Aw, thank you @hamsterwheel6. You are pretty amazing yourself going out to race your own HM. Good luck!
Thank you also @quilteryoyo and @teresa502.
@MegaMooseEsq I'm sorry to hear about your struggles and I hope that things will work out for you with the leave. Best wishes in your treatment. And great job with your running and other workouts this month!
@bearly63 glad to hear your son is doing ok. Definitely good advice NOT to exercise right now! Hope he listens.
@PastorVincent the stores here have seemed very orderly too when I've been out. No toilet paper in stock at Target (I was not looking for it but heard someone who seemed shocked by this) and no hand sanitizer either, but everything else seemed reasonably available and the checkout system was very well managed to keep things clean and keep people apart.
Great job @hanlonsk! Exciting to see progress!
@Teresa502 nice job getting a HM in today! AWESOME!
@quilteryoyo you look good in your skort. I have friends who love them but I prefer shorts. There are some cute ones though.
@Avidkeo, that's a tough choice for the good of our family. I don't blame you for taking a work accomodation if it's available because being right there but not being able to touch your family would be hard. I wish you the best in getting through this. You are strong and sounds like you will make the best of it however you can.5 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »@Teresa502 Glad you had a good run and got your HM done! Bonus to get to run with friends! Thanks. Yes, that trail is in Greeneville, well, actually Tusculum. It's called the Tusculum Trail.
I got my new running skort in the mail yesterday. I hope to get to run in it next week and see how I like it. Another purchase may be on the horizon if I do. It's from Dona Jo Brand. I got it because it has big pockets in the undershorts where I can carry my phone and keys without fear of losing them. Does anyone else run in these? If so, what's your review?
This is super cute on you! I love the length.
Congrats on your long run the other day, you are rockin it!1 -
Ever wondered how many people look after someone in ICU? We've had our first death due to covid this morning.
As a result of the patients covid diagnosis, 21 staff were put on self isolation for 14 days. 21 staff.
That's why we worry.

We need the vaccine so that we can put an end to this.4 -

Hello, I dove off the running train when Costa Rica started closing things down. We heard that flights would soon be ending, packed, sold our car in one day, and flew back to Portland. Now, on our 5th day back my oldest has developed a fever and I am scared. I also don’t feel completely well, hoping it’s allergies and asthma. I enjoy checking in with everyone’s posts and I hope to be running again soon. I need to take a media break as it adds to my fear, but so hard not to check. I agree, we need the vaccine soon!12

So since I keep being a downer, here is a positive post - welll comparatively lol.
I have been on a baking binge the last few days. I made a rocky road slice that was nice, but needs some improvement (my slice pan is too big) and today I made hot Cross buns. I haven't made bread in ages (years) but wanted to try my dough hook on my mixer. Tested the yeast, and it still seemed to have life so went ahead.
I'm calling these a cross over easter/Christmas buns, because the fruit I used is from a fruit mince pie mix cause I didn't have any mixed peel. So has glaze cherries as well as the usual fruit mix.
I was really worried after the first rise. I gave it 2 hrs instead of the hr called for in the recipe. Then I seperate the buns into smaller portions than the recipe called for (16 instead of 10).
Ill put the progress in the spoiler, but OMG so good! They came out perfectly. Light, not stodgy, tasty. Yay!Guh they are out of order. Cannot be bothered fixing. I think you get the idea!
So what else can I make...8 -
@Avidkeo love the bread. I’ve never heard of it, seems almost like a fruit cake but edible! How about an apple challah next? Save me some if you make it. My bunch complains that I’m trying to make them fat when I make it and then I am the one who eats 85% of it. I have 3 over ripe bananas and a bag of walnuts if you want to make (me) some banana bread. 😉 I’m currently willing them to make themselves.
Sorry about the loss of the pt. 21 people is a beautiful testament to how we care for our sick and infirm.
To stay half way on topic her, Dh and I walked a bit today. I think it went well. Hip labral tear is the only complainer thus far.
Hey, anyone watch Young Sheldon ? I just saw a commercial for it. Seems like it’d be cute. Why can’t I think of that show.... you know the nerd show that got way less nerdy and I quit watchin’ it... with penny, and the doof... soft kitty something kitty little ball of fur... gah? Why do I wanna say third rock, and I know it’s not that show... thanks senior moment, have some more of my dignity. Its not like ibs got me earlier and I had to change my depends either.2 -

@Avidkeo those rolls look amazing!
I did manage to get out for 7 miles in the neighborhood. The run was slow and easy hitting all the cul de sacs and every bit of cracked/uneven sidewalk. But it felt good to just run and listen to podcasts along my way.
I’m toying with the idea of going to a trail run tomorrow put on by my run club. It’s not a group run at all. One of the leaders will be marking a 3 mile path early in the day through the trail and 3 separate tunnels in the area. He said that he’ll be dropping the markings for the path using baking flour. He promises no muddy trails and wide paths and scenic views. We are encouraged to run the route solo any time over the next few days and maintain social distance if others happen to be on the trail. I hadn’t planned to run tomorrow, but it sounds kind of fun. We shall see how the day goes...6 -

Good Lord yes that's it. Thank you.0 -
Oops never occurred to me you don't have hot Cross buns there lol.
Basically a sweet bread roll, with cinnamon, nutmeg and some spices, with raisins and/or currants. Served warm/toasted with butter.
Had to google apple challah. Mmmmm tasty and we have lots of apples atm! Always good for banana bread, though we prefer banana cake here lol. Mmmm best with a light lemon frosting

That looks lush @Avidkeo and I'm now regretting just finishing fruit and yogurt for breakfast!0

At the moment I have to move the cat bowls in order to use my squat rack, and move my pile of running shoes in order to use my stationary bike. So I do have sympathy for you and your pet avalanche-in-training!
I would definitely demand the other three family members pitch in!

Yum @Avidkeo -the hot cross buns look amazing! Understand your worries re the temporary loss of staff. You can see how unsustainable that is going to be...
@MegaMooseEsq - wishing you better
@pastorvincent - thunderstorm running does not sound fun, although probably poetically dramatic! Glad you managed to get back and hope you got your run rescheduled.
@quilteryoyo - Skort looks good! Still feels cold enough here for leggings unfortunately.
@TheMrWobbly - I think sorting that space out will count as your exercise for the next day or two at least! Had the same with my gardening yesterday. Four hours of hard graft and there’s still lots to do, but my garden wheelie is full and my back is sore so that’s all for this weekend.
I’m back from my early morning run. Even earlier for the body as British summertime started this morning and the clocks went forward. I’m still plugging away in the 3-4 miles range. I guess I could try and add to the distance now my fitness is improved but if I’m only allowed to go out for exercise once per day and my walking is reduced, I’d rather get in one short run every day than longer ones that are more spaced out. Today still felt like hard work as it was very windy - and not in the helpful direction as I went up a big hill!

I did go on the sites you and @Teresa502 suggested and I'm afraind I'm too cheap for them, though, no matter HOW cute they are.
I'm right there with you on the tree-trunk legs! They seem to run in my family - thanks genes. The skirts are pretty pricey but they last a long time. I've never had any luck finding any in stores other than running stores where they are just as expensive and have less of a selection. Skirt Sports is another brand that I forgot to mention and they are probably my favorite ones. They run specials frequently.
@emmamcgarity - your skirt looks nice also. Is it the Target brand?3 -

@Avidkeo Sounds like a good way to stay home, for now, and keep everyone safe. I pray you stay healthy and this passes soon. Thanks for what you are doing to help others get to go home to their families. Sorry to hear about the death in your hospital. Hugs to you. Those buns look really good.
@emmamcgarity That's a cute skirt. I think I'll really like running in one rather than shorts.
Thanks @rheddmobile !
@enaliba I hope you and your son are okay and it's just allergies or a cold.
@Elise4270 Glad you got a walk in and it wasn't too painful.
@TheMrWobbly Hahaha. I can see why you would vote "no." However, I would bet cleaning up that space has been on your to-do list for a while. This is a good incentive to get it done. I would declare cleaning up the space as "exercise" and demand everyone pitch in as their first work-out in the space they chose.
Thanks @Faebert . Great job on running consistently! Hopefully you'll be able to run further soon.

@Avidkeo Sorry to hear about your colleague. That bread made my stomach growl!
@quilteryoyo Cute skirt. I see people running in them but I still think I would be too hot with under shorts.
@TheMrWobbly I vote that you only get to use the space if you help make it
@emmamcgarity What a great idea - a trail run at the ready!
@enaliba Yikes. Hope your fam is all well. It is a scary time even for allergies.
@katharmonic I hope he listened too. He did snap chat me a picture of himself drinking a beer. Numnut.
Yesterday I just got on the bike and rode while listening to a fantastic Q&A from an NYC ICU Pulmonologist named Dr. David Price. Really informative and very calming, with good advice. Recommend if you or family is dealing with Covid. You can find it on You tube or vimeo.
Ended up going 20 miles....and basically I went numb....but my hip didn't hurt so that's a win!

I have a couple of cute running shorts from Skirt Sport but I wear them in the summer for going places and not for running. I prefer compression shorts or the Oiselle long roga shorts like these. They also have something they call a 'bum wrap' that you can wear over your own shorts. I think Gypsy also has something similar.
I find most all of the women's running clothes (that I prefer) are too expensive but I don't buy anything that isn't on sale or otherwise marked down.
@pastorvincent - the people at our stores have been pretty calm and respectful other than that one time initially where they were yelling at the staff at Costco. The problem here is lack of products - shelves are still pretty bare and I really don't want to drive around to multiple stores looking for things. I tried to do some shopping online but as others have found you can find things but can't get a delivery time.
@Avidkeo - those buns look delicious! My mom and grandma used to make them for Easter and a similar bread at Christmas. I am so sorry about the death in ICU and that all that staff has to be quarantined now. I am pretty sure they are not doing that here. The doctors and nurse just keep on working. It does look like they are finally starting to get more PPE. In CA companies that used to make clothing and even shoes are stepping up to make gowns and masks.
@bearly63 - I have listened to Dr. Price too he is great!
@TheMrWobbly - the transformation of your workout space is amazing! Want to come empty out some closets for me 😁5 -
This morning I did the Cardio Lit workout from MM100. After I was done, I put a long sleeve shirt on and went on a short run to cool off from the workout. The breeze felt nice and I was glad to be out before the rain started. When I finished the run, I did the stretching/yoga workout from MM100. I talked my daughter into doing that one with me, which was nice as it made it go by quicker. We were laughing at each other as we both had trouble with the balancing parts.
Thanks for the workout inspiration! After I got caught up reading here, I went to my Beachbody account with the purpose of starting a new series. Saw the MM100 and thought hey, I just read about that. So I did workout no. 1 this morning. It was a tough little cardio session.

I have run in thunderstorms before, even hail. Hail is the worst btw! But never on purpose. Many of my long runs are 3 and 4 hours long. If you put that much time in outside, sooner or later you will run in all the available weather types for your region.3 -
