Old habit: 1-4 drinks/evening.
Goal: Ease into only drinking on Friday & Saturday! Consistently be AF 5 days a week.
January outcome- 15 AF / 27 days.

Daily note: Proud of myself. Yesterday evening was a rough one with my 3 year old (He's starting his terrible 3's). A drink sounded like great way to calm my nerves after putting him to bed. I decided against it. I need to coupe with my emotions in other, healthier ways. Turning to food or alcohol is not the answer. It's a habit/behavior I'm trying to break.

Hey everyone, I'm still here, but it has been a bit busy. My goal was to only enjoy alcohol two days a week. It's proved hard as the first part of my month seemed a little stressful. I'm not doing too bad though, and am definitely drinking less than I was before I started my Less Alcohol journey. I previously was drinking 5-6 nights a week.
Feb 1: 2 drinks (2 glasses of wine, birthday hotel weekend away!)
Feb 2: 1 drink (1 glass of champagne, celebrating the fact that I bought my kids a pony).
Feb 3: AF
Feb 4: AF
Feb 5: AF
Feb 6: AF
Feb 7: 1 drink (1 glass of wine)
Feb 8: 2 drinks (2 glasses of wine)
Feb 9: AF
Feb 10: 2 drinks (2 glasses of wine, at a work training and had to make small talk at a mandatory social event)
Feb 11: AF
Feb 12: AF proud of myself for this particular stretch as I am still at the working training, and there are still mandatory awkward social events).
So far in Feb: 7/12 AF days

@brittgreenlikethecolor88 I felt that way too. A stressful evening with kiddos (and driving in the snow), and I was ready for a glass. I did choose to eat more, but I truthfully think I was hungry (and thankfully it wasn't sweets).
I really need to make a tea habit. I have so much great tea, and I only drink it sparingly.8 -

As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
Short month, so this might be challenging.
I had 18AF days for January
Saturday February 1 - AF - Superbowl party tomorrow (yes, we Canadians love it too) so not planning to be AF. I am planning to intersperse glasses of water between drinks, and I have 1 cold no-alcohol beer to take with me to the party.
Sunday February 2 - Drinks and too much fattening food, but very fun. Shakira and JLo were great!
Monday February 3 - AF - Felt a bit rough this morning until I had my lemon water.
Tuesday February 4 - AF - It is my designated drinks day, but I also am trying to have 2AF days in a row in between, so abstained.
Wednesday February 5 - 3 drinks
Thursday February 6 - AF
Friday Feb 7 - AF - The weight is finally coming down after Superbowl. We have a big event here in town next weekend, Winter Blitzville, the second annual. They close off the downtown and snowmobiles flip in the air over ramps, there are live bands, bbqs on the main street, fireworks etc. Many people will come back and forth from my house over the course of the day and night (I live right downtown) and I will put a giant pot of mulled wine on the stove for people coming and going to use the washroom and warm up a bit. I am going to try for only 2 drink days before then, because I will for sure want to indulge in some Mulled Wine. Guess that I will need to clean my house a bit lol.
Saturday Feb 08 - AF - It was a planned day for drinks, but I wasn't feeling that well, so wanted to give my body a fighting chance.
Sunday Feb 09 - AF - I was going to have Champagne to watch the Oscars, but didn't. OMG, 4 AF days in a row!! Second time ever
Monday Feb 10 - AF - My first time to 5 AF days in a row. Planned drinks day tomorrow.
Tuesday Feb 11 - 3 drinks - I thought that they might hit me after 5 AF days, but surprisingly they didn't. Hmm. Big dinner I guess.
Wednesday Feb 12 - AF - Even though I didn't feel "buzzed" last night, I still felt a bit rough today. Planning on AF until Mulled Wine on Saturday.
Thursday Feb 13 - AF - Still didn't feel well today, but got through the work day and wasn't up to having drinks.
Running tally - 10AF days out of 13 days so far9 -

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
Made it another day with no cravings! Plan on being AF all weekend, as the only event I have planned is taking my daughter and her friend to the ballet. Husband and I will take some sleep over romance, so aside from making some heart iced sugar cookies with the kids today, it is pretty much a normal day.

I had a very irritating day on Wednesday. It was about 8:30 pm by the time I got home that night and I noticed my husband was drinking a 12 pack of beer. I decided to drink one and as I opened it, I said, I won't drink more than three. Well, it was disgusting so I only drank half of one and dumped the rest! I've never done that before. If I made up my mind that I was going to drink one night, I always would drink for the sake of drinking, even if I didn't like the beer. Hope that means I'm making some permanent progress!13

If I'm drinking, it's for the enjoyment of the taste, not for the enjoyment of drinking ...does that make sense ?? Now on my 3rd [and last] 3 ounce glass of pinot grigio to accompany my home rotisseried chicken. The over indulgence will be on the bird, not on the wine. Protein loading, carb avoidance are the words of the day. And I LOVE me some bread... sigh....
MFP has been a great tool to balance out what I want, vs what I need for nutrition.
My drunk ex-SIL has moved out of the neighborhood, no longer across the street, with my grandson, but still drunk. The little guy is doing great in a new school, bonding with SIL 's new girl friend [his ex wife and her sister and I agree that this one's a "keeper"] and her sons. Grandson has expressed a desire to dump all his Dad's booze down the drain, but realizes that Dad would just buy more. And would be be extremely pissed at him ...so, no. Hugs all around, and no resolution.
3 months will bring a drivers license and a potential part time job for him. All we can do, from various locations, is give him a soft place to fall.
When I was a pre teen something prompted me to ask my father why he never drank, perhaps because of an aunt's over imbibing husband. Daddy said "Because I'm an alcoholic". That meant absolutely nothing to me at the time. In my late teens I noticed that he kept a 6 pack of beer in the basement fridge, only drinking one each week after the lawn was mowed. I was at that time married and out of the home, and remembered that MY lawn mowing reward had been a cold Pepsi.
Still on the fence as to whether alcoholism is inherited. If so, I got it, but my younger two sisters and brother did not. My oldest and youngest daughters did not at all. My middle daughter and I have struggled. We are both beating the curse.
As far as my Grandson's geneology, his Dad's Pop was a youthful boozer who was strongly against drinking and was not against beating up his son when he caught him drinking . This I know because they were our next door neighbors when our children were teens.
Many noisy nights.
With an alcoholic father, and a [trying to not be Grandma}, I'm wondering if there is any future hope for my Grandson.

Day 10 AF done! Yes, really. Yesterday a tempting thought came to me - I was thinking I "deserved" a day off, for being "good". I said to myself: sorry, you make no sense. Not in my best interest. This was the same flawed thinking that wrecked me last year. I have to stand my ground and challenge my illogical thinking10

Very busy reading in here. That makes me so happy that everyone feels comfortable and at ease enough to put it out there.
@forestdrewler1 the wonderful news is YOU were directly across the street from your Grandson before he moved. He sounds as if he is on the right path, all due to "Gram" I am sure. β‘ not a dark post at all.
My Feb 14th was dry. I have been off work do to bad weather and sick clients. Yesterday I baked since I was home. Nothing better than goodies from the heart, for your significant other. Then out to dinner. Which was dry for me also. No real craving, not even when those beautiful martni glasses past me. Next challenge will be next weekend...MIL may be in town, which would always make me want to drink heavy UNTIL I came to the conclusion that I did not want to be anything like her.

Day 11 AF done! I am sleeping GREAT but had 2 cravings on Saturday, one mid-afternoon and one after dinner. Dealt with the first by having a spoonful of honey (had nothing else sweet in the house) and taking a nap. Dealt with the second by having 2 cranberry juice on ice. Craving times coincide exactly with the times I used to drink on weekends. Today I will be sure to be out busy shopping so fingers crossed it's a no-craving day.....8

Hi! Been neglecting checking in this month - similar to January. I have had a drink almost every day for the last several days. Even though I had some AF days at the beginning of the month, Iβm starting fresh today. No looking back (translation: trying my best not to beat myself up for bad decisions).
Day 1 AF and will check in tonight.
