I have been wearing a mask inside stores long before anyone else in this area. I haven't been when son and I walk. I think I will start doing this because many we past don't seem to understand what 6 feet is and now there reports coming out that is someone coughs or sneezes near you 6 feet is not enough.
Some stores here are only allowing one shopper in the store no kids or spouses.
I try minimize shopping because it is such an undertaking. DS who is still smoking trying to do less at least loves fast food. We do end up doing that much less than he would like but more than I do. If it were up to me it would be 0 times. I still think stores could do a better job protecting their employees too with masks and cleaning off counters and card swipes between customers. The few times I have done the designated shopping I always bring my wipes and wipe things down myself.
I did learn ideally you are able to wet down a hard surface and then let it air dry then most of the germs should be gone. I still think the most important thing is staying home, distance , partitions, and masks. Given how this has raced around the globe I think it is mostly spread through the air.

Hi ladies. I'm new to the group and would love the support, inspiration and "connection" particularly during this difficult time. I reside in upstate NY, 2 hours north of NYC. Thanks. Patti9

All you have to do is come back daily. read what everybody writes, and join the conversation. I am taking this one day at a time, realizing that I am very privileged and my troubles are frequently of my own making.

Drum roll please.... .
I'm the proud owner of 30 jumbo rolls of TP!!!
No, not hording. It is the smallest package available at Costco. I'm good for at least 5 to 6 months.
Long story. Yesterday while out at the grocery store I was in the paper isle mumbling under my breath I cannot believe I still have not found TP. A nice gal said, I was at Costco yesterday and they had tons. Well, there wasn't any to be found when I went yesterday. I decided I would run in and out of the grocery this morning to check. There was none available. I decided I would swing by Costco again (it's only 5 miles away) to see if people were walking out with it. Much to my surprise and joy there were packages in people's carts. Never have I been so happy to be able to buy TP! It's the simplest things in life that can make us happy.9 -
Ticking a few things off the list ...
- Got a laptop connected to the stereo for some musical variety.
- Finally figured out how to use the Run feature of Zwift and did a 30 min walk/run.
- Washed my bedding ... trying to do that a bit more frequently. Some stuff is still on the line tonight and will remain there till it dries tomorrow. Hopefully it dries tomorrow. I might have to bring a piece or two in to put over the drying rack.
I've also been going through my emails to get on top of things. One of the things I need to get on top of is my cycling club stuff. There will be 2 meetings this month ... one I have to organise and one I just attend, but for both I need to go over some material.
Yesterday I thoroughly vacuumed the back half of the house and cleaned the bathroom and toilet room.
I need to focus on my 2 uni assignments, but I also need to get a few of these other things done so that they aren't on my mind. I've got a bit to finish tomorrow, and then it's all assignments for the rest of the week.

Amber - You wanted suggestions on how to use salmon. Here's the woman who just got 13 pounds of it at the grocery store! One of my favorites is this maple/chili/soy glazed salmon:Make a marinade ofThe other day my husband and I went out for a drive, hoping to see something beyond the center of our tiny town. What we eventually caught sight of was way better than we dared hope. This little guy and his friend were goofing off at the edge of the sea ice down by the marina.
2 T maple syrup
1 T sriracha
1 T soy sauce
1 big clove of garlic, chopped
Pour over two 5-6 oz pieces of salmon
Let sit in the fridge for a while (an hour or so is ideal, but if you're in a rush just go straight to the next step)
Transfer the salmon to a small baking pan and pour the marinade over.
Bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes.
Serve with bulgur or couscous or rice or whatever you like.
Serves 2.
If maple syrup isn't in your pantry, honey will do in a pinch. Sriracha can be replaced with strong chili sauce. Or why not some of that good old habanero chile hot sauce, since you're a Texas gal?
And yesterday the motion-triggered webcam at our place in mainland Norway captured the Easter bunny hard at work! He's on a snowdrift outside our office window. At a guess, that drift is 10 feet high. No wonder he hesitates before he jumps down! I just love the little black tips of his ears.
Today we've been out for a snowmobile ride. I'll post some pics from that later.

Penny- Thankyou!! Got a huge bag to use up! We’re a Hispanic named mixed race family so lots of spicy to sweet items in the house to use! I have jasmine rice y couscous . Garlic we don’t have or onion 🧅 but think I got garlic powder still for making salsas to chili’s. Sounds like it would hide the flavor.

Heather: Prior to this crisis our grocery stores did have baggers. Often it was the cashier, but occasionally it was a second person. Store employees do not want to touch my durable bags since they aren’t new or sterile, so I bag my own. I do not want to waste trees by turning them into paper bags. :noway: I guess that makes me a tree hugger.
Michele: Good news that your DH is doing better.
Karen: I have a tin ear and am never welcome in a choir. This Camden Choir is amazing and the technology that allows them to sing as a choir from their own individual homes is magical.
Pip: Corona Beer “virus” drinker. We need to thank him for the humor. Thank you for sharing.
Allie: It is so good to see your post today. I’ve missed seeing you the last day or two.
SuziQ: Congrats on your acquisition of TP!!!!
I had a call from my son last evening. He was driving home from visiting his MIL, likely for the last time. She’s been battling aggressive cancer for a long while and is near the end of life. My heart aches for the whole family. My DIL was driving a truck load of family treasures that her mom wanted her to take home. My son was driving their car with a baby seat and their son. I know that medical scientists are working hard to create a vaccination for COVID & suspect it will be available in the foreseeable future. Sadly, there are no vaccines that can prevent the aggressive cancer that DIL's mom has, and surgeries don't always manage to get it all.

Got 1/4th garage wall area cleaned but it was the junk wall so success!! Hubby going to move the heaviest items soon for me. I got what I could that was light weight ran out of boxes to pack up some foam tiles (the tiny ones not the nice huge ones.Maybe the ruined big ones from heavy furniture squishing it too bad). Bigger tiles under the exercise equipment. So lots done. Next cook the salmon, maybe some thing to go with it no clue yet. Brain dogs not helping2 -
Had the most WONDERFUL Zoom with the grandchildren. Bea only put in a brief appearance, but Max and Edie are very good at it and chatter away as if we were there in person. I really, really needed it and it has given balm to my sore heart.
Also spoke to my son. He is putting a brave face on things, but I know he has taken a pay cut and they are taking turns with the kids to work from home. My DDIL does have plenty of on line consultations. Three kids has to be hard work, even with their big house.
The bad news is, we would have been sailing away from Dover this afternoon, with a glass of something sparkling in our hands, looking at the White Cliffs in the bright sunshine and listening to the band. The good news is, the weather for next week in Norway is forecast to be very cold, snowy, rainy and windy. I think we dodged a bullet! My RIB trip would have been no fun.
My son and DDIL were meant to be on a loving weekend at the seaside while her parents had the kids. Oh well.
DH had a phone call from an old colleague this afternoon. She was a young woman who taught at his school. When I met him she was his best friend and the 'best woman' at our wedding. She got MS and we haven't seen her for ages. He said the conversation was as if they had never been apart. She is a funny, great personality. He thought she was an amazing teacher.
So we both feel enormously cheered by our interactions this afternoon. The lack of contact with the kids was getting to me, but they are so amazing at just picking up where we left off.
I decided that I had done enough cooking for one week. A new pizza take away opened up around the corner a couple of months ago, so we have booked two pizzas for 6 pm and DH is going up to collect them. It's not wood fired, but it has a good reputation and is open flame. I'm having Vesuvius, a hot one, and DH is having Meathead. He produced a great bottle of Pinot Noir, so we are all set. There's a Norwegian thriller on TV tonight!
Bananas - The beaches are meant to be used by locals only and only for exercise. The police are stopping tourists and stopping anyone sunbathing, sitting or bbqing. Most people are being very good.
The grandkids were about to have a waterfight, followed by face painting. DDIL sent us a pic of her facepaint as done by Edie.
SuziQ - I share your joy over the bog roll, as we call it over her. Or loo roll. Yeah!!!

Good morning from sunny but cold Canada! Looking for some extra tips as I seem to be stuck on my weight loss. My goal is to drop 30 pounds. I have managed to lose 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks but for the last 2 weeks, I've stayed at my current weight. I work out daily (32 minutes on the treadmill/2 minutes cool down) and use our BowFlex 4 to 5 times per week. Stretches each day. Definitely am losing inches and feeling tighter in various areas. But why, why, why is my weight stuck? I'm geared for 1200 calories a day and typically add in 200ish with my workouts, but mainly am under at the end of the day. Lost my appetite with this Pandemic but eat each day to sustain. I'm 57, went thru menopause quickly, with no issues and no residual effects. I take no hormones. Anyone else had this experience? I'm going to keep going as it's helping me have increased energy and I feel good. But our son is getting married in September and we are both working hard to get back in shape and this is making me a bit down. Would love to hear if this is normal. Thank you everyone!2

DS & DDIL arrived home safely. That is the best possible end to a difficult trip. I hope they're able to get some rest today. As Dorothy said in the Wizard of OZ, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home." I am happy that they're home.

I’ve washed clothes off and on by hand all my life! My family didn’t have a lot of money but 4 kids. I learned how to use a wringer/washer at my grandma’s when she babysat us. We were required to help with laundry day at her house. No clothes dryers just clothes lines. I remember I always lived playing between the sheets hung out!
Then learned how to wash by hand when my mom’s washer broke. 4 kids and 1 in diapers. Wash in bathtub, then wring by hand. Mom would hang clothes as our line was too high up for me to reach.
I am the oldest so like it or not, I had the pleasure’ of learning how to do house work, gardening, weeding, diaper changing (cloth diapers then), and cooking. Parents were always working or out at the ‘clubs’. My dad had a band so weekends were always busy too. During the week, supper at 5 or all “H” broke loose. Then dad would leave again and go drinking.
Learned a lot as a child. Some good.

Rebecca: I shop at two local stores. In both cases I take in my durable plastic bags. When I get to the checkout stand, I go to the end of the stand and bag my own groceries. The stores here are fine with that. I also wear a mask and gloves at all times while in the store. It works well for me. You could ask about it. They might say no, but they also might say yes. Do the baggers at your store wear gloves and masks? If they don’t, how are you being protected? :flowerforyou:
Lanette: I have been walking with the dog & DH. We have shopped at our local Safeway and IGA for most things. Walmart gets a share of our business, too. Most of the time I get dog food there.
Rori: I’m glad to hear things are going well. It is good to hear that DH has been mellow. Mars is a very photogenic kitty.
Machka: The Governor of Oregon has closed all the schools until September. The schools in our area still provide lunches that can be picked up by the kids.
(((Michelle))): I hope you are able to bring Jake home soon. I’m glad your daughter Jess is there with you.
(((Marianne WV)))
We seem to be getting through and staying sane. We’ve taken a couple of walks in our neighborhood. This is new for DH and I’m delighted he’s going along. The dog and I walk, & DH rides his mobility scooter. We now have our recumbent bikes set up on trainers in the garage so that we can use them to burn calories in good weather or bad, any time of day or night. There are wheel blocks on the front wheels and a tension roller on the back to create a good workout for our legs. On our walk today we spotted an osprey couple in their nest at the end of the road. When we got home I looked across the river from us and spotted another osprey in its usual nest. I've been looking for them so that put a smile on my face.

The commissary is definitely a whole different brand of store compared to stores in the civilian world. Ever since I married into this life, the commissary has had baggers. Its not a choice, it just comes with the shopping experience. There are two types of baggers, kids that want some extra cash, or retired ladies, mostly Filipino. They work for tips only, so there's many that give them a buck, maybe $5. Some give $20. This is income they don't have to report, its a crazy system. Lee and I agree, if they whine and want more money, get a job with an actual paycheck. We usually pick lines with teenagers if we can, but many times you're just instructed to go to this line or that line. Two weeks ago the cashier and baggers maybe 2% were wearing masks. The cashier was wiping down her station with every customer though. We are going this Tuesday. I think the commissary and exchange both have implemented mandatory masks for everyone.👍 I might bag my own if I can. The last time we shopped though, your own bags weren't even allowed in the store.

We went for a drive to do an outdoor visit with my son's family today. It was the first time I have been out of the house in two weeks and I loved being out in the sunshine. Very surprised to see that all the parking lots (groceries) were packed with shoppers! It looks like a lot of folks in the county I live in are going about their lives as usual. Also saw a lot of walkers and runners following the 6 ft distancing.
This is my 8 yr old GD in her Easter dress. She won't be able to wear it to church on Sunday, but, at least she gets to know it is for her on a special day. She is going to be tall and thin...not short like me!

I am just at a loss as to what to add lately.
I continue to follow my fasting protocol of 20:4 (fast 20 hours, eat within a 4 hour window). I lost 10 pounds last month ... this month has already seen several of those pounds show up on the scale. Water weight I am certain.
We are strictly following safety protocols. I have not left the house since March 18th except to take my son to an April 1st appointment and to attend a "drive-through" Good Friday prayer event at our church. Windows up. Things to read and see. Turn on radio to listen to things. Prayer with the Pastor after communion (individual commercially sealed units) handed in a ziplock bag by his wife who was wearing a mask and gloves. Pastor masked as well and he prayed over the vehicle with window cracked to hear him. It was different, but my family and I appreciated the effort and significance.
Because our annual dessert auction was canceled, I have the ingredients to make Baklava ... which I did this morning for tomorrow. I also thought about Easter a few weeks ago and ordered candy in one of my grocery deliveries. So I will have a few things to make baskets. Not much, but then we don't need it. Also tried making a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg copycat recipe ... meh. Not like the original and enough sugar to make your teeth hurt. Of course, my human hoovers think they're wonderful.
The weather is finally looking more like Spring ... although we did have a heavy wet snow Thursday and yesterday. We've contracted for a new pool fence ...that should be installed once the town offices open and we can get a permit. Desperately need the fence as sections are down and simply covered with construction plastic fencing. I have nightmares about it.

RORI ~ Just wanted to tell you that Mars the Leash Loving Cat is so handsome. Love him!
HEATHER ~ Edie did a great job decorating her mom. What's with the eye in the middle of her forehead? Enjoy your pizza and wine.
AMBER ~ How do you make your Broccoli Normandy?
SUZIQ ~ So glad you found TP and hope Lucy finds some soon.
We were disappointed in our Instacart delivery yesterday. They had to replace a lot of items I asked for with some that were less desirable. The only ground meat available was one lb. pack of 75% lean. We will probably go to Walmart at 6 AM for senior shopping on Tuesday as I will need to pick up a prescription and hopefully we will get some things that will keep us going.

Hey friend, I follow 20/4 as well. My eating window is 12 noon to 4, or Some days 2 to 6 pm. I'm really enjoying it! I like how my belly is kind of empty at bedtime. I sleep so much better. I have only been doing this since February, but I kind of fell into eating more of an OMAD (one meal a day) thing during my windows. Today I am attempting my first longish fast until noon tomorrow. Just want to kick start my week a bit. Plus I want my body to feel that AUTOPHAGY! Recycle those cells and heal me!💖😁

One more round of taking life one day at a time. Freezer, pantry, and fridge have plenty of food. Washer and dryer are working so I have plenty of clean clothes. Internet is functioning so I can be with all of you. Walked the dogs enough this morning that they are now fast asleep in their beds. Also, water is working so we have toilets that flush and water for showers and washing hands.

I think it is just wonderful that the kids still feel close to us. Your granddaughter and her dress are amazing!
The pizza was really good. Not quite Fatto a Mano standard, but excellent. DH didn't have to wait at all and I had already paid. I had done 900 calories exercise today to atone for my sin.
I have a heart at peace tonight, though, as is the way with hearts, I want more.
