Women 200lb+, Let's Double Down This December!!!

Hey everyone! I'm a few days late with my weekly weigh in post- it was supposed to be Friday but I was traveling for work, and then had a super hectic weekend. This time of year is so crazy! I've also been feeling a little down, the short days combined with holiday stress. I don't want the holidays to be stressful, I actually used to love this time of year, so I'm a little bummed that they have become stressful for me.
My weight has come down a bit and overall I'm pretty happy, I even saw a lower weight at one point last week (203.9 but it quickly disappeared). Unfortunately, it's not likely to be repeated this week since I've not been making good choices. Christmas cookies and fudge have begun to abound in my life and I eventually give in. Sigh.

December goal weight: 203
Other December goals:
-Continue to exercise 5 days a week, with at least 3 workouts strength training (Yup, I have no problem achieving my exercise goals)
-Log my food daily (No- have had 2 days last week where I didn't log)
-Spend time outdoors whenever I can, despite the short days I will get outside in some capacity 5 days a week! (Last week could have been better for this).
-Ride my horse 8 times (I rode my horse one day last week. So, I'm at 1/8. Not looking good).6 -

a bit of a stall this month, but I'm using it to adjust to my current weight (down 53 lbs!), and enjoy the holidays. I'm totally in the same boat as you, @Terytha. my current weight/body size is what my mental image of myself has been for years, even though I haven't weighed this much in at least a decade. so it's definitely weird. and with another 50 to go, I'm wondering what the mental adjustment will look like. brains sure are silly.
I ran into a friend I haven't seen for years at an event this weekend. he said he tried to get my attention a few times (before just poking my arm), but initially wasn't sure it was me because I looked so different (and was being super oblivious). that was a nice bit of validation for the last 6 months of work.

@gelatinouscube
I found a gym that does online dance fitness classes that I really like (similar to zumba). I pay $11/month for the basic membership which gets me access to 3 new classes/week, plus I can see the previous 8 classes they posted.
It's nice because I can do a class whenever I want, but there's not downtime between songs like before when I used a YouTube playlist.
Here's the link if anyone's interested. https://www.shinedancefitness.com/join-online/7 -
@gelatinouscube, I started with increasing my steps initially rather than doing any concentrated cardio - walking the dog more often and a bit further and taking 5-10 minute walking breaks at work. But about 3 months in I noticed that my body fat percentage wasn't changing (based on my scale). I was losing muscle at the same rate as I was losing fat. So, reluctantly I started strength training with free weights. I have access to a free fitness center so, I just started a program on my own. This is what I used to get started. https://self.com/story/guide-to-navigating-free-weights-at-the-gym.
I've added a few additional exercises over time - like wall sits and planks. The whole process takes just 30 minutes and I barely break a sweat, but it's really helped me reduce by body fat %. My muscle mass hasn't decreased since I started the program, but I am losing fat.
Now that my weight is down significantly I've started running. There was no way I could have done that in the beginning without injuring myself. I suggest baby steps and add something that you don't mind doing for the rest of your life.

Holy Smokes! Today I was almost taken out by the lackofmotivationitis bug! My hubby and I slept in and had a late breakfast. My sweet daughter called saying “momma I just need one of YOUR hugs right now”. She’s almost done with finals and will fly home on Thursday. That made me want to stay in bed. Hubby noticed and said “welp let’s get going!” Then we get to the gym and see most all of the cardio machines covered up because they are painting! As I almost used this as an excuse to leave the gym (I know that’s crazy) my hubby finds a free elliptical machine and says “come on brown sugar”. Thank God for him!
This is my slim sexy😜🤪😂😊
How dare they try and keep our gym nice and neat😊
And I did it!!

That's awesome, @lindaporter2018!3

@lindaporter2018, go you! And how sweet to have a motivating husband.
I finished my last final yesterday, so I am officially done with the school semester. I think my stress caught up with me and has provided me with a lovely canker sore. I get terrible canker sores that can affect my whole mouth. This one is causing some severe pain and is making it difficult to eat/swallow/drink/talk/basically anything. In a sense, it’s forced me to reset from all my cravings because I’m having to eat softer food and be thoughtful about my choices. A blessing in disguise? That’s why I’m telling myself at least10 -
@VoicedJoy22 @lindamtuck2018 Thanks, I will look into some beginner workout videos on youtube. Hopefully I'll be able to take up rowing again eventually (well, maybe if I hate mornings less :P)
@aliciap0116 Hahah well I am pretty gelatinous right now. not very cube-ish though. Thanks for the info from the trainer, that's really good to know.
@CLAWSMITH That's an amazing deal on classes! I'm in Aus, and classes cost $12 - $20 each... so I might go look for some youtube playlists
@speyerj the bodyweight exercises sound like another good starting point, thanks!7 -
Wednesday weigh in - I'm up a pound but I know why and I'm rectifying it. I have a friend who went to see her nutritionist for the first time last week and was told she was not eating enough and exercising too much and that's why she was gaining. I'd told her this several times but having a professional tell her helped. She's now eating more, healthier, and exercising less and watching her pounds drop off. She's also only eating between 8 am and 7 pm so I've joined her in this as a measure of solidarity.
I got permission from my IVF doctors to use weights with my walking so I can move forward on that IF and when I can find the energy. Been feeling exhausted on a nearly perpetual basis for weeks and it's either my anemia coming back or mild depression. I have an appointment to get my iron and stuff checked this week so that should answer some questions. Could it also be persistent allergies or stress?13 -

Dec Goal: 206
December Goals:
- Cardio 5 times a week (0 of 5)
- Strength 4 times a week (0 of 4)
- Water 96 oz (avg 80)
- Increase protein to 80 grams/day (avg 71)
- Meditation 3 times a week (0 of 3)
- Continue intermittent fasting at 8/16 (6 of 7)
I'm happy with my scale progress and still hopeful for hitting my goal of 206. But I had ZERO exercise this past week. I do miss it. I knew it would be a very busy week and my gym is now closed until the end of January. I still have a busy month but should be able to fit time for myself in, as today is my last day in the office until Jan 2. Starting to get a cold though which I attribute to this hectic month!5 -
@aliciap0116 you're doing great!
I've never heard of a gym closing for all of January - isn't that the month they normally get the most new memberships? Bummer that you're getting a cold, but hopefully it will be all cleared up by Christmas at least!
An update for me: I'm down .9 lbs so far this week. Gained 1.6lbs after my sister's visit last week and am trying to get that off again before the new year.
Happy Wednesday, everyone! I don't fly home until the evening of Christmas Eve, so still a few days of work to go... which means more goodies to try to dodge in the office!6 -

Just finished my TOM over the weekend. I'm starting to see some of the bloat drop off, but I'm still hanging out around the 242s. I still would love to get back to my pre-Thanksgiving weight of 240.4, lol, but without illness.
I have to accept that maintaining an 8 lb loss from Thanksgiving to today is still a decent accomplishment for me.
I am down an inch off my chest, an inch off my hips, 2.5 inches off my stomach, and 0.5 off my right thigh this month (-5 inches total).
It's getting hard to balance being in multiple MFP groups, lol. As well as trying to stay away from holiday goodies at work.
Keep up the good work, ladies!9 -

Dec SW: 224.6
Dec GW: 221.6
12/1 224.6
12/8 227.0 Two birthdays this past week. I indulged a bit too much. Gotta get back on track.
12/14 224.4 OK, back to my start. (-.2) This coming week I'll have to do my best because you know I plan to enjoy my Xmas week.
12/18 223.2 (-1.4 lbs for Dec) My holiday break starts today! Let's see how I do. I can still make my December goal if I do the right thing. I can think I can. I think I can. I think I can.

I know your inspirational/motivational posts will help me finish the year on a good note. Thanks everyone and good luck!6 -
Good morning everyone depressed, tired, and bored today. Idk how to break my funk and I may have overdone it yesterday. Ugh.11
-
I've been eating like absolute garbage for the last few days, and I feel it, so today I will be very good. That's the plan.
Last night I learned it takes approximately 30 seconds to sing Black Socks (an old camp song), and that I can hold my plank while I sing it, and it's less awful than just watching a timer. Also I made my PT crack up really hard with this strategy. I also enjoy singing endless songs just to see how long I can go. My childhood is so useful lol.
For your entertainment, lyrics:
Blaaack socks,
They never get dirty,
The longer you wear them,
The darker they get.
Sometimes,
I think I should wash them
But something inside me
Says no no not yet.

Weekly weigh-in: I have to admit I was expecting a gain after a terrible week of eating. But I tried to be aware and tried to balance when I could, so guess I did something right as I didn't gain. Even lost a itsy-bitsy bit. This week, I need to do better at tracking.
Nov 27: 239.6 (December starting weight)
Dec 4: 239.2 (-0.4 lbs)
Dec 11: 238.4 (-0.8 lbs)
Dec 18: 237.8 (-0.6 lbs)
Total so far -1.8 lbs. This is not my planned upon 5lbs and likely won't hit that but given its December I think this is a win. Happy Holidays!10 -
I am in the middle of finals (as a teacher not student) so I am trying to wrap up the course and finish my grading. I have 3 whole weeks off for xmas vacation so I plan on using that time to get my workout regiment in order.
I want to try to do early am workouts so that when I transition back to work I am already used to it. I was able to finish hike #40 yesterday Happy to say that I am feeling better and remotivated. Thanks everyone for being here when I needed some kind words.
@lindaporter2018 how great of your husband to motivate you yesterday my boyfriend joined me on my hike, having supportive partners is such a blessing. He can't come with me every time but the few times he does is real nice
@aliciap0116 Its a known that teachers get sick after finals. All the stress that comes with making and grading finals helps to suppress the cold but once that stress is gone BAM! You are probably experiencing something similar, hope its not too bad!
@sweetirish I know depression bouts make me feel exhausted. There were times where I would get home from work and go straight to sleep, no energy to do anything. If you have a history of anemia that can definitely affect your energy levels.7 -
@Tarzan37 Nice job this week!! My "gym" is a free gym in my the office building, with very limited machines and equipment. It's been nice because it's so convenient and gets very little use by others, so it was a non-threatening environment to get started in. They are renovating the gym and hopefully adding things like free weights.
@parkerpowerlift nice job on maintaining your loss and also huge wins with the measurements!!
@sweetirish glad you are getting your iron levels checked; that has been an issue for me too. When my iron is low I also get super cold and have trouble regulating my temperature, which is usually my first clue that my iron is low!
@sharpdust yes, that is so true about getting sick right after a stressful time stops! Enjoy your time off and I'm excited you are using that time off to figure out your new routine!!
@NewOR2015 Nice loss! I know you can, I know you can, I know you can!
@aerohead21 sorry you are in a funk! Hang in there!!
@lindaporter2018 I just love that you and your hubby work out together. My husband has 10-15 lbs to lose but hasn't started working out yet. Hard for us to get out of the house together with a 6 year-old!
Everyone, can I just say how amazing we are for working on our health in the last month of 2019? If would have been really easy to rationalize starting in January of the new decade. So proud of each and every one of us!9 -
I unfortunately haven’t started taking progress photos yet, ugh. But I went back to a photo of me from August 2019 to a photo of today. I still see inflammation and puff in my face, but I think it’s slowly going down.
Long road to go. I keep seeing FB memories of me when I was almost 80 lbs lighter. 😩9 -
Finally some great news regarding Momma. The lymph node biopsies came back negative for cancer. We've got time off until Jan 2 when she will have surgery again. Happy happy happy today.
Trying to find a better strength routine so read the thread about choosing one. Think I'm going with the M&S Dumbbell/Full Body one. Of course my weights are only 3lbs but that's where I'm at so gotta work it. I can tell some difference in my arm strength with the toning video I've been doing. Feel that adding a more rounded and focused routine will be better for helping keep muscle loss to a minimum over all my body.
@lindaporter2018 What a great hubby you have. It's always nice when your partner is encouraging and supportive.
@torihudson6 Yay for finals being done. Hopefully stress will lessen and the canker sores will be gone soon. Love the positive way of using the pain to refocus on choices. I know those are so painful. My Granny kept them constantly and I always felt for her.
@sweetirish Sorry you aren't feeling well. Hoping you find the answer at your appt and will be easily fixed. I know it's hard to stay on track when you are physically and mentally exhausted. Just do what you can handle for now.
@aliciap0116 Progressing nicely. I'm sure you will find something to do while they are shutdown and hopefully it will be even better after reno. Remember taking time for yourself allows you to be more present for others.
@Tarzan37 You're doing great at dropping the weight gain. Stay strong while bobbing and weaving away from the office goodies.
@parkerpowerlift Nice stats!! I would say an 8lb loss and all those inches is definitely a great accomplishment. I can see a difference in your pics. Just keep working it and you will get to your goal!
@NewOR2015 I know you can I know you can! @aliciap0116 lol great minds...saw your post as I scrolled down. It's going to be tight for me to hit goal also. I think I'm going to drop my calories to 1200 from now until Christmas eve. I normally use 1350 so not much of a drop but maybe enough to give me a buffer. We can reach our goals just have to plan it out.
@Aerohead21 Sorry you are in a funk. Try to do any small thing that brings you joy or makes you smile. Watch a comedy, listen to standup, watch cartoons, turn up the music, or whatever works for you.
@Terytha Entertainment planks! I hate the timer too but haven't thought to sing a diddy while planking. I may have to try that. Don't know if I can remember Black Socks..that's a new one to me.
@GroverBlue78 Good job on the loss. Whatever you did works so keep on it.
@sharpdust One more down!!! Making the exercise plan while off is a great idea. By the time you go back to school it should be a habit and easier to maintain.

@bluffgirl67 great news about your momma - so very happy for you!!! And glad you have a breather over the holidays.
@parkerpowerlift I can definitely see the difference! Keep at it!4 -
@bluffgirl67 glad you got some good news about your Mom and you get a break until January!3
-
@bluffgirl67 that’s wonderful news about your mom. You must be so relieved and elated!3
-
Ok I'm in. I'll post my weight on the 2nd of Jan.6
-
@bluffgirl67 that's great news about your mom!
I am sorry guys that I have been MIA...very busy lately and hard to keep up with the thread! It's booming. Great job everyone! Also, hang in there, it's the holidays, give yourselves some slack to enjoy in moderation and not stress...just making the time to post and be on MFP during this time is an awesome accomplishment!!7 -
@aliciap0116 I see, that makes sense now about your gym - how cool that your work offers that!
@bluffgirl67 I'm so happy to hear that you got that wonderful news about your mom!4 -
@bluffgirl67, so happy to hear about your momma. That’s great news.
@sharpdust, I hope you’re able to get some relaxing done on break, too. It’s a great idea to try and build the habit while on break so it’s easy to fall back into when school starts again.
@Aerohead21, sorry to hear you aren’t feeling the best. I hope it passes soon. Just keep logging and coming here for support.
It seems like everyone else is doing great, keep it up all! Sorry I can’t reply to everyone individually. I’ve developed a cold on top of the already painful canker sores so I’ve just been kind of a log today. Being sick always makes me so exhausted.6 -
so much good work being done on here!! well done everyone. i plan to get organised with the personalised replies very soon!! loving everyone's progress photos, scary thought to take one though!!
i'm doing well, lost three kg through jetlag and trying now to maintain that over the festive season, haven't got too much feasting occasions planned so it should be possible. good luck one and all xx9 -
Here is my progress pic. Oct 5 to Nov 23, an 18 lb difference. I think cutting so much sugar and processed foods out of my diet really helped me reduce bloating and puffiness.16 -
Look at you Alicia! What a difference! And you've lost another 10 pounds or so since then. Great job!5
