@globalhiker thank you for the wishes... I will need them tonight, and some inner strength not to dive into the bottle. I would be exhausted too if I did your workout! I took an hour walk this morning before heading off to work, this always helps my mental state. Hubby will be out tonight, so being alone, I think I should try and get another walk in when I get home to take my mind off the bottle. This usually does the trick.
@shorepine it is so wonderful of you to bring your horses out for them to see. I am sure they are so happy to see you and the horses, something to fill them with joy.5 -
globalhiker wrote: »Aye, think how we feel here in Vegas @MissMay it's like yes we depend(and welcome) people from allover the world yet right now it's scary and I'm shocked really that people are traveling that far, cases are going up and I don't want to shut down again, think AZ and FL have shut some things back down already 😔 6:14 am in Vegas another 24 💖 have a fab day peeps!
In AZ, they tell us hospitals are close to reaching capacity limits. Ugh. So far only seeing gyms and some restaurants shut down but only short term, for a day or two, for deep cleaning if an employee tests positive for Covid. We're in trouble because mask use is not mandatory in many places and just yesterday I think I was the only shopper with a mask on in the supermarket.
We've been having customers walk out due to us asking them to wear a mask🙄 look how close we are to each other doing a haircut! People piss me off,it's easy to say"they can go somewhere else then" but we also need the money! These have been long time customers too, unless states enforce it as a law then I think we'll be seeing less masks,my hubs is one of the ones who don't like wearing one and thinks it's all overblown hoopla,he makes me wanna scream😤 everyone's gardens look beautiful! I did some a few years ago and had tons of tomatoes but that's it,very hard to grow things here if you're lazy like me,7:23 am in Vegas another 24 💖,hope everyone has a great day!
You are right about wearing a mask, when in close proximity to another person these days is essential, and indoors a must. I still have one client that will not let anyone in their home...not even their own relatives that live in the same town. They will meet with them in their drive way at a distance. Sorry your husband is being that way, must make it difficult to be on the same healthy page. And still you checkmin with another 24 AF in Vegas. Your amazing.

@looneycatblue : very sorry to hear sad news - sending wishes for strength....
Who is the trainer in that workout? I do all the Beach Body workouts and love them. Congrats on your AF days.3 -
@looneycatblue I'm sorry for the bad news about your family friend. This time is so hard for older people, especially those in care facilities. I've been volunteering at a memory care facility here, bringing my horses. I walk around the building and let the residents look at the horses through the windows. It is so heartbreaking seeing them all inside, unable to receive visitors. They are so happy to see the horses though.
This experience has led my heart to just ache overall for all the people in care facilities who cannot see family.
That is so cool about your horsres being therapy animals for the facility. They must appreciate that so much.4 -
looneycatblue wrote: »I am still here... been quiet lately, but still lurking I actually got 3 days AF in a row... that is a big deal for me right now. I poured a tall one last night, which was planned... and I didn't go back for more. Drank water after that. Feeling good this morning and proud of my control over the drink.
Got some very sad news last night, my 2nd Mom, Eileen, (she was my Mom's best friend), passed away yesterday. She would have been 98 in July. I have known her all of my life, she was part of the village that raised all of the children on our block. Now there is only one of the block's parents left, and she had to be put into a nursing home this past week. She has Alzheimer and due to the Covid situation, her children cannot visit her. They also can't tell her about Eileen, she wouldn't understand why she can't go to the funeral. I don't know yet how or if they will able to have a funeral with all that is going on.
So with this news, I would normally keep the drinks coming until I crawled into bed, and pass out. But I am trying my best to be more present, and let the feelings and thoughts come.
Your gardens are beautiful to look at, thank you for sharing these, it put a smile on my face.
Thinking of you as you work through the loss of your dear friend. 💔5 -
Thursday already, how is that possible? All I know is I plan to stick to my June goal of much fewer drinks than May and April.
13 more days/nights to accomplish that.
Day 17 of June / 16AF8 -
@MissMay thank you for your kindness... I took a long walk in the morning and evening yesterday, I needed this time to think about the ones we have lost. As we get older (turning 62 this Oct), the losses seem to be adding up so much more quickly. I truly wish that I had recorded some of their stories, there were so many tales to tell.
I stayed true to myself, and let the feeling and thoughts flow without any spirits to soften them. I am doing fine now, just feeling a bit melancholy.6 -
Hello everyone. I feel as if once again, I didn't get enough sleep last night. I've been staying up way too late the last few months. I've just been reading or writing, and unwinding after putting my kids to bed.
I think I need to focus on getting to bed earlier, and seeing if that helps my general energy levels!

So far in June 12/17 days AF6 -
I am Dawn. Turning 60 in September.
I live in SE BC, Canada.
I started on this thread November 28.18 - at that time I was having drinks every day. That first AF day was very hard! I vowed to have 1AF day per week to start, then progressed to 2AF days per week etc.
My goal now (that is working for me) is 16-20 AF days per month. I have been keeping within that since last October. I am comfortable and happy with that goal.
I have never ever been able to exceed 3 drinks or I throw up. There is moderation for you : - P
I log in here every day with a running calendar/journal of the month at a glance. It helps me.Monday June 01.20 - AFWednesday June 17 - AF - Delayed and delayed, had an NA beer on the porch.
Tuesday June 02.20 - AF - Very long, very stupid day, my first back working for a company that I loathe. This is why i always designated Tuesdays as my drinks days in the past. However, I am coming toward the end of a 100 day weight challenge thread, and that is my motivation to stay "dry" for at least the next 5 days. In the previous round of it I lost 1.7 pounds in 100 days. Hoping to lose 2 pounds this time. (I know, painfully slow, but better than gaining, and it really does get more difficult to lose weight with aging.)
Wednesday June 03.20 - AF - Really wanted drinks after working hard in my yard. Didn't.
Thursday June 04.20 - AF - Ditto to yesterday, really really wanted a couple of drinks. I hate being back to work, and thought a couple of drinks tonight would relax me. Hanging tough to hopefully lose another 0.02 pounds over the next few days.
Friday June 05.20 - Having a couple of drinks. My last half hour digging and planting seeds was raining. I decided there and then that I would have a few drinks tonight. My weight was up 2 pounds today for no reason, so sacrificing having drinks really didn't appeal to me today. I have had my half a drink from my freezer lol, and have just poured a second. It is nice for me. Watching "Caribbean Life" on HGTV where they are always having yummy looking cocktails, and I am happy to not be white knuckling it resisting having some drinks today. All good : - )
Saturday June 06.20 - Hadn't planned on a drinks day, started out at a friend's place (who is a wine drinker) with water, and then caved. First time to have 2 drinks days in a row since the beginning of the pandemic. I will get back on track.
Sunday June 07.20 - AF - Feeling back on track, I think that I just wanted to be self-indulgent for a couple of days. Next planned drinks day is Wednesday or Thursday.
Monday June 08.20 - AF - Browsing holiday trips for my 60th, could be a pipe dream, who knows if travel will be possible in September. Watching too much HGTV (Caribbean Life, Bahamas Life, Mexico Life, Mediterranean Life, Beach Hunters etc.) and getting wanderlust.
Tuesday June 09.20 - AF - Had a horrible workday, as in every Tuesday now that I am working again for that one company (still layed off from the others at this point). This is why Tuesday were always my designated drinks day. Toughing it out, I will have drinks on a happier day...this week.
Wednesday June 10.20 - AF - Had an N/A beer on the porch, really did not do the trick. Had a good scale victory this morning though, so I am abstaining...today. Half way to my 16. No Mojito girl parties at my place just yet.
Thursday June 11.20 - 3 drinks - Started out on my porch. Very nice. Now to string together some more AF days.
Friday June 12.20 - AF - Got the lawn cut and more work done in the yard before the forecasted couple of days of rain. The sky was getting pretty dark by 6pm. Felt like having a drink after working hard, just didn't.
Saturday June 13.20 - 3 drinks. Not a planned drinks day. Brilliantly sunny with the threat of thunderstorms for 2 days in this region. At about 3pm the sun disappeared and the winds kicked up like crazy. I felt like having drinks on my covered front porch to watch it, but got dressed and went out in my car instead to do some shopping since it was no longer bathing suit weather. I delayed another 5 times after getting back home, but finally caved. I did not accomplish my 2 days in a row AF which I like to keep as my rule. Can't say that I didn't love having a Brandy on my porch with the wind howling and the skies swirling. That was hours ago. I should drink some water so that I feel okay tomorrow. Nothing important happening tomorrow except for some of my favourite shows on the radio and more forecasted storms. I am going to savour my morning coffee in my jammies : - ) (If the neighbours don't like seeing me on the porch in my jammies they can look away)
Sunday June 14 - AF - I had company this afternoon, coffee drinkers. Nice to know at least a few people who don't drink!
Monday June 15 - AF - My Tuesday jobs have now been cancelled for the remainder of June and July, I only will need to contend with working for that company on Thursdays now, still layed off from my other companies. Intending to work out lots, play in my garden lots. Perhaps I will have drinks Thursday night, we'll see. No plans to have drinks before that.
Tuesday June 16 - AF - Begrudgingly. I made up a litre of Crystal lite "mojito" and drank the whole thing in frosted glasses, that only made me want "real" cocktails more. I ended the night with an NA beer. Really would have rathered to have drinks.
Thursday June 18 - AF - Planning on drinks tomorrow, so as much as I felt like having a couple tonight after a long gruelling day, I didn't. I can wait a day.
14AF days out of 18 days so far.5 -
What a beautiful flower garden @MissMay Very zen like. Great job!
Btw, my favourite YouTube fitness that I do pretty much every day is Fitness Marshall. They are current pop songs, most of which I was unfamiliar with until doing the dances (I had heard the names of the people, just hadn't heard any of their music). Great workout. Some days if I am in a hurry I will do just a few songs to wake me up, lubricate the joints, and get some oxygen to my brain before work. On days off I do many more. I like that it is individual songs, 3 1/2 to 4 minutes, and then on to the next one, so it is always fun for me.
I stopped doing Beach Body once I understood that my Blu-Ray player gave me YouTube, and that I didn't need my hundreds of DVDs and VHS tapes. I really used to like Hip-Hop Abs, one of the Beach Body series. I have not put a DVD in for almost a year.5 -
Thanks for the garden compliments. I did not realize my photo was from very early this Spring when I attached it. When a few more Lilys open I will post another. I wish my plants provided a source of food for me. It is the deer and other critters that give them a taste daily to see if they pass inspection.
I am still in DVD workout mode @dawnbgethealthy. I have no internet hook up where I workout on my property so I have to keep an arsenal of DVDs at hand. I love the kick boxing workouts. Yup even at my ripe ole age.
FRIDAY.....MID JUNE......HOT BEAUTIFUL DAY PREDICTED........plan fo this evening--> no alcohol. Maybe a lovely watermelon kombucha in my copper mule mug( these mugs stay super super cold, even in the hot sun)😎
18 days of June / 17 AF
Inside dining has opened up full force in our state now. Not feeling good about the inside experience with all of the other people from who knows where. Trying to keep husband from his old habit of bar hopping just to see what is going on with everyone. New times, new habits. Better safe than sick.

@MissMay : Mary Fulton Fit....I found her on youtube by searching under Body Pump...the classes seem the same as at the gym with similar music. She does it in her laundry room which is funny.
Body Combat is now on youtube under Les Mills. I used to pay $9.99 a month for that but the class is on youtube for free. I only got thru 10min of that one - it's a real fat burner but intense...2 -
8 drinks/18 days....I'm going to check out Fitness Marshall too...thanks for the tip @dawnbgethealthy ! I enjoyed your garden photos as well!
Goal this weekend is to stay relaxed, avoid Covid, exercise my butt off, and maybe visit our new local Korean supermarket that just opened up. I love international supermarkets. And I don't even know what 75% the food items in there are! Actually, it's a good weekend for some Korean BBQ chicken thighs. It's amazing. If we make it, will send you all the recipe and pix on Monday.
Have a good one!4 -
Sigh...3 posts in a row this month vanished while typing...my garden mint is waist high...bring your mojito fixings...4

Yes!! Her name is Alison. She is still fabulous, but has lost a whole bunch of the fat (from the hip-hop Zumba?). She is a great dancer. He is kind of hard to follow sometimes, so i follow her or Bria or Hayley. Actually there are a whole bunch of others too, but Hayley, Bria, and Alison are the stalwarts of the "show" plus him of course, Caleb Marshall. I am kind of addicted. It never ceases to put a smile on my face and a jump in my step. I am learning about modern music, and moving every single limb and muscle in my body. Love it!4 -

Oh yes. We have a lot of town deer in this little city, they have never lived in the bush, born in the town, the Moms take the babies around to people's gardens to show them where to feed. They mowed down my entire garden one year in under a couple of hours, all of that work and love...gone. The next year I netted everything because they can't chew through that, but it was no longer pleasurable to garden, the tops of the tomatoes would grow through the top of the netting to be eaten, when I was trying to weed, my crazy hair would get stuck in the netting and I would stand up bringing the garden with me and uprooting stuff. The next year I had a big fence built. Back to enjoying my garden immensely. My dill is thick right now, lemon basil, Tarragon. Chives are almost done, all in flower and attracting bees which is so great for the tomatoes and peppers.
Can't wait to see your Lillys!!
I used to love the kick-boxing videos. Good on you! We are so close in age, but I find now that they really bother my shoulders and hips lol. That sounds ridiculous because I am doing all of this Hip-Hop stuff, but that flows without jarring maybe?
I too am hesitant about the inside dining thing. Not for people in the community, but for tourists passing through town that might be unknowingly bringing the virus. The virus doesn't travel, people do. We are at zero cases in our town, I really don't want that to change, but there were so many cars around today, and out of province ones. I had hoped for no "second wave" but with people traveling about I am a bit scared.4 -

Friday June 19 - 3 drinks. I made my first Mojito of the year with my own mint. I only put 1/3 of an ounce into it because I think that my tolerance for alcohol is lower now. It was delish. I use Organic Agave, fresh lime, mint, and white rum, I shake it and let it sit for 20 minutes in the ice and strain it into a glass that I put in the freezer. Very yummy. If I can find some rum extract that doesn't taste like dark rum I will try that. It really doesn't taste as good without the white rum flavour.
Had an awesome day today, very happy, productive and fulfilling. My guitar player came over, we jammed a whole bunch of tunes, drank parsley water and coffee, then he left. I then indulged a little, a few drinks, a samosa, and a chimichanga. Lol, I am chicken breast with veggies every single day, working out like crazy, and rarely losing a pound. Nice to have a day a tiny bit off of the rails (in happiness, not stress). Back to chicken breast, veggies, water, and no alcohol tomorrow : - )
14AF days out of 19 days so far.6 -
Ugh.....how can a beautiful day turn to shitz in less than 24 hours? And I remarkably stayed AF through the whole thing. Some people live for drama, create it, seek it out and then bring others into the quick sand. I do not, I steer away, avoid and know if I start drinking during an out break I will become a screaming banshee and be that person I hate most, my drinking twin.
Husband was having a bad day at work, texts me his present drama senerio(brought me into the quick sand).
After work we are both home, I go out to water my gazzilion plants and wilting lawn.
He screams at me when I get into the house for watering (I notice his tequila bottle level has dropped dramatically)
I try another approach to get his mood better. Patio music night(orders MORE straight up tequila but seems in a good mood)
We get home and all his consumed tequila wanted to escape in a 2 hours blasting of my moral character.
# 1 on my list of why I drink less. To keep in control and not become another pawn in this game.
Day 19 of June / 18 AF
