Oh gosh, @rheddmobile I'm sorry to hear about your tick bite and that you can't get in. I don't know but I would keep calling my doctor's office until they agreed to see me if I still had a fever. I can't believe the situation with health care professionals not wearing masks! Just inconceivable.
@ContraryMaryMary nice job on the temp! Way to beat the mental struggle and get it done.

I slept very poorly last night, and was very close to bailing on my 6:30 am date (so early for me!) with hill repeats. I knew that I wouldn't want to run by myself later and it was currently not raining so I grumpily went. We did 40 minutes of hill repeats, which is less than our usual but one guy had to leave early. Then we did a challenge to practice breathing through your nose while you run by holding a mouthful of water the whole time. We did 4 laps/mile, which was hard but not as bad as I thought. You really have to concentrate on breathing deeply and rhythmically through your nose. Apparently this is a training technique that some native American tribes (Apaches particularly) used for endurance and discipline - and because water might be scarce so you hold it in your mouth and not just sip for convenience. I used to practice this a bit when I would get side stitches to help those pass as well as on hot days to hold water in my mouth to cool down, but never for anything like a mile at a time. It was interesting to try. After that I just finished up to get to 5 miles for the day.
So, to sum up, another day of:7 -

@rheddmobile I don't know if telemedicine is an option in your area or not, my insurance has something where you can virtually consult with a doctor and get prescriptions if necessary (although I haven't used it myself yet).

Somehow I hurt my back while sleeping - my tailbone is very sore. No idea what happened, it may just be part of being over 40. It hurts to START running, but then is okay once I'm actually going. Even so, I decided to take it easy today because I don't want to make anything worse.7 -
07/01-07/16: 19.8
07/17: 5.3
I have been slacking a little lately. I just got a new puppy. I initially wanted a large dog that eventually could be my running buddy, but due to unusual circumstances I ended up with a small Teddy Bear Shichon. I tried to post pictures here, but for some reason the app wouldn't let me. Anyway, I have been struggling a little with my 10K training. Luckily I was able to put 5 miles today. Have a good weekend and happy running everyone! 🤗

Partly cloudy, low 70s F, and very humid today. Back was a little niggly -- just about how it usually is. Sun came out during the last 2k and my energy and strength just melted away. Still, it was the best 7k I've run since June 20.
@ContraryMaryMary Holy *kitten*!!!! Those are great times!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles

Read through all of the posts from the past few days. Lots happening. TGIF.
Welcome @deraffemikey06 !
@rheddmobile sorry to hear about the bite. I wonder if they couldn't do a telemedicine appt, show them a picture, check your fever and prescribe from that, at least a basic antibiotic. Lyme disease is scary. Stupid Covid!
@katharmonic Love the picture. And absolute truth, with most exercise in general.
@kgirlhart I am really good at shivasana too....the other poses not so much. The dogs are so cute. I have a tapper too. I am not allowed to not be petting her when I am within reach. Tap.tap.tap.
@shanaber Hobbes is so cute. Glad you have a race goal set! Just checked out the Blerch....cartoon is hysterical!
@PastorVincent OMG...hiking boots? So funny! That would have been challenging. Love the greenhouse. I have toyed with trying to put in some raised beds, totally fenced off due to the deer etc. Decided to start with trying to propagate some Pride of Barbados from the seed pods. They do really well in our heat, deer don't eat them, etc. If I can do that, then maybe some food.
@quilteryoyo Glad that your cousin will be settled soon.
@ContraryMaryMary Amazing cake and amazing conquering those voices in the your head and letting your legs win! That is such a skill!
Trying to get in a walk or run 3 days a week. I really miss the trail. I don't want to run in a mask and its packed right now with people and TX is on fire with Covid so I am sticking to the road in my hood. This too shall pass, I keep telling myself.
Doing lots of riding too. A huge challenge next Saturday - 5 1hour hill climbs, back to back that are supposed to be like riding up Haleakula Volcano on Maui. I will take breaks and eat/drink/ etc and go really slow. Its a mental challenge as much as physical, like a marathon. 🌴🗻
Enjoy the weekend and happy running!

@rheddmobile
Can you call and see if your doctor will call in a 'script for you, since you know you had a tick bite? You really should probably get started on them as soon as possible.
@katharmonic
Way to get out there and do it, even though you weren't feeling it. I can't imagine trying to hold a mouthful of water while running a mile.
@janejellyroll
It's always a good idea to listen to your body. Hope it feels better tomorrow.

@rheddmobile I agree on telehealth / doctor call if that is an option for you.
It wasn't a lone star tick, I presume? Just a basic dog tick?1 -
@T1DCarnivoreRunner Isn't it the deer tick (teeny tiny seed tick), that also transmits Lyme ? @rheddmobile I like the telemed idea, definitely stay safe, we do not want you sick or dead. If you have a fever, they may insist on telemed, huh?1

Just checking in! I fell way behind and did not have time or energy to read 10+ pages lol
I have not walked hardly at all. We had a miserable heat wave so I stayed in my air conditioning. The weather is tolerable again but I still haven't been on more than a couple walks.
I don't know what it is. I love hiking, so I'm sure it would be different if I lived in the country and had more to look at, but I just do not enjoy walking. I hate it. It's boring and it just makes me sad that I can't run.
We have a world famous biking trail within driving distance, so I'm going to take the dogs and try to walk a part of that. They deserve to get out, at least.
Only 5 more weeks (or less) till we meet our little boy and I can hopefully get back to running!
(For anyone curious, look up the Elroy-Sparta bike trail)8 -
@T1DCarnivoreRunner Isn't it the deer tick (teeny tiny seed tick), that also transmits Lyme ? @rheddmobile I like the telemed idea, definitely stay safe, we do not want you sick or dead. If you have a fever, they may insist on telemed, huh?
Could be a deer tick also, yes. The lone star tick is what I fear most. Would be a big problem with my diet.1 -
So with the combination of extreme heat, humidity, COVID, wife's aunt living with us, etc.. wife actually suggested that we get a treadmill for our (belated) anniversary gift to each other. I have been looking all around north Dallas for a good one (but has to be under $1000). Found several options, but no store has any in stock! Guess everybody bought them up in the early days of lockdown, and I am late to the party. A few stores say they might get some in at the end of August, but that really doesn't help me (us) for the next couple months.
I know...first world problems7 -

Yep, it appears to have been an adult male deer tick. Got it at WC Johnson where there are lots of deer. I don’t think it was attached long, it was perfectly flat and dried up. Nasty local lesion but not a bullseye rash. I hear you about the lone star ticks, as a diabetic that alpha gal allergy terrifies me! I would have to live on nothing but chicken and fish!
The week wait IS for telemed! My doctor isn’t doing anything other than telemed (there is a covid testing center there now instead of a clinic) but it’s still a long wait. One of those where you go to make the appointment and the person on the phone sighs heavily and says “We can’t get you in until...” clearly expecting you will just say, fine, don’t bother, I will die quietly in the corner and not involve you.
Memphis is a mess right now, we had 700 new Covid cases day before yesterday, and testing is at 100% capacity.7 -
@Scott6255 Sorry about the treadmill. That stinks. Can you order one online, directly from the manufacturer?
@rheddmobile Wow! A week's wait for telemed? That's crazy.0 -
@Scott26655 Looks like there is one here where I live. Its a drive, but you could make a weekend trip and get one. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/proform-carbon-t10-treadmill#repChildCatid=7792069 Of course, I'd call the store first. They are do-do's here. Maybe sherman-denison, gainsville area even. I suppose if you wanted to buy it, I could talk DH into fetching it. I go to Dallas tuesday, but I have a little car, doubt it'd fit. But I could conceivably meet you somewhere's. I have a broke leg again, so I'm not much muscle.
... Or could stick it in the garage for you to come fetch. (where cat will pee on the box).

Thanks Elise, that is a good suggestion and a very nice offer. The treadmill is for BOTH my wife and I (she walks, I run). She can't do any real walking with her aunt attached to her hip, so she wanted to have a treadmill for the house so she can sit her aunt in front of a puzzle for an hour and walk.
I think I found one (used) on my NextDoor app. Supposed to go see it next week. Hopefully it is in good shape.
Thanks all for the suggestions. I knew I can always count on good advice from this group6 -

See a doctor of course, but for a tic to pass Lymes it has to be on for a while. That is why it is important to check as soon as possible.
From the Mayo Clinic:The bacteria enter your skin through the bite and eventually make their way into your bloodstream. In most cases, to transmit Lyme disease, a deer tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours. If you find an attached tick that looks swollen, it may have fed long enough to transmit bacteria4 -
Catching up on 200+ posts! Somehow lost a more than 1200 day logging streak last week without even noticing. Ah well! I’ve been doing the running and training regardless and I guess I will build a new streak!
Schools in the UK are finally out for summer. I’m going to take it easy this weekend and then really focus on my fitness for the next six weeks. Gyms reopening on 27th!
Have done three runs this week so far. Yesterday was hot and horrible but hoping to be out early for a long run tomorrow.

Sunny, low 70s F, and miserably humid today. Not as good a run as yesterdays -- but still OK.
Got to see the comet Neowise last night. It was pretty clear through binoculars, but I couldn't see it with my naked eyes. Mosquitoes were glad I went out to look.

I slogged out 10 miles this morning. It says it was 73 degrees when I started but it felt much worse. I was slow going with a few walk breaks but we eventually made it. That's my first double digit run this month. It certainly felt like I haven't done that in a long time.5 -
@rheddmobile Wow....a week for telemed. That stinks. Hang in there/
@janejellyroll sorry about the sore back. I wake up sore most days - gotta be age....it does work itself out pretty fast though but still frustrating.
@Tramboman We were outside last night at around 9:30 cst looking for our comet friend. No luck. It was clear, the stars were all there but we were searching under the big dipper, between the north star and dipper ie NW. No luck. We have some weakish binoculars. Maybe too much light in our hood. We will try again tonight. Glad you caught it. I love space. I don't love mosquitos and they were well fed!
@Scott6255 Hope the treadmill works out. The other idea is to see if any gyms are closing down...they may be selling equipment. I need some bigger dumb bells and they are not for sale anywhere.
I saw this challenge pop up on my instagram feed. The Food Run Challenge. They currently have it in 6 regions but I think you can choose any of them if your state is not represented. You sign up for distance that you commit to covering each week over 6 weeks. The money raised from the fees go towards food banks and hunger relief programs. I like it because its running, walking and biking. I can hit all 3! I will do the Texas one and shoot for 20 miles a week or 120 miles (also have 30,60,90 as options). @Scott6255 Yeah for a good run when you were feeling poorly.
@Tramboman I want to go out and see the comet before it disappears. The mosquitoes will be happy when I do too.
@katharmonic Good for you for slogging it out and getting it done.
I played singles tennis again this morning, for about 1.5 hours. It was hot. We were sweaty. But it was fun. I toyed with running when I got home, but took a shower instead. I probably will have to take Monday as a rest day, so I hope to make myself get up early in the morning and run before Facebook Church.2 -
