Morning, Happy Good Friday
It's a bit chilly so far, but it may warm up later. I managed to get the grass cut yesterday and DS started on digging out the brambles near the shed wall. He filled up some holes in the garden with the excess soil, and this morning Leah had a great time digging them out again the little devil! My friend has sent photo's of her lovely garden, I sent her one back of ours - not in the same league (Well she doesn't have a dog)
Not sure if it's because Leah has been spending more time in the garden, but her allergies have flared up, they seemed to be settling down a little, it must because of all the street walking, but now we've been taking her onto the field near the golf course she's been quite itchy. She is due another injection next week not sure if we have wasted our money there, but we'll have to see how she gets on.
Heather I really envy your deserted beaches, it must be lovely to walk/run by the sea every day. It is still my dream to "retire" to the seaside eventually. If I could afford it I'd be there like a shot, I'd have to take mum too of course!
Take care!
Love to all

Hello one and all.
Another early wake up this morning. 2:30 am! TG, I have the day off because I will be able to take a nice long nap.
Many things to be grateful for this morning.- I am grateful to have another healthy day on this planet we call earth.
- I am grateful to see my bank account received my payroll funds. I am so incredibly lucky to be working for a company that will continue to employ me for the foreseeable future.
- I am grateful for the quiet of the neighborhood and the slight breeze. When I am in my courtyard the breeze rustles the palm fronds and if I close my eyes I can imagine being on the beach.
- I am grateful I live in SFL where the weather is near perfect year round and there is seldom a time when I do not get to see the sun shine every day.
- I am grateful I am able bodied and can take care of myself and my home on my own.
- I am grateful for my online friends and the technology that allows us to keep in touch and support each other.
The day is very young and I discovered there is a store opening at 6 am this morning. Maybe, just maybe I will luck out and find some TP - LOL......one can always hope!
Take care friends.

Janetr: Grrr! That’s appalling! The low life’s are always with us!
Kim: Fortunately, the good guys outnumber them. People can be so kind.
SuziQ: Your list is growing, as is mine.- I am grateful to wake up positively each morning
- I am grateful for the loving presence of my beloved husband
- I am grateful for my garden
- I am grateful that I have the expertise to sew masks to send to my family
- I am grateful that I have what I need
- I am grateful for the quiet neighbourhood I live in and the clement weather at the moment
- I am grateful for the modern technology which allows me to stay in touch
- I am grateful for the informative and supportive friends I have met in this group

If you'd like a little perspective on this stuff, this article is really interesting:

Lisa AR: An interesting and comprehensive article which underlines the fact that these pandemics have always been with us.Unfortunately, memories are short, and a lot of people didn't take the risk seriously for the present threat, which has been in existence for several years, but ,very shortsightedly, was not prepared for because of financial factors.
Karen: stunning photograph.3 -
Janetr here where I live the police are doing the same thing the are so overwhelmed with violent crime and COVID that property crimes they ask you fill out a report online.
Again so sorry this happened to you.
Margaret4 -
Karen - seriously, that photograph is breathtaking.
Terri - Yes, exactly. In living memory, more than 60 million people have died from pandemics. And we just assumed it wouldn't happen to us. Gah...
Onward, upward - got pinto beans with a hambone in them starting on the stove, and looking forward to that smell, one of the ones that remind me of home and Mama.
Love y'all,

Our apples ...
However, the apples in the 4 jars are about half ours and half a bag I bought and had delivered. Making those was an experiment by my husband ... and one day we'll see what they're like. We might make a pie or something. It's all in an attempt to grow and preserve our own food.
Tonight I ate one of the apples from our other tree. Just a touch tart, but it's all right.

Barbara I attended two line dance classes on Zoom and the ability to watch and learn from the teacher was pretty good, but in the beginner class, the dances were easy but I didn't care for the music and in the intermediate class she spent the whole class teaching one dance that I knew I would never dance again. I'm sure it's great for you to be dancing familiar dances with people you know.
Kim, what wonderful kindnesses from your friends.
Lisa, that's was a great article. I knew intuitively that this wasn't the world's greatest health disaster, but I didn't know the facts. I remember the part in James Michener's Hawaii where in the wake of an epidemic, whole neighborhoods were burned to stem the spread of the disease.

I had the Hong Kong flu in 1968. Hideous.
I had Russian flu in 1977. Awful, but not quite as bad.
Missed the Swine flu 2009, must have had immunity.
Don't know what my cough was last winter, but it was ghastly.
Beautiful photo, Karen.

Just done 400 extra calories on the rower and bike, so I can eat tonight. 800 total.

It's a Good Friday morning here and spring has sprung!
Machka - I laughed out loud at those memes. Wearing a mask in the house to stop eating.... great idea! Also it's interesting the very stringent rules about social interaction and the fines. Seems like walking on the beach with a friend would be a good way to get fresh air - but I'm sure they have their reasons.
Kim - how awesome a big embroidery order and the jobs coming up and gift cards. And loved that article about you and the successful plant sale. Good of you to shop for mom. Is your brother in remission?
Ginny - interesting comment from that nurse about you wearing gloves. I wear mine to protect my hands from the sanitizer and the chemicals in many of the wipes. Besides, it reminds me my hands might be contaminated so I'd better not touch my face.
Janetr - what a shame about the theft. I'm sending a virtual conk on the head with my cast iron frying pan to whoever did this. I know we'd really be shaken up if it happened to us.
Got my walk in at 6:15 as soon as DH got up. I love my early morning walks, alone. Just me in my introverted special time, no talking. Noticing the trees, the animals, nature waking up.
It looks like my late morning/early afternoon walks with my sweet neighbor "D" might turn a group thing as another gal on our block saw us walking and asked to join us, we politely said yes. And yesterday she said she's invited another gal to join us
D might be OK with this, so I'm not going to stress. What I do know is that I really enjoyed the ability to be spontaneous and flexible as far as walking times with D. Hoping we can keep it at a "if you see us, feel free to join in". When I retired, I vowed to never again be in charge of organizing something for a group so I'm sticking to my guns. The introvert in me finds that interacting with more than one person at a time pretty draining. How to tactfully express that to extroverts is a challenge.
Anyhow, got in a 19 minute mile this morning and feel pretty good about it. Lovely morning and no wind so the pollen left me alone.
Heading out to glitterville to do my shopping this morning. Masks and "shopping jacket" are ready. Then BFF will stop by around lunchtime to pick up her masks and take home a bunch of Lucifer Crocosmia starts.
So better get cracking. Make it a fabulous day, ladies.

Walking on the beach with A friend is OK.
Walking on the beach with 2 friends is not.
Sitting on the beach is not.
Although, that said, some very popular beaches are closed entirely.SophieRosieMom wrote: »It looks like my late morning/early afternoon walks with my sweet neighbor "D" might turn a group thing as another gal on our block saw us walking and asked to join us, we politely said yes. Down here, if the 3 or 4 of you were to walk together, you could be nailed with a $16,000 fine. So you'd have a great excuse to say, "No" to anyone who wanted to join you!!
M in Oz4 -
Lanette - I'm with you about the walking party. Two's company, three's a crowd for me. I would put my foot down, nicely of course. More is not the merrier. I could not do it. I always think the quality of the conversation goes down the more people join in. I love my one to ones. Plus I'm fussy about who I talk to.
Plus, we are not allowed to have more than 2 people from different households walking together, even if they are social distancing.

KIM ~ Your brother sounds like a spoiled brat who never grew up. It is hard to believe that he was so unkind to your mother who shelters him and feeds him. I am so happy that your book club friends are helping you out.
TERRI ~ Beautiful, Artful Flower Arrangements.
LISA ~ Thanks for the link. It was interesting and also a sign that medicine has advanced a lot since the beginning of all these deadly ills.
KAREN VA ~ Beutiful photo...thanks for sharing.
MACHKA ~ Your photos of the scenery where you live are so pretty. What a blessing to live in such a lovely place.
JANET OKC ~ So sorry about the theft. You have been through so much lately and this just tops the pile.
KYLIA ~ I love the scenery you have to look at through your windows. Your yard is lovely.
Toilet Paper: This is an ideas from me growing up in the country 13 miles away from town. At times we ran out of toilet paper and couldn't get to the store. My mom supplied us with paper from her many dress patterns. It did the job.
Fingers crossed that when my Instacart order arrives today, I will get most of the items I ordered. They will leave it on the picnic table outside the garage and my DH will wipe things down before they come into the house.
Very windy and chilly here today!

Well ... at least you can be relatively assured that you're likely immune to last year's flu.

Barbara: Turning retired breast pumps into ventilators is brilliant! Thanks for sharing the story.
Heather: I love the beach photo, too. It is delightful and somehow very soothing. Mother earth is alive and well.
Machka: I love the humor, and can’t really choose a favorite but I’m leaning toward the bear peeking through the sliding glass door.
Barbara: I never used a breast pump, but DD did with her first baby. I wonder whether she still has it. :flowerforyou:
Terri: I love the Easter flowers and tree. Delightful!
Lisa: Unfortunately, I can’t open the Washington Post links without getting a message that blocks the view unless I pay for a subscription. :ohwell:
Lanette: I will walk with the dog &/or DH, but nobody else. DH has a bucketful of autoimmune issues and I’m not willing to risk compromising his situation. :noway:
I wear a mask and gloves when I go shopping. I take advantage of senior hours at the stores—first thing in the morning. I touch bases with friends and family via internet or telephone. So far, so good.
Today I hope to spend time getting my garden space weeded and ready to plant beans.

Did Amy Bentos Metaabolic Boot Camp DVD. I don’t think I’ll be keep this one – it’s way too intense and I’m no longer 20 years old. There’s just too much jumping off and onto the rebounder. The plan for tomorrow is to do a pilates super sculpt DVD
We now have a clewan top to our freezer! OK, you can stop laughing now.
Just read in the paper that all store are going to limit how many people can go in the store at any one time. Well..I guess I can wait if I need to, it’s not like I’m going anywhere
Barbara – Vince isn’t putting up the Christmas decorations at my insistence. If I let him have his way, he would
M – I really like that cartoon of why wearing a mask is a good thing. Actually, all of the cartoons are hilarious
On the chilly side here, but I’m actually looking forward to going to the soup kitchen. Good excuse to put on makeup and earrings
Vince is experiencing irregular heartbeat. He’s on the phone with the EMS right now. We may be going to the hospital.

I wear gloves when I'm shopping. Yes I could be transferring bugs from one item to another, but my hands would be doing that anyway. It does remind me not to touch my face. I wore huge sunglasses as well. I took my own trolley. When I came home I shook my gloves off and left them exposed for days. Then I washed my hands. It's not perfect, but I didn't come close to another person at the store. I'm leaving delivered items for at least 48 hrs, if not longer, before I touch them. Then washing hands.
It just seems so random as to who gets it severely and who mildly. Terrible toll on the doctors in NYC. Others, like my friends, who are not young, over 70, not badly at all. There must be some reason for this. Is it just over exposure to a lot of virus at once, or some other cause? I know some people's immune systems overreact. So sad when it's a younger person. And very sad when an older person is denied a dignified death.

Smoking (including smoking mj), vaping, and high blood pressure all contribute to getting the virus more seriously.
The amount of exposure also seems to contribute. Walking past someone outside might not result in much while sitting next to someone on the bus for 30 min might.4 -
Heather sounds like you got it right ✅
Machka- I picked all my oranges none left but 3 - luckily my Chinese plum tree is getting fruit..I’m not big on them but food is good!

I agree, since she is at home I don’t see why they couldn’t see her as long as they keep the social distancing safe for themselves. At our nursing home we are allowing one family member in for someone that is near end of life. We have to keep all residents safe not just the one.

Best wishes to all of you out there. I am feeling isolated, and bored, and snacking too much just like everyone else.
My Mom is on her downcycle where she gives away excess food. Next week she will buy replacements.
I'm feeling just as achy as when I went to the gym. Maybe I am just old. I still have my taxes to do later today.
So I just have very minor complaints but I wanted to speak up anyway. Enjoy your day, stay safe at home,

@Katla49 I think very few if any are going to have school before next fall. I hope we have school next fall. i'm not even sure. In France the official message at present is that school is suspended until May 5. A collegue had a meeting with one school director and there is no way they are going back to school on May 5. In China i think none have gone back to school and the virus is said to be more contained there.
@Machka9 thanks for the information on the fines. Being in nature and near the beach makes a big difference. "those helpful whatsapp messages"... I know one friend is sending me article and article and video after video. when i look into them a little they are often shaky. my sister was sending me info about how this was not serious a few week ago. when i asked her for her sources she basically more or less said she is not a fact person but an intuition person, and felt very hurt that i asked. (so why send facts to argue a point?) of course now that is no longer a discussion. a researcher friend send me a video about the conspiracy that it was created by bill gates to implant us all with microchips. i overheard a woman saying how it is all in one's thoughts. there are still people saying that. : (
@Ginnytez i hope you feel better soon. i feel tired too.
@SophieRosieMom can you go for group walks? could that be a pretext to turn down if not wanting to. i can agree that a walk w one person is simpler than a regular 4 person walk. why don't 3 and 4 just walk together...? Here you'd be stopped by the police and criticized by neighbors non-stop if you were walking in a group. They would say "Nurses are dying and these people are walking in groups like it's vacation." I read stuff like that on Facebook daily. We have no choice here anyway.
@JRsLateInLifeMom i never take my cellphone with me now when i go out.
@auntiebk it depends on the size of the screen. i have an external screen
@exermom stores have limits here. tiny shops have 1 person at a time, bigger ones can take 3, a supermarket, maybe 50 or so. the lines can be long and slow.
@cityjaneLondon i was wondering about the cause for some getting a serious case and not others. that is so upsetting and disturbing.
Having bad hay fever today and the antihistamine isn't working today.
It doesn't always. i sat on balcony from 8 to 9:30 when there is sun, but this is also a high pollen time of day.yesterday i washed my hair just after that. i didnt today. i need to wash my hair now 2x a day instead of 1x a week. my hair is long and thick so takes plenty of shampoo. i was late for a cut before lockdown but the last weeks i didn't dare get a cut. i'll probably end up cutting it myself using a tutorial and sharpening scissors with a whetting stone. Or maybe i'll let it grow out forever and ever.
I started re-reading The Plague by Camus. Have any of your read it. It's a dark novel akin to today's situation but so beautifully written, partly from the point of view of a sensitive doctor. I thought it might be depressing to read but so far it is not, because of the thoughtful observations of the narrator and character in the story.
My first 3 days of confinement i was meditation and drawing and walking, but with the endless prolongation and rising death toll, i have not kept up that upbeat rhythm at all. Sometimes i feel like rolling from bed to floor to easy chair, to chair to bed. It is not an easy time. i'm ok with being alone a fair bit, but not being able to go out without a mask and the ambient fear and terror is not a nice feeling. you can't walk here without crossing people. it's very warm and there's little wind so it feels less comfortable than on more windy days. the airborn bits can hang in the air... and it seems not great to have such stunning weather and not be able to sit outside. and this will go on for how long? yet how can we complain when others are working and others are suffering and others (homeless, people in poor countries) are much less protected.
this is not good for people with occasional low morale. common suggestion for low morale: go out and see people. both are illegal here most of the time. glad about the week off anyway.
be well.3 -
Well, EMS gave Vince some tocainede and his heartrate came down. But because they treated him, they had to take him to the hospital. It blows that I can't go with him. Hopefully, they'll call soon for me to pick him up.
The other unfortunate thing is that I'm stress eating.
I haven't been able to wash the mask my friend gave me, but it's in the wash right now just in case.
