I'm in a few days late but just saw this today. Last month I decided to stay off the scale for 2 weeks, count and log macros and calories, and try to stay within a range that should have resulted in weight loss. However, after a few outings and Thanksgiving meals I ended up being 2 lbs higher than when I started. UGH!
My goals are:
1. weigh in only 1 time a week.
2. log calories and macros every day from here on out through December
3. monitor calories burned using Fitbit and compare CI/CO
4. Work out every day (even if it's only for 5 minutes)
Start weight (2010) 249
December start weight: 227
December goal weight: 222
Ultimate Goal weight: 165
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and hope I can be supportive and learn from others here.

I found you! I love these threads you are all so encouraging and I need the accountability.

Long story short, Im here. And i have a long journey ahead.
SW - 283 (as of yesterday)
Ive joined this thread as it seems to be quite motivational for everyone.
My goal is simply to not gain weight over christmas. Should be easy but christmas would usually be my excuse to indulge (even more than i normally do). Not this time. I will calorie count every day. Every meal. Every snack. This should help me in my goal. As long as im at a deficit each day, it doesnt matter what ive eaten or if ive exercised. Just. Count. Calories. Bring on this month.

Hi everyone, I was happy to have a loss this past week, given all of the pie and rich food. But also a little disappointed in myself, looking back at my lack of progress on my non-scale goals. The accountability of this weekly check-in/look back is so key for me! I need to get serious these next couple of weeks!!6 -

I'm right there with you! My starting weight (just last week) was right about 10 pounds more than you. Actually managed to lose 6 pounds over Thanksgiving week. It can be done if you're mindful. Don't deprive yourself, just don't overindulge.
We are strong and we can do this. And we are stronger together!5 -
I'm in! Stepped on the scale today to see what vacation plus two thanksgivings did to my progress, and I need to get back on track!

Hi everyone, I've been so busy running around with work and family life that I haven't been exercising much or making the best food choices (restaurants). The scale is up a little bit but I am going to have a good few days before I weigh in on Friday- there is still time. Today is the first day in quite a few that I am back to a regular routine. I plan to celebrate by exercising! I will get a jog in and some strength training. I've also got all my food planned out, which helps, and I'm having lots of fruits and veggies today.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts, especially the ones about self-care from the previous page. Seems like many of us are in a similar place after Thanksgiving festivities. Self care for me is a lot about being gentle to myself when I slip up on my health goals. Berating myself doesn't help, and I need to remember that life is short and enjoying friends and family is important this time of year, even if it means I have a slice of cheesecake here, and a glass of wine there, in the process. Moderation can be accomplished, even during the holidays.
We can do this! Have a great day everyone.9 -
@shorepine being out of my regular routine is awful for my diet/exercise routine too. I had one week off for Thanksgiving and went completely off the wagon lol glad you have your normal routine back!
@aliciap0116 I think NSGs are so important to keep in mind. We get stuck on the scale number so often. I'm sure you'll rock those goals this week!
@Christine4695 It is possible! Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed during the holidays but with a plan of action we can make it through. I like what you said about not depriving yourself. I feel when losing weight we focus on the things we are losing, like being able to eat what we want, but that should not be the focus. Instead we should look at what we are gaining but making healthier choices.
I went to the gym yesterday as planned Thats 3 days in a row of at least 30-min exercise! Last month I had such a hard time finding time to exercise but now I am making time because it is a priority. I did well with logging my calories and staying under. Its raining today (it never rains in SoCal) so I am going to go to the gym again. Hoping better weather tomorrow so I can get my next hike in. Hope everyone has a great day10 -
I've already stress-eaten a cupcake and some lindors and now I've reminded myself that chocolate eases the pain from anxiety and I just want to eat more and it's like. Why is chocolate actually crack for me sometimes?
I'm so scared.
I'm so afraid I've let everyone down.
I don't want to lose my job.
I know it's probably not THAT bad but god, I'm just so messed up right now. My stomach hurts.14 -
@terytha we have all been there! I agree in the moment it seems like the most reasonable thing to do. And it is scary to see/feel yourself slip. But log it, laugh about it, and move forward. One binge doesn't end months of progress so long as you don't let it pull you in. And it is all about taking care of you, not anyone else.4
-
@sharpdust, awesome turn around on the exercise!! It must feel amazing to make that goal come true!
And welcome everyone new!! This is a great place to be even if your goal for December is simply to maintain during this month of sweets and indulgences. Feel free to add me.3 -
@terytha I love chocolate too and I've always marveled at those people who can just eat one small square or whatever and not feel that they want to eat a pound more. Even so, I can't see myself never eating chocolate either. It's just so good. I'm sorry you are having a rough time. What's going on? Can you think of another coping strategy?

@RavenStCloud I just watched the trailer for Brittney Runs a Marathon, and now it's on my list! I actually was sitting around my office procrastinating about going out for my jog but just based on that movie I am going to go do it. I think I'll watch the whole thing for some real inspiration! Thanks.5

@Terytha Sorry you're having a stressful day. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. In the meantime try some of the things mentioned a few posts back to help with calming you. I totally understand wanting the chocolate. Most days I have a couple of pieces to satisfy my sweet tooth. I have to limit what types of candies are in the house. I can not pig out on my current Belgian chocolates but give me a jar of sea salt caramels from Costco and I could eat the whole thing. Is there a certain kind you can eat a little of without going full out binge?
@RavenStCloud Thank you for recommending the Brittney movie. I just finished watching and really enjoyed it. Great inspiration and so much to relate with.
Momma just called is coming for some chili I made so will try to catch back up later.
Keep moving forward8 -
Back in - so far, today better than yesterday.6

Good morning guys!
I wanted to check in today after reading so many posts! This thread is so active and I love it! Problem is I don't have a computer at home and it is really, really hard to reply to threads on my phone, so I only can reply at work and I have limited time here.
Just going to talk a little about some of the posts I have seen...may not tag who posted it, but I wanted to express some of my experiences in regard to some of the struggles and successes I have read!
@Terytha I am so sorry you are feeling this way. I can tell you I had a similar experience yesterday. There is bowl after bowl of candy and chocolate where I work. They normally have it right where I walk in and most of the time I can walk right by it, but for some reason yesterday they put it by my desk..really? Ugh. Anyway, I caved and had one little mini charms lollipop...which commenced into having 8 more! Now granted they are only 60 per 3...180 calories, but the sugar is through the roof. I know why I grabbed it...I was stress/boredom eating. Things are slow at work, which in my business is stressful...and I am bored because it is slow! What I realized is, that sugar kick made my cravings increase and all I wanted to do was eat...I was even eyeing the Dominoes pizza left over in the break room and I hate Dominoes! Thankfully, I have healthy snacks at my desk. Could you do that? Pre-make some healthy snacks to reach for when you are stressed? I ate every one of them lol but it was still better than eating a bunch of chocolate, pizza and whatever my stressed bored self could get her hands on. Either way, I learned from it...recognizing what happened...and maybe if I can remember that the next time I reach for the chocolate, charms lollipops I will remember that I have healthy snacks and it will satisfy what's going on in a healthy way as opposed to spiking my cravings. Girl, I think I saw you said you have lost 60 pounds...be proud about that...you can do this, one day at a time...if you have a bad day or even more...it's a marathon not a sprint!.
@bluffgirl67 Thank you for always checking in with me and others! Giving your encouraging words! I see your commitment to your plan and you are doing so great! It motivates me to do better!
@aliciap0116 Same for you…your posts are always so encouraging! Don’t be tough on yourself! You are doing so great. The NSGs are a work in progress. I know trying to reach those protein goals and stay within calories goals are difficult! The fact that you have set the goals and are trying to achieve them is the first step…and the hardest one…so just keep on trying and you will get there!
@shorepine I can so relate…my 10 day Thanksgiving break was all over the place! It has been very difficult to get back on track! But I am enjoying being back in a routine
@mmdeveau your article was a great read, thank you! I am not a bath and candles kinda self care person anyway! But the article did also resonate with me…I want to be unexceptional lol
@lilann1967 your New Year’s vacay sounds amazing! Enjoy! I want a soda stream so bad
@sharpdust you’re awesome, thank you! Good luck on reaching your hiking goal this month! I know you can do it!
@ravenstcloud Hope you can get back into routine soon, but like everyone says, it’s understandable until you do! Make the best choices you can and give yourself some slack. I have wanted to watch that movie you mentioned for a while and I plan to fit it in this weekend!
@speyerj thank you always for such encouraging posts! I like the idea of attacking one goal at a time…I have heard this before and I try to remember that when my mind wanders and wants to do all now!
@torihudson I need to take measurements too! I prep meals every Sunday and it really helps to have lunch every day. The second I have to eat out it all goes to hell and handbasket lol
@stefsc1 6lbs wow! That is a great loss to have with a holiday in the mix. I wish you luck in reaching your 100lb loss this year, what an awesome accomplishment! It lets me see that there is light at the end of the tunnel for me to do that too one day!
I am doing good about getting back on track…had a little slip up yesterday but still below my calorie count…getting back into my routine and it feels good!
Well that is all I have time for today! I am sorry of I missed anyone! Welcome to all the new people on the thread!

So my doctor is monitoring my weight loss. My goal is minor. I’m trying to do the 1 lb a week thing making my goal 4 lb by Jan 3rd. That’s completely doable. I’m not disciplined though. Man I’m already tired of following a diet!! Anyone else feel this way? Want to commiserate?7
-
@Aerohead21 feel free to friend me:) I understand what you are feeling about the diet thing. I changed my thinking this time around and I am not on a diet! I am making a healthy lifestyle change. If you have a goal of 1 lb a week, it should give you enough calories to enjoy and not deprive right? Maybe if you look at it this way, you won't feel like it's a chore or that you have to be "disciplined" as much as wanting to live and eat healthier?

I totally feel you!!! This isn't my first time losing weight, but I'm starting all over again as if it's my first. I struggle with discipline as well. I had lost almost 10 lbs last month, but it was from being sick. I am normally lucky to lose 0.5 to 1 lb a week. My body gets really comfortable within a certain range and now that I'm not sick anymore, the weight is struggling to fall off again. Ugh.2
