I need to spread my wings and venture out there. Haven't run very many places but nicest was by the lake in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. It was not breathtaking, but it was still nicer than most of my runs. I usually run down the road or through neighborhoods. I do occasionally run a pretty trail close to here. Now, I'm thinking of one other place... There's a park down the street that has crazy wildflowers in the spring and it's just a little park but it's pretty.
@mbaker566 no wonder you love running there...5 -
Does listening to zombies run mean listening to heavy metal?0

I love seeing the pictures and reading about where you all love to run!
@mbaker566 - Those pictures are awesome! I hope one day to get to Olympic Park in WA. My daughter lives in Seattle and while I have been there many times I have never made it over to the peninsula. Someone in one of our previous challenges posted pictures of places in WA she ran (Spokane maybe?) and it was gorgeous.
@bearly63 - Funny I live in So. CA and rarely go to the beach to run unless we take the pup to the dog beach or we are traveling somewhere in the state.
When I ran the National Mall in DC it was just so cool to run in this beautiful place with so many historic, important buildings and monuments all around!5 -
@bearly63 I'm not flexible either. Growing up, though, I was the most flexible person ever. I could do a bridge and stick my head between my legs and it wouldn't even phase me or I could do a split and lay my upper body flat on the floor at the same time. Those days are long, long gone. I'm just happy to be able to touch my toes now.
When I was running, there were people walking like right off the get go. What I'm saying is that you could run/walk or just work your way up to a good, solid run. I have no idea if you've ever done it before, but the whole experience was really fun. It really was...but if you're going to do it, you may want to register now, but no later than tomorrow. I don't know how much price will increase, but I like saving money when and where I can.
It's nice to have the same or a similar goal with your spouse. When my husband told me on Monday that he was going to run it, I seriously thought he was kidding. He can be a jokester. But no joke, his bib will read 'Fat Boy.' He's buying running shoes tonight. It's awesome to see him get excited about something healthy. His brother is trying to run a marathon in every state and his dad has done that many times over. I told him if he ever wanted to do it, I'd support him. He said, "no thanks, my dad's had two knee surgeries and he'll probably need a new hip. I'm good." Haha, and yes it's running wear and tear but even if it slows his dad down, it won't stop him. Crazy crazy.2 -

Nope, it is an app that some people use while running:
https://zombiesrungame.com
I have never used it, but some people really enjoy it. Turns running into a game of sorts.1 -

I'd go crazy. But interesting...1 -
@shanaber
totally get it. If you live there, it can be more of a hassle. We left So.Cal in 1988 with the promise of a quick grad school stop in Philly for my spouse. And never went back.....He's since dragged me to CT, CO and finally, ATX. But we love heading to CA to visit friends and family and the Pacific!
@LoveyChar
You know....I just might sign up for the half. I know I can run at least 8-10 of it if I can stay healthy. As for running with your spouse, we started making Sunday morning runs our "couples" time when our kids left for college. We get up early on Sundays in the summer, run (not together as he is faster), meet back at Barton Springs, jump in the 70 degree water and then head to breakfast! A great way to reconnect! Good for your husband to commit!6 -
My husband is amusing me, very happy for him to be so excited about something positive. But two weeks ago the last thing on his mind would be to run anywhere, not even to walk to the mailbox. He goes to my Marathon and now he's signed up for next year and has a year long training plan. He bought shoes and he's getting a Garmin. He just texted me to see if he could register for the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. He's on full speed turbo excitement. I'm laughing, wouldn't say no to any of it but he goes from nothing to full blast on.7

I happened to be in NYC in April one year and discovered I would be there the same weekend as the Women's Half Marathon in Central Park so I signed up and ran it. I think I know the hill you are referencing! The best part was some stranger holding a sign that read "It's a hill - get over it"!

Monthly question:
1. Holmes County, Ohio. Heart of Amish Country. Nothing like having a horse and buggy pass you. The downside is it's all either uphill or downhill, nothing is flat.
2. Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Our hotel is close enough that I can run to the falls and in the park adjacent to them. Had the whole place to myself mostly. Only me and the park workers.8 -

@LoveyChar I love this. You're an inspiration.2 -
Monthly Question:
I haven't run in enough different places, but from my experiences, I'll say I prefer the trails. Much more solitude and beauty in my humble opinion.5 -
2/1 – 8.51 miles
2/3 – 5.13 miles
2/5 – 5.09 miles
2/7 – 5.01 miles
2/9 – 9.01 miles
2/10 – 5.04 miles
2/11 – 5.32 miles
2/13 – 5.14 miles
2/15 – 10 miles
2/17 – 5.44 miles
2/19 – 5.01 miles
68.70 miles to date/90 miles goal
I got in 5 miles before work this morning. Temp read 37F but it felt more like 47F. I think I was over dressed. At lunch I made it to a 30-minute stretch class which felt great especially after yesterday’s lower body class which I’m feeling today!
Monthly question – so hard to decide. After I read everyone’s responses I immediately think of similar lovely places. I loved running in Scotland last year when I visited because it gave me a chance to get out and explore the countryside and the city on my own and just soak up the scenery. I also loved running in West Palm Beach last week because of the ocean views, breeze and the lakeside trail.
Welcome back @hanlonsk! Glad you are back on the wagon!

2/19 - 8 miles!!!!!!
Monthly total - 48.82 miles (3 miles behind)
This was my first 8 mile run!!! I feel like a big girl now LOL. Sadly it was on a treadmill as I didn't plan on running this far today but the opportunity popped up to start work a little late so I took it. Since it wasn't planned, I ran it fasted and ran out of gas at round the 5th mile but I was determined to get it all done. My hip flexor is a little sore right now so I am looking forward to a nice foam roll later tonight when I get home.
A weird thing happened today that I wanted to pick your collective brains about please. At mile 6 or 7, I got the goosebumps and then the chills. This has never happened before while I was at the gym. Usually I am way to hot and I was soaking wet when I finished. I did drink almost 2 - 32oz bottles of water while I was running but that's all I had since last night. Is this normal or something I should worry about?

Monthly question: any time I get to run near water.
I went to San Francisco while training for my first half. I ran down to the wharf for all my runs while there. In Chicago when I was training for a marathon that never happened (this was attempt #4 when I fell apart because my dog then dad died) I would run down to the lake front and run along it.
I don't think I ran in Hawaii. My half marathon last year took me along the Mississippi river at the end.6 -

I’ve had that before near the end of a run. I put it down to fatigue and possibly low blood sugar. It doesn’t happen often enough for me to get worried about, but if it persists for you, talk to your GP.5 -

I went to the doctor this morning for the pain in my toes. She didn't think it was anything to worry about, but I was glad I got it checked out. She said it was probably a little bit of overuse and maybe the way I am landing on my feet and also most of the roads in our town are really bad with potholes filled with gravel and rock. So she suggested that I try to vary my routine some so that I am not always running the same roads in the same direction. I do tend to do that a lot, partially because I run most of my runs early when it is still dark out so I pick the well lit route and also because I know where most of the dogs on my routes are and they usually don't surprise me. But I am going to try to vary it some. Maybe now that it is starting to get light a little earlier I can change it up a bit. Plus I do have my noxgear vest. I have 12 weeks until my HM so I think I am going to try the Hal Higdon HM3 plan. It seems to line up with my running schedule pretty well. I know that I've gotten bad about just running the same runs every day, week in week out. I have to admit that I like my little rut, but it would be good for me to add a little variety, and also to remember to add in some cutback weeks too. So I am going to try. I did get out and run today at lunch for 2.6 miles. It was a pretty nice run and I didn't have any pain in my toes so that was good. I don't know if I will run tomorrow or not. It is supposed to be raining in the morning, so I may run at lunch. But I may also just take another day off. I won't make my goal for February, but that is ok. I am still on track to make my goal for the year and the HM in May is more important to me than the February goal, so I am counting this week as a cutback week before starting the HH plan next week. The plan only has 3 days of running and 2 days of cross training, but it does say that if you want to run a 4th day to do it on the Wednesday XT day so that is my plan.

@Contrary_MaryMary - Thank you! I was hoping it was something easy like that. I am into unknown territory now so a little nerve racking for me.0
