Less Alcohol - FEBRUARY 2020 - One Day at a Time

Happy Monday. Checking in
1/2 days AF7 -
Good morning everyone.
My over all less drinking goals for this month are
NOT to drink daily
NOT to drink more than two when I do participate
NOT to drink because of a stressful situation
I do have planned evening events out twice this month. I have already thought how to stretch one craft beer over a several hour period. The other event is a late night birthday surprise party at a reastraunt. Never a good idea to start drinking alcohol after 8:00pm so that will more than likely be a dry night.
Oh and of course Valentines Day......my hubby bought a special bottle of prosecco for this past NYE that I never popped open.. I heard him say that bottle was still in the frig more than once in the past 30 days. 😎
Have a successful week without stress.10 -

You just did! Welcome!3 -
I was tempted to have wine watching the Super Bowl last night, but asked myself “why?” I was all alone (hubby on business trip), I don’t even follow football, so why the big pull to drink? It’s amazing how strong our culture is! Like you can’t possibly enjoy the super bowl unless you’re partying. Kinda fun to turn that on it’s head!7

@LoveyChar the commercials aren’t what they used to be, that’s for sure.5

Happy February! I didn't have any alcohol on Saturday, but did have some wine yesterday evening (and over ate to boot). Not hungover, but still full. Not a fun feeling.
My goal this month is more AF days than not. I was traveling for work last week and I don't think there is anything harder to overcome than eating dinner with coworkers. I gave in, and it wasn't worth it. But it's a new day, a new month and a new time to start fresh. Got my water and coffee with me today!
1/2 AF days for February10 -

I agree. And I agree that it's ridiculous how we can't watch a stupid football game on TV without getting drunk. Husband said last night how boring it was here for the Super Bowl and next year he's inviting people over. Nobody stopped him to begin with. I'm glad you didn't waste your wine on such a goofy "festivity."8 -
A good beginning to this new chapter of drinking less in my life. I have not gone drinking with my buddies after work or after working out. After working out always bothered me. I am cutting way back at home. Not buying a 30 pack of beer to save money. Started buying the 12 pack and making it last longer. Yes it is about the money to.
Yesterday ENJOYED watching the game. Yeah the commercials were lame and have been for many many years. DId take notice of how many alcohol related ones there were, only because someone yesterday mentioned it.

Sorry, long post! This past Saturday I went to the funeral of my husband's aunt. She unfortunately passed away due to alcohol poisoning from a lifetime of heavy drinking. The minister briefly spoke about addiction and how it can ruin lives and while I agree with that, I'm not sure that is something I would put in a speech about a person's life. My husband's family owns a bar, and the dinner after the funeral service was held there, which I think was pretty odd given the circumstances!
I tried my best not to drink myself, but being in a crowded room not knowing too many people, I was filled with my usual anxiety so I caved and had three drinks over the course of the night. I'm not too disappointed that I ruined my 30+ day AF streak because I knew it'd happen at some point. But I didn't even enjoy the drinks that I had! They made me a little nauseous and I was pretty drunk from just those three drinks. People were passing around jello shots and I refused and I was offered several more drinks after that but I was done. My husband, who had at least twice as much to drink as I did wanted to stay longer, but at 11:00, his mom was tired and wanted to leave (we had an hour drive home and she was the DD). We stopped at a gas station because my husband just had to get more beer. He gave me one but I didn't even open it.
Even though I drank I'm kind of proud of myself because I only had three in a situation where I'd normally drink six or eight! And looking ahead to this weekend, I do not want to drink at all.15 -

Nice job on the 30 AF days! And that does seem like such a bizarre situation to discuss addiction. Correct if I'm wrong, but shouldn't funerals be about focusing on the positive, the good, the love that someone brought to life? If it was a fat person, the minister would not talk about how food or food addiction ruins people's lives. People get on their high horses, unfortunately. It's so stupid... And it takes away from the deceased...
The minister or the family could address addiction outside of the service. I think what he did was ignorant and I'm perturbed just reading it.
Good for you for having a DD and only 3 drinks, though!

As usual, I am going to try for 16-20 AF days for the month.
Short month, so this might be challenging.
I had 18AF days for January
Saturday February 1 - AF - Superbowl party tomorrow (yes, we Canadians love it too) so not planning to be AF. I am planning to intersperse glasses of water between drinks, and I have 1 cold no-alcohol beer to take with me to the party.
Sunday February 2 - Drinks and too much fattening food.
Running tally - 1AF day out of 2 days so far3 -

Also it's always great to show the American folks how good the SHL is compared to the NHL

Oh my! Glad to see a hockey fan. Haha, I won't try to fight you, but the best players from all over the world are in the NHL. Have you seen a live NHL game? I haven't seen any Swedish Elite League games in person, but would like to. Lots of great players come from Sweden, Peter Forsberg is one of my favourites of all time.
Larger ice surface right?

Well I'd never argue Hockey with a Canadian as there's no winning that one LOL
I was joking about the SHL of course. It's not a patch on the NHL.
Forsberg was a great player and by coincidence I've been to quite a few Avalanche games as I used to work for a company out of Denver!3 -

Fabulous! I saw a game in Denver when Forsberg, Sakic, Foote, etc. were all playing for the Avs. So great.0 -

2019 was a horrible year for me and I formed a terribly, unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I resorted to alcohol as a form of stress relief and relaxation. I’m committing to 60 days AF as of tomorrow in efforts to form better, healthier habits to deal with stress. Wish this wine loving lady Luck!15

Old habit: 1-4 drinks/evening.

2/3 days AF for February!
Some days are rougher than others. Yesterday had all of the triggers...eating out, dog made a mess, long day at work, you get the picture. But I wasn't even tempted, even though I have open wine in the fridge from Sunday (say one full glass, but still).8 -

Monday February 3 - AF - Felt a bit rough this morning until I had my lemon water.
Tuesday February 4 - AF - It is my designated drinks day, but I also am trying to have 2AF days in a row in between, so abstained.
Also my crazy 12-14 hours Tuesday workdays have slowed down considerably into a more normal range.
I put on a whopping 3 pounds from Superbowl, and at usually only losing about 1/2 pound per month I need all of the calorie cutting that I can get, including alcohol and the snacks that accompany it so that it doesn't take me 6 months to take off what a bunch of chicken wings and beer put on in one day.
Running tally - 3AF day out of 4 days so far7 -
Hi all!
3/4 days AF
Sleep has been challenging this week, and when I’m tired, I have a harder time saying no to food and drink. Knowing I’m checking in here helps.

Welcome to all of our new folks, sorry if I have been neglect in giving a greeting to you. There is something funky going on with getting to the community forums lately on my computer. 😠
As it happens, there is always a big rush to try and make new changes with each new year as on the January thread. Not meeting the goal you set out for should not discourage anyone from keeping on track OR deter you from wanting to make better choices with alcohol. Over time, spread out with moderation, works wonders for so many.
So if you tried January and it did not go as you had planned, do not give up. Rome was not built in a day.
Happy mid-week

Feb 4 - 4 glasses of wine
DH wanted to pick up a bottle of wine to go with the fish tonight ... instead he came home with 2 bottles. Needless to say both were opened last night. Up early and feeling sluggish ... remember this. You do not need to keep refilling your wine glass! Get some water in-between drinks!10 -
Well, I finished the wine last night that was leftover in the fridge from the Superbowl. It was only two glasses, and I followed it up with a health(ier) dinner and a bottle of water from my Soda Stream (one bottle is almost a full quart).
I don't feel bad this morning, which is good, and didn't sleep too bad. I had a pinched nerve all day yesterday that finally relented a bit overnight, so I am not really feeling guilty about the wine.
So I am at a 2/4 days AF for February. Wednesdays are my crazy kid activity day, so no time for that today!
@Lilylady3k you are exactly right. I had to tell myself I didn't need (or really want) anymore and switched to the SodaStream. That really has been a great tool in drinking more water and a great replacement for just about any beverage (other than coffee...nothing will replace my cuppa )7
