Yikes 😳 that’s not including them paying to get themselves home!

Amber,
They were supposed to be on a 100+ day long cruise. Those are NOT cheap. I believe they are waiting on the refund for that, not that they were billed for all the days stuck at sea waiting to get in to a port.

I stuff and bake big zucchini or marrows. With ragu or chilli.
Machka - Yes I do take vit D3, for that very reason.
Had lots of support today. I'm pleased I reached out instead of trying to bury it.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
PS - Just heard back by email from my ex. He said it was amazing that it was 50 years! He had thought about the date, but not the year.
He and his family are all down in London and he hopes to get to see my son and family. I wonder whether I will catch a glimpse.
I remember so well his parents ' Golden Wedding party. In the village hall with loads of family and friends. We had a long, shared history. From the day we met, on my first day at university, my 18th birthday, we were totally together and engaged 17 months later. We married before my graduation, so I missed it, and went away on honeymoon. Camping in France for a month.
Nice he replied.

Viv UK, one of the things they do is call a number to see if it’s working with a call that seems legit, then have someone call at another time with the fraud call. I think you handled it perfectly.
Rebecca, the Athena and dog pics are beautiful and fun. I had a lovely silver tip German shepherd named Vixen with my first husband. He got the dog in the divorce and I got the father of my two eldest girls. If it weren’t for having the girls with #2, I’d have preferred Vixen in the long run - although the first 4years were great. Oh! And I also giggled at the little old church lady with a basket of large zucchini vision.
Regarding polio vaccine, I found out a few years ago that like our DTP, we need a booster in our later years. And MMR too.
Allie, you could always take in couch-surfers at $25 or so a night (after the virus, of course)(hint hint!). How much would you have to pay a month compared to house pmt, real estate tax, etc? And would your tax return be changed without mortgage interest and property tax deductions to help you itemize? Good grief, if there’s another unit available I’d sure check it out! I’ve actually explored the Ft. Myers area for senior living apts, but found I was too unsure of how big and crowded Ft. Myers had become since 1966, the last time I was there.
Welcome SarahKN452! Your zucchini treatment sounds a bit like mine except I use a jarred red pasta sauce of some sort and add some other veggies like bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, or whatever I have that doesn’t need long cooking.
I will miss the big fireworks show this year. That makes me sad, because I love a good aerial show almost as much as I love holiday lights. I’m sitting here cohabiting with my cats and feeling sad that I literally have nowhere to go today. Being safe is great, but at 77, I feel I only have a couple of decades max to do the fun stuff.

Does anyone have a dessert recipe that uses a lot of egg yolks? I have 12 that I’d like to use up. Only thing is…it can’t be something chocolate.
Michele NC
Not a dessert, but hollandaise sauce is one of my go-to's for egg yolks. I make it and store it in a jar and use it during the week.
Carol - The beaches in the Los Angeles area are closed this weekend and the freeway between there and San Diego was bumper to bumper yesterday afternoon. :-(

Lisa, I lol'd at your recipe for fried eggs and zucchini! As I'm at work that could have created issues, but my co-worker is out doing something so that part was good. Also laughed at you "pushing Marie Kondo off the shelf" but 30 books? Seriously???? We have probably got two authors alone that have written 30 books! And I do re-read them.... Needless to say, books are important in our house!
Barbie, About zucchini, the little ones should be sliced and steamed for a healthy and tasty side dish and the big ones should be cut in small chunks and put in the compost bin. LOL
Barbara, I know it's a few days past now, but have you tried telling Joe that he is only confusing Tumble when he whistles for her when you've got her on the leash and are trying to teach her to heel? I think your angry outburst was a reasonable response to his action, you may not feel it was your proudest moment (probably not, but...) you were injured because of it.
Allie, I know when you weigh the pros and cons you will make the right decision for you. I do think Kim had some good suggestions tho, it might be a good idea to vacation there for a few weeks just to get a feel for the place and look into possible job options.
Baby pics! They all just make my heart melt! I must post some pics of the grands, they are growing so fast!
I have been reading and am fairly well caught up, but no time to comment til today. My eating has been not great, but not horrible either, my exercise ditto. Trying to get more exercise in, but some days its tough. The Y that I was going to is set to re-open July 16 with lots of safety protocols in place. We have to reserve a time, can only arrive/line up from 5 min before that time and only have 5 min after that time to get in the door, then they lock it and you are out of luck. They are also putting the price up, considerably! I was paying just over $30 per month, it's going up to $50! I get it, they've lost money in the past 4 mos and are trying to support their programs but.... I will pay, just have to grumble about it a little.
Took my bike in for a tune up, probably won't take it there again, just took it to the Canadian Tire store where I bought it from. A free tune up was included if I did it in the first year. Anyway, I'm not sure what I expected, but they tightened up the brakes and I almost put myself over the handlebars as I wasn't expecting it to grab like it did! lol Fortunately I was not going fast and was gentle on the brakes, but WOW, just WOW! lol There is a bike store a reasonable distance from our house so I would be able to ride down there and then walk back, so that's where I'll go next time. It's a cheap little bike, perfect for me, the professional bike guys might not even want to work on it! lol We will see next year....
That's it for me for now, hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

The Fourth of July here has been so noisy in the past few years that we’ve gone to out of the way county parks to protect our dog from the bangs and blasts. We aren’t doing that this year. Things have been fairly quiet so far. Because of the Covid Virus worries, the city decided to move the fireworks to much later in the year, during the annual Christmas Ships visit to St Helens. I am so grateful for this plan. We'll be able to enjoy the fourth of July without worry for our dog, and we'll have a festive celebration for the Christmas Ships parade. I look forward to it.

In June I hit my 10% weight loss mini goal. Woohoo!!!
July's goal is to continue to chug along, losing 2lbs a week.
Not off to a good start... on Thursday, I took my longest walk ever - over 3 miles, high intensity! I expected to see the payoff on on the scale (my calories were under target too)... But I went UP .6 LBS. ARGH!! So frustrating... my motivation took a hit. 😒

Getting a few things done at home today and doing some reading. Have put goats and horses out in the back pastures. There have been bangs and booms for the last few nights. Sure there will be lots tonight. The kid across the street has been setting up in their field most of the day. DD and I were invited to a party at my nephew's place but are not going. Being in a large group does not appeal to us nor the fact that there will be a lot of drinking.
We did take a road trip 2 weekends ago with son and DGD to SD to scatter DH's ashes. It was interesting to see the difference between WA and SD as things open up. SD did not ever really close down. No one at the hotel in Deadwood wore masks and the pool was open, no limit on numbers. Mt. Rushmore was open and also Crazy Horse. Montana was kind of in between, less mask wearing than WA but more than SD. Wait staff in Montana, some wore masks and some not, seating was spaced. Rest areas and C-stores with gas had only a few people wearing masks.
Katla - Glad this will be an easier day for your dog.
Pip - Wow, glad you have the airstream to camp out in while all those people are going thru your house. Good luck with the sale.
Lisa - just a word about morning glory. If you are still thinking of getting some critters for your property be careful where you plant it. It is poisonous to grazing animals.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -

Kim – thanks for the suggestion for the pound cake. Plus…that’s something I can give Steve to take home
Allie – a friend of ours came back from FL and he was saying that they’re stopping everyone at the FL welcome station, I’m assuming asking things like “where are you going” “how long are you staying there” “what is your reason for going”. But another friend of ours who lives in FL said that he was asked the questions, but then he had no problem going into the state. But you won’t have a problem since you’re flying
Karen – that 12 yolk pound cake sounds REALLY good.
Went in the pool and my sunglasses broke. So went to WalMart. Wasn’t sure if they’d have the rack of sunglasses out, but they did. I got a pair like I had, wraparounds that are polarized. After dinner I’ll probably go back in the pool or the spa. Too hot for a walk
Went in the spa and pool then took a shower.
Nite all.

Happy 4th of July all. Didn't do anything exciting but did get four door frames sanded and primed. Will paint tomorrow. My husband had replaced most of the, but the frames in the hallway are the original 1956 pine. I can't stand using a mitre saw (actually, I like the saw, I find mitre cuts challenging). I just want the frames white to match new doors I'm getting put in. Figure if I end up hating the job I do on it I can always pay someone. Just seemed like a waste to get rid of the wood.
Barbara-evidently for COVID 19 one of the treatments involve getting blood from survivors who have the antibodies and someway they give it to a sick person. Not sure of the technical points but have heard it discussed. Evidently is successful in some cases.
I had the liquid form of the polio vaccine. Ironically, the old school gym where I got is is now county maintenance building at my complex. My DIL mother, while a child in Iran, developed polio after receiving the vaccine. She has become more crippled as time went on and she has had great difficulty the last 10 years or so.
I got my small pox vaccine on my back instead of my arm. I remember it having a plastic cup type thing over it to protect it. They did that so I would have the scar on my arm. Have no idea if I have a visible mark from it.
We have just had a nice heavy rain move through.Don't think it will do much for the heat but my grass can certainly use it. I gave a passing thought to watering the front yard but that has always struck me as wasteful for vanity.
DIL is now permitted out of master bedroom. No one else in the family seems to have any symptoms. With the way things are in Arizona they aren't going for any testing unless necessary. I guess their whole system is getting overloaded.
Karen in VT-not unusual to see a small bump up a day after some exercise. Really a pretty normal fluctuation.
Just had a great FaceTime call with son, DIL and grandkids in Arizona. DIL looks very good. Kids were very excited for "fireworks" tonight (I think they got some sparklers).
Off to bed. Take care all,

thanks for the suggestion/reminder about the zucchini- I stuffed mine- used ground pork, marinara sauce, eggs, rolled oats and seasoning- Son tried it and said it was good- not sure if him and his girlfriend will have it or not. Husband saw it and said he thinks he will make a sandwich.
I made my "ice cream sandwich"s using fat free cool whip(but Safeway brand), PB2 powder, mocha powder mixed and used graham crackers. Wrapped them and they are in the freezer now- not sure if they will freeze enough for tonight- if not, I will enjoy them tomorrow. Even junk foodie husband and son both like them too.1 -
Vaccines: I had smallpox on my arm (still have scar) and polio in the sugar cube. I had one dose of measles, mumps, rubella, and was in the age group where they hadn't realised yet we needed two doses. So I'm pretty sure I got measles in 2016 (I got a full body, unexplained, very measles-like rash which surprised two doctors), but just in case, I got the MMR vax last December. Then I got the Shingles vax in January. My tetanus is up to date, and I was vaccinated for several things (yellow fever, etc.) in 2012 because of our 8-month RTW trip. And I've had the flu vax the last couple years.
So ... if there's ever a vax for C19, I'll be in line!
Online Friends: I've been a member of several forums over the years. I started with a diabetic cat forum because one of my cats at the time became diabetic. Unfortunately there was a very overbearing individual who thought I (and a few others) were doing it all wrong. The day she posted that she sat up till 2 am or something typing a long, long message (which filled the page) to me to correct me on everything I was doing wrong, and that her husband didn't understand her need to do that but she thought it was vitally important ... I had a good laugh and dropped out of the forum. As it happens, my diabetic cat who was 8 at the time went on to live to 16 years old and thus far was my favourite cat, my little hugging boy.
From there I moved into cycling forums which have generally been a better fit for me. And it was on one cycling forum where I met my husband. I posted that I was planning to ride the Paris-Brest-Paris in France in 2003 ... a 1200 km randonnee with a 90 hour time limit including all breaks. He responded that he was planning to do the same thing. And that was about that. Then in August 2003, at the last control (rest stop) on the ride, with about 100 km to go, I was walking through a hall or gym or whatever it was with a plate of green beans and mashed potatoes when someone called my online name "Machka". I wondered who on earth would know that name ... and it was him! We chatted a bit and then went our separate ways but got to know each other online, and a bit in person over the years that followed.

Also went to a department store a little further away ... and won't likely return there any time soon. Too busy. Too many people not social distancing. Mostly elderly ladies who act like they are completely unaware of anything unusual going on. And packs of young guys wandering everywhere. Last time we were there, before C19, security removed a pack of them so this seems to be common behaviour in this particular store. But we got a few things we wanted ... and left the store as quickly as possible.
I've been on the hunt for button-up shirts but they are surprisingly difficult to find. I saw a few linen shirts, but they're too scratchy for me. I saw several that are really short and that style doesn't suit me any more. But nice, smooth, hip-length button-up shirt in a colour other than white just aren't popular right now. Also, I don't want to spend much on button-up shirts since I don't really like them ... but I need to wear them for the next month or so.
M in Oz
Mission accomplished!
Went to our usual department store and had a much better experience. I got myself 3 cotton button-up shirts on sale. And I didn't have hoards of people following me around.
So I'll have something to wear to work when I return somewhere around the end of July, maybe early August. Unless we've had a second wave.

I use zucchini (courgette) in an Italian type soup with tomatoes, pesto and borlotti beans. Here we call large ones marrow and these are stuffed but I’ve never used one.
ALLIE good luck making your decision on moving, I’m sure you’ll get there you are so strong.
HEATHER glad you’re feeling better. Nice memories of your early marriage.
MACHKA glad your op went well here’s to happy breathing
Although pubs reopened here yesterday DH and I didn’t venture out. Apart from the lack of social distancing which was inevitable there would be no atmosphere. We don’t go out primarily for the drink but for live music, chat a dance maybe (that’s just me DH doesn’t) Will probably be a while before we go.

Hi All - jumping onto this thread for the first time. I'm 53 from Auckland NZ - looking to loose 1 pound per week in July. Its moving into the coldest part of winter here now - not that 8 degrees Celsius is that cold compared to other places with real seasons 🙂. Good luck all - Sarah5

Viv UK: I also had the polio vaccine on a sugar cube. A knew a number of people who had polio. Mostly slight limps, but one girl in school had a brace and couldn’t do PE. I had all if the immunisations as a child. I also have BCG (smallpox) scar.

Re MFP, I do get cross with DH when he says things like, "you don't know who these people are", or "you can't trust anything anyone says online", "they could be anybody".
Grrrrrr! To me that's implying that I'm an idiot. I trust my own judgement more than I trust his.
When people say this to me, I look them straight in the eye and say

Hello everyone.
I haven't visited in 2 days and there are almost 170 posts. Will reply individually as I can to catch up with everyone.
Allie - Happy for you to think about the Sanibel/Fort Meyers area. I will say the sticker prices in Florida are very high. Studio apartments in decent areas in SFL run from $1,200 to $1,800 per month. The west cost does tend to be a little cheaper. If I were to rent I would make sure the owners prepped the buildings/windows for hurricanes when required. Many here do not and the renters are left on their own.
Pip - That's fabulous news!
Lanette - Love the flowers.
Margaret - Congratulations on your new family member. Hoping to see a picture of her in future posts.
Barbie - Great advice. I am slowly but surely training myself to be a better listener and provide advice when one is receptive.
Only 150 more posts to go!
