Less Alcohol - FEBRUARY 2020 - One Day at a Time

Well after completing January AF, I was rather proud of myself
Feb came along, and I had to be honest with myself, I like a beer or two, followed by a bourbon, but all in moderation.
Alas, not wanting to make excuses, my job entails dealing with persons who deal with mental health issues, those who are classified as exhibiting 'challenging behaviours', and today 05/02/20 was 'CHALLENGING' ( being constantly verbally abused with threats of harm)
So 3 beers were had, and 5 pre mix bourbon and colas were imbibed upon returning home, I am proud of what I attained over January, and the team we have here will assist me in maintaining minimal amount of 'stress relief'
Together your support is without a doubt critical to help us all in this journey7 -
Welcome to all of our new folks, sorry if I have been neglect in giving a greeting to you. There is something funky going on with getting to the community forums lately on my computer. 😠
As it happens, there is always a big rush to try and make new changes with each new year as on the January thread. Not meeting the goal you set out for should not discourage anyone from keeping on track OR deter you from wanting to make better choices with alcohol. Over time, spread out with moderation, works wonders for so many.
So if you tried January and it did not go as you had planned, do not give up. Rome was not built in a day.
Happy mid-week
you are an inspiration to all

Short month, so this might be challenging.
I had 18AF days for January
Saturday February 1 - AF - Superbowl party tomorrow (yes, we Canadians love it too) so not planning to be AF. I am planning to intersperse glasses of water between drinks, and I have 1 cold no-alcohol beer to take with me to the party.
Sunday February 2 - Drinks and too much fattening food, but very fun.
Monday February 3 - AF - Felt a bit rough this morning until I had my lemon water.
Running tally - 2AF day out of 3 days so far
keep it up, we are all here to support you

Old habit: 1-4 drinks/evening.

January outcome- 15 AF / 27 days.

FEB 3- AF
FEB 4- AF
Daily note: This month has been a breeze so far! After last Friday night ( I had 3 drinks) and a Saturday morning of not feeling good, drinking just doesn't sound appealing. Crazy what a few AF days and some clarity will do! This Friday, my husband's brother will be graduating from his firefighter training program & we will be attending a ceremony and reception. I plan on having a glass of wine, that's it for the weekend
4 AF / 4 days6 -
So my 20+ day "AF" challenge starts today. Nervous but feeling ready....and stocking up on my back-up support: pink grapefruits, 100% cranberry juice +water, and for emergencies: talenti chocolate gelato7

Hi everyone! I'm back for February. I had a pretty successful January, but ended the month indulging in a fair bit of alcohol thanks to my birthday which I used an excuse to have a free pass to enjoy all sorts of unhealthy foods and drink.
In January, I had 24 AF days! My previous drinking habit was to drink probably 5-6 days a week, usually 2-3 drinks a day.
For February, my goal is to enjoy alcohol only 1-2x a week, so no more than 8 drinking days. I started off Feb with my birthday weekend (yes, my "birthday" indulgences lasted 4 days). Over the weekend I bought my kids a pony. This has been a long dream of mine, and I wanted to celebrate with a glass of champagne. I love horses and we do live on a horse farm, so it's not exactly a HUGE deal, but it was really hard to find the right pony and I'd been looking for over a year. So bam- champagne justified. I'm now going to chill out.
Feb 1: 2 drinks (2 glasses of wine, birthday hotel weekend away!)
Feb 2: 1 drink (1 glass of champagne, celebrating the fact that I bought my kids a pony).
Feb 3-4: AF (2 days)
So far in Feb: 2/4 AF days5 -

Good Morning! Trying desperately to cut down on some of the stress going on right now. I was offered a new, different position at work yesterday, and truthfully, I don’t know if I am up for the challenge. We put an offer in on some land, and the logistics don’t work well with the finances (we would need to sell our house first, then build...requiring two moves). I hate to give in, but I truly think that just isn’t in the cards.
All of these things would normally be thought about with a glass or two of wine. And I didn’t. And stayed under my calorie intake.
So cheers to 3/5 AF days.8 -

Daily note: I've noticed since I've stopped drinking daily, my mood has improved. I feel more upbeat & energetic these days! I think this, along with the vitamin B-12, Omega 3 and Maca Root supplements I started taking last week, is really helping me through the "winter blues" this year. I live in Washington and it's been a rainy January. Even for us!! We had 29 consecutive days for rain

6 - AF. This wasn’t guaranteed. I had a drinks reception/networking event after work. I set my alarm for 5.30am for tomorrow’s workout to focus the mind before going. There was still danger though, i’m a sucker for free wine. I got there and it was a cash bar. Danger averted! Not least because even the soft drinks were about £6 so I dread to think how much the alcoholic ones were. I stayed for a while and talked to the people I needed to speak to, and i’m now on the bus home7 -
I'm venting here as a sober bystander as my husband and his brother get fall down drunk for 2-3 days next week (Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday). I now know the fantastic plans they've made. This is in no way a trigger; this is an annoyance that I am dreading because they're going to be on my nerves. I hope y'all don't mind if I vent...8

Vent away! I'm lucky that my OH drinks less than I do as I can imagine how annoying that will be.5

@LoveyChar venting is highly encouraged. Maybe you could send them both away from where ever it is you are so you do not have to be subjected. I feel your pain.6 -
Today is a snow day to which I am catching up on paperwork and such. I came across two old calenders that I kept track of my A or AF days in 2018 and 2019. Glancing back over them I found myself thinking how disappointed I was with many of the drinks I had. (Yes I wrote down what kind of alcohol I drank at that moment)
Here is what I have concluded. I do not like the taste of many kinds of alcohol since becoming a less alcohol participant. Especially vodka. I used to think I enjoyed vodka, like when I ordered chocolate martinis or lemon drop martins. Now the thought of vodka makes me ill. I also have to put a lot of thought into what I am going to drink when I give up an AF day. I want to make sure it is not booze in haste. It has to be worth me giving up an AF on my calender. There is nothing worse than getting to the point where you calculate and plan for a drink and it is horrible. When in doubt I will always choose a glass of prosecco.
Gawd....who is this changed person writing this? Lol

@MissMay my tastes in alcohol have changed over the last few years, too. I suddenly found myself not really liking beer anymore, when I was really into these strong and bitter IPAs for the longest time. I'm not sure if it's related to age or attempts to drink less. I also suddenly like bourbon, too, when I always hated it. The flavor has grown on me! Aack- I guess I am going the other way- towards the hard stuff. All the more reason to drink less I suppose. But oh yes- prosecco is definitely one of my faves.
I had another AF evening last night, but it was hard. I REALLY wanted a glass of wine. Just as I was putting the kids to bed and finishing up the dishes, we ran out of water. It was dark and rainy and we thought the well pump had broken. It was a bit stressful. I also didn't get a shower when I needed one. I thought a glass of wine would cure everything, but I remembered my AF commitment. I had some chamomile tea and it was not the same, but I'm proud of myself.

Feb 2: 1 drink (1 glass of champagne, celebrating the fact that I bought my kids a pony).

5/6 AF days for me! It’s easier this month- maybe because so far I only went out to dinner once!5
-
Checking in! Ended Jan as I predicted with 12 AF days.
so far in Feb 3/6 days AF after superbowl weekend (YEAH CHIEFS!) and a mid week Blues game, another one coming up on Saturday! This is a great sports week for me!
I also had a planned work trip get cancelled so Feb isn’t shaping up to have too many non-standard events. Aiming for 14-16 AF days this month.5 -

Looks like my planned scheduled drink night tonight is cancelled because of predicted bad weather.
That 👼 on our shoulders works in mysterious ways.
Not a big deal.8 -
Snow day today, on my day off 😂. We are cutting down on extra expenses, so no random alcohol purchases have happened in the last week, making it so much easier to say 4/6 days AF. Access is a lot of it, since I tend to drink at home in the evening as a way to relax. I really like what @MissMay and others say about planning your drinks. If it is cheap or tastes bad, probably not worth the calories, money and AF day.

Went to the pub with the hubby this evening and stuck to my club soda & lime. Go me!!! Day 2 of 60 AF!6
