OH!! one thing I forgot to mention. I tried the MFP feature of importing a recipe and storing it in my recipe box. Works like a charm!! It calculates calories per item. Had to finagle a couple of food items to make it come out correctly so be sure to keep an eye on values. So the 5-6 recipes I'm interested in trying are stored in my recipe box in my Food tab. YEA!!5

Weigh-in Wednesday for me:
Height: 5'6"
4/1: 186.5
4/8: 186.0
4/15: 186.3
4/22:
4/29:
April goal: 181
Non-scale goals:- Some type of movement activity/exercise in the morning and evening
- Water at 128 oz
- Continue eating healthy foods
- Prioritize sleep and manage anxiety
Grumble, grumble. My low this week was 184.6. I did indulge in some treats this past week but maintained a net average calorie intake of 1313/day for the week and got in some really good exercise. Looking back at my MFP stats, I can see that I am low on protein and higher in carbs than I should be, so I need to work on what I am eating and be a bit more careful about when I am eating it too. Hope everyone has a good week!8 -
I gathered all my courage and asked my boss not to order lunch for me today.
I hate calling attention to myself and my diet, and I hate seeming ungrateful or high maintenance. But there's just no way I can eat 1500 calories worth of fast food for lunch. That's my entire DAY.
Anyways I was being cowardly for no reason cuz she just said sure, gave me the company card and told me to go get something else lol. Got some chicken wraps. Normally wouldn't eat so much, but I've been told I need a substantial lunch today.
I've also had 1.5 liters of water... and 16 bathroom visits.11 -
My Weekly Goals are:
1. Get enough sleep and improve water intake I realized I wasn't counting all the water I drink accurately. I was actually drinking more water than I was recording. I was actually drinking close to 8 glasses 8 oz glasses a day. I thought the glasses I used held 8 oz. when they actually held 12 oz. I definitely drank 8 8oz glasses yesterday. If I do not get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night I try to take a nap.
2. Log weight, food and exercise and stay under calorie goal
3. Get some exercise 5 days a week and up NEAT cleanI have been just starting to do 5 days of exercise a week. Yesterday I did 40 minutes of weight training, cardio, exercises and stretching. I want to slowly up it from a minimum of 15 minutes to a minimum of 30 minutes. I want to get it up to 6 days a week for 30 minutes minimum by the end of the month. Next month it will be 6 days a week at 45 minutes.
4. Get close to lower 250s this means my highs and lows get and stay below 255I put this near the bottom but I am really motivated on making progress on this now.
5. Make healthy foods at home. I guess most of us are doing well at this since we have little choice. But I am doing well at this. My family loved the Shepards Pie last night. We will have spaghetti tonight since our overflow refrigerator died we do not have as much storage so we need to eat up leftovers.
So I am pleased that I got good exercise yesterday and that I achieved my water intake goal and realized I wasn't doing as bad at this as I thought. I definitely think that exercise is important not just for its health benefit but it helps my daily routine. Corinne Crabtree (Phit_n_Phat blog) talks about how routine is something we/our brain needs. So I am trying to establish a good weekday routine and follow it. It doesn't have to be as rigorous as a workday for me now but it needs to have a minimum to provide a framework for my days.
I decided to post 1st today and read post after.

Hi Everyone, I hope its OK to join this community!
I'm always 'starting over' and 'trying again' and very easily get fed up and discouraged! I've got a loooong way to go but I'm trying to break my long term goal into smaller segments. I'm one of the few who is happy to have a reason to have to stay inside and not venture out. But obviously it is not helping and I've basically just seen it as an excuse to eat everything. I am addicted to sugar (don't care if people say that isn't possible!), I very much live to eat and I always struggle with diet when trying to lose weight because I am incredibly fussy and don't like a lot of foods so I find it hard to alternate. I really want to lose weight to help me feel better about myself as a person, not just how I look but also to feel like I can control my eating. I want to get healthier and be able to do simple things like climb the stairs without feeling my heart racing!!
SW - 222lbs
1st GW - 185lbs
Ultimate goal - 140lbs (eeek!)
Hoping to be able to be part of a group and get some motivation!!!
Sqwoo x10 -
@sqwoo Welcome! Behavioral addiction to sugar is absolutely a thing, and it can be just as miserable to deal with as any chemical addiction.
I'm a pretty picky eater myself. I suggest not trying to make too many changes to what you eat for now and just try to limit how much of it you eat. It tends to be easier to manage.4 -
@AlexanderFinds Herself enjoy your rest day.
@jm216 Sorry you are in the same boat as I. I too am focusing on my health and fitness but I think Monday when I applied for unemployment was evidence that it bothered me. I was in a bit of a funk. I think I had more notice than you. Yesterday I was checking my work e-mail and there was a notice that they extended the furlough to the end of May. Of course since we aren’t doing a good job at for the virus testing in this country we know we must continue physical distancing until we do better or get a vaccine. So I am not really optimistic about this. However with focusing on my goals I am feeling optimistic about that. I do not have a dog and our 2 kittens are still too shy to go too far when we are leash training them. The term scaredy cat comes to mind so they are not as much as Roxie is for you.
@cesse47 I have put in recipes before but not sure I imported it. I will have to try this.
@aliciap0116 I think the scale will be down soon. You are doing so well with all your other goals!
Stay safe all!5 -
@speyerj I am a huge fan of NYT cooking too! It totally helps me get out of my rut. If there is a 5 star recipe on there that looks good- it is pretty much a guarantee that it is going to be amazing. They have had some cool features lately on cooking without a recipe, or cooking with random stuff in your pantry, that are targeted toward this "interesting" time.
@aliciap0116 I hate when my weight is lower on other days besides "weigh in" day. I guess I've kind of decided to stop having a specific weigh in day because of that reason, since it seems like it's not fair! You're doing amazing.
@cesse47 good for you for knowing what works with regards to working out. I know exercising first thing is the best for me, too, but somehow I can't seem to get myself motivated.
Today my goal is to log everything, avoid alcohol and bingeing. Easier said than done, but I gotta keep trying. I am so grateful for my treadmill. It was a whim of a purchase last summer- a good friend was moving to a small apartment and couldn't take it and I offered to buy it. I prefer to run outside, but all of my favorite parks are closed right now and I live on a country road that is OK for running but it gets old. Also, I'm the main parent on duty right now so it's rare to be able to escape on an outdoor run. With my tread I can just hop on whenever and still keep an eye on my kids. My seven year old likes to join me on my runs sometimes, but my younger daughter is too young.
Without my treadmill it's safe to say that exercise would be harder to come by right now. In the "olden days" (pre-covid) I swam at the rec center, ran outside in some local parks, and took spin classes at a spin studio place. All of those options are now closed.

Weigh-in Wednesday
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
4/1: 262.0
4/8: 260.8
4/15: 258.0
4/22:
4/30:
April GW: 254.2
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week - 5/5
- short walking videos twice a day 5 times per week - 5/5
- strength training 2 times per week - 2/2; increased the weight for one of the arm exercises; finally was able to add lower body/leg weight exercises since getting that weird pain in my right leg
- chair yoga 3 times per week - 3/3; added another exercise
The pain in my right leg seems to be almost gone. It's usually worse at the end of the day. Not sure why. The past couple of days the majority of the day has been pain-free so that's definite improvement.
My daughter asked me store her treadmill when she made her most recent move. It's been in my condo for a few weeks now. I finally tried it this week a few times instead of doing the walking videos. I can't do it for very long but it was fun to try something different.
Today marks 52 weeks since I started eating at a deficit and 9 months since I started to add a bit of exercise to my day. It's also around 9 months since I started logging food here on MFP. For the first 3 months, I logged my food in the spreadsheet where I currently log my exercise and track calories for projected weight loss vs. actual weight loss and fun numbers like that. In the next few days, I plan to reflect on the past year and set some goals for the next year. I want to thank you all for the support and inspiration I find here. It has been such a help.
Hope you all are well.11 -
New to the group. I always said, “If only I had enough time.” Well, now that I have time I need to get going! Thank you for the inspiration.9
-
@aliciap0116, if you are maintaining right now, you are doing just fine for these days. But I've no doubt that your consistency and commitment will be reflected on the scale soon.
@KeriA - congratulations on your recent weightloss and you are doing great with all your fitness goals too. I'm sorry about your extended furlough and I hope the unemployment application process isn't too onerous.
@Terytha - good for you for speaking up and advocating for yourself. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
@shorepine hang in there! Honestly even if all you can commit to is logging right now, that can be enough. We will get through this.
@MuttiNM - Congratulations on your one year anniversary. It's amazing how much you have accomplished. 158 pounds?!! Incredible. And you are still losing at a 2/pounds a week clip. I don't know how you do it, but you are in inspiration. It would be great to hear how your life has changed over the past year.
6 -
@MuttiNM I had not focused on your totals until just now, in terms of time and progress. Truly inspiring!!!
3 -
@speyerj and @aliciap0116 Thanks! Sometimes I get down because I still have so far to go...but not as far as I did this time last year.8
-
@MuttiMN Congratulations on your monumental achievement! I would love to hear more of your journey and your reflections!6
-
@MuttiMN I too would love to hear about your journey ... awesome accomplishment!! and very Inspiring!
@drbridgett67 Welcome. No better time than the present.
@shorepine Maybe you could fit in a fun exercise with your kids? If you search - Exercise with kids - on YouTube you'll find several and may find one that your kids would enjoy.
@KeriA I've never tried to leash train any of my cats. How difficult is it?

Hope all is well! I fell off logging for a bit and honestly, I am struggling daily with work and school and everything going on. I hope to find a groove again soon, but right now my depression is taking a firm hold so I'm having a hard time. I just wanted to pop in and say hello and hope everyone's week is going well.13
-
@torihudson6 Thinking of you. It's hard to do much of anything with depression. When mine is bad, I just try to get through the day and not worry about anything else. Just getting out of bed some days is a big accomplishment. I don't know how long your bouts usually last but I hope yours lets up soon. Hugs to you.6
-
I need friends! I just now downloaded MFP again, after using it a few other times before. I have lost 10 lbs on my own doing low carb diet but the weight loss has slowed and I need to lose another 40 at least. I’m hoping to add some new friends on here to keep me motivated. Send me a friend request if you’d like7

Good afternoon everyone, hope you are all having a gr8 day. I am wondering if I discovered something today, maybe you guys can help me on this. I had mentioned that my scale was not moving this month even though eating under calories and exercising. Well could it be the fact that I absolutely, hardly ever drink enough water? It's strange but I don't really get very thirsty much even after exercising, I know that's probably strange but have always been this way. I am trying diligently to up my water intake and even though I don't typically weigh every day have been this week and just writing it down and in the last three days that I have upped my water intake the scale is starting to go down a bit again? Has anyone else had this problem of not losing because of low water intake? Thanks all and have a wonderful day.6

Feeling a bit down today after taking my son to his 18 month check-up. He has always been a very poor sleeper. Like last night, he was a complete wild man from 1 to 4:30 AM, and he is like this most nights. I attribute much of my current weight problem to the fact that I would be so sleep-deprived and upset in the middle of the night that I fell into really disordered night binges and felt too much of a zombie during the day to even think about exercise. His doctor said today that his tonsils are much too large and are almost certainly impeding his breathing during his sleep. I was told he needs a sleep study, to see an ENT doctor, and that he likely needs to have his tonsils out because they are simply too large. This is the first time his tonsils have ever been discussed as an issue. I would be excited to get all of that scheduled, but of course he can’t get a sleep study or see ENT now because of COVID. So just feeling so frustrated! But need to not manage these feelings through food today! Food is not going to fix this problem for me. Need to take a walk outside and clear my head.5

Hello everyone, I'm checking in to keep me on track with my goals. I did OK yesterday, did indulge in some leftover Easter chocolate late night, but I otherwise met my goals. I got out for a horseback ride after my husband got home from work and it felt so good. I am so lucky that I still have that option for a mental break. I just rode on the logging roads by my house but it was so good to clear my head after trying to telecommute all day and watch my kids. My kids are hard to motivate lately, even to do simple things like get out of their pajamas seems like a monumental challenge. I guess it's true for all of us right now. My husband came home and saw how frazzled I was, I told me I should get out for a ride. I am grateful for him.
@suziieq44 not drinking enough water could definitely be a reason you're not seeing much movement on the scale. I have been realizing that lately I haven't been drinking enough, either. I'm trying to drink more today, myself.
@torihudson6 I'm sorry you are struggling right now. I am struggling with depression, myself, over this past week. Somedays it just seems really hopeless, and I hate feeling isolated from my community. Know that you are not alone. We will get through this!
@Rosie3579 that is so rough to have the medical help you need for your son put on hold right now. Even worse, that it is affecting your sleep. Do you have help during the night with him? Can you get help during the day to take a nap or get some down time? My firstborn was a terrible sleeper, and while it wasn't a medical issue, it affected my general well being for years, so I know how you feel. On the bright side- I was reading an article that said some of the first things in our economy to "open up" again will probably be non-essential medical procedures, and as soon as enough PPE can be distributed, that will happen. I hope that happens soon, for your sake and the sake of your son. Hope your walk helps today.
It's a beautiful day here, and sadly I'm stuck inside working all day, but I should just be happy I have a job still. My husband is home from work today and has taken on parenting responsibilities, and it is such a relief after weeks of it just being me home with the kids with no break. Even though I can hear them causing a ruckus elsewhere in the house, for the first day in a long time it is not me that has to go deal with it.
My goal for today is to log everything I eat, get in some exercise, and avoid alcohol.

Without water, the body cannot properly metabolize stored fat or carbohydrates.
Drinking enough water is essential for burning off fat from food and drink, as well as stored fat.5 -
@torihudson6 Depression is such a hard thing to get through, especially in isolation. Take care of yourself! I'm sorry you are feeling low.
@Rosie3579 Nothing worse than having a child up in the night! And then you still have to cope with the next day! And now the stress of not being able to see an ENT! I hope you were able to get out and go for your walk and that your son and you have a better night tonight!
@suziieq44 I am sure your water intake would make a difference! I know I'm so focused on the scale, sometimes I wish I could discipline myself to only weigh in once a month and just focus on calorie intake and exercise because it will drop if you are burning more calories than you consume... however, I stand on the scale every morning.
@shorepine It's great that your husband could take over so that you could go for a ride! Sounds idyllic!
@meganlynn1984 Welcome to this thread! It's a great place to get motivation, lots of inspiring stories!
@drbridgett67 Welcome to this thread! Yip, we have the time to do this kind of thing now!
We have been in lockdown for 21 days, I've had highs and lows. Whats kept me together is taking control of what I eat and exercising every day. I'm just focused on the present time, I'm not getting an income as I am a commission earner and obviously I can't work, the property market has come to a grinding halt in South Africa. I've got a few deals that can't go forward until the Attorneys can go back to work and the Deeds Office re-opens. I have sellers and buyers that are very stressed (understandably), we just have to take it one day at a time! I'm forced to relax and really look after myself, physical and mental well-being. I look forward to seeing my family and friends again, hope keeps me going!

Thanks for those who replied about the water intake....the reassurance helps....all I keep thinking is if I drink a lot of water then I will be holding onto water weight too (grin). However, with the amount of times I am having to hit the bathroom, I am guessing that isn't true haha.... anyways thank you for the responses and the encouragement it is so very helpful.4
-
Hi! I'm new to the group but after hitting my highest weight ever during this quarantine, I'd really like to make some changes.9
-
Today marks my 35th day in lockdown. My company issued their "Stay At Home" mandate on March 13th. I reclaimed my love of cooking, but packed on more than a few pounds. I am back on track and seeing the scale slowly tick down. (Started at 256.6 and weighed in as 253.2 this morning.) It's been hard. I never realized how much I sit behind the computer. While at the office, I could get up and run to the meeting. I no longer have that. The worst part for me is that I don't have the same human contact. Video chats are fine and all....but I miss sitting around a table talking with people.4
-
@suziieq44 - Yes, paradoxically, when you don't drink enough water, your body retains it. When you drink more than you need, your body releases it. Think of your cells as little hoarders - if you aren't drinking enough, they think there must not be enough water around, so they squirrel what they do have because clearly this is a water emergency. Once you start hydrating properly, your cells release that retained water - emergency is over, they don't need to be hoarders anymore.
Other things make you retain water too, (stress, injury, salty food) but dehydration is a biggie!5 -
My Weekly Goals are:
1. Get enough sleep and improve water intake I got more more sleep last night but I have been doing a lot today but not drinking enough yet.
2. Log weight, food and exercise and stay under calorie goal
3. Get some exercise 5 days a week and up NEAT Today I did my gazelle, did some exercises including a slow run or fast walk in my yard and then some stretching for 45 minutes.
4. Get close to lower 250s this means my highs and lows get and stay below 255
5. Make healthy foods at home. Had leftover shepards pie tonight
I am happy about some other progress too. I signed up to get some food delivered from a local dairy but it may take some time for that to start. We have been avoiding going to the grocery store and go in the early mornings for seniors but I know that delivery would probably be safer. I plan to see if I can do delivery for other food next time we need groceries.
I also went out to my back yard and did some sketching. My 1st degree was in art and for a good amount of time I had a studio and exhibited my art. I had to go to work as a planner (2nd degree) after my kids got old enough to go to school/preschool to help support our family. I really love my current planning job that I am on furlough from and we need me to work so we can get ready to retire. However I also loved doing my art and plan to do that when I retire. The problem is that my family has stored things in my art room so I can’t get in there to work. Goodwill is closed during this time so it makes it hard to clean it out. When I was exercising I realized that I was interested certain parts of my backyard to paint. But I can’t get to my paints but I decided to sketch and photograph what I wanted to paint for now. My bullet journal is helping me get organized to get things done during this time I am not working.
@Terytha what I great non-scale victory.
@shorepine You were talking about being grateful for your treadmill. I am grateful that I have my gazelle. I got it because we can easily put it away, it was also cheap. We have a small house and we don’t have any room for exercise equipment. We keep putting it away (Christmas, etc.) so I haven’t really been able to use it much but now I am starting to use it. No one can come over now anyway so who cares if it is in the living room. It doesn’t have any resistance but right now I have built in resistance (weight). It gets me going and then sometimes I feel more like doing more and get outside to do more. I still miss the pool and Aquafit but I think I needed to get used to doing other exercise.
@MuttiNM Glad to see the progress you are making and that the pain is going away in your leg.
@cesse47 it isn’t really working they are too scared to go anywhere but my daughter keeps trying. We have coyotes so there is no way we are going to let them be outside cats.
@torihudson thanks for checking in. I can see how it would be hard to work and go to school right now. Remember that maintaining your weight is something of an achievement and something we will all need to know how to do when we reach our goal weight. If that is something you can do feel good about it. Monday I was down and just filed for unemployment and didn’t try to do much else. This thread is about unconditional love and support.
@suziieq44 I lose weight really slowly. The only time I have lost more pounds was the time I drank more than 8 glasses of water. The other thing is getting enough sleep. I lose more on days that I have had a good night sleep. I like to drink some water but have a really hard time getting in 8 glasses. Oh actually drinking water will help water retention not cause it.
@Rosie3579 What I hate the most is when someone has a health issue and the Drs don’t know what it is. I am glad your Dr knows what the problem is. However it is hard to wait for something important to his health. Good job taking a walk to face your feelings about this.

@cesse47 - when I get into a cooking rut I browse through the New York Times Cooking Website and find something new to make. Right now I think you can access some of the recipes without a subscription. But of course there are countless other sites you can go to. Here's a link to the NYT site:
https://cooking.nytimes.com/?action=click&module=nav®ion=logo&pgType=recipe-page
Thanks! I did check out the link and found a couple of interesting dishes ... just have to see if I can scale them down for 1-2 people. I did find a link -- skinnytaste.com -- and found a few other recipe ideas. Most seem to be for 4 servings so I can easily cut them in half. Thanks again!!
I often cook for six instead of the three of us and freeze the other half. It's very nice some days just to be able to throw a frozen casserole in a low oven and let it thaw and warm til dinner.
