What nobody tells you about losing weight

- Enjoying looking at myself in the mirror
- Buying clothing which stops above my knees and liking what I look like when wearing them in unexpected photos
- Being able to hike up mountains and feel great (instead of like I’m dying)
- Not having to wear shorts under skirts anymore because of chub rub
- Not having to wear a crop top over my bra everyday to keep my boobs in place and help back fat rolls
- Sitting on plane/bus/train seats and having room
- Not being sweaty and gross all the time
- Wearing short sleeves because my bingo wings are disappearing
- Being able to wear my husbands sweaters
- Constantly taking too big clothing to the changing room cause I’ve got smaller than I realise
- Having to hold my pants up with a belt
- Leaving too much room when passing by people because I’m smaller than I realise
- Being able to wear multiple layers of clothing without feeling like a mashmellow
- Being able to grab tops at the markets and they fit or are oversized without trying them on
- Underwear no longer digs into my sides
- Having my husband demanding to feel my muscles every other day34 -
Realizing how much money i save because i dont buy snacks, drinks, fast food. Wow 👍18

That most of the "skinny" clothes I kept as motivation to lose the baby weight, I would never wear again even though I now fit into them. What I enjoyed wearing at 28, with an active social life, is not what I want to wear now I'm at home with two kids. It was nice to try them on, and to feel an achievement, but buying new clothes is more fun than wearing old impractical, uncomfortable ones. I have no idea why I kept scratchy skinny jeans for 4 years, or a strappy bikini that kids pull down in public.20

That you will set off alarms in the hospital when they hook you up to a heart monitor because your resting heart rate is so low. Not because you have a heart condition, but because you are in really good shape.20

Everything seems to change. Before I avoided mirrors, but since losing 120 lbs, and getting into better shape, I love mirrors...I'm become somewhat of a narcissist (gotta be careful on that score..._). And the real surprise, was that since losing the weight, my heart health has improved, as has my circulation...mentally though, my ....sexual libido and desire....has exploded. TMI I know, but there it is...

All my clothe fit nice, some a little loose, wow this is wonderful when everything I had I could not breathe when I wore my clothes, had to unbutton jeans and stuff all the time, especially in the ride home from somewhere.11

You gotta drink TONS of water to keep up with activity and even increase sodium intake if you have lowered your blood pressure a lot like me.7

Padded seats become much more important 😁13

Bra shopping did not get easier. I still have a proportionally large bust, and it's actually harder to find my cup in the right size because apparently manufacturers think that if you have a small band, that you must have a C cup or smaller.17

I have noticed people who met me after weight loss treat me so much better and it's easier to make friends due to the confidence boost. Some of the friends who knew me when I was obese will constantly judge what I eat. They think I am a dinner a way from obesity again. What hurts the most is the comments some of them make referring to how I used to look saying that I looked so bad or gross. Especially male friends, the comments are so harsh. Thats why I am closer to those who I have met after I have lost weight, and I am marrying someone who I have met at a healthy weight. He's seen me lose a lot of weight but I met him at a healthy weight a few years ago.43

Some of your friends and family members will not be supportive.
Right?! Like what's that about? I thought they'd be happy and I still heard comments such as, you must be sick (I'm not). That amount of weight to lose is too much for you (it wasn't). Today eating doesn't count (it does). You need to eat more....B**** this is what a proper serving size looks like! not that mountain on your plate.

One for me was nobody told me that once I got close to my goal weight, I would have to argue my case that I still have a 6lbs to lose! So many people keep saying that I don’t need to lose anymore, even though I’m still just outside the healthy weight range for my height. I’m sure they’re being nice and it’s because I’ve come down from a much larger size (5 stone down), but it’s frustrating having to justify myself.
Yes! I always get comments like that too; it's so annoying.9 -

hahaha yes! I hadn't noticed I was doing it until someone I was sitting next to at work pointed it out. I've always hated sitting on a chair the "normal" way (childhood trauma, sort of) and I couldn't cross my legs when I was bigger.6 -
Loose skin. I'm 80 lbs into what will eventually be 120 lbs lost. I'm able to get out and jog now and really enjoy it, but I'm hugely self conscious of the flap-flap-flapping of my wings. Some of you know what I'm talking about. lol
Most of my loose skin is around my stomach area and if I don't secure it properly (by wearing tight work out pants) it freaking hurts sometimes!11 -

Right?! Super annoying! and then their feelings get hurt too if you stick to your guns! Like its not even about them but they make it out to be.8 -
How you can reach your goal weight and still want to lose more...and more...and more. And pretty soon you stop setting a weight goal because you are never happy with what you see.
Then realize you have an eating disorder. Yep. Because that's what happened to me after obsessing over calorie counting and perfecting my body.
Be wary, folks.
I don't think I have an eating disorder... but the minute I stopped obsessing over calories or dialed back exercise (from 13.5/week to 7.5/week) the weight just came back... now I'm back to being 33 lbs above weight goal, which I had already reached (took a 99 lbs loss to get there).11 -
This is a “what no one told me about weight gain”. .
I am now five pounds away from what I was when I got married 36 years ago. At the time I was the very low end of normal weight.
I sincerely wish, that after the second kid, when I felt ugly and fat at 145, that someone had pulled me aside, hugged me, and said, “it’s OK, you’re still in normal weight range”.
No one did, and I let myself go because I was convinced I was destined to “become my mother”, because we all do, right?
If this reaches one young woman or mother on this forum, and gives her pause about beating herself up, it would be a golden thing.47 -
I didn't know that I'd be having trouble with my dishes. Soup bowls and cereal bowls are too big now.13

I am down 161 lbs from my peak weight and just 18 lbs from goal. So this is a great topic for me.
Pros, and these definitely are bigger than the cons.- I am healthier and feel a whole lot better.
- I can do so many things I could not before, for example I used to have trouble walking 300 ft to the mailbox, now I hike miles in the mountains.
- I look a lot better, I used to avoid mirrors and cameras, not anymore. I have no good before pictures, but plenty of after.
- Clothes that fit are easier to find, cost a lot less, and look good.
Cons, and yes there are some.- My life and relationships have changed in ways I have not fully adjusted to. Long story here, but I am working on it.
- I am getting bony, sitting is less comfortable.
- I have traded fat for sagging skin, a good trade, but I wish my skin was tighter.
- I get cold quite easily.

^^This! I was on vacation last week and complained about exactly the bony part! I am getting very bony, especially around my shoulders - I have collar bones! And its much more obvious that I don't have a thyroid anymore, too.
Padded seats still aren't as necessary for me because I still have an amply padded "seat", but that's genetics in my case; most women on my dad's side including my aunts and almost all my female cousins have the wide hips from my dad's mom.
Another comment on the bony thing: the other day I was standing in my underthings in the bathroom getting ready for the day, and was lifting my hair up to put in a clip when I noticed these two bumps showing up on my lower chest. I paused, felt them, and realized I was seeing my rib cage - AND I noticed that I could suck my gut in way under my rib cage for the first time in forever? I looked at my numbers recently and realized I've lost 13" off my waist; its just hard for me to see that because of the saggy muffin top. I'd really have a silhouette if it wasn't for the saggy muffin top and lower apron *sigh*
I invested in several pair of tight workout pants and capris because when I started walking and doing cardio, all that saggy skin bouncing around was quite uncomfortable.
However, the cold doesn't bother me, but heat and humidity do. However, I think that's my hormones there. I actually dread July and August.7 -
I never knew that I could eat SO MUCH and still lose weight by eating clean. This morning: 2 eggs and 2 egg whites scrambled with onion, tomato, zucchini, spinach and peppers with a little goat cheese on top. Half an apple on the side and coffee with cream. A little over 300 calories and I'm STUFFED.
I also never knew what clean eating actually WAS until recently. I burned myself out on salads, because I thought that's what healthy eating required. That's not it. There's so much more variety than I thought, and I'm really loving it so far.18 -
- how much your body will hurt as it 'shifts' back to where it is supposed to be.
- How much of a love hate relationship you will have with your new body. Loving you lost the weight and hating the excess skin and trying to hide it.
- Looking in the mirror and not 'seeing' what you really look like, only seeing the old you.
- YOU HAVE BONES!! hehehe14 -
How cold you get without a thick pad of insulation

@RelCanonical This subreddit saved my LIFE. I am small around with a large cup. https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/
I tried it out, they have brand suggestions for each shape/type of breast you have. It's seriously made bra shopping a lot more eye-opening.

so enjoying the post. funny, insightful, and reminds me that i am not alone in this thing called life. Thank you all for your post.9

LOL, I'm experiencing this more often. Lately I don't even like the smell of a loaf of bread.. I've tried a variety of breads but I have to eat carbs to stablize my weight.

My favorite junk foods don't taste the same and I don't get that mental statisfaction. It made me ponder my emotional habits which I'm currently exploring and monitoring
The SAME thing happened to me, none of my junk food or even fast food smells the same way it used to. I genuinely don’t even want to eat it so I don’t.

That community is great! It's how I found out I'm a DDD, and I've continued to be a DDD because I've stayed rather proportional as I've lost weight. I'm in that annoying spot where I'll probably end up going down one more band size before I hit goal, so I don't want to invest in bras yet. I'm cheap, lol.6 -
Looking in the mirror and not 'seeing' what you really look like, only seeing the old you.
This!
I'm 5 pounds from my goal weight of 125 pounds. It's hard to explain this but I still fear seeing a number 20-30 pounds higher every day when I get on the scale. It's so weird. I know I've almost made it to my goal, but my brain still doesn't accept that as true.
And, seriously, my stomach feels just as big as it did 62 pounds ago and I'm fearful that it will never look the way I want it too. I think that I will need to lose 10-15 more pounds to lose that stubborn fat.alligatorob wrote: »Cons, and yes there are some.

On a happy note, my behind has shrunk a lot because of my walking regimen, however, now my tailbone sticks out and I need to sit on super cushy chairs.
And....I'm so cold all the time now--like bone chilling, can't get warm cold.
