@marisap2010 that is a cool medal! Great cause as well.
@HonoNui what an awesome picture of that turtle. I laughed at the zoom call comment @shanaber . Totally
@Tramboman interesting, thank's for sharing your classification system. I would say in my mind easy pace is probably slow (most days), but slow might not be easy.

It is hot today. Currently 92 feels like 98. I went out at 7 am for a short run with my friend when it was only 72 but already feeling plenty hot. We had a lot to catch up on so the time went pretty quickly but it was definitely not the most pleasant.
I got home and did a quick shower and change and headed out to go kayaking. Being on the water was lovely. There was a pretty good wind on the lake so it didn't feel nearly as hot as 90 degrees out there. Not a bad way to spend a hot day and as always I'm now trying to figure out how I can live on a lake and spend all my days like that.
Time to hide in the AC for the rest of the day and hope we don't lose power because of the high demand.

@Tramboman Thanks for the explanation. You're paces are great. I wish I could get there. Especially for an easy/slow pace.
@marisap2010 I too love the medal and it's a great cause.
@katharmonic Sounds like another great day for you. It's the AC for me this afternoon too. It's currently 90°F here too!

I’m still lounging about with a low grade fever resting my knee - got out for 5k mostly running, it was 97 feels like 123 when we finished early in the morning, yikes! At that heat I probably wouldn’t be running much anyway.
My husband allowed me to share the little comic he made for the ISS-20 race last week, which I walked while he ran. It’s only fair that he gets a comic to himself since he wasn’t in the mile challenge comic at all! He also wanted me to thank @quilteryoyo for pointing us to this race.10 -
I did get up earlier than normal this morning so I could get in a run before virtual church. I had hoped to get going by 7:00, but it was 7:30 when I headed out the door. The temperature was 75°F with 78% humidity. Similar to Thursday, except Thursday's humidity was 84%. I mention that because today's run was a whole lot less miserable. I think the biggest difference was that I decided to "pretend" I was doing a really long run and stop for water and M&Ms after a couple of miles and then every mile thereafter. Since I had only planned 4 miles (which I cut to 3.25) on Thursday, I hadn't thought it necessary to hydrate during the run. I was WRONG. When it's hot, I need to remember that stopping and drinking IS IMPORTANT, even on shorter runs.
Since I was on a time constraint, I decided to run for an hour, easy pace. I managed to get in 4.5 miles and felt like I could have gone further without dying, had I had the time, evidenced by the fact that I was able to increase my pace the last quarter of a mile and still had some left in me when I was done. I also walked a mile.

@rheddmobile Those comics are fantastic!!! I love them.

SUNDAY UPDATE - Pastor Vincent vs Boston!
For those new/or with short memories I recently hired a coach to help me run faster - with the original goal of a BQ in 2021 (thanks to all the mess around COVID-19 and etc, this will probably be delayed but still a future goal). It is probably an unrealistic goal, but I am not getting any younger, so going for it. Several people asked to be updated on what the coach has in for me so I post each week what the coach's plan was, and what I actually did.
So here we go:
DAY :::: PLAN :::: ACTUAL
Monday :::: 6x3 mins @ Lactate Threshold :::: Worked late
Tuesday :::: Rest Day ::::: 2miles warmup, 6x3mins, 3 miles cool down
Wednesday :::: Rest :::: 11 miles
Thursday :::: 10 miles :::: 10 miles
Friday :::: Rest Day ::::: 15 miles
Saturday ::::: 12 miles :::: More work on greenhouse
Sunday ::::: 6 miles ::::: Wimped out
Total Miles: 45 running out of 36 planned
This was my first week back to training after injury. Was surprised at the low (36) miles, but my next actual race is the 10 miler in November (assuming it happens) so I have no ultras to train for.
Today was supposed to be easy 6 miles, but the temps were pushing into triple digits and there were thunderstorms on the radar with "dangerous winds and hail" so I wimped out and ate cookies instead. I think that is a win really.7 -
Hahaha @PastorVincent Cookies for the win! Love it.1

I ran 10.5 miles today. I intended to get up early so it wouldn't be too hot, but I just couldn't. I finally got out the door at 6:56 so just barely before 7. 😄 It was already 77°F which was actually cooler than most of my runs this week. But the sun was out and even though it was pleasant enough to start it did get pretty warm and was 82°F feels like 86°F by the end. But even though it was hot it was still a pretty day.

I've been very lax about logging my running, but not so lax at actually doing it! It was all going so well until the middle of the month, now my times have collapsed. I was chasing substantially under 6:30 minute kms, and I'm suddenly back at 7 min kms, feeling like I'm just slogging away. I'm not sure whether it's the weather (it's not been massively warm in London, but it's been very close), the new yoga practice (I'm doing very much beginners yoga) or if I'm under-fueling as I'm now chasing my last 5lb to goal. Any which way, I've dropped my longer run from rotation for now. I'll re-assess in a couple of weeks.
Looking at my total current for the month, I'm wondering if I'll make 100km this month. That's only another four 7km runs. I think I'll call it a stretch goal!
Goals for the year:
1. Get back down to a decent running weight (currently set at 160lb)
2. Run a sub-60 minute 10K
3. Run a race this year, hopefully.
Current races planned:
14/06 Lincoln 10K - Postponed. Running for fun instead
17/10 Autumn Richmond Riverside Run (10K)
01/11 Lincoln 10K - new date. Here's hoping6 -
Hi! So I got my spin bike and so far loving it. Even my son got in a ride.
I use the Peloton app for the classes and they are awesome.
I've been doing a 20-30 min class, and then running on the treadmill. I feel like the run on the treadmill is better as I'm already warmed up from spin class.
Today, 20 min spin and 6 Miles on the treadmill. Best part, beat the heat. Today is the hottest of the week so far, I woke up to 78F feels like 84. It's going to get to 96-97 feels like 105-110 this afternoon.
Those running in this weather are rock stars! I've done it, and know how it feels. I'm glad I have options though!
Great comics @rheddmobile !
Welcome to the new folks!8 -

July Miles To Date: 29.5 miles
Ran today using the Peloton App. I love having someone tell me what to do since I definitely push myself more than usual and also, focus on my form. It as 87 but felt like 93. I should have gone earlier but it was a live class. It was also geared towards a treadmill and I did it outside so I just adapted.

So I am a little disappointed that I only got a small window to shoot NEOWISE, but I am very happy I was able to pull something from it. This was shot at 300mm F/5.6 ISO3200 and shutter around 3 seconds. And I was setup under a lit street light. But I was racing clouds so did not have many options.
I will just have to wait 6,800 years and try again

That's cool @PastorVincent
@hamsterwheel6 sounds like the spin bike is a great option in this heat. Enjoy!
@rheddmobile love the comics
Good job @hmaddpear. It certainly could be heat-related, or any combination of those factors that is decreasing your pace but don't let it worry you. Consistency is the key and then when things cool down you'll benefit from having just kept going.

Pretty hot again here today. I did not want to run this morning and I needed to get going on work, so I put it off until afternoon. I planned a meetup with a friend but she had to cancel. I had just walked the dog so I was pretty hot and definitely not feeling motivated, so I decided on a whim to give the Zombies, Run app a try. I was somewhat skeptical although I know some here really enjoy it. I headed out on the shady trails and found the first part not so compelling but I kept it running. I really should not have chosen the trail I did because there were hills and it is very technical in spots with lots of roots and rocks. When the chase part hit though, I found myself making a run for it. Running through the woods with no one around on this trail where I had to watch every step was kind of fun and got the heart pumping for sure! I didn't expect the chase to go on quite so long, lol. I managed to pick up my pace quite a bit, going from a 13 minute mile to like a 10:30 minute mile, which is way faster than I would normally do that trail.
Anyway, I found it a fun diversion to get my mind off wanting to quit running because it's hot. I'll give it another try I think.

Well, turns out the treadmill that I was going to look at was 14 years old 😱
So the search continues...4 -

Assuming you are in the northern hemisphere... it is hot. You WILL slow down. The level of effort you put in to reach 6:30 is now the same level of effort needed to reach 7:30 (or whatever). If you keep pushing the same LEVEL OF EFFORT when the temp had humidity break your speed will still have improved.
Pretty much anything over 60F (15C) starts cutting into your performance. How much varies highly depending on many factors (shade, dew point, heat adaptation, hydration, clothing, etc) so I will not begin to quote any of the formulas out there. Just focus on consistent EFFORT and let the pace fall where ever it falls.

We all will be so highly evolved that we will no longer need cars. We will just sprint everywhere, even across star systems.
Or we will be dead. One of the two is pretty likely.2
