Women over 40- Let's lose 20 pounds!

Hello.... I'm stuck on repeat. I lost motivation in February after I lost my mother. During what little morning period I did have the dang VIRUS has showed up. To say I'm on the struggle bus is a understatement. I have to change my ways. I have gained weight and needed to loose to begin with. I can not go back to where I started and I'm quickly approaching that number. I find it amazing how long it takes to feel thin and strong and how quickly we gain our blubber back. I would like to shed 20 pounds I understand that isn't a lot but hey I am NOT in my 20s anymore.
I am so with you on this! STUCK on constant repeat. I DO NOT want to go back to what I was before. NEVER! We got this. We have too. Let's move forward and keep it that way.1 -

This sounds perfect. I am 43 and want to lose 20lbs. I am 5'2 and currently weigh 145 lbs. I am on day 25 of 100 morning meltdown but just started counting calories again on Monday. I am trying for 1200-1400 calories and 10000+ steps. Have also given up alcohol during the week.
I would like to add in jogging and a couple days of heavy lifting when I adjust to the calorie cut.
I have problems with procrastination in all areas of my life. I feel like I need to get organized and take control.
I want to feel healthy and good about the way I look this summer.
Please feel free to add me. I have no friends yet!
I am on day 4 of the 100!! Very jealous of you:) I am with you when it comes to procrastinating!! Glad you are here:)2 -

I am now 177 as of this morning and I am STUCK! I really wanna get to 150. But like many of you, so much going on and stress makes me want FOOD! I need help sticking to eating the better choices of food. I CANNOT outrun a bad diet! HELP!!! I need accountability partners here. You can friend me. I track and workout most every day. I just need help eating better!!!! UGH. Good luck to you all.
So with you- I do pretty good with exercise but it is the eating that kills me!! You have made incredible progress- hoping we can help one another travel this path together!2 -

Awesome- those workouts are best- after they are over!!! Well done:)2 -

I just turned 46 last month. I started my weight loss journey (this time around lol) on 12-3-19 with "Noom". I've lost 34 lbs so far, but I still have 17 lbs to go. I've plateaued and need a new outlet to motivate me, so here I am.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here and supporting you all!
Welcome!! How are you liking noom? You have made great progress with it!1 -
Good morning!! I just finished reading the posts I have missed. You all have such amazing stories and it is a blessing to be able to share in them with you❤ lack of human contact makes it easy to focus on only one's own story's but reading your posts is very inspiring! Thank you! I have been terrible about logging my food but I have been staying well within my IF fasting period. Weighing in on Saturday🤞🏻 of course aunt flow is due to arrive and I hate how that messes with the scale. Are you all daily or weekly weighers?? Not sure which strategy i should use. I have been getting my workouts in- with two of my daughters joining me, lol! We literally got 7 inches of snow yesterday - and I am angry about that!! Anxious to be outside consistently. I love the walking book club somebody mentioned- how clever:) hope you all have a great day today!

@gela130 I am a daily weigher. It doesn't get me down. If my weight is down, I'm happy. If it's up (more than say, half a pound), I know I need to tighten things up a bit that day. I record my "official" weight on Monday morning. This is easier now that I'm not socializing lol. But sticking to Mondays kind of helps me do better over the weekend. That's great that your kids workout with you. My son does also, on the days he's here. (He's 27 but disabled, so here half the time and the other half at his dad's.) I'm in SE Wisconsin and it's snowing right now. Big flakes, too, so I bet it will stick. I'm ready for warm weather! You said you do heavy lifting-what program (if any) are you doing?
@aprillacey2 Starting something is hard, so once I got into exercise again, I knew I couldn't quit. I won't let myself skip more than two days in a row, and usually not even that much. I love BOD! I'm on day 25 of doing 80 Day Obsession for the first time. It's definitely harder than MM100, which I really enjoyed. But Lit Cardio is the devil lol.
@healthytink I agree with you-there are a lot of groups that start out strong and fade. I'm hoping we can get this group off the ground and people post frequently. LOL at you saying "this time around". Girl, I can relate. I've been up and down so many times it's ridiculous. I'm hoping this time it sticks. I have more time for myself at this point in my life (54, kids grown, working a reasonable 40 hour week) so I'm more determined than ever. We can do it!
@laughingdakini1 That sounds like a great plan. I have averaged 1.4 pounds a week since last September and don't have any sagging skin, thank goodness. I watch The Biggest Loser and wonder how the heck it's healthy losing so much, so fast.
@SherryCook2 I'm sorry you're having a bad week-hopefully it got better since Wednesday and you got some exercise time in. I understand the working too much problem. From Nov 2018-Feb 2019 I averaged 65 hours a week at my desk. I was in charge of implementing a new computer/accounting system for our company. It was awful. I even worked on Christmas Day. So working 40 hours a week now feels like a part time job. Good for you for continuing to track through it!
@DaniellaOFarrell2015 Welcome. Is that your baby in your profile pic? What a cutie!
@tiff0277 I'm sorry to hear you lost your mother. My mom has cancer right now, which is bad enough in a "normal" world without all the extra fear for her with Covid. And yes, it stinks how fast we can gain weight! I can gain 5 pounds in a weekend. Why does it take two weeks to get rid of it??
@tigerlily8045 Wow it sounds like an extra stressful time for you. Are you cooking unhealthy dinners? I'm just wondering if you don't like cooking at all, or just don't want to work that hard to find healthy stuff. I have found several websites that have good recipes so let me know if you want me to share them. Are you exercising at all? It can really help with out mental health
@eva4180 Welcome! We have similar stats-I was 186.6 on 09/23 when I joined WW, and my goal was 141. I actually made that goal yesterday. But big surprise, I'm not happy enough-still way too much squishy belly fat lol. So I don't know what my actual goal is now. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and see what happens. And it definitely gets harder to lose the older we get.
@SassyBelle070707 Congratulations on that big weight loss! You sounds like me, never happy with myself no matter what. I think that's something most women struggle with, and the media portrayal of women doesn't help, that's for sure. I am trying to just focus on the best me i can be, not to sound like a self-help book lol. Are you working out?
Today is day 25 of 80 Day Obsession for me-leg day. I actually like leg day lol. I have the dreaded "saddlebags" that just don't seem to want to go away, and this program has tons of lunges on leg day, which is just what I need.
You guys, I'm so excited! I decided on a big purchase for myself. Bye bye stimulus money lol. I'm just waiting for the sales person to verify they have this in the warehouse and I'm picking it up on Sunday. I look at it as an investment in my health and healthy future. I have been looking for 17.5 and 22.5 dumbbells forever and couldn't find any. This set has all the in-between ones! This is my first time posting a picture so I hope it shows up. ETA: it shows up all right. Sorry it's giant!

Hello! I guess I’m the old lady here at 54 😊. 5’5 1/2 and 173. I’ve lost 50lbs twice in the last 8 years, but always gain it back. I’ve done WW and Quick Weight Loss and have been doing MFP, but don’t always log in everything. Most of the time I give up after half the day and figure I’ll just start again tomorrow. I try to exercise everyday, taking the dog for a walk, then going on the treadmill or in the pool and attempt to do weights 3 days a week. I think if I had a community trying to do the same thing, it might give me more motivation!!4
-
@PedmomJill HECK YEAH! great stimulus check purchase. I am in AZ and it gets hot in the summer. In house equipment rocks. I am working out. Actually quite a bit. In Jan 2020 I made a goal to walk/run a half marathon and I did it! March 21, 2020. But now I am training using a program similar to the 13.1 to walk/run a marathon. My eating is my worst enemy. Even if I do not choose the best foods to eat, I need to track track track. UGH. It is my worst battle. I am very happy with my progress, but you are right. It is NEVER enough it seems. I need to be more focused on that progress. I have come a long freakin way. LOL Have a wonderful day. Loved your kind posts to everyone.5

@elisemarahannon Welcome! I turned 54 in February so you're not alone! I could have written your story lol. I've done WW about six times over the years. I always do good at losing but then always gain it all back. Boo!! I think you're right in saying having a community might help us stay on track. I finally got committed to daily exercise when I subscribed to Beachbody on Demand last October. I've hardly missed a day. It's so fun to have different instructors and types of workouts. And for $99 a year, it's money well spent.
@SassyBelle070707 Haha, thanks for helping my justify my purchase. The guy called me and said he doesn't have any new ones in stock but he could sell me the display model. He said obviously nobody has used it to workout, it's just a model. I asked for a discount and he took 10% off so I'm happy with that. And bonus-it's put together so I don't even have to do that! A marathon!?!? I bow down to you. Running is the one thing I've never been able to get into at all. I just hate it lol. PS-it's easy to respond to everyone if you have two screens and can read on one and post on one. Otherwise it's hard to keep scrolling up and down haha.
Leg day is done. I must be a masochist because I really like leg day. Haha.
I have a busy weekend coming, compared to what life has been like. I get to leave the house three days in a row! LOL I have to drop my son off at his dad's after work and then go pick up my bike. I took it in a couple of weeks ago to get a good tuneup. I'm so excited for warm weather coming (someday!) so I can get outside and ride. Then tomorrow I have a grocery pickup finally-they are not easy to schedule anymore. And then Sunday I'll be driving about an hour away to get my weight rack and dumbbells. I also need to carry all the dumbbells I have now and my weight rack upstairs to the garage to make room. I'm going to try to sell them on Facebook Marketplace, but I'm NOT going to price gouge. That makes me so mad!
Have a good evening ladies!2 -
Hi ladies, I’m 41 and looking to join for some accountability and motivation. I would like to lose 10-15 lbs I gained in the last year. I’m a runner and this extra weight is putting strain on my joints and back. I tend to over estimate how much food I can eat because I run a lot but the extra calories add up fast. I know getting back to calorie counting will help me make better food choices and help me monitor portion sizes.6

Hi foodie, and welcome. Hey, we’re neighbors-I’m in Elkhorn WI. 🙂 it’s SO easy to gain and hard to lose, isn’t it? Boo! Like you, I have to track every darn thing to stay on track. Thank goodness for MFP.
I’m so disappointed-I can’t ride my bike today. It’s just too windy. We’re going to have wind in the teens until Thursday. That’s just too windy for me. At least it will be in the high 50s by then so I’m hopeful.
Picked up groceries, did laundry and a little cleaning, and got my 80DO workout in. I have the rest of the day to relax. Yay!
I hope you’re having a great Saturday!

Hello! I am turning 42 in 3 months and feel like a complete failure lol I’ve been on MFP for years now and here I am again. I’m 5’4 and weight about 160. Is love to get. Between 130-135. I’m going to start working out but I need a support group! I had breast cancer 8 years ago so I’ve been on medication that puts me in menopause so it’s been hard to lose the weight. I’m feeling motivated though! Add me as a friend if you’d like. I’m from Nova Scotia Canada and need to be held accountable lol6

Welcome! You’re not the only one to come and go and come back again. Menopause is the devil!!!! I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with it already.

I am a runner too- doesnt take much extra weight to increase that joint pressure:( I dont ever want to give up running because of injury- I pulled a calf muscle 2 summers ago and I couldnt run for 6 months- hated that and am still trying to get back what I lost!! so that helps motivate me to stick with healthy eating:)1 -

Welcome!! I dont think this journey ever ends:) one of the best parts of being 40 or 50 I think is recognizing all the amazing things our bodies have handled over the past several decades! Part of my motivation is still vanity hope that part of the journey ends at some point. But also a major part is wanting my body to be as healthy as it can be for the next several decades. Your story is inspiring and I certainly dont think of failure after reading your post:)2 -

Good to know! Luckily I am not an ice cream lover (fried and salty is my weakness) but my husband loves ice cream. I buy 'light' sometimes and he hates it (I think it tastes the same as the non-light but he lets me know that I do not have the refined ice cream palette that he does!)2 -

So funny - I can have a bag of potato chips in the cupboard for a month lol. Sugar all the way for me!

Yeah icecream is my vice but I do have to say there is a soft spot in my heart for potato chips and french frys.....I have not found any that fit in my calorie budget though so I just have to say no.3

Hi there! I am hoping to join your group as I have enjoyed reading through everyone's posts! I am 42 and have been struggling with my weight for nearly half my life. I have restarted so many times. I have had a few medical set backs (hypothyroidism, cancer, and menopause) and I was determined to not give up this time back in January.
I was doing well with staying near 1200 calories and walking. I thought I was losing weight. But six weeks in, I had lost nothing. I was bummed but was going to not give up again. Then my husband had to have surgery and I was doing it all at home with 4 kids and stopped taking the time for MFP and my walking. And now, with the stay at home situation, I am at a loss with how to manage everything and how to stop the emotional desires of carbs that help me feel good.
My stats are:
Exercise - Walking and Stretching
Exercise Goals - Running, Weight Lifting, Dancing, PiYo, Les Mills, Kayaking, Bike Riding - I want to feel like I am really enjoying my life which I haven't felt in a long time.
Height -5'3"
Current weight - 193 lbs
Goal Weight - I don't know anymore. I used to say 130 lbs. At this point, I just want to lose something, ya know? 😄3 -
Hello Everyone...
I have enjoyed reading your stories and find this groups’ dynamics to be most closely representative to what I feel would be a beneficial support group for me. I am looking for a method to provide additional motivation, accountability and support in my journey of weight loss and health improvement. I am more or less new to MFP... I downloaded the app in 2011 and logged my weight a few times over the years (always either just before or after the Christmas holidays), but otherwise never used it. I told myself in February of this year that you just don’t see old people my size... and I would rather not do social isolation by a vertical displacement of 6 ft. - so this what initiated my weight-loss/health improvement journey. I have been telling myself for many years that I would do this, but never really got anywhere with it - too many dinners out, business lunches, parties, etc.
I started this endeavor on February 5, weighing in at 349 lbs. Funny thing is, I don’t feel like I am appreciably overweight... I am 6’ tall with a large frame and carry my weight fairly well. I am muscular and agile. I don’t generally see it in the mirror - but when I see myself in a photograph adjacent to much smaller people, I look like a giant. I have lost a significant amount of weight since then - down to 302.0 yesterday morning. During February, I only used MFP to log my weight and check caloric content of foods. I never really explored the other features available. I started using Noom March 4 and found it provided a needed boost in my focus on diet and exercise. I am still learning how to diet and exercise since I have never really done this in the past. I have always been very active, I just have never called the activities exercise. Noom has some positive characteristics, however the group dynamics are very weak. That doesn’t necessarily reflect the experiences others may have, just that the group I am NOOMing with lacks in participation. With NOOM there is a group you are assigned to - there are no messaging boards like there are here.
Well, a few days ago I found myself loosing focus on my weight loss goals, stumbled on the messaging feature when looking into modifying settings on MFP and was surprised to find others willing to provide mutual support. That evening I posted to a few threads - all individuals looking for mutual support - and only had one reply. That person joined a group for support. I have looked at the threads in the support groups section and I don’t feel posting a date/weight every day is the right motivational path for me. I do like the dynamics of this group and think it would be a good fit.
An important caveat - I am 56 and I am a male. I did notice that this group was comprised of only females. The only reason I am posting this here is I feel this group best represents what I am looking for in a support group - thoughtful conversation, good dynamics, and a strong group of participants.
Let me know what you all think... if anyone feels they would rather keep the group all female, or perhaps I am too old, please let me know - and no further explanation would be necessary.
Thank you for reading this far - sometimes I tend to ramble when I write. I look forward to your response.5 -

Wow! I feel your frustration. Sounds like you are doing the right things- so super frustrating. Is your husband doing ok? That is a lot to handle!! (I also have 4 kiddos:) and a husband with heart issues so I see a little bit into your window- what are you kids' ages?) I think your goal of enjoying your life is the most important one❤ hang in there!2 -

That is amazing progress! Must feel good to be on the verge of a major milestone. Congrats on that! You like Noom then, as far as process?2 -
Yesterday was a win. I didnt eat THE candy !! Whoo hoo... small step but I will definitely celebrate it. M&Ms have been a go to.3

Good morning everyone!! So happy to be part of a group who have similar struggles. I’m 44 yrs old, weigh 144 and have the goal of getting to 125. I workout all the time, now I’ve really been doing a lot of running since the gym is closed. My weight will go from 142-145...it sucks but I’ve got to keep pushing..WE ALL HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING! I do log in daily what I eat on the app...which really helps me out a lot. I would love for us to be able to do virtual workouts, share recipes..anything to help keep us on track. I look forward to becoming friends with you all. Let’s push each other...4

Is there anyone on here from Texas? Perhaps DFW area?0

@PedmomJill Yeah I dont really like to cook. I bake. My husband does the cooking so I struggle because the only things I like to cook are high calorie, high carb, comfort food casseroles. So all else fails I make scrambled eggs. It's just as easy for me to drink a protein shake..🙄 I know I need to exercise more, mostly because I have a desk job and that's just not healthy. I need to find a goal fitness wise or I just dont have the motivation.1
