Less Alcohol - DECEMBER 2019 - One Day at a Time

Here's to the stress of the holidays. Yesterday, I had 1.5 glasses of white wine after arguing with my entire household while putting up decorations. Sigh. Anyone else have a husband who decides at the moment kids are getting nutty about putting ornaments on the tree, he decides to sweep the entire (non-finished) basement? Pretty much sums up my life lol. I love them, just can't keep anyone focused for more than about three minutes. Herding cats I tell you. Herding. Cats. And I am a dog person.
My daughter is in the professional Nutcracker performance for the second year and it takes up soooo much time. It is worth seeing her do what she loves, but it rushes everything else about the season. We manage fairly well, but it truly makes the "wine at the end of the day" a little harder to resist. Best wishes to all of you as we deal with the holiday craziness while trying to lose/manage weight and keep the alcohol "less."

Just found this challenge and would like to join :-) I've been doing great only drinking on the weekends (Fri/Sat) but it is still impeding my weight loss and still find that I struggle with moderation. In the past - in some depression spells, I had times where it was everyday, and feel I'm at a huge improvement now to be able to limit it to the weekend. I really appreciate all of the resources posted and am hopeful that I will continue to improve my self discipline. I like the idea of just 'less' as I do weird self sabotage as soon as I try to 'take something off the table' permanently.6

Oh gee that sounded like a rough day yesterday for you. Does not help that between Thanksgiving and Christmas we lost an entire week to regroup and plow into the next holiday. Plus it gets dark earlier and it is chilly outside. Nice to know we are all experiencing a little bit of holiday crazy.5 -
Welcome @HamptonsGuy and @BeginAgain1229. Each of us has our own goals, which could be cutting back during the week, decreasing the number of drinks consumed in one day, taking a little break and trying AF for a given time. Lots of choices to choose from.5

They do have alcohol free versions of most alcoholic beverages. Used to serve them as an alternative. I’m allergic to alcohol y wine but had my Licensing to make y serve it. One brand was yuck they said but rest they said was excellent. Some are fewer calories also.
Also is alcohol free wines y wine coolers for those who are thinking yuck beer 🍺 . We sold out of those faster than we could stock them!2 -
I’m 1-1 this Dec so far but just a glass of wine yesterday. I was sitting here trying to think of a good goal and I think given the parties etc. 18 out of 31 is what I’m going to aim for3

I haven’t found any NA wine that tastes remotely good - but actually found some very low calorie NA beers that are quite good .4 -

My goal is 16-20 AF days for the month.
I didn't get there in October, ended up with 10 or 11AF days - but lost weight.
November tally 19AF days out of 30 days. Pleased with that, but didn't lose any weight. go figure!
New month : - )
December 01 - 3 drinks
Running Tally: 0 AF days out of 1 day
Happy one year anniversary on here @dawnbgethealthy. You have done so well, with only a few bumps to hurdle. You know there is a stress hormone that keeps you from losing weight? Just another fun fact we have to try to deal with in life. 😬
Thanks @MissMay : - )
Yes, no ice skating, and skating is a big stress relief for me as well as a huge calorie burn that I missed for November. I may have worn out my knees from lifelong skating, but I will get back to it...gently : - )1 -

@Womona @MissMay @whitpauly thank you ladies! I appreciate your kindness, your well wishes.
@dawnbgethealthy thank you for your response. Here's the jist of it:
I have a spot close to my chest wall, deep enough where I or my doctor could not feel it with a self examination. Because of the location, I asked to speak with the radiologist. I was surprised to see this young, maybe 30 year old, man come out. I asked him my questions (I thought of even more after I left; I hate when this happens). He answered that it's "probably benign." Of course the word "probably" terrifies me but he assured me that if he thought a biopsy would need to be done today, I wouldn't even be leaving. He wants to see me back in 6 months. I have periodic inflammation of that breast. But...my mind increases the pain (I believe). It's all real, very real. The mammogram proved that but anxiety makes everything worse... I had been crying but he was looking at me when he told me that his mother died of breast cancer. I got it. I understand why he chose examining mammograms as a profession. Before I spoke to him, the mammogram technician was explaining some of the characteristics of what they look for to identify the different types of cancer, so I guess that's somewhat reassuring. I'm okay but I'm not okay...I go back on May 29th.
I'm 2 days no alcohol. I haven't had an urge, not yet.
Nice job, ladies. Just being accountable helps because even if the results aren't always perfect, they're usually better than what we (I) would do alone.
Goodnight ladies and love to you all...7 -
@LoveyChar sounds like you're in good hands at least 💗 6:58 in Vegas another 24 for me,I used to be such a morning person but now even though I don't drink I still feel hungover 😂 what is that? Maybe my sleep aid but without it I'm up and down all night annoying! Have a great day all!4

Moi ?? I'm very happy to have a shorter time between holidays this year. Less time for my yearly "Make this season just go away" mood. Sure doesn't help that the Christmas decor goes up at the beginning of October.
Used to just love the festivities, hymns & carols, decorations, spending time choosing & wrapping just the right gifts, baking, tree trimming, all of that. It was a joy to see others happy.
That began to change about 30 years ago when I started to notice that the whole holiday seemed to be about buying and doing things for people you didn't much care about and who didn't care for you or your gifts and efforts. Maybe it was my 2nd husbands family [disfunction much ??] since I never felt that way before I married into that tribe. Just an example...MIL#2 always complained that her lace tablecloths had holes and stains, every time we had a family dinner. I got her several very nice [quite expensive ] lace tablecloths for Christmas. The next family dinner, she complained that her lace tablecloths had holes and stains. The tablecloths were in the linen drawer, next to the set of bath towels I gave her the year before. Believe me, the only gifts she got from me after that were plants. Put THEM in a drawer !!
About 20 years ago I put up a Christmas tree in my new home, brought out the decorations, but instead pushed open the sliding glass door and shoved the tree out into the yard. Bought no one any gifts and never looked back. Now when I see something that a friend or relative would like, all year round, I give it then.
What does this have to do with drinking ?? The music, the decorations, the "warm fuzzies" from folks who couldn't care less the rest of the year...all of this depresses and irritates the "kitten" out of me. And I want a drink. And more drinks.
My plan to begin mindful moderation unfortunately coincided with the start of my yearly bad mood.
My plan to begin mindful moderation fortunately coincided with the continued closure for renovations of my local wine shop.
Maybe New Years 2020 ?? Made it over 4 months AF, might as well wait and make it 5 months.5 -
And while I'm sitting by the woodstove watching the snow fall...welcome to the new posters and lurkers...and hugs to those who are struggling with health and moderation.
And thanks to @MissMay for continuing this discussion. I might still be counting corks if not for all of you.5 -

I so get all you wrote above. Your 2nd MIL did not deserve you in her life. That was rotten of her to do/say. The thing I hate most is the recieving of gifts. Does that sound stupid? I have more than enough things and stuff. And as I mentioned early this Fall I started to hoe out my garage storage. By hoe, I mean throw out, give away or donate. Did not want to take the time to sell the stuff. Just wanted it out of my life. Whether it be Christmas or not, just give me a hug, or invite me over for a home cooked meal. Hugs are the most lovely of gifts (except if your @WinoGelato, don't hug her🤣)
I was giggling a little at the vision of you pushing the tree out the sliding door.
Don't let the pressure get to you this year....we are right here to turn to.
