge I have gained on this health and fitness journey. Now all I have to do is apply it! 😂
#18, 1 Dec, Piece of art: Not sure why but found this one difficult. Settled on this. It a fire screen that my Nana embroidered. It sat in front of the fire in her sitting room. I rescued it when my aunt was about to throw it away after redecorating her apartment after my uncle had been taken into residential care with Alzheimer's. It means more to me than all the fancy paintings in the world.
Weather is relatively milder for a few days at least. (Still Above freezing) and dryer this morning. I'm out most of the day. Creative Writing this morning and Monday Painters this afternoon.
Will look out the Christmas decorations later this week. In the meantime .....

Day 18 - December 2, 2019
I am grateful for all art. Honestly, this is a tough one for me as I appreciate all mediums but cannot say I have a favorite that speaks to me. My favorite artist would probably be Ansel Adams. His black and white photography always moves me.3 -
As promised - the kid's cheater quilts that I got finished last night - for those who don't quilt, cheater quilts are created from large panels that you then layer with batting and backing, and then quilt. These are done with hand-guided, free-motion quilting on a home machine. This one is for my granddaughter Haley, as she loves being a princess. At the very bottom, you'll see a close-up of the free-motion quilting on her quilt, with the lighting changed a bit so the stitching shows.
This one is for my new grandson, Levi, due in January. The John Deere tractor motif is more for his mom and dad than for the new little guy.
This one is for my nine-year-old grandson, Tyler, who loves the game of Minecraft. The top margin of the quilt is just as long as the bottom margin, to go over his bed and pillows, but I'm too short to hold it up and still see the design that way!

On with my Monday,

lisa love the quilts, fantastic gifts for the grandkids
Our ice/snow storm means I’m home today (teachers love snow days more than students methinks). So on the to do list, walk extra in the treadmill and make soup with my turkey broth.
Stay safe and cozy everyone.

Hello All,
I’m new and happy to find this group! So fun to see ladies from all over in this thread.
I’m halfway to my goal and using the IF approach as recommended by my physician. I’m very happy with it as it has all but eliminated my sort of obsession with every bite/calorie I could put in my mouth. I’ll tell ya dieting makes me a little nutty. Anyway, this time around has been less stressful and for that I’m truly grateful.
December is a hard month for me. My mom killed herself this time of year when I was a kid and it’s not something you ever completely get over. I’ve tried to make the holidays a joyful time for me family but I can’t help but get blue sometimes and then try to sooth myself with food. Most of my life I’ve used food for comfort. I’m trying to get out of that unhealthy cycle.
On the upside, now have three fabulous children and a full, busy life. I’m a lucky lady.
Good luck everyone with your goals!

BARBIE thanks for the new thread
GINNY I was advised by my consultant to take D-Mannose and a prebiotic drink daily to help prevent UTIs. Previously I was taking a low dose antibiotic daily. Heather also started taking this.
Welcome newbies you'll find all the help and encouragement you need on this thread

Lisa gorgeous!
Staying home today because of icy roads. For me it is the parking lot and sidewalks too. I have a long walk to get to the Y where painting class is held.3 -
For all bookworms out there
A three part TV series called "Sleuths, Spies and Sorcerers, Andrew Marr's Paperback Heroes" Now on BBC IPlayer. I haven't watched yet but looks interesting

Lisa, Beautiful quilts.
Betsy in NW WA1 -
It's Monday, ladies!
Carol - I've eaten salad/dinner for breakfast a few times, why not? Good way to clean out the fridge sometimes too.
Sue in WA - sounds like you are making great progress on the rental house and got a lot done with your helpers there. Photos please?
Betsy - when we watch Alaskan adventure shows, I often think of you. I am crossing fingers, toes, eyes that this lawsuit gets settled once and for all.
Last week I found frozen Turkey legs at Safeway! After looking all over the past few years. They said they actually carry them all the time, they have a customer that buys a huge amount every couple weeks. Turkey soup sounds great and I'm not sure I've ever had parsnips but will grab one to throw in it. Thanks Barbie for the idea.
Lisa - great job on the quilts, they all will be thrilled!
Michele - I am glad you are going to see a doctor about your cough and agree, it's been hanging on way too long. How much longer does Jess have before she finishes school?
Heather - what a neat photo of your son and Bea at the Christmas tree. Have a good visit with older son!
Yesterday I decided to stick my nose in a book and pulled "Following Atticus" by Tom Ryan off the shelf. I think several of you have read it, but for those who haven't, it's about an out-of- shape fellow who decides to get a mini Schnauzer pup and they proceed to climb 48 peaks over 4000 ft high in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Several times.
I popped onto his Facebook page, and since writing that book (and a sequel "Will's Red Coat") he's had many health problems including stroke and kidney failure. He's now on a very strict vegan diet and his health is good. And he has 2 new dogs, not schnauzers this time - they are deceased. Hope he's working on another book. I love his writing style.
This morning Rosie, our youngest mini schnauzer, got her Bravecto tablet with her breakfast. 3 month flea killer. Am monitoring her to make sure she doesn't upchuck anything. She's got an iron gut so will likely be fine.
NYKaren - I watched Brittany Runs a Marathon. I had to grab a Kleenex at the end! Interesting to see her life and friends in New York and the challenges she faced on many levels.
Welcome new ladies! Someone mentioned not getting enough protein.... I get a high protein cereal from The Cereal School, 16 gm of protein and 100 calories in each packet, less than 1 carb. Delightfully crunchy and I eat them for snacks. Looks like a cyber Monday sale, 15% off. I love the peanut butter and cinnamon bun flavors but they are all good. TheCerealSchool.com
Have a great week!

Michele, My favorite Thanksgiving food is stuffing which has a ton of sodium. I eat more of that than any other food and my weight always goes up about three pounds from fluid retention. Then I have a night where I wake up to pee every hour and my weight goes back to normal.
Lisa, Those quilts are beautiful and will be loved by the recipients.
Amber, I stay off other threads because of all the snarky judgmental responders. I love this thread because we are so respectful of each other.
Julie from Texas, Welcome. I like the feel of gratitude mixed in with your sharing. Gratitude is a tool that has brought me through many tough times.
NY Karen, You are correct. As a teacher, I loved snow days. As a retired person, I love them even more.
Lanette, Bessie takes Bravecto but Sasha and Bernie get Revolution. Fleas are not welcome in our lives.
Barbie from NW WA3 -
Lisa - The grandkids will be thrilled to get those quilts!
Been out for my run. The sun was shining brightly and the sea was blue. Someone was swimming in it! As the temperature was near freezing this morning they must be crazy. It was gorgeous out though. I had to undo my fleece jacket and take off my gloves.
I'm deaf in one ear with wax at the moment (it happens from time to time) so I'm a bit cranky. Hate it. I'm softening it up with oil, and then I will syringe it.
Ginny - Yes, after Kate UK mentioned it, I have been taking D-Mannose. It is not cheap, but I haven't had a full blown attack since. If I feel one coming on I take a higher dose. Definitely worth the expense.
DH has decided to cook tonight because I was so cranky. He's just been out to shop for it. I'm going to be AF today.
His back is a bit better and he said he has given himself a good talking to.
His younger daughter has found an apartment she likes and may make an offer. If it comes off, and hers is sold, he will be parting with her share of the initial inheritance.
He has come back and is going to make a beef stew.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4
