Pandemic just means it's in lots of countries worldwide. We knew that already.

I got over my fear and went to the gym. Same as it ever was except the equipment wiping is more thorough. I don't know why I was nervous. There aren't any confirmed cases yet in DE. I feel silly - what did I expect to see? Hazmat warnings?
Annie in Delaware7 -
Oh Annie - 2 minutes ago they just posted that you have your 1st case. I was just reading it then read your post. Good news is he’s healthy enough age 50yrs to self hone quarantine . He 🧳 travelled to another state got it .Hoping it’s wrong https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/coronavirus/delaware-coronavirus-positive-test/2322213/

Took the water aerobics class. Boy, have I missed that class while in FL. They don’t have their outdoor pool heated so all the water classes are suspended for the winter. Actually, as I recall the classes are at 9:00 and I just find that that’s too late for me. I like to get my workout in and over with. The plan for tomorrow is to do a One-on-One training with Jackie DVD (another new one)
Amber – congrats on the weight loss. JR is a real cutie
Welcome everyone new!
Kiwibowler – are you from Australia? What’s the significance behind your name?
Kylia – at the top of my food list is a drop down menu with default and name. Whenever I click on either one nothing changes, everything is still non-alphabetical.
KJ – I’m thinking about PJ’s birthday. What toys would you suggest for a 1-1/2yo? I already got him a plastic truck with a tool kit on it and another plastic truck but I forget what is on it (not tools), mainly because they were $20 toys that I got for $8.
Jess just called. Seems Iowa State is having a meeting tomorrow night discussing the possibility of all the classes being online. She said “if all the classes are online, I’m coming home where I can eat for free”….lol I don’t know how they’re going to address the issue of surgeries. Yesterday she neutered a cat… Seems now North Carolina is under a state of emergency. Sometimes I think we’re going a bit too far.
Texted Denise to tell her we’ll be there the weekend of PJ’s birthday since she’s taking that Monday off and that we’ll be up there Labor Day weekend. I know that she’d like to go down the shore that weekend, but it just doesn’t make any sense for us to drive 18hours for one day. She mentioned about having PJ's baptism the weekend before Labor Day since "people want to go down the shore". Well, if she has it then, we just won't be there...that's all. Not the end of the world
Talking about disinfecting everything…maybe Sheldon Cooper was onto something….remember as a child he always wore gloves so he didn’t have to touch someone else’s hand?????
Terri – good luck to your hubby
Don’t ask me to explain this, but previously with Aetna I had home delivery. Well, I’m no longer on Aetna thru Vince’s employer. It just happens that my part D is thru Aetna. Well, the orders for prescriptions that they had on file, they filled one of them. I never asked them to, THEY contacted the md for a refill. It took us over an hour to finally get authorization for a “one time” return. Well, Aetna wouldn’t have paid them, and we have no intention of paying them. This guy went on and on about how it was MY responsibility to inform them that I wasn’t covered thru Mars. I don’t think so….. Mars hasn’t charged us premiums (natch) so, of course, I assumed they informed the correct people.
Vince is at a GOP meeting, he just called to tell me that I should go on to ceramics and he’ll meet me there.
I called my neurologist and explained what the situation was. Get this…it will take CVS/Caremark 3 to 5 business days to send me the email with the return label. Three to five business days to send an email!!! Talk about efficiency! They’re going to call in an order for the lamictal to the local pharmacy. And Vince will call Aetna HR tomorrow to make sure they inform CVS Caremark that they’re no longer covering me.

Katla: Hope YOU and your car are both okay.
Amber: Happy birthday to your handsome boy. I understand how tired you must be. He looks like quite an energizer bunny. Does your Walmart have the online shopping option? I swear by it. I place order in evening, and pick up early in the morning, saving myself about 45 minutes from my usual weekly shopping. I think the 'pickers' they hire can actually shop from the back of the store if what you ordered is not on the shelves at the time your order is being fulfilled.
Allie: Did the doctor give other departing employees a good-bye dinner? I'd be suspicious about his sudden sweetness. Excited that you have a final countdown started. Onward!
Colorado has declared a state of emergency and our Governor says that Denver will soon set up a drive-thru virus test site.
DH has been back to his Vets Club two more times. On Friday, there were about 60 people in the room. Most look more fragile (or tired?) than him and many of the men have some kind of mobility issue that requires a cane, walker or wheel-chair. The average age is 68, and DH is 75. On Tuesday, the crowd was much thinner, and I am assuming some of the more delicate seniors were being kept at home to avoid potential exposure to COVID-19. I think he benefits from getting out, even just the 20 minute drive to the center, so for now, I will continue to try to keep him involved with day care. They are implementing all the recommended practices to keep the participants safe and healthy.
Had a little extra drama today...DH was outside our patio minding Mars, the Leash-Loving cat who was sunning himself on the ground. I left them alone for 5 minutes to brush my teeth, and the cat squirmed out of his leash, and ran away from DH. And, of course given his memory is so porous, DH couldn't articulate what happened or where he last saw Mars. For 3 hours, I was a bitter, angry mess. By noon, I knew Mars would be wanting his lunch, so by walking outside jiggling his kibble bowl, I hoped he'd pop out of wherever he was hiding. Turned out, a lovely couple living a block down and across the street had invited our little social feline inside their place and safe from coyotes that roam around here. They were about to call their daughter, a vet, to see if she could scan for an I.D. chip. They saw me outside calling and clinking kibble, and came out to let me know they had the cat. They don't have pets themselves, so enjoyed having him for a few hours. 😸 Happy ending, and my serenity is restored.
Time to put on a smile and try to make this a productive day. Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Machka: The year of uncertainty seems like an appropriate statement so far.
Allie: How is the job search going?
Pip: Things are going to be okay. My health is fine, although I have felt a significant load of stress. My car will be in the shop as soon as they squeeze it into the schedule. My insurance company is taking care of the situation with the State of Oregon and will cover repair bills once there is an opening at the repair shop.
Debby in VA: I would also worry in your situation. This is stressful and ugly for us all.
Amber: Thanks for the corona virus video. It is the best information I’ve received anywhere so far. :flowerforyou:
Rori: Thanks for your good wishes. I am okay. My car will eventually be okay. It is still drivable. The body shop has a long work list and will let me know when it is my turn. :flowerforyou: I am glad that your DH has had benefits from his visits with the VA center.
I find myself thinking about the black death plague, also called the Great Bubonic Plague, that occurred in 1347. This is almost as scary BUT we have better communication and better health practices and medicines than they did. We have an array of medicines to fight symptoms. I hope this epidemic will turn out well for the vast majority of people living today.

Rori Excruciating 3 hours for you while Mars the Leash-Loving Cat was being pampered by your lovely neighbors. Having gone through it before, I have the utmost empathy. Sheer agony.
Katla Glad you are OK. We were a little worried about you.
Karen in Virginia3 -
I was worried, too. The owner of the car that hit mine’s insurance company called looking for money from us. His car hit mine, so that was stressful. That caused me to check with my insurance company for a second time. At this time the State of Oregon has been notified & my insurance company is in my corner. They will cover my repairs.7

Happy March! t
Thank you Barbie for starting us in the new month.
KatlaI had an unfortunate trip to Safeway and was involved in a fender bender in the parking lot. The driver of the other car backed into me. I have good photos of the damage to my car and the evident lack of visible damage to the other car. I have been notified that someone wants to sue me for their car damages. I went to my insurance company and they helped me fill out a traffic report for the DMV. She faxed it in right away and they have it now.
The same night as the parking lot fender-bender, DH had a medical problem that needed help from the paramedics. They were brilliant at helping and he is doing fine thanks to their help.
Between the two events, I ended up more than a bit stressed and rattled. Now we wait for the next step for the car repair. I have quite a bit of damage where the other car dented mine that will have to be done in a body shop & we are waiting our turn for the work to be done. My car is still drivable while I wait for my turn for repair.

It might be worth going and having a chat to your GP ... just talk to her about how you feel when you're stressed.

How many times a day do you touch your face?
The health advice includes washing hands with soap frequently throughout the day and avoiding touching your face.
When I hear that my first thought was, "That's OK, I hardly ever touch my face" ...
Then I started paying attention to it, and it's like my hands are glued to my face!! Rubbing my itchy, sore eyes. Checking my broken tooth. Scratching my itchy nose. Brushing my hair out of my face. Pushing my glasses up.
I'm trying to really focus on not touching! And I might need to start wearing my hair back.
Oh, speaking of hair, I've started washing it 6 days a week instead of just 5 and I might go to 7. I'm also debating about having about 6-8 inches lopped off the bottom. I can almost sit on it now. It's possible it might be healthier to have it slightly shorter.

Every time I go out in public now, I feel a need to touch my face! Maddening!

I also find I lean my chin on my hand when I'm working.

Hi both, yep a kiwi from Southern NZ. I'm also a lawn bowls player so in place of other inspiration that's my user name.
My goal with being here is to get back to 68kg (from 75kg) before August and my 50th birthday. Unfortunately my body REALLY wants to keep that extra 7kg after I lost 8 kg hard and fast when ill back in 2015.
Hence being here when I'm not usually a joiner :-)

Well, actually ...
When I arrive at work after my bus trip in, I wash my hands with soap.
When I come back from my lunch walk, I wash my hands with soap.
When I return home from work, after my bus trip home, I take off just about everything and put it into my laundry basket ... and change into something else. Then I wash my hands with soap. Sometimes I wash my face too ... I'll probably start doing that more frequently. I am debating what to do about my hair.
I've started doing laundry more frequently. I used to wait till the basket was quite full - about 10 days. I've shortened that to a week, but I might shorten it even further.
We've only had 3 cases here in Tas, but 2 didn't self-isolated when they should have, and 1 went out partying at a popular pub and worked several shifts at one of the largest hotels. So now the spread will begin. And I'm in a vulnerable position what with going to university, riding the buses, and even where I work.

Katla- some of your posts have just seemed out of place or repeated. Glad to see a different one so that we know you are okay. Glad your insurance company is in your corner.
Well, it has happened....if you run out of toilet paper in our community, you have to resort to paper towels, napkins , or a shower. None of the groceries, warehouse clubs, drug stores, hardware stores, or quickly marts have any. Grumble!I yelled at my MIL this morning......She said she wouldn't take the medicine because it lists 40 side effects and if she got just one it would kill her....RRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! She had a uti in December , didn't take meds. Back to Dr in February, yep uti still there! Did she take the medicine-NOPE! I told her if she liked being nauseous then don't take the nausea medicine, but she needed to take the F@@!ING antibiotic! She is on cipro this time. If she doesn't take that she will end up in the hospital. She has only ever been in the hospital to birth her 2 children. This is a healthy 75 yo woman! You would think if she can look up side effects of the drug, she could look up complications of a uti. I tried to print but didn't work
Anyways, sorry, rant over. I managed to complete 2 small tasks at work today. 5 more that need done. Going to do what work I can on those tonight after eBay for husband, pay bills, and clean up kitchen from dinner. Is it bedtime yet?

Two of our company events were cancelled or postponed today. The NCAA basketball tourney will be played without public participation. Both Coachella and Stagecoach (2 big music festivals in California) were cancelled. I think my rockabilly festival will be cancelled too. They suspended ticket sales today. I was looking forward to it.
I read (Time magazine) that according to WHO guidelines, a pandemic means it spreads quickly...not necessarily how many infections or deaths are related. That's why the WHO declared COVID 19 a pandemic.
Machka -- I went to a new hair stylist recently who recommended not washing hair every day. I needed to train my hair. So, I've been doing that the last few weeks and I have to say, it works. I even haven't been washing it after hot runs. I just dry it and spray dry shampoo in it. The most I have gone was 3 days. I did use a lot of dry shampoo. I have heard this many times before. It's because every time you wash your hair, you strip the oils and it becomes weaker and breaks. Mine does look better already.
I do read this thread daily (multiple times actually, because you all have a lot to say), but every time I feel I can contribute, someone else...or multiple people....beat me to it.
Hugs to those in need.

Stay safe, everyone.
>>>
Terri I only go to those extremes after work. Crocs go in washing machine, too. Otherwise I just wash my hands thoroughly when I get home from doing chores. I trained myself not to touch my face in public because I'm so hyperaware of transmission of pathogens at work. I'm not so disciplined at home, I'll admit. Itchy eyes, itchy nose, chin hair…my fingers go there when I'm home. Not great.

WHO's delay in calling the novel coronavirus worldwide epidemic a pandemic had to do with one criteria about whether it could be contained or not. WHO determined it was not being successfully contained, so declared it a pandemic.6
