Hope you all had an awesome weekend.
Somehow a water balloon battle broke out at the 9th birthday party. Everyone was soaked when we were done. Gotta' act like a kid sometimes. 🎈💦😁
Father's Day dinner was very tasty and carbolicious. The scale thought it was great, too. Glad that I know that 4 pound spike is temporary.4 -
I finally get to get my hair cut. Yay!!!!! Salons are open! My hair's been driving me bats, but now it'll be ok for another couple of months. And this coming Sunday I get to go to church again! I don't know if we'll be able to receive Communion and I know we won't be able to sing, but it will be wonderful anyway. Yay!!!!3

I have plenty of hats so I cut my own hair
Question: My health adviser says I should restrict my calories to 1100 a day, if I do, MFP tells me I'm not eating enough. Who do I believe?1 -

MFP is an all purpose site that has numbers that work for most people. Don't click the button at the end of your food diary. Just use the diary to keep track of what you eat and how you exercise. Make use of the professional advice and see how it works for you. The most important thing is that the 1100 calories you consume are filled with nutrition so your body gets the fuel it needs to do what you do.3 -
I'm pretty excited. I hit my original goal weight today. I started July 1, 2020 with a 18 month plan to lose 70lbs and hit it today, 3 months early. I expect it will waiver for the next week or so before it dips under & stays, but today is the day I hit it!
I have revised my goal, but it will be at a much slower pace to mentally & physically prepare me for lifetime maintenance, and besides, I leave for Myrtle Beach Thursday...without my scales. Let's see how accurate I am on the logging.9 -

Correction: Since (according to your MFP profile) you're male, MFP really wants you to eat 1500 calories, minimum - that's the lowest MFP guided setup will give anyone. (It will give women 1200 as a minimum). For either, it will maybe still let you close your diary if somewhat lower, but those are the numbers MFP recommends to get minimum nutrition.3 -

It was a new (for me) salon and the cut wasn't at all what I wanted, but the lady who cut my hair was so impressed with my weight loss that I gave her a larger tip than I had been planning. She was good for my further weightloss/maintenance anyway. My hair is cooler for the heat and will grow.

Hello! I am 63 and need to lose 30 lbs, friends & motivation. Not good on computer so I need help using the site. I am trying to walk with my dog when I can. I no longer feel safe going to gym. Open to all suggestions.3

Hi Everyone.
I'm here to lose 15 pounds I've gained in the last 5 months. I'm beginning to emerge into the overweight bmi group and I feel it. All the fat has gone on my middle and upper arms.
A week of logging calories has already made a difference to how I feel about myself, as just getting on with doing it feels good.
Btw I'm 70.2 -

I lost 50 pounds using MFP and a thread like this one. I don't go to a gym. I log all my food and seek ways to get more nutrition for fewer calories. I walk my dog, walk with friends, walk alone and seek every opportunity to be active (e.g. putting folded laundry away one item at a time). If you like this thread, come back to it every day and share what's going on with you and read about what others are doing. Consider your weight loss journey to be a matter of life and death, which it is.

Thanks guys, appreciate your words of encouragement!

I use the "one item at a time" laundry tip too, although when hubby scratches his head, I just tap my fitbit watch and he's like, "oh....yeah...".4 -

Welcome. I am 74 and my husband is 74 with several high risk health conditions. He stays home except to drive to the bank or pharmacy drive through. We have many things to do at home to keep us occupied. We have just accepted that staying home is what we do. We live in a neighborhood with roads that make walking easy. It's easy to keep a good distance from others. I have limited my shopping to one grocery store. I did a huge shopping at Costco a month ago, hoping that I could buy enough so i wouldn't have to go back again but then I found out that I could buy only one case of canned dog food. Fortunately, I have two friends who go to Costco from time to time and each one picks up a case of dog food for me. Right now I have enough canned dog food to last until August. I do all my other shopping at one grocery store. I have had to pay a bit more for a few items that would have been cheaper at WalMart, but sticking to one store has been more important than saving a bit of money. We bought a few things from Amazon that I couldn't find at the store.

Just in to say "Welcome" to the new folks! I'll put some tips/links at the end of this message.
Nothing much is happening here, still! Other than an epic battle with a pretty big wasp nest under the eaves near my sliding door, all is well. (OK, not epic, but another one of those annoying day-to-day things that come up in normal adulthood and Must Be Dealt With. Like my destroyed mailbox, which is still not replaced. But I'm getting close. I think I have all the parts now. ).
I'm still not exercising as much as I'd prefer myself to be, but the scale is behaving pretty nicely: As intended, I'm still losing those few vanity pounds so slowly that I would hardly know it without my weight-trending app, like around a pound a month. No reason to rush, at this point: I do like my food, and the occasional craft beer.
Again, welcome and much encouragement to those newly joining us. And encouragement, too, to those who've been here for a while, but are getting a little discouraged or burned out. Slow & steady wins, and sometimes it's needful to pull off the highway for a rest, on a long drive. So, take that little sensible break, then hop back on the highway when refreshed, for a little more progress. We can all get there!
Now, some tips for those newly arrived:
Best one-post MFP starting point info is in this thread (don't be put off by the title ): http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1
After suggesting something like it on multiple threads, I wrote up in detail the eating approach I used to lose around 50 pounds at age 59-60, after 30+ previous years as an obese person. (I left out my false starts and mistakes ). That's here:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10636388/free-customized-personal-weight-loss-eating-plan-not-spam-or-mlm/p1
I've maintained a healthy weight for 4+ years since, pretty much that same way, and now the slow loss mentioned at the beginning of this message. If it matters (I think it doesn't ), I'm also severely hypothyroid (properly medicated).
There's a long discussion here of people's ideas for adding more movement (non-exercise movement) to one's everyday life:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10610953/neat-improvement-strategies-to-improve-weight-loss/p1
Exercise, too, is a great thing (though not the only thing). It's a complete myth that exercise needs to be intense or miserable in order to have benefits, or that exercise only happens in gyms or on machines. Any kind of enjoyable movement we do regularly can improve fitness, if it's just a tiny bit of a physical challenge. Walks (including things like birdwatching/walking), active play with the grandkids, gardening/carpentry projects, and more, it all matters. We each start where we are, and progress in fitness gradually, and we'll amaze ourselves with what we can achieve in the long run. It's not necessary to make like an Olympic athlete on day one. Just start by moving more, in enjoyable ways, and build up.
Finally, here's my usual flowers-in-my-garden photo (Pinkroot, a.k.a. Spigelia marilandica), with apologies to those who aren't fans:
