Heather - So sorry you are feeling the blues. And, as you have read it's best to feel what we feel and move on.
Margaret - She is precious! Congratulations on your new family member. And, yes, meant to be.
Bandages - With me it's the latex version of any type of bandage. Or extended wearing of anything latex (such as medical gloves). So many people are sensitive to latex I do not understand why doctors and hospitals continue to use it.2 -
Lisa - just a word about morning glory. If you are still thinking of getting some critters for your property be careful where you plant it. It is poisonous to grazing animals.

Its moving into the coldest part of winter here now - not that 8 degrees Celsius is that cold compared to other places with real seasons 🙂. Good luck all - SarahIn June I hit my 10% weight loss mini goal. Woohoo!!! July's goal is to continue to chug along, losing 2lbs a week. Not off to a good start... on Thursday, I took my longest walk ever - over 3 miles, high intensity! I expected to see the payoff on on the scale (my calories were under target too)... But I went UP .6 LBS. ARGH!! So frustrating... my motivation took a hit. 😒 💜 Karen in VT
Karen in VA - so good to see Phoenix, what a cutie!
In my happy place again, but without the laundry.

Karen in VA - My recipe for fried eggs and zucchini:
- Two eggs
- Cooking spray
- Zucchini
- Salt and pepper to taste
Break two eggs into a small, non-stick frying pan over medium heat.
Get the zucchini, walk to the back door, and throw it as far as you possibly can without actually hitting an innocent person or dog.
Go back to the pan and finish cooking the eggs to your taste, use salt and pepper at your discretion.
Bon appetit!
I still wish there was an LOL button on MFP!4 -
SuziQ You make such a good point. Many surgeons do still use latex gloves, although nitrile gloves are the norm in most other parts of hospitals/EMT/police/doctors' offices. At least powdered gloves are no longer allowed. And the other issue is - even if you don't end up with adhesive bandages after surgery, many hospital ORs generously apply Betadine (iodine) on and around the body part being operated on, and then use adhesive surgical drapes to create as sterile an operative field as possible. Even though it's washed off after surgery, there are still traces of both Betadine and adhesive on the skin for hours or even days after the operative procedure.

Machka - When I had breast biopsies done quite a few years ago I had to wear bras 24/7 for 2 weeks. I found a couple of sports bras that zippered up and clipped up front at Walmartians. Since it's winter there maybe flannel and/or men's shirts?1

I want some shoes like Phoenix!
DH in a huff this morning. Bad mood from waking up and then an argument over how virus policy should be approached. He gets very upset and tearful. I'm just going to ignore it. He just takes a while to get over it. I will keep my mouth shut, though I have LOTS to say. He doesn't always know why he is upset about something, but most of it is insecurity.
Otherwise I am feeling good.

I found a few bras like that, and wanted one or two, but none were in my size. Unfortunately many of our stores are having trouble getting stock these days.
I had purchased 3 men's flannel shirts right at the beginning of the shutdown and will likely wear them around the house and on casual Fridays if/when I return to the office. But today I got 3 long-sleeved business-like cotton shirts.

Good morning ladies!
A short sleep last night due to house-shaking booms which lasted until nearly midnight, scared dogs and the whole bit (even tho pups were doped up with CBD), but the good news is that thankfully most of the neighbors saved up their fireworks for last night - only mild booms the previous week - and we are hoping it won't continue tonight.
Regarding masks: I've been busy the past couple days hand-sewing face coverings. (Sewing machine on the fritz.) There's a state-wide masking order going into effect July 7. I found colorful printed lightweight scarves at the dollar store a few weeks ago, and it only takes a few minutes to cut them into squares or larger sections for doubling/tripling, hand-stitching channels on the sides to snake elastic through and voila. I can actually breathe through them I think they'll be good enough to keep me compliant while whipping through stores. (I try to shop when there are very few customers).
In fact, my nurse/walking buddy bought some of the scarves too and is making some for her and her hubby. They both have breathing issues and she nearly passed out in a store last week from wearing a surgical-type mask.
Depending on how many layers of thickness, we can get 4 to 6 coverings out of each $1.00 scarf.
Regarding spiders: Here's a fun fact regarding poisonous spiders in the Pacific Northwest. There are 2, one of which is called a "yellow sac spider". This past week, two of these white spiders crawled out of the colorful phlox flowers I brought into the house. So much for that, I'll admire phlox in the flower beds from now on. It's the first time I've seen them around here although they seem to be more common in Seattle-we are around 100 miles south. It sounds like their bites are mild, but still - stay in the garden, little ones.
OK ladies, time to get going. Make it a wonderful day!

They had the big fireworks display up at the school again. Police did not come and shut it down. DH and DS went to watch. Drew and I saw some through the trees in the upstairs window and listened to calm music she did great with all the noise. She made a friend or should I say tried to with neighbors mix Chihuahua. He has been an only dog and didn't quite know what to make of Drew exuberance. Neighbor said Drew's coat fells like cashmere. It is her Italian Greyhound roots.
Scale starting to go down. I guess that's what four weeks a day will do. I have her 7 at night til 11:30 around lunch. Then off to son's and she stays there until 7. This gives me a chance to come home and do a few things while she bonds with son. I do have her crated in the car. My sister would let her dogs loose and they would sit in her lap when she drove. Too dangerous to do to son's. We almost saw a firetruck T bone a car at an intersection last night. Last week it was almost a police car. Son only lives 10 minutes away but it is a ten minutes I need to focus.

Finished vacuuming the house including removal of cobwebs in the corners, dust on the baseboards, and even some of the curtains!!
Washed the towels, floor mats and a sofa blanket. They're all hanging on the drying rack here in the dining room. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so they couldn't go outside.
Hopefully that removed much of the dust.
I'll do the dining room table, computer monitors, and part of the kitchen tomorrow so my work area is all fresh and clean. And it is supposed to be sunny Tuesday - Thursday so I'll do my clothes and my bedding.
My husband and I got out for a walk today but we're both tired these days.
He is recovering quite well from his surgery and I had a look at the blister/hive which came up from the bandaging. It doesn't look to be infected, and does appear to be healing, but very slowly. It looks much worse than the incision!
Today, as we walked, I tried to tell him what would be happening with me and he gets most of it, but there are a couple things which he's just not grasping ... the main one is that I may not feel like doing much in the week after the surgery, and in fact, I'm not supposed to do much for at least 2 weeks.
Since his accident, he struggles with the idea that I get tired. Apparently I'm supposed to have an never-ending supply of energy.
So he keeps telling me that I'll be up and about and going for walks with him and working with him in the garden etc. etc. the day after the surgery!! And every time I tell him that I probably won't be doing those things, he gets a bit upset. We'll see how things go.
Personally, I'm looking forward to at least a week of doing next to nothing!!

I was awake from 10 PM to 1 AM with Bessie while the fireworks boomed outside. She stayed on the floor by my side of the bed and I was able to put her blanket on her and give her another small blanket and Jake's shirt for comfort. I played music and podcasts on my phone and she was able to go back to sleep. I stayed awake. When the fireworks finally wound down about 12:30, I waited awhile before taking the dogs out for their middle of the night potty break. When we came in both dogs enjoyed their treats and got in the dog bed together to go back to sleep. That's when I went back to sleep.

Hi Sarah -
I'm 53 and live in Tasmania. We've got similar temps although today hit 15C for some reason! They were predicting 10C so I was a bit surprised when I checked this afternoon.
But rain and snow down to 800 metres tomorrow.

Barbie: Love the “Back to Work” message.
Pip: I’m betting the realtor and you will end up with a bidding war. :flowerforyou:
Karen in VT: Congrats on meeting your mini goal!
Sue in WA: Yesterday was the fourth of July and our dog had no difficulties. There were a few booms across the river in Washington, but they didn’t bother the dog. Thank goodness! The fireworks in our city will happen in November or December when the Christmas Ships parade comes here.
Sarah from Auckland: Welcome!!!! :flowerforyou:
Terri Richards: “On the other hand, YOU could be a figment of my deranged imagination!.”
Lanette & Barbie: We had a few booms across the river in WA, but they weren’t as awful as previous years and the dog wasn’t upset by them. DH thinks the dog may be getting hard of hearing. He’s an old boy of 12, going on 13 later this month. I went to Safeway yesterday and then stopped by Walmart. Every single person in both stores was wearing a mask, employees and customers included.
(((Machka))): I hope all goes well with your surgery. It seems to me that your DH thinks of you as Wonder Woman, and with good reason. You have been amazing since his injury. Now it is his turn to be care giver. Perhaps he can take on one or two things to help you as you recover, such as bringing you water or tea, or doing a bit of tidying. :flowerforyou:
Fireworks rerun: The dog did well. He was not upset by the few little bangs that we had from across the river in WA. DH thinks the dog is getting deaf in his old age. I have noticed that the dog is more likely to follow hand signs than voice commands.

Rode the recumbent bike today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
Amber – when I have a need for chocolate, I always have some kisses or Dove or even a chocolate meringue cookie. I also have found that dark chocolate satisfies me more than milk chocolate
Went to Food Lion early this morning and got Vince ice cream. Didn’t realize they sold a low sodium bacon so got that and a few other things
Making more yogurt now. I like to really drain it and then make more pops. We’re running low
Sarah NZ – welcome to a great group
SuziQ – great advice to Allie
Allie – be sure to check out nursing homes/assisted living places in FL, too. You’d be very good there.
Pip – great news!
Will ice the cake I made last night for Steve and then off to the pool

We have agreed to finally think about getting the living room redecorated. Now the EXTREMELY difficult business of choosing paint colours. I've been browsing the internet for ideas, but it's difficult when there are two of us with different ideas. We will probably end up with something 'safe' instead of something more adventurous. DH doesn't read decorating magazines. I read at least two a week! We can't afford new furniture, so it's a compromise at the best of times. I have to admit that I find it extremely hard to make decisions, even for myself.
Well, at least the subject has been broached. I can't see it ending well.

Allie: Friends of ours moved to The Villages in Florida to be near their daughter. They rented an apartment for awhile to see how they liked it. They loved it & put their home in Washington up for sale. They’re still happy there and have avoided storm damage though several hurricanes. While you’re in Florida I hope you’ll take a look there.

Heather- the mister thinks he has an opinion on decorating, but we don’t have the same taste. So I gave up trying and our home is pieced together like a bachelor pad. We have never even had a headboard. I just decided I’d rather spend the money on travel than furniture. That said, we really need to paint the house inside and out and I usually convince him to see my way on paint colors.

Immunization . I completely believe in preventing rather that reacting. I have the smallpox scar and remember the sugar cubes polio vaccine. I’ve had the hepatitis shots when working at the hospital in the late 90’s early 2000’s. I’ve had flu shots every year since starting work there in 1997. I’ve had 3 different shingles vaccines, and pneumonia vaccine too. So when COVID come available I will get that too!
Fireworks no legal fireworks and Yearly Alien Festival canceled for here in Roswell. It was quiet here last night but we and rangers were prepared for problems. Thankfully nothing much happened. Only a couple who decided the closed signs and no trespassing signs didn’t apply to them because they were from out of town, and went swimming. DH caught them and made them leave.
Sunset and moon rise last night.

Heather - I am the safe one in our relationship. I have been thinking of painting our kitchen/dining area and living room. I looked at some paint chips the other day and couldn’t see anything I really liked. Until I do I’ll just leave it as is. I have a lot of other ideas too, but have more priorities before we can do the fun stuff.4

WELCOME NEWBIES!
Barbie I forgot to thank you for starting July! I have not been noticing what month it is…or date…or day of the week. I write it down every day, but still cannot remember.
Viv Did it go by slowly? I am not sure it was ever here? Sometimes this year seems to have been forever, and other times it seems like one very long day.
Lisa Levi and Daddy are adorable!!
Kelly I want to go to your day care and play in the mud and eat watermelon!!
SuzyQ Congrats on the loss! You are doing so well during quarantine!
Machka I love your post from the morning of the 1st. So much great inspiration!
Carla Sorry you had to wait to see your new G-babies! So glad you are getting to see them now!
Rita Looks like that lizard could do some damage with his tail! I miss seeing the lizards everywhere when I lived in Florida.
Carol Hope the spider bite didn’t react anymore. Some of those can get nasty! Glad the stinging calmed down!
Heather Your diet is so much different than anything I’ve had here. Is UK food that much different than US? Or are you just a really great cook… (I know you are from things you have made).
Karen Thank you for looking up Canada Day for me. I was not remembering the origins of it.
Debby We used to have lots of those black snakes in our yard in Florida. They were usually 5’ or longer. I would think it would startle you when you have poisonous ones around, too!
Cheri So glad your tx are finished!! Sorry to hear that the hormone replacement is giving you icky side effects. Hope those pass soon! If figures that one would be weight gain when you are trying so hard to lose!
Cathy Adorable Grands!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th! I huddled up with a glass of wine trying to ignore that neighbors on either side were shooting some really big illegal fireworks very close to our trees and house. I have some PTSD, and fireworks in an uncontrolled setting are not my favorite. Fortunately, my puppy did okay with them and we spent the evening together. DH was around off and on (although he chose to watch a violent TV show so the combination was not any better).
I love seeing everyone's pictures, whether family or beauty around you...it makes the quarantine much more bearable!
Occasionally, I catch her when she's not smiling...lol:

Katla- yes the villages is a huge senior community in the middle of the state ,it has its own, police, fire depts, grocery stores. Etc.... nowhere unfortunately near the ocean..and thats where i want to be...ive been going Sanibel for years and the last time was when i was there in Dec of 2017....thats when you know what hit the fan and was my last trip to Florida...
I am writing down a list of pros and cons and will once i go there again see if it will really be what I want.

Luci - There isn't really one diet in the UK, as there isn't in the US. It all depends on cash, class and region. In the past we had a reputation for dull food, but times have changed. I cook every day from scratch. That is unusual I think.
