Rebecca love the Athena and her dog pictures. Drew makes me think about my sister. She would have loved Drew. She always had a dog and it helps me connect to her. She is gone fourteen years now.4

(((Heather))): Getting through tough bits in your life’s story wouldn’t easy for anyone. You have more courage than most people I know. I admire you. Give your DH a big hug from me. Men can be so clueless and helpless when they can’t fix things for those they love. As for you, (and many of us,) now and then we all need a wallow.
margaretturk: You and your son have a very sweet dog. Enjoy! Sometimes we wonder who rescues whom. It is wonderful when you rescue one another. I hope you, your son, and Drew Barry, the dog, are all aware of your good luck to find each another.
Tracey: Good for you, having some time to spend with your boss. I hope you enjoy every minute of you upcoming excursion. :flowerforyou:
Michele: I don’t remember the polio epidemic as it happened either, because I was too young back then to understand. When I got a little older, I remember people who had braces on their legs &/or crutches. As an adult, I had a friend my age who had polio as a chlld. She walked a tiny bit awkwardly but went on to have a wonderful marriage and three talented daughters.
Kim: I’m glad you had a great day with your friend.
Some bozo near the river put off a couple of firecracker blasts. I just heard one behind our house. I’m already feeling grumpy.

Katla I have a scar on my arm from my Smallpox vaccine. I read that's how you can spot a cougar at a bar.
Cheri I love your hair and I love that your husband is your hair stylist.
Allie I am a bit envious of your possible plans to move to Sanibel. So exciting! Sanibel is possibly my favorite place in the entire world. My spouse dreams of living there, and talks about it frequently. I am not sure I want to be that far away from the grandchildren.
Margaret What a darling dog Drew Barry is! I love her!
Heather My spouse is getting less skeptical about my MFP buddies. I think the concept of remote pals seems suspect to many people, though. Tell Johnny hi from me and tell him I'm not a bit scary and that I have a very boring ordinary life. Also that I adore the grandchildren of my spouse as if they were my very own flesh and blood. Just like he does. LOL!!!!! And I totally understand about the golden anniversary. In 2022 my 50th wedding anniversary to my ex-husband would be celebrated. I can see how that might be a source of tears and nostalgia. We are still such good friends and I do love him. I saw him at my granddaughter's swim meet 4 days ago, and he asked if my spouse and I were feeling okay about eating in a restaurant yet, as he was wanting to have a lunch date with us. I know that probably seems weird. Keep talking to us about this, we have broad shoulders and are good listeners.
Rebecca What a tolerant dog! Athena is just yummy.

Anyone care to post favorite zucchini recipes? I happen to have one the size of a small watermelon - a gift from a dear friend.

Well, I finally got son upright! It was a piece of toast with jam and him sipping Fresca. Then a bit later I made him a small turkey with cheese sandwich. Then a bit later he fixed poptarts! Lord, he's cured!💖. Stayed up late with him and we watched my recorded Ghost Adventures series that's entertaining, then watched some videos he liked. I will sleep well tonight.👍💖
Hugs to all that need them!

Rebecca what a lovely dog with so good with Athena. The dog reminds me of our Tara, she was a German Shepherd and absolutely gorgeous natured, unfortunately she had something called degenerative myelopathy (not sure of the spelling) and her back legs stopped working, we did get her some walking wheels which she loved but a few years later she had a stroke and had to be put to sleep as there was no chance of recovery. I loved that dog. I'll have to find a photo of her.
Heather Enjoy your wallow, we all need to wallow every now and then. You made me smile when you mentioned what your hubby thought of your pals on MFP
I had a strange phone call on Friday, a man said he was a detective in the fraud squad in London and that a young man had tried to use my card to buy a laptop for £600 in Argos (somewhere in London) and asked if I had got all my cards, and had I authorised anyone to use my card. When I said I had mine and that I hadn't authorised anyone to make this purchase, he said that I should call the York police as it was out of his jurisdiction, to report it as fraud - I thought this was a bit strange and thinking it was a scam was waiting for him to ask for card details etc but he just said to dial 999 and to do it now. He said it twice do it now. I'd take all his details so ended the call. As I am on internet banking I checked my balance online and all seemed okay but just to be on the safe side I called my bank (from my mobile - he'd called on my landline) and after waiting an age to get through to customer services was told it was a scam and that there's a lot of scams going on at the moment. But what did he hope to gain from this? I could not call 999 whilst he was still on the line (999 is the emergency number and I would have had to call the local number for the police not the emergency number) so a bit unsure of what was going on.
I don't normally answer my landline, but I was expecting a call from the vet, but in future I'll leave it for the answer machine. If it's important they'll leave a message.
A bit of good news I have had a tax rebate. An unexpected windfall, must admit I was a bit worried when I saw the envelope from the Inland Revenue. As we are expecting a large vet bill this month, every little helps.
I remember having the polio vaccine on a sugar cube at the doctors, but that's about my only memory of the Polio epidemic, I think I had to have it before starting school so I'd be about 3-4years old.
Time is getting on, better make a move, waiting for son to return home so we can go shopping, I was unable to get a home delivery this week. Managed to get one for next week though. I think I must have been lucky and got a cancellation slot.
Take care
Love to all

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: : T’ai Chi, meet accountant at firehall, sign Denise’s petition, line dancing at the port, decided to forego the fireworks boat trip, too windy, too cold, too close together.Jumpback July 3 change mindset: I can’t dance Chill Factor… yet
Bonus: massage, got 4 signatures for Sue’s petition, feel I’ve “got” Senorita, Dance Monkey and Need you now/Quarter after one.
Get to do: BB&B video, invest 20 mins cleaning Office, carry over cleaning mins: 30 Bedrooms, 14 mins cleaning Dining Room, 18 Guest Bth, 18 mins Master Bath, 10 Living Rm; call PC guy about mic/speaker, practice new dances (Evergreen, Larger than Life, Here I Go Again/Mama Mia, Real Deal, Get it Right; next week final? Follow up call for Joe’s Dr. appointment, transplant pineapples, bean, melons, cukes; make garlic almonds for Barb and Dan; prep raised bed for carrots, parsley root, parsnips, radishes; finish weeding drive, continue weeding flower bed, mulch flowerbed; Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan fall cool season garden, order replenishments.
Katla forgot to post Joe’s duct tape mask yesterday, here it is. Ditto what you said about Barbie’s Never miss a chance meme and the words “You should…” Don’t have a polio vaccination scar, just a smallpox. But do remember hiding behind a door in kindergarten trying to avoid the shot. Was so grateful when the vaccine became available on a sugar cube. My high school geometry teacher was noticing my very skinny legs and asked me if I’d had polio as a child. I never forgave her.
Lisa that sign! We need one of those!
Lanette makes me mad that surgical staff don't listen when a patient tells them of allergies Surely there are hypoallergenic options to glue and tape!
Barbie you’ve taken experiences that could have ground you down and instead built resilience and wisdom from them. Brava!
Pip wow! All those showings. Just WOW!
Machka my esthetic is dusty books and dog hair.
Rebecca thanks for the explanation about going in to inspect and sign off. Now I understand why your son went in. Would hope the Navy could have enough depth of staff to allow a second responsible party to inspect and certify when primary is so sick. :{ Oh, that Athena Rose and her dog! Hooray for Dr. Mom!
Tracey hope you and Rodger have a wonderful, relaxing, restorative time camping. Really glad you had 45 peaceful minutes with your boss. Hope it will help minimize future struggles.
Heather ((hugs)) Johnny's take on your mfp buddies made me laugh. Joe just shakes his head when I talk about "my internet friends" but I think he's grateful I have you to "talk" to, otherwise his ears would hurt!
Sharon I really like your “when someone is talking about a problem I don’t always know how to respond. I need to practice saying “Oh? What do you think you’ll do?” I’ll start practicing that too. Hard for me to remember that when folk are confiding they need a patient ear not a quick fix. So then of course I forgot and gave Allie tons of unasked for advice :ohwell:
Margaret Drew Barry. Bunnies, beware! You might not be able to outrun that Italianchi.
Allie when you can’t sleep can you daydream? Imagine you’ve already moved, it’s the holidays, how do you feel now about having moved away from your son, Homer, Trudy and your other friends? Then, imagine it’s winter in CT, how do you feel now about having decided to stay? Might not help you decide but at least your body will be resting
Michele didn’t practice click treat today, will see tomorrow if they remember ;}
Debbie pushing a 45 lb kid for an hour what a workout!
Kim great suggestion to allie.
Karen in VA Like Katla, I’d grate the zucchini, steam or saute it briefly, and dress with parmesan, garlic and a little butter or olive oil. Another option is to slice it into rounds about half inch thick, spread lightly with mayonnaise (yes really), top with grated cheese (whichever kind you like best, swiss, cheddar, pepper jack whatever) and bake quick in a hot oven. Zucchini muffins. Freeze grated zucchini for soups in the fall. And my favorite (but not healthy) cut into sticsk, lightly breaded, deep fried and dipped in horseradish sauce. With beer.
Viv weird scam, doesn’t make any sense unless he could somehow tap your 999 call to harvest account info? Glad you were smart enough to use your mobile. I’d be scared to receive an envelope from Internal Revenue, did last year and they wanted $4000+ in penalties and interest, it took months to straighten out the mistake my IRA people made. So glad your envelope bore good news.
Welcome @sarahkatzenelson452, @rthibado66!
Line dancing on the concrete at the port is no easier on my hips and knees than dancing on the concrete in the park, plus it was killer windy. Pooped out early. The wind has been brutal all week and I wish it would ease.

Karen in VA - My recipe for fried eggs and zucchini:
- Two eggs
- Cooking spray
- Zucchini
- Salt and pepper to taste
Break two eggs into a small, non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
Get the zucchini, walk to the back door, and throw it as far as you possibly can without actually hitting an innocent person or dog.
Go back to the pan and finish cooking the eggs to your taste, use salt and pepper at your discretion.
Bon appetit!

Avoid zucchini that is bigger than a newborn baby or bigger in circumference than your own wrist. Feed these to pigs. 🐷Small zucchini is nice sautéed or eaten raw. 😎Medium zucchini is good grated & used in zucchini bread. 😘2

Zucchini- Like many of the other ladies, I try not to buy the bigger zucchini. I find them kind of tough. BUT...if I have one given to me, I will usually shred it and use it in zucchini bread/muffins. If you want to eat it, though, my go to recipes are sliced lengthwise (into strips) and marinated (about 15-30 minutes) in Kraft Sundried Tomato dressing, then grilled. Another yummy way I use zucchini is sliced into coins, then placed on a pan lined with parchment paper and the paper sprinkled (first) with grated parmesan. Place the coins on the parmesan and sprinkle them again with more parmesan. Bake at 375 until golden. They are good alone, but quite often I will use these parmesan zucchini coins as a "base" for a chipless plate of nachos. Add some romaine/lettuce, avocado, pico de gallo, I usually will bake a black bean burger to crumble and add to the nachos. A little hot sauce and some yogurt and I am good to go.3

What's your happy place?
I'm in my ultimate one right now - Saturday morning, when my husband can sleep in. I can just barely hear a snore from the bedroom every once in a while. I'm at my computer, cat curled up in my lap, purring, laundry whooshing in the washer, and to add to the serenity, a small thunderstorm wandering close, but not too close. The occasional light show outside, rumble bumble of thunder rolling down the valley...and the rain is coming down.
Not sure it gets better than this, honestly.
Decided to go ahead and sell our oak dining set. While I love it, it is just one more flat surface to dump stuff on, and we never ever use it. We're going to take the long open credenza from my office and move it where the dining table is now, pick up a formica top and I'll have an eight foot counter at my height to make bread. At the moment, I'm working at counter height, which is about 4 inches too high for me, and on a tiled surface, which is horrible for kneading bread dough. Need a smooth surface.
Corey's also going to put an herb planter box in the large window, so it's easy to reach.
The 8-foot credenza at right is what will become a baking center:
And will be sitting in place of this dining table, which is what we're selling. Egg will not be sold with it, and of course she had an itch just as I took the picture:
If it all works out, the sale of the table will more than pay for the formica top for the credenza. And I don't need all the stuff in the credenza anymore as I'm no longer working, so more things I can pitch. Not worried about whether something sparks joy so much, as whether it's useful or not. That dining table is no longer useful, nor is the credenza. Time to get rid of one and make the other one useful.
Regarding whether things "spark joy," I pushed Marie Kondo off the metaphorical cliff when she said "Keep only 30 books." Yeah, no. I did not buy Marie's book. Which has irony all over it.
OK, time to go put the clothes in the dryer. No hanging things on the line this morning!
Love y'all,
Later,
Lisa5 -
Morning ladies
Oh thank you for all the advice.. i take it all in..
They say the less you have, the less clutter you have..
I have been thinking and thinking.. alot
I have a friend that is looking to buy here and i can leave most of the furniture would take a few of the antiques. But get rid of stuff...
Ive been asking the good lord if this is my next step..
Yes my kids are adults my granddaughter is 12 and i have lots of friends here, and have friends and family all over the U.S. and beyond.
Like you said what if I stayed? I hate winter... i can buy a bike and a holder for Alfie and get out daily on Sanibel to either the bay or the beach.. can get up early for the sunrise and can be there for the sunset..
You all know my personality ,I do have one friend that lives down on the other side of Sanibel,im having him take a ride over to check it out for me and get his judgement..
But even though it might be small, its just me and Alfie. In Paradise every day.. You only live once and I would kick myself for not trying...
Watcha ya'll think?9 -

Allie - I like the idea that you would be well away from people who continually take advantage of your loving nature, and able to be where you love to be. I know you love the coast now, and to have coast on all sides can only be better. The choice is yours to make, but I can see the yearning in your post. Only you know if you can afford it and if you're willing to live in tiny accommodations in order to obtain that dream. I also know that you're strong enough to choose, because you've done so before.
Trust yourself,
Love,

Feeling much better today, having shared my woes with you ladies and with friends and family. My brother rang me back straight away and an old friend, who was my bridesmaid, and who was very involved with my marriage throughout, has been WhatsApping me.
It's just good to have realised what was going on with me. And good that at least some people understand.
Re MFP, I do get cross with DH when he says things like, "you don't know who these people are", or "you can't trust anything anyone says online", "they could be anybody".
Grrrrrr! To me that's implying that I'm an idiot. I trust my own judgement more than I trust his.

Thanks Lisa- you are the voice of reason...and you have done alot in the years ive known you.moved all over the place..
Yes I would miss my kids so much but i see so many of you all living away from your children and grandchildren. Thank goodness for technology i can stay in touch... Ct will tax me to death florida doesnt have that...will fly down next month for a weekend and check it out..2 -
Heather, You are more brave than I with the way you delve into your past. I keep mine in the past and use only the lessons I've learned and leave the experiences alone. My husband has grown to enjoy my friends on MFP. Sometimes he'll ask as how you all are doing and if I have any good stories. He knows some of you by name.
Allie, I think you are already doing what I would have suggested to you. You are writing about the advantages and disadvantages of moving and staying. It has to be based on what you value most. No one else can decide for you, because they will use their own values to color their response. For example, if you asked me, I'd answer based on my own opinion of Florida and my own opinion of being near family.
I remember throwing up in the doctor's office because I was so terrified of getting a polio shot. It wasn't until I was an adult that I understood that my uncle had died of polio as a young adult when I was three years old and my mother was terrified that her children would suffer the same fate. I also remember being very resentful years later when the oral vaccine came out, that I had to suffer with the shot.
Bessie spent the night on the floor by my side of the bed again last night because of fireworks. Fortunately they were over by midnight.
About zucchini, the little ones should be sliced and steamed for a healthy and tasty side dish and the big ones should be cut in small chunks and put in the compost bin.

Did a Jeanette Jenkins Core Strength DVD. This is mostly stretching. The plan for tomorrow is to ride the recumbent bike
Katla – did you know that the Candyland game was first invented for the kids in polio hospitals?
Karen VA – I’ve become friends with these ladies on a mahjongg site. Vince calls us the MML’s – Midnight Mahjongg Ladies because we usually play late at night. To me, it’s just relaxing before going to bed. Dogs are very tolerant of small children. I really think they know. I remember when Jess was a baby we had a 120lb sheepdog. She, literally, put her finer up his back side. He just walked away. She would pull herself up on him and he never did anything. One time she poked him in the eye and said “eye”. He walked away. Now if I brushed him the wrong way I got growled at. I like to make pineapple zucchini muffins:
Serves: 24
If using 20oz can of pineapple, double recipe. Make in 2 batches.
Don’t rise much
3-1/4 cup flour (use 1-1/2 ww and 1-1/2 AP)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2t baking soda
1/2t ginger
1 cup carrot, shredded
8oz pineapple, crushed, drained
1/2 cup canola oil
1 cup oatmeal
2t baking powder
1/2t salt
1 cup zucchini, shredded
1/2 cup raisins
2 eggs
preheat oven to 400
In large mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and ginger
Stir zucchini, carrots, raisins and pineapple into flour mixture
In a separate bowl, beat eggs and oil. Add to flour mixture and stir only until ingredients are moistened
Fill greased muffin tin 3/4 full
Bake 18-20 minutes.

3g protein
23g carb
1g fiber
16mg chol

Happy Fourth of July everyone who celebrates
Allie – can you take a vacation to Sanibel? While there, you can see how you feel if you moved there. Update: while you’re down there, see how you feel. I love when we go to FL,

Barbara yes agree as watched her chase rabbit out of son's fenced in yard. So the only time she will be off leash outside is in son's fenced yard. She will never be unsupervised in that yard either especially with I now call her Busteena in the yard behind us across from the alley. She was the pitbull who threatened me. I do have mace and corrected that low spot on the wall with plants. I feel for Busteena. Son has a small yard that is perfect for Drew. Busteena's yard is half the size and she is 4 times as big as Drew. Besides that the yard is now taken up with a big tent and a puddle pool they leave covered so she doesn't even have that. I am aware this can make her even more of a threat because she is not given the space she needs. She is their only dog but there is a lot of coming and going of adult children so it is a busy household. The also leave her in the yard unsupervised.
The reason the owner's gave for giving up Drew is she was peeing and pooping in the house and they were renters. They also had another large dog, two cats, and a seven year old. With the three to four walks we do with her and out door run time in son's yard. It is so fun to watch her chase a toy. No accidents. I saw this with our neighbor mixed Chihuahua. Wendy had another dog to contend with that bullied her, a two year old, a house full of smokers and shamed when she peed in the house. I think seeing that helped me know what to do with Drew. Her one bad habit is over kissing you in the face. I am now rather than laughing and smiling when this happens is to calmly put me hand in front of face and not react. She is already slowing it down. An occasional one is fine and I do enjoy it but not everyone does and as she meets friends I want her to be successful.
Katla you are correct who saves who. DH was not totally on board but as she is worming her way into his heart I say she even loves grumpy old men. Last night I called her a traitor when she went to him and not to me. LOL
Son almost wanted to pass on her because of potty issues. I said I will deal with that I want to go get her.
Now that the likely hood I will not go back to subbing I have the time to give a dog the attention they need.3 -
And a 10th ... Deep, deep sleep!

Do you take Vitamin D?
I think you've mentioned before that you don't take much in the way of vitamins and minerals, but Vit D is one that isn't commonly found in food ... it comes from sunshine and if you're not out in the sun each day, you might be low.

And I thought the 18 months I've gone without a "real" vacation was long. By "real" I mean ... no work, no uni, and away from home.
