@Womona @MissMay @whitpauly thank you ladies! I appreciate your kindness, your well wishes.
@dawnbgethealthy thank you for your response. Here's the jist of it:
I have a spot close to my chest wall, deep enough where I or my doctor could not feel it with a self examination. Because of the location, I asked to speak with the radiologist. I was surprised to see this young, maybe 30 year old, man come out. I asked him my questions (I thought of even more after I left; I hate when this happens). He answered that it's "probably benign." Of course the word "probably" terrifies me but he assured me that if he thought a biopsy would need to be done today, I wouldn't even be leaving. He wants to see me back in 6 months. I have periodic inflammation of that breast. But...my mind increases the pain (I believe). It's all real, very real. The mammogram proved that but anxiety makes everything worse... I had been crying but he was looking at me when he told me that his mother died of breast cancer. I got it. I understand why he chose examining mammograms as a profession. Before I spoke to him, the mammogram technician was explaining some of the characteristics of what they look for to identify the different types of cancer, so I guess that's somewhat reassuring. I'm okay but I'm not okay...I go back on May 29th.
I'm 2 days no alcohol. I haven't had an urge, not yet.
Nice job, ladies. Just being accountable helps because even if the results aren't always perfect, they're usually better than what we (I) would do alone.
Goodnight ladies and love to you all...7 -
@LoveyChar sounds like you're in good hands at least 💗 6:58 in Vegas another 24 for me,I used to be such a morning person but now even though I don't drink I still feel hungover 😂 what is that? Maybe my sleep aid but without it I'm up and down all night annoying! Have a great day all!4

Moi ?? I'm very happy to have a shorter time between holidays this year. Less time for my yearly "Make this season just go away" mood. Sure doesn't help that the Christmas decor goes up at the beginning of October.
Used to just love the festivities, hymns & carols, decorations, spending time choosing & wrapping just the right gifts, baking, tree trimming, all of that. It was a joy to see others happy.
That began to change about 30 years ago when I started to notice that the whole holiday seemed to be about buying and doing things for people you didn't much care about and who didn't care for you or your gifts and efforts. Maybe it was my 2nd husbands family [disfunction much ??] since I never felt that way before I married into that tribe. Just an example...MIL#2 always complained that her lace tablecloths had holes and stains, every time we had a family dinner. I got her several very nice [quite expensive ] lace tablecloths for Christmas. The next family dinner, she complained that her lace tablecloths had holes and stains. The tablecloths were in the linen drawer, next to the set of bath towels I gave her the year before. Believe me, the only gifts she got from me after that were plants. Put THEM in a drawer !!
About 20 years ago I put up a Christmas tree in my new home, brought out the decorations, but instead pushed open the sliding glass door and shoved the tree out into the yard. Bought no one any gifts and never looked back. Now when I see something that a friend or relative would like, all year round, I give it then.
What does this have to do with drinking ?? The music, the decorations, the "warm fuzzies" from folks who couldn't care less the rest of the year...all of this depresses and irritates the "kitten" out of me. And I want a drink. And more drinks.
My plan to begin mindful moderation unfortunately coincided with the start of my yearly bad mood.
My plan to begin mindful moderation fortunately coincided with the continued closure for renovations of my local wine shop.
Maybe New Years 2020 ?? Made it over 4 months AF, might as well wait and make it 5 months.5 -
And while I'm sitting by the woodstove watching the snow fall...welcome to the new posters and lurkers...and hugs to those who are struggling with health and moderation.
And thanks to @MissMay for continuing this discussion. I might still be counting corks if not for all of you.5 -

I so get all you wrote above. Your 2nd MIL did not deserve you in her life. That was rotten of her to do/say. The thing I hate most is the recieving of gifts. Does that sound stupid? I have more than enough things and stuff. And as I mentioned early this Fall I started to hoe out my garage storage. By hoe, I mean throw out, give away or donate. Did not want to take the time to sell the stuff. Just wanted it out of my life. Whether it be Christmas or not, just give me a hug, or invite me over for a home cooked meal. Hugs are the most lovely of gifts (except if your @WinoGelato, don't hug her🤣)
I was giggling a little at the vision of you pushing the tree out the sliding door.
Don't let the pressure get to you this year....we are right here to turn to.

One of the ways to cut down on a habit is to make engaging in it harder. So the question to ask is how quickly can you have a drink in your hand? Is everything handy? Everything chilled? If so, try to think of ways to put additional steps in your path. Each step you must take that is inconvenient is a step that gives you another chance to change your mind. The easier it is the more likely you can do it without even thinking. It was once so easy for me on a few occasions I made myself another drink not realizing I had already made one.
You can layer in some rules like only allowing yourself to drink from one specific glass that you store in a very inconvenient place.
These days unless I go to the store it would take me at least 30 minutes to pour myself a drink the way I want it. If I go to the store it would be at least 20 minutes.

I am a teacher and my end of summer drinking habit turned into a fall drinking habit. I have anxiety around sleep so it was helping me sleep without sleep aids. I really want to cut down because I was becoming dependent on it to sleep and be happy in the evening.
I was really sick two weeks ago and had to take antibiotics. It sucked but was a forced cold turkey and wake up call.
I would like to limit myself to two drinks, one night per weekend.
I would like to allow myself two drinks per night from Dec. 24 to Dec. 27.10 -

@LoveyChar I really like that the young doctor seems so well versed. I believe that if he felt that a biopsy was needed that he would have done one.
I doubt that you can put it out of your mind though.
Good for you for abstaining from alcohol, looking at life with a clear brain and clear eyes.
Big hugs2 -
Awww @MissMay I don’t mind hugs I just miss when we had “awesome” as a reaction. I would far rather have awesome posts as huggable posts! 😜
Happy December everyone. November was insane for me on the work front. Many, many long days sometimes working on European and US times consecutively due to a project go live. The stress was high but I managed to pull off 12 AF days out of 30 and that included a birthday weekend and Thanksgiving.
So far I’m 2/3 days AF in December. This is going to be tough to pull out double digits, besides holiday festivities I have a weekend trip to Miami with my husband and then straight on to the UK for a work trip. Will keep trying for mindful moderation but we’ll see.
Good luck to all those working on less in this month of excess!7 -

I knew that would pull you out of the woodwork. LOL. HUGS-HUGS-HUGS! 🤗
Whoa you are one busy girl. Busy is good, keeps your mind from wandering to low places. Great to hear from you and to see things are going well down all avenues.3 -

Welcome to our group @stephie_nyc. Your goals sound strong to have LESS alcohol in your life. If you have not seen page one..check it out. We have a helpful and informative introduction with tons of pointers at the beginning of the thread.3 -
@NovusDies those are very true facts. Out of sight , out of mind thinking. In the past I would want to continue to drink a bottle just because I knew it was cracked open and a step away from the glasses cabinet. Like keeping ammunition in a different place than you keep your fire arms.6

@JRsLateInLifeMom we will need you to be our bartender if we ever have a "Less Alcohol Thread" reunion. Very good list. Thank you.6 -

Yeah, I definitely think the best thing is to keep it out of the house if you can. It’s there is a bottle under 20$ of wine it’s a real challenge to not drink it. (I do have some expensive wines stored that don’t tempt me). I find I have so much more motivation when it’s not staring me in the face and I have some good alternatives on the ready!6 -
Great job to everyone checking in!

Running Tally: 2 AF day out of 4 days so far.7 -
3AF days out of 4 for me.7

Had a dinner last night, so I ordered a glass of wine. Like clockwork I was up at 2:00 AM wide awake. That’s on one drink! Ugh. In the past I would have ordered two glasses so one to nurse through cocktail hour and dinner is a big accomplishment for me. So far 4 out of 5 days AF (will not drink tonight).
Eating cheesecake for dessert didn’t help. My poor pancreas trying to mitigate all that sugar!7 -
Hi everyone! Due to medicinal reasons, I have to cut back on my adult beverages. Little back story, I was diagnosed with RA 14 years ago, got that under control with oral medications and infusions. All was well, cut to January 2019 and found that now, after 14 years, I have vasculitis along with RA. Also found that when I do have any alcohol, it gets much worse very fast.
On a positive note, the vasculitis forced my off of my infusions and now I am only taking one med for the RA/vasculitis, but still have to limit alcohol intake. I had 2 drinks on Thanksgiving and 2 Black Friday, and probably won't have anything until Christmas.
Good luck to everyone and have a great holiday season.4
