@LoveyChar Love the double rainbow! It's interesting how it is darker in between them, like the top one is casting a shadow onto the bottom one, but it stops there.
Great news @kgirlhart !
@rheddmobile Your walk sounds wonderful! Glad you were able to do that and clear your head. Great run too. Hopefully your knee won't complain too much. I wish people would follow the rules. This thing would be over so much sooner if they would. I was out and about yesterday, out of necessity, and my estimate is that less than 5% of the people were wearing the recommended mask.
@Faebert Great run!
@eleanorhawkins I salute you for not stepping foot out of your home for 29 days. I don't think I could do it. I'm so glad that I live in a rural area where I have no fear of going outside.Sorry about your situation. I would assume if someone comes to your house to do testing that they would have some sort of identification. I would ask for that and then, if you still didn't feel comfortable, call the authorities that are sending them out and ask if they are legit or not. An alternative would be to step outside of your flat to have them do the testing so they aren't inside your home.

Very sorry @eleanorhawkins! My heart goes out to you and your family!! That is an extremely tough situation. Hope you win the lottery and they come (the real authorities) knocking on your door.0

Cloudy, low 30s F this morning, with a northwest wind at 15 - 25 MPH gusting occasionally to 35 MPH. It needed to be windy so it could blow the falling snow into my face. Knees and hips were stiff, but not particularly painful. As miserable as it was today, it was still nicer than yesterday.
@eleanorhawkins You're the glue that's held your family together all these years. You can keep it up for another month or two.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles

What I meant to do this morning: Wake up at 4:30 AM so I could run before my very early meeting.
What I did: Slept almost right until the meeting and then just went for a lunch time run.
I mean, they say sufficient sleep is important for the immune system, so we'll just say I did it for my health.

Just plugging along. Enjoying the biking but missing the runs. Maybe by May....
What's the old saying? "April showers bring May runs"....Sounds like a personal problem, don't ya think?
@kgirlhart Great news on your Aunt.
@LoveyChar Beautiful rainbows....I kept looking but didn't see any yesterday.
@quilteryoyo That is also good news!
@rheddmobile Racing riding lawn mowers? That's funny in a crazy sort of way....Doesn't sound that safe either but at least they have a mowed lawn I guess.....
@eleanorhawkins Sorry about your great aunt and the stress that this virus is bringing to your family. I agtee about the testing....would be great to see who has had it that never got tested. Peace of mind for sure.

Bit of a giggle for you today... I'm in agony.
Half naked pic in the spoiler, you have been warned.
My sports bra has finally reached the end of its life. It was a cold morning this morning and when I started noticing the pain, just under my arms around the back, I assumed it was due to cold. This started at around the 9k mark. But as I kept going, it got worse, and I realised the dredded chaffe had come on!
I haven't had chaffe in YEARS! I've never used body glide on this area because it was never a problem before
Got home, and omg it's so painful! I haven't even had a shower yet, nd I'm not looking forward to that! Just sitting here typing it's agony.
Advice? Tips? What do I do?
Bra is getting BURNED!
Oh, I still finished the 11.5k, nothing was getting in the way of that lol.5 -
@Avidkeo OUCH! Not a problem I ever have apart from during HM races, so I don't really know what to suggest. Vaseline maybe? Might at least protect it a bit from the inevitable sting in the shower if nothing else...
ETA: thanks to all of you who commented earlier. You brought a few tears to my eyes. Got through the day without eating absolutely everything in the house (I think there's an orange left). Tomorrow's another day. My husband said he might go and see if he can buy me an easter egg tomorrow to cheer me up. I must be depressed!
Hal wants a 5k race simulation out of me tomorrow. At a pace of between 6:25 and 7:05 min/km. Umm yeah, he's an optimist but I can safely say in advance that's highly unlikely! The hill repeats I did on Wednesday were not much faster than that pace, and I struggled to keep that up for 400 metres at a time.
However, I might need to feel I've earned the promised easter egg if it ever materialises. And I want to try a recipe for caramelised onion and cheese tartlets with cheese pastry tomorrow. Maybe I'd better try!

I do not know what works for others, but I shower and put the chaffing right into the water. It only hurts for a min or 2 then stops hurting completely. Works for me at least, no matter how sensitive the location. You can put vaseline on it until it heals to prevent further damage but that may stain your clothes. Beyond that, just need wait it out really.3 -

@noblsheep that is cool, good luck
@TheMrWobbly great Easter bunny meme
@PastorVincent your weather sounds like ours, it’s been 60s and 70s in the morning, today was 40
@kgirlhart glad to hear your Aunt’s test was negative woohoo
@Elise4270 I’m a so so gift buyer but I really do try to think about what the person would truly enjoy and perhaps not buy for themselves. If you DD is thinking about getting into the medical field that sounds like a great gift.
@eleanorhawkins I’m enjoying your Hal updates too
@shanaber it has rained so much here the past few months that my side yard that doesn’t get sun is still mud after 3 days or no rain, Macy has had 1,000 baths because she just lays in the mud in yard (under the trampoline there is no grass so it’s mud). Ugh
@Avidkeo sounds like you all are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Ouch on that chaffe
@quilteryoyo glad your cousin is improving, I’ve heard a lot of horrible things about the side effects of Chantix.
@katharmonic thanks, those silly dogs. We ran by this morning and it’s the first time ever they didn’t bark insane at us, they were like hey you’re our friend now ha ha
@LoveyChar beautiful rainbow picture
@rheddmobile sounds like your walk on the greenway was perfect
@eleanorhawkins don’t apologize, it’s a strange world to all of us right now and we all doing the best we can – I’m sorry about your great Aunt. I don’t think everyone realizes how hard this is for our young people, it’s scary for them, so much has changed and they have zero control. I think a lot of people are looking back at “colds” or other things they had a few months back wondering what it was now. I wouldn’t let a soul in my house to do a random test you just don’t know who it is.
@bearly63 I hear the new saying is April Distance bring May Existence

Woke up to 22F and snow! heh. Gotta love the weather, not much else you can do!5

Well said!

@PastorVincent yep it only stung for a moment in the shower. I put a little vasseline on it just for a bit of protection, as I kinda don't have a choice but to wear bras, and it's a lot less sore now, but still noticeable. Of all places to get it, grrr and sigh.
I knew that bra was coming to the end of its life but its so expensive - around $35usd - I definitely use them till I have no choice hahaha.4 -

I woke up to snow this morning, which was not a welcome sight. I slept in a little extra and then I ended up spending more time working than I hoped, I had planned to take a little breather this afternoon, but got caught up in a couple of meetings and various other things that took longer than expected. But I was dressed and ready to run at any point! Finally I decided to get out and do a trail run. The park I went to has some pretty challenging trails, very rocky and difficult footing, with some steep areas, and lots of mud. It has some less challenging ones too but I somehow chose wrong at every opportunity and ended up on pretty much all the harder ones. It was slow going and more of hike for many parts of it, but it was a good mental health break. I had to really focus on where I was stepping and not breaking an ankle rather than all the other crap in the world. I only saw one other person the whole time I was out there. Even though I was cold and didn't really want to go out there, I ended up enjoying changing it up from my usual runs.5 -
I was scheduled for a 45 minute run today but my hip/ITB is still sore from Tuesday’s running in circles - I powered through Wednesday’s and Thursday’s runs but it hurt, not so much during the run but after. Yesterday was a rest day and I did a lot of self massage and had a long hot bath and it was much better today but still not right. So I opted to be sensible and canned my run this morning, however, I needed to exercise as we're having pizza for dinner so I got my skipping rope out. 45 minutes of skipping later, my hip is happy and my calves are screaming 😂.10

Saturday morning run report, short, politically correct, family friendly version: (see spoiler for the rude, not p/c or f/f version)
Hal called for a 5k 'race simulation' today + warm up and cool down. I didn't think I would be able to manage the pace range he was demanding on the 'rather-be-deadmill' but of course I was willing to give it a go and surprised myself.
1.5km warm up at a nice gentle jog, then 4x 100 metres hard, 100 metres easy, then 5k 'race' then 1km cool down jog. The warm up seemed to take forever, the 100m intervals felt challenging enough. The actual 'race' bit was HARD and made even harder by the fact that I was watching a video tour of a medieval castle town so my brain really thought I was running though very narrow, cobbled passageways! Fun in a way.
Got it done, legs are likely to be sore tomorrow. My exciting Saturday evening is going to consist of yoga for tired legs, a hot bath with Epson salts, a piña colada and a bit of easter egg. No regrets!
The weird and wonderful things my brain did this morning (warning, not suitable for sensitive readers or children!)This may have been caused by the fact that my brain registered that whatever channel the husband was watching on TV this morning was advertising they're showing 50 shades of Grey tonight, or it may just be that lockdown has finally pushed my mind over the edge or something!
It dawned on me during the first few minutes of hard effort of the above-mentioned 'race simulation' that despite the fact he looks like a sweet little old man, I'm now in some kind of virtual S&M relationship with Hal Higdon. I am very much now his submissive, and he is (unwittingly!) my Master. 'This is going to hurt but it'll be good for you' his description of today's hard workout translated to in my poor deranged oxygen and sunshine-deprived brain. And it did hurt. Very much. But the fact that the old man/father figure/dominant master said 'well done' afterwards made it all better.
Sorry, back to p/c now! I must admit, as tough as it is feeling I am actually enjoying the variety Master Hal is bringing to my running. I have spent too long running more or less the same routes at more or less the same speed.
Rest day tomorrow, definitely much needed. Nothing but stretching.
Monday the plan calls for a 40 minute tempo run. Fun!

@eleanorhawkins OMG, your Hal relationship has gotten out of hand. LOL. Good for you on your 5k simulation race!1
-
@skippygirlsmom I'd like to be a part of the virtual run!! I'll sign up next Friday for sure I get paid every other week and I have to make sure we have enough funds to get us through until next payday, lol. And then if you haven't yet, you'll be able to tick Wisconsin off the list.
Yesterday I wasn't really feeling it. I had plenty of energy, I just wanted to be a lazy sack of potatoes and sit on the couch after work. I mustered up some motivation and decided to go anyway. Especially after I noticed my dog's new custom running harness came in the mail. She'll be so much more comfortable, and she finally matches her big brother and I was super excited to use it and show them both off. Because, you know, running is a fashion show, right?
Well, it ended up being our fastest pace basically ever. We usually go 3-4 miles and average 10-11 minutes per mile. We did just over a 5k and our average pace was 9:37! Our FIRST 5k in under 30 minutes
A picture of my bestest running buddies just because

Too many to catch up ok but I’m skimming.
@Tramboman i also love your sense of humor
@LoveyChar i love your rainbow and you are doing amazing!
@kgirlhart i am so sorry about your aunt and i hope she is on the upswing.
@eleanorhawkins you are amazing. My neighbor also has not left her house. Not even to come outside in her yard. She is young and healthy but her son is diabetic. I am building a community garden since they usually do their own but she can’t right now. We are trading goodies via our front porches. Oatmeal cream pies for beer, etc. it’s been great. I love them and I want their son healthy so I support them.
Looks like everybody is still pushing forward. Good.
Today is my 10K for The Uncanceled Project. I have to get up and get moving. Then Easter stuff.
Oiselle sent me an email about their team Volee but it’s $120 a year and you get an app, access to spend more money on their team Volee merch and a $40 gift card. They advertise community as well but I already have a running community here .... and they are expensive so the only time I spend money with them is if I am splurging. I wouldn’t be a good “team” member because I wouldn’t be consistent with my spend level rotfl. Plus I’m not sure I can manage MORE community rotfl
Waking up to the sound of my son playing roblox and my daughter who has apparently been up for many many hours before 7am is stressing me out ..... *sigh* one more cup of coffee then I’ll start getting ready to run this 10K6 -
@brittanystebbins95 great 5k with your super adorable running buddies. That new harness must be awesome!
@Camaramandy648 good luck on your 10k today! And I've heard some not so great things about Oiselle's Team Volee as a community (kind of elitist, snobby). Sounds to me like it's not worth the money but I suppose it's all what you are willing to put into it.

I wanted to get my long run over and done with early. I ran from my house into the state park on the trails, a little bit along the canal and then looped back home. My legs were heavy and my feet sore from yesterday's trail run so this felt pretty rough. I was hoping to get closer to 10 miles again but I didn't have it in me. But I'm glad to have it done. I'm at 18.4 miles for this week's marathon goal, so I just need 7.8 miles over the next 3 days (weeks start on Wednesday).
I saw in my facebook memories that a year ago I was running in San Diego. Looked way nicer than my run today.4 -
@brittanystebbins95 great job on your 5K with your pups!
@eleanorhawkins hang in there. You will get through this. We all will!!!
@ContraryMaryMary dang girl!!!!!!! Skipping rope for 45 minutes is harder than running a HM!! You are a beast!!!!
Got up early (for a Saturday) because last night's weather said 100% chance of rain by 10am. It was a beautiful 58F with a few clouds starting out. Thought I would get in a good 10 miles. But it was so nice, decided to try to turn it into a HM. But about mile 11 PF in right foot got bad enough where I couldn't ignore it much longer, so stopped at 12 miles to live another day.

Oh wow! 22 pages already! No way I will be able to catch up at this moment, in the home stretch for this semester of school, 4 classes, last chapters of work and finals coming up. But, at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with that at least, then I get to find out what everyone else has been posting about: naps all day, endless Netflix binges, time to knit all day....
But for now, time to post my efforts this month, as meager as they may be. I decided to move my Virtual ASPCA "race" date to the week before the projected HM training start. I still plan to go ahead with that training, hopefully races in August will still be a go.
GOAL: Run 2-3 times a week, virtual 5K on May 23rd
Week 1: 3/31 - 4/5 - Did not run or walk. Had 2 runs the previous week which gave me 2 bad headaches each. Decided not to run this week, had planned to walk, but got stuck into homework and getting caught up in 1 class.
4/7 - Ran 1.51 miles
4/9 - Ran 2.01 miles (total run - 3.52 miles)
4/11 - Walked 3.2 miles (total walked - 3.2 miles)
