AF: (11/21 days)
I need to get back on track, I already blew "dry Jan". I want to end with more AF days than A days.6 -

That's still doable!

Plan B - you are having DAMP (not soggy, not dry) January. And you can still finish out the montb with more AF's than A's
😊😊😊6 -
Well here we are on the morning of the 23/01/2020 and I am still AF for the month
Upon refection if anyone, including myself had told me that this would be the case I woulda laughed and probably spit my bourbon and cola out
It appears to be contagious as SWMBO (she who must be obeyed ) has been AF for the past 5 days too.
I can see and feel the difference in both mind and body, 8 days to go and I am confident of achieving this.
The loss of 3.8kg during this time has been a bonus too.7 -

I love your post. Mega congrats to you for this achievement and to your other half for joining in as a support. Such an inspiration for everyone on here. Keep up the great job.4 -
As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
I just made it to 16 for December.
Wednesday January 01 - 3 drinks
Thursday January 02 - 3 drinks
Friday January 03 - AF
Saturday January 04 - AF - Had to delay and delay and delay today, really wanted to have drinks...but I didn't.
Sunday January 05 - 3 drinks
Monday January 06 - AF
Tuesday January 07 - 3 drinks. Although I have skipped some Tuesdays in the past, it is my designated drink day. I felt off the rails today and know that I need to make some changes with jobs, because the Tuesdays are increasingly just too much for me. Tough to find another job at 59, but the stress is ridiculous. That first sip of alcohol was nicely numbing. I know intellectually that it is not the best way to decompress, but it certainly is surefire and quick.
Wednesday January 08 - AF
Thursday January 09 - 3 drinks - worked early morning until 8pm today, started thinking by 7pm of having a drink when I got home after a grueling day...and I did. I sure am not racking up many AF days this month so far! I know that I won't get rid of that 5 pound gain over the holidays (which took me 7 months to lose!) unless I stop the alcohol. Work in progress.
Friday January 10 - AF. Planned wine tomorrow evening with a friend.
Saturday January 11 - Wine and Brandy. The conversation flowed so easily as those of you who have imbibed in alcohol know how that goes. I was pretty good about having a water in between each drink, that made me feel as if I was "drinking less". Ready to get serious about racking up some AF days soon.
Sunday January 12 - AF
Monday January 13 - AF
Tuesday January 14 - 3 drinks. Pretty much 1 for 1. Going to try to do a little better. No regrets for having drinks tonight. I am never going to be an abstainer, but definitely want to drink less.
Wednesday January 15 - AF - halfway to the lower end of my goal for the month.
Thursday January 16 - 3 drinks - wanted the 4th, but knew that it would make me throw up, so didn't. I want to get back to trying to get 2 AF days in a row each time in between.
Friday January 17 - AF
Saturday January 18 - AF - It was touch and go there for a couple of hours, I really felt like having a couple of drinks. I am sure that I will be happy about it in the morning that I managed to resist.
Sunday January 19 - 3 drinks. Definitely will be AF tomorrow, Tuesdays are usually a very busy day for me.
Monday January 20 - AF
Tuesday January 21 - AF - Very busy day tomorrow working out of town. No booze today!
Wednesday January 22 - 3 drinks. Helluva long day. I realize that I reward myself with drinks for working ridiculously long, or the opposite, having a good relaxing day. Thinking about that.
Running tally: 12AF days out of 22 days so far.5 -

AF for 22 Days and today WILL be 23
I've surprised myself if I'm honest to have made to 3 weeks AF. It's not been plain sailing or always easy to resist the little whispers in the back of my head but so far so good. Having my wife on the same journey has really helped as has the results on the scales.
Quite and eye opener to realize how many calories I've been pouring down my gullet LOL
I have a planned drinking day next week for a work event and bizarrely I'm not looking forwards to it at all. (I am looking forwards to my vacation though at the end of Feb when I plan to let lose and enjoy myself)
Good Luck with the rest of the week everyone...and of course the weekend!
Dry or Soggy every drink less is a win!

It is likely to go downhill from here. A work event tonight will probably have drinks but i’m cycling home so that might persuade me to steer clear. Then tomorrow I finish work for a week’s holiday. It won’t be super alcoholic but there will be wine with dinner most nights.7 -

DH is struggling. It is all or nothing with him and I can relate "somewhat".
Monday I had 1 glass of wine with him because he brought home a bottle after finding out he passed a required certification test.
He knew I would be heading to Book Club and he would be home alone. This is when the struggle really hits. Once he starts it is hard for him to stop. When I returned home he had polished off the wine bottle and had 2 bourbon & cokes. Not really sure how to help him on the nights I'm not home.
But I tell myself. I cannot be guilty about going out in the evening a few times a month. And I can only control my own actions. I stopped at the one glass and drank water at book club as per my plan.7 -

There is something very good that can come from stepping aside and taking a full blown look at how our habits control our lives. You, I and everyone else that is on here can, as you put it, honesty say we have in some degree impressed ourselves by breaking a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.
Congrats on 3 weeks5 -
Welcome newcomers and lurkers! Great to have you here. Cutting back is quite a journey. Sometimes easy, sometimes hard, but a common theme I’m reading is the joy of a clear head in the morning, and double bonus of some weight loss and $$$$ savings. Yay! All great things.
So far only 10AF /23 days for me this month. But, on those days, huge improvement for me is to only have one glass of wine. So I guess this is a pretty damp January so far.
My plan Friday night worked- I didn’t have more than one. Now that I’ve cut way back, I can’t help but notice how many others around me are having. Once the scales are removed from our eyes, it’s amazing what we see.
Book club tonight, one planned wine.
I had my hubby cancel our quarterly case of wine delivery. Cutting back on wine also means we can’t get through these cases!

I see we were writing at the same time or I would have commented earlier. YOU have to do what is right for yourself. Although your DH has good intentions while you are around, you should be able to enjoy time away from home and not think about what he may or may not be drinking.
I am in some what a similar situation. It did take me time to not want to slap mine in the head everytime I saw he snuck booze and lied about it. I then fiquired out that was part of his addiction also, the need to try and get away with something. All very immature on my other halves end. I am certain it stems from childhood and needing to get away with things.
So go out to your book clubs and social gatherings guilt free, knowing you are taking care of #1 -> YOU ☺6 -

Thanks MissMay! All the support and ideas from you and the other regulars makes things easier IMHO.
One thing that that this thread has taught me is that I should keep posting no matter if I have a "bad" week or even month. To post about my struggles, when they come, as well as my successes.

I had a busy week at work with travel and obligatory work social events. I was also in charge of the events, and the hotel we stayed at had complimentary wine and cheese at happy hour. I definitely indulged way too much, the tension of the work environment in a social setting was a bad recipe for me. Both nights I had two glasses of wine and then had cocktails with dinner.

@MissMay DH & I have talked about it multiple times over the past year. He is not hiding his drinking from me when I go out in the evenings for book club and other social evenings. He has the same issue when I'm home. He drinks to numb the boredom in the evenings. It has been great that he has done as well as he has joining me on many AF days per week. It is my hope that he continues to work through this for himself.
But I cannot feel guilty or responsible. I'm drinking less for me!8 -

Yes the bad drinking habit can come back quickly. But you seem to be pretty aware of it. And 17AF/23 is a really great acheivement. You got this!4 -
@Lilylady3k, sorry I got carried away with my own situation and my own hubby denying his drinking amounts to me. How lucky you are that you and yours can at least "talk" about what is going on.
I am very curious what the event is you will be attending - The make it, bake it, fake it .......what is this? Sounds interesting.5 -
My own struggle this weekend is going to be heading out of state to spend the weekend with husbands friends. Attending a concert, dinner and exploring a new town together. The other couple are know are huge wine enthusiasts. Wanting to visit every winery or brewery that is within walking or shuttle distance.
My past experience is, we get together for an event, and by the time the event takes place "someone" is so hammered they fall asleep or need to be excused from our little group.
I have an opened mind, this is a new year and possibly the over indulger will have made peace with thei devil on their shoulder and want to spend the time with ole friends as planned.
Wish me luck.7
