Finished hike #47 and #48 today. 4 to go and 3 days left in the year!
I have not been logging my foods, need to do better in this area. I am in that weird limbo between xmas and new years, everything is just off. I am reflecting on 2019 and its been a good year overall. Hope to make weight loss/health a huge part of 2020.8 -
Hey everyone, I have been around but not posting, the holidays have really thrown me off! I was doing well for a couple of weeks, but had a busy month with work travel and family visiting over the holidays. The overall result is that I am kind of right back where I started. It's amazing how one bad decision snowballs into another.
I am feeling good though, I have kept up a regular exercise routine as usual and as a result my body feels good despite the fact that I am carrying around extra weight on my frame.
This is a nice time for reflection and focus as the year wraps up. I've been spending lots of relaxing time with my family. I'm also trying not to be too hard on myself about the overindulgences. I have enjoyed amazing food and company the last few weeks, and it has been a joy. Looking forward to working on my goals with all of you in 2020!5 -
Loved reading everyone's posts this morning! Good to see us all still sticking with it and checking in, triumph or trial, during a time of year I usually just give up and blame it all on "the holidays". I maintained weight through Christmas, despite all those lingering snacks @aliciap0116 mentioned! I regularly take extra snacks to work to get them out of my house. I'm usually too busy to snack at work, so they don't get me as badly there, but I can still enjoy a little if I really want to.
I ordered a new pair of work shoes after noticing consistent fatigue in my legs and feet, that had no other discernible cause. I had to lace all my shoes up tighter a few months ago, but I'm having to start swapping some out now! For my work shoes in particular I had ordered a wide, and I no longer need that. The laces are dragging on the ground I have so much excess, lol. They're just not working for the size and shape my feet are now! Hopefully the new shoes will help and I can drop the suspected water weight my muscles are holding onto. My body really likes to drop 3-5 pounds, go back up 1-2, hold there for a week or two, then repeat. *eyeroll*7 -

Same. I never have nice consistent losses. It's down 2.5, back up about half of that and hold for 3-4 days. Then the other half drops off again. I've just decided to set a monthly goal because I can never tell when the losses are coming. Bodies are weird.

Well, December regrettably, was not a good month for me. I was doing great from May to October, with a loss of 49lbs total, then in November, my losses halted but I was able to maintain my 190lbs. December is the first time I’ve seen any kind of sliding backwards. I’m disappointed in myself, but not overly so. I still know I am in control, and that January and the new year will be a good way to reset. I’m telling myself that eating normally was a good “metabolic break” since I was eating at a deficit for 6 months straight, a break can’t be the worst thing, I just can’t let myself spiral out of control continually. I have come very far, and I refuse to let one bad month ruin it entirely. I will get back on course, I will!11

@gonna_reach_the_goal33 Do you know how proud of you we all are! You have and will continue to be successful in your weight loss journey!!

Happy Sunday everyone!
Everyone is doing great! Love the enthusiasm and positivity! This thread has really kept me going. Sorry I haven’t posted much. But I do read it every day. I got out my rusty old laptop so I could post before I go back to work. It is so hard to do on my phone. But it is soooo slow! I may not reply to everyone as it will take me forever to go back…but again, know I have read your posts and very excited and proud of everyone working towards their goals and a healthier life!
Anyway, it’s worth it because you guys are the greatest and I wanted to check in.
@HurleyHurley congrats on your yellow belt! What an achievement! I like your plan and the reward system you have. I personally like yellow but I am glad you are motivated to get to the next color! That soup looks amazing!
@lindamtuck2018 you have done so well! I did the same over the holidays and went with maintenance calories so I would not stress myself out!
@aliciap0116 wowzer, look at you! Way to stay with it and losing during the holiday! Your before and after pictures are motivating and inspirational to say the least! You can definitely see the progress! I am so with you on routine…I am looking forward to having one again!
@bluffgirl67 hope you are feeling better…I see you still logging and exercising! Way to go!
@BrownSugar174 awesome weight loss for this year! You are a wonderful addition to this thread, I enjoy seeing your posts! Thank you for sharing your story about the almost tragic incident at Starbucks…glad you are feeling fit!
@speyerj great job! I look at your goals for December and you are crushing it! You may not reach the goal weight, but the other things will certainly pay off soon!
@mmdeveau don’t let that jump discourage you! You have come along way and that weight will come off…just water weight I am sure! Isn’t it great to have someone notice you’re losing weight, how amazing is that!
@torihudson6 I feel you during the holidays...it really can be tou gh sometimes. I have been feeling pretty down as well but trying to keep my head in the game. You have come so far! By the way your profile pick looks amazing!
@sharpdust wow! You WILL reach your hike goal! Nice! Logging has really helped me be aware f what I am eating…it’s really the only thing I have been consistent with lol! I am determined to make 2020 my healthiest year ever!
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 maintaining during this time is a huge accomplishment! I am glad you see that and are giving yourself a break…this is a marathon not a sprint…and nothing wrong with enjoying the holidays and getting right back to it in January.
@stefsc1 what a great NSV on the new shoes…that’s awesome! I am glad you stuck with it during the holidays…not so easy to do!
@shorepine keeping a regular exercise routine allows us to indulge occasionally right? Way to stick with exercising. I have had a lot of time to reflect as well…and I to a looking forward to 2020 and reaching my goals!
Well, I think that is all I can respond to now…longest post ever lol!
I decided the weekend before Christmas to change to maintenance calories because I was stressing myself out. My goal was not to gain weight. I wanted to enjoy myself, and that I did. But what was different was I was vey mindful of what I was eating and didn’t go completely overboard. I did gain a few pounds but nothing I can’t get off when I get back to my routine.
I was pretty down for the holidays. I am 1200 miles from family and it was just me and my son. He is 12…and in the stage of staying in his room and doesn’t want anything to do with me…except for his presents lol. I really wanted to eat away my feelings! But I did good.
My son got me some things for Christmas…one of them a vegetable chopper…he said it might help me with my new healthier living…I cried. It really motivates you when people realize the changes you are making especially from him!
I also got a gift from a very special person…a soda stream! I haven’t gotten a gift like this EVER. I cried. It got me out of my slump…or funk or whatever you will call it! I have wanted one of these for years! It made me realize that I have a lot to be grateful for and I am so thankful for this thread. It really has made a difference in my life.
I took some measurements this weekend and a before picture..ugh. I don’t have the nerve yet to post it…but I will when I take my first progress pic. I have a huge plan for 2020…wish me luck!
I am going to post my final weigh in on the 31st. Looking forward to January 2020!

@mmccloy12 – Thank you for your support! I used to be the one living far away from the rest of the family, so I know how it feels. My sister can empathize with your current relationship with your son. My nephew is going to be 10 on the 31st and on Christmas when she wasn’t frustrated with him, she was wondering what happened to her sweet little boy!
@jspeyer – my last time down below 200, I was stuck at the mother of all plateaus for what ended up being about a year. I changed things up and started lifting – the inches came off first then some weight. Then I started with injuries – a year-and-a-half’s worth of them. I’m still undecided if I’m going to try to do recomp as I get closer to my preliminary goal. Just an additional thought: I think during the last big major weight loss effort I pushed as hard as I could, as fast as I could all the time – and with nowhere to go once I topped out with effort, my body adapted and boom I plateaued (more like flat-lined!) This time, while I would love to keep advancing with C25K, I’m taking it slow with the progression. I’m not minding working one week’s intervals for nearly a month, then advancing. Cardio-wise, I could slowly run all or nearly all of the distance I cover during a C25K workout. It’s my crappy lower-body joints that need to take it slow. I just keep thinking, literally, “one step at a time!” But you look great in the picture you posted earlier, way to go!
@BrownSugar174 – sounds like a nice save! I always trip spectacularly over the loose boards on the boardwalk down at the beach. I’m not hoping to trip this week, but if I do I hope I can be as graceful as you!
@sharpdust – those hikes sound wonderful! Sunrise and sunset hikes sound delightful to me – if that’s when you’re going. Good job accomplishing your goal by year-end.
Height: 5'6"
SW (09/08/2019): 239.2 lbs
December SW (12/1): 210.0 lbs
12/8/19: 206.8
12/15/19: 205.2
12/22/19: 202.2
12/29/19: 200.6
December GW: 202.0 lbs
GW: 150 lbs (then reconsider)
My goals for December are:- Cardio for 45-60 min, 5-6 times a week, 3 of the sessions Couch-to-5K workouts – 7 days, 3 C25K workouts.
- Core exercises at least 3 times a week – Check.
- Lose 3 inches in my measurements – 3.25”, so check. But I really thought it might be more.
- Lose 8 pounds – check, as of today, but we’ll see if the loss holds out until Wednesday.
- Take better care of my skin in hopes it will start to regain its shape – mostly a check for the week.
Also, there was a milestone I never saw coming or at least didn’t think of at the beginning of December because I thought losing 8 pounds this month might end up being a stretch. It’s being back at a 100-lb-loss from my all-time measured high back in May 2013. I’ve really been focusing on getting back down to my lowest weight in about 20 years, which I realistically think I won’t see until February or March. But I have to admit, seeing the “100 pounds lost” message really got to me yesterday.
The other thing about being ahead of goal, and this was nothing I wanted to achieve for this month, but it seems like I might be able to see onederland at the end of the month. I’m not allowing myself to think of that as a real goal; I will be on vacation this week and though I have every intention of sticking with the plan I know being in a different place may put a wrench in things. I’m only going to the shore, where my mother lives, but it’s really difficult not to eat and order out at the restaurants there. I’ve shopped so I can be sure to have fresh meals, but I know there will be some restaurant meals, too. The one thing that will be good is that I will be in a place where walk and run workouts are easy and even fun to do. (No hills though, and I do like walking and running my hills!)
Though I am happy about the scale, I really do get concerned about losing weight too fast. If I could know that every pound I lose would be body fat I’d accept any amount of weight loss, no matter how fast or slow. But I’m not lifting weights (yet) and I am concerned that losing more than 2 pounds a week will result in muscle loss, with the biggest concern being cardiac muscle loss. Although I have a scale that measures body fat, it has been too inconsistent from weigh-in to weigh-in so I no longer try to use it.
Finally, I was really excited to measure myself this month. I thought I’d be down a whole lot of inches. But some of my measurements didn’t change, most notably in my waist. (What am I doing those side planks for!!!??? ) Overall, my stomach looks smaller and one of my measurements catches the bottom of my stomach and that one did decrease. My last thought about it is: no wonder the pants are still hanging in there, I haven’t shrunk as much as I thought.
I’ll post a final report and do a final check in for my December goals on the 31st.
Holy cow. I cannot believe it is nearly 2020 and the end of a decade! (My nephew was born on 12/31/09; when I went to see him on 1/1/10 I told him that even though he was just two days old, he was already an old man because he’d lived in two decades.) I normally don’t view the New Year as a starting point the way others do, though I might make a resolution or two. Somehow this year seems a bit more momentous! Enjoy the rest of 2019!

NSV:
Today was an unseasonably and pleasantly warm day at 55°F this afternoon (average temp here at this time of the year is 30°F for a high), so the boys and I hit the trails. The Glacial Drumlin trail runs right by here. My boys are 9 and 10 years old. They had their bikes and they pretended we were on a quest to the "Echo Castle" (a big concrete underpass about a mile and half down the trail with amazing echo ability). I was the queen and they were my knights, sworn to defend me on the journey. They named their bikes "Charger" and "Lightning", valiant steeds they were. We fought mages and archers, swordsmen and knaves, but no ogres...they didn't like the sound of ogres. Thankfully my brave sir knights protected me as I jogged, and I went farther today in one solid jog then I ever have in my life. (I don't think I've ever managed to jog continuously for a mile, like ever...as a kid 400 m was about it and that was a stretch.) It wasn't the fastest mile ever, nor the most brilliant, and most people probably could have walked it faster, but it was a sound accomplishment for me and I'm proud of it. Roughly a mile and a half, CONTINUOUS. Toot toot (of my own horn). Just wanted to share with people that could understand my excitement. I get that that is nothing for skinny people / avid runners, but it was huge to me. I did the trip to Echo Castle at a steady jog, keeping HR at 145ish, and intermittently walked and jogged on the way back.
From my Polar watch -
The boys had a blast, love listening to their imaginations fly. Hope everyone had a pleasant day.12 -
Just saw this on another thread and love love love it!!

Congratulations @mmdeveau on hitting 100 pounds loss from your original starting weight! And you are so close to Onederland! Thanks also for the advice that it's okay to go slow. I just get inpatient, but I've never plateaued for more than a week, so I should count myself lucky and keep on keeping on.
@HurleyHurley , you amaze me with your determination. I just started running again, but I haven't been able to do 30 minutes yet. And I've lost more than you as well, 'cause I've been at this for 7 months. Just think how fast you are going to be after you drop 50 pounds!

@mmccloy12, thank you, coming here and reading everyone’s stories is so motivational. It really helps. I’m sorry to hear you were also down, but it seems like things have turned around! “Before” photos are nerve wracking, I really need to take one am I can see the difference versus wondering if I’m imagining it in my head. I felt like my face really looked slimmer and I was feeling the lighting haha, so I took a selfie. Which I rarely do, I’m so critical of myself in photos, but this was the first one I took and I actually loved it.
@HurleyHurley, that’s AMAZING! Go you!
@brownsugar174, that’s a perfect quote to describe how I’m feeling. I am feeling a bit nervous to step on the scale but I know I need to bite the bullet and do it.
@sharpdust, you’re killing your hikes! I’m so excited for you.
I made it to the gym tonight, for the second night in a row, which is a big accomplishment for me as I’m trying to pull out of this slump. Tomorrow I’m sign into up for the kickboxing class with a close friend of mine and I’m genuinely looking forward to it, which I never thought I’d feel towards exercise. I’m hoping to keep up my gym streak and get better at continuing to track my food.6 -
@BrownSugar174 I particularly love that last one. "Balance doesn't include punishment." If I'm going to go over in a day or have that piece of cake or whatever, rather than feel guilty about it, I'm going to enjoy the bajeebus out of it, factor it in, and move on.
@speyerj Thank you! Right now, my focus is on keeping my focus. I'm trying to keep the enthusiasm and excitement going as this is about the time when I've begun to lose focus when I've tried to lose weight in the past. If that takes feeding my OCD by filling in the chart, feeding my completionist streak by not missing an entry, a daily weighing, or a three-times weekly (minimum) workout, feeding my quirks by earning (self produced) belts/badges, and blogging to this forum where I feel we're all in it together, then that's what I'm doing to do. So, thank you, your comments mean the world. Your word to the fates at large that I follow your path and do drop that 50 pounds, and counting.
@torihudson6 Thank you! I'm stoked, some day I will run a 5K without breaking.4 -
December was rough due to some life crisis issues.... but I did not gain. I did not binge ever. And I put most of my candy in the freezer cause I don't want it right now.
I call all that a pretty good start for January!10 -
Tomorrow makes a month and and end to December tracking as the next will be in January. I still feel emotionally unstable. I know I blew my 4 lb goal out of the water but idk by exactly how much because idk how my scale compares to my physician’s scale. It’s likely off by a couple of pounds.
So are we going to start a new thread? What’s going to happen in a couple of days?5 -
@RavenStCloud will start a new thread. @aerohead21, don't worry about the the physician's scale, just use the one you have at home. It's recommended that you weigh yourself first thing after your morning pee, with no clothes on. That's the best way to get a true weight, and it will also be the lowest. You are doing great. And you thought you couldn't lose weight. Look at you just killing it!5
-
Hey, hey. Yup, I'll be posting the new group soon.4
-
My stats:
Sw 288 April 2019
Cw 225
Gw 144?
12/1: 225
12/8: 219.7
12/15: 217.5
12/22 217.5
12/30 216.3
I was going to wait until tomorrow to weigh in for the month but figured one day wouldn't matter. Had a really good loss in the beginning of the month then held steady. Considering all the homemade goodness customers at the pharmacy I work at kept bringing in all month long. I consider this a win!! Some days I was tempted other days I didn't have any. I didn't let myself feel guilted into eating just because everyone else around me was. If I had something I logged it and moved on. My total loss for the month is 8.7 lbs which is so exciting since I was hoping to maintain or just gain a few. Looking forward to seeing all you lovely ladies in January!! 💞 2020 here we come!!

Hi!
Can I join the January thread when it starts? I've read through the thread and I'd really like to join for support!7 -
December goals
99.9kg - again! currently 100.2, surely I can do this!!I made it, got a freak loss, 96.4kg, woohoo!!!
average cals under 1950 a day (before exercise) - last month was 1965 [average cals 1764 but bear in mind I didn't log two days so probably quite a bit higher than this[/b]
average snacks under 23% - last month was 23.5% again, didn't log two days which would have been snack heavy, but average for the other days 18,25%!!![/b]
meditate 3 times a week - been doing this on and off for a while I didn't actually work out how i was going to record this, but it's probably somewhere close!
Feeling really pleased with myself. Hoping to continue with these goals in january and aim to get to the low 90s, i.e. 94.9kg
Well done everyone for hanging in there the best you could over a tricky time of year!

11/29: 263.5

*Lose 5lbs for December—I’m proud of myself for meeting my goal. I was skeptical because my family has a LOT of parties during this month, but it worked out!
*Log honestly—I’ve done my best with this as it can be hard if someone else is hosting something, but I feel I came as close as I could.
*Drink more water—still going well! I’d like to up my intake to more than 64oz, but I’m happy that I’m able to get that in consistently.
*Gym 3x per week—this is the only goal I didn’t really meet. I did 1-2x, but this is a goal I hope to carry over into January and make happen. Actually, when I join the kickboxing class it’ll be 5 days a week, so I won’t have a choice!
We made it through the end of December everyone. I can’t wait to see everyone in the January thread! Thank you to all who have been so positive towards me on the hard days and celebrated with me on the good ones. This is such a supportive thread, without it, I’m sure I would’ve slacked a loooot more than I did, but anytime I had the urge I just came here and read everyone’s updates12 -
Ok so monthly recap: I’m hungry as hell. Pretty sure I’m still dehydrated 😅 I like my walking but my kids hate it and literally, physically try to stop me. I don’t walk a lot because I’m way, way out of shape. If we go by the doctor’s scale I started at 220 lb and today I weighed at 202 on my scale. That’s 18 lbs in one month! I still have 50 lbs to lose to goal....well...60 if I’m being ambitious...8
-
Thanks for thinking about me. I'm feeling better. One day even though I didn't feel quite up to it I spent the day shopping and eating out twice. Momma was having a good day and wanted to get out of the house. So when she feels up to something we go. The scale was up thanks to all that but luckily it isn't weigh in. I should drop by last weigh in on the morning of the 1st.
@mmdeveau So happy you got some new pants. I thought about you when shopping the other day. Sales were great but I didn't buy anything. I kept thinking my britches aren't falling off and I will just wait until they are. Awesome job on 100lb loss!! Have a great vacation and enjoy those beach walks.
@BrownSugar174 Glad you didn't get hurt. I consider that a wonderful NSV! Returning to balance is a great way to look at getting over the holidays.
@Aerohead21 Depression is such a struggle day to day and winter usually makes it worse. Don't let the fact the goal may be blown whether by a little or a lot get to you. It's a bump the in road that you've been traveling well. Be proud of that and know you are doing fine. That is definitely a joyful moment. hugs
@speyerj Your overall ability to hit weekly goals consistently has always made me want to do the same. Don't sweat not hitting them as well during the holidays. You will be back to checking them off I'm sure. With the amount of weight you have lost already your body is probably going through an adjustment period. Upping your calories to compensate for all the exercise is a great idea and should get you back on track. I know from reading that the less we have to lose the slower it will be. I have no doubt you will work out a successful plan.
@Sanriohippie Congrats on your 75lb loss..that is wonderful! Beautiful transformation photos.
@torihudson6 Sorry you are feeling down. I look at the success threads too and it does help me. Hopefully of us dealing with depression and such will break through the clouds and step into the sun soon. Kickboxing sounds like fun...you are doing great getting your exercise in. Oh and I love your selfie.
@seximama2017 Very nice loss in pounds and inches. You did great over the holidays.
@aliciap0116 I do better when my routine isn't messed up too especially exercise. I like doing mine in the morning when I'm the only one up except for the cats. When I've had to miss morning time it is so hard to do it late in the day. I admire all y'all who exercise after working all day. I'm right there with you on the left over holiday foods. I'm a eat it instead of throw it out type also. It's ok to get rid of them even if it means dumping them in trash. I trashed the velveta/rotel dip yesterday even though I had only eaten a little bit on Christmas Eve. Normally I would have eaten it all within a couple of days. We have to do what is best for our goals. Your updated photo is amazing!! All your hard work is really paying off.
@sharpdust Hoping you are getting those hikes in. You can get it done
@gonna_reach_the_goal33 You have done an excellent job dropping 49lbs! Don't let this month's little slip get you down. We all are going to have ups and downs while on this journey and that's ok. Let it go, get back to your routine, and you will be moving forward again.
@mmccloy12 Love your son's gift and reason behind it. Sounds like you doing a wonderful job of raising him up to be caring and thoughtful of others. Enjoy all your new presents while counting your blessings. Can't wait to hear your plan for 2020.
@HurleyHurley *Highfive* way to run girl! Love that your son's were with you and who wouldn't want to get echo castle with that kind of story line. Best encouragement ever!
@theleadmare Sorry you had a rough month. Great job on not gaining or binge eating. That's a great start for the new year.
@Candyn617 Wow!! What a great loss. You took this holiday month by the horns and showed it who was boss!
@orangequilt Excellent loss! Keeping up that way will definitely result in hitting Jan goals.

Wow, it's so impressive reading through the posts and seeing what you have all accomplished! Very inspiring- thank you all for sharing. I'm impressed so many lost so much weight in December, which is such a tough time to do so. I wish I could count myself among those who did, but I don't feel jealous, just inspired to make something happen for me in January.
@mmccloy12 it sounds like you had such a sweet Christmas with your son- even if he's in full on tween mode these days. You're like me, I cry when something touches me, and I laughed because my SIL gifted me a soda stream on Christmas a few years ago and I think I cried too.
@HurleyHurley I loved your description of biking with your sons. I have two little kids too and it sounds like an adventure we would go on. I like to jog while they ride bikes, too, although we haven't done it in a while as winter has set in. I also take my older son (7) jogging, he loves running and we usually race in short bursts, rather than consistently run, and it ends up being a great workout!
@Aerohead21 that is an amazing weight loss in just one month- wow.
I keep feeling like I'm back on track, and then get tempted in the evening by something lying around the house asking me to eat it. There are still remnants from Christmas and NYE is yet to happen. Chocolates, half empty bottles of really good wine, the makings for fancy cocktails, and that dreaded leftover lemon cheesecake that derailed me a few nights ago. on Saturday night my husband and I stayed up really late playing a board game I got for Christmas, drinking fancy cocktails. As a result, yesterday I was too tired to workout. I did manage a short hike with my kids and went to bed early last night. Today I'm at work, and I brought my gym bag with me, and its actually sunny. So, I'm going to get out for a jog outside and get some much needed sunshine on my face.
Happy almost-end-of-December!8 -
Today is inventory day. Everyone is eating pizza, but I had a chicken wrap with no sauce from the coffee shop.
I want pizza, but my realization was that I want good pizza, not that crappy pizza they brought in. That stuff isn't worth my extremely limited calories.
Besides I still have so many Christmas desserts and chocolates.9 -
@BrownSugar174 You look fabulous‼️5

great work pamiede on the loss!4
-
@mmdeveau thanks! Thats exactly what I did and what I will need to do tomorrow to finish
@orangequilt @Candyn617 way to go!
@mmccloy12 how sweet that someone got you that soda stream, I’ve been interested in one
@torihudson6 kickboxing, thats awesome! I’m sure it will burn so many calories and how great to be able to go with a friend. You did such a good job this month!
@cory17 ditto, this month has been hectic, very much looking forward to normalcy
@pamiede a loss is a loss!
I have 2 hikes to do tomorrow to finish up my 52 hike challenge. I’m so happy that I am finishing that up, its been fun. December was not a great month for me so looking forward to January. Oh and I finally bought a new scale today! Really need to refocus on my calorie intake because that was working for me. Hope you all have a happy and safe New Years.5
