@katharmonic My ouchies were fine while playing tennis. They never did turn really black and blue, as I expected. I just think that is weird. It hurts to touch the areas, but not running or walking, so I'm good to go. Thanks for asking. Tennis was fun, but I was having an off day. It happens sometimes.
@mbaker566 Looks like a really nice place for a walk/run. The dogs looked like they really enjoyed it too.
@bearly63 I think it was probably a couple of rocks. They hurt when slung out by the mower at a fast pace.
@Faebert You are doing great!
@marisap2010 Love those shoes and that is a great deal!
@katharmonic I need to up my running too. I've been playing tennis more and can't seem to fit both into the day.

Ok, round two. Are you ready?
A watermelon cake for Miss 8 - actually vanilla cake with raspberry coulis and raspberry buttercream inside. Her birthday is in April, the heart of watermelon season here, but lockdown delayed the party till now, when the only watermelon are in cake form!
Thanks for all the positive comment on my previous cake. I thoroughly enjoyed making it, but I wouldn't want to do it day in and day out. Just a few times a year for a big celebration cake (or twice in one week as it has turned out) is enough. I do bake quite a bit though - it's one of the reasons I run!10 -

Good to hear.
Hell Have No Hurry dropped to 10k only, so I am passing on that, that was going to be my target 50k for a PR this year. The fact they moved it to AUGUST was brutal though so probably would not have gone well.
Right now the only race I am signed up for is the EQT 10 miler, but I have no real confidence in it. I have pretty much written off the 2020 race season and will see how 2021 looks.

Been several days since I have run, but we have made progress on the greenhouse!We will hold off on the plastic until fall. Just putting up fencing, for now, to keep deer out. Should with a decent dollop of luck be able to start growing food in it this weekend.

Neat, but how tall is the fence? I've seen deer jump some pretty high fences...0 -
What have I done! Gone off the rails, put on 20 pounds and whilst the job I am doing is physically hard work it is not running and the marathon is 9 weeks away. Okay, reset, target, plan.7

Start back with a very steady 10k in 65 minutes. My training plan is in place for 5 runs a week (2 x short, 2 x 10-15k and 1 x long), see how my body feels but no excuses!7 -

Oh, they COULD jump this, they can jump 8 feet in vertical height, but they are not likely too. They would need to be spooked or there would need to be a food shortage. Most of the time 3 or 4-foot garden fences are enough to deter them. There is plenty of vegetation growing right now so they probably will not bother it.

Many of you new to the challenge have heard us talk about Kevin, aka MobyCarp. He was a great runner, smart about the sport he loved and always quick with sound advice and a great story. It was one year ago yesterday, doing what he loved, he suffered a cardiac event that took him from us. If you only listen to one piece of his advice, this is the one. Listen to your body it knows what is best for it.
I think of Kevin all the time, he has been dearly missed.

@ContraryMaryMary That cake is soooo cute! You do an excellent job. Bet it tastes as good as it looks.
@PastorVincent The greenhouse is looking good. Hope you are able to grow a lot of good veggies in there.
@TheMrWobbly It is so easy to put on weight when your activity level changes. You've got this!
Great tribute to @MobyCarp , @skippygirlsmom . I didn't realize it had been a year already. He is missed.3 -

Sunny, 60 degrees F, but humid today. Made my wife laugh when I told her I was thinking about putting winter gear on this morning. Back felt good, thought I started off well, but was about 30 seconds behind the pace I thought I was running. After that, I started feeling every one of my 68 years and was glad to just finish. Song in my head today was "The Nutty Squirrels (Part 2)". Queen Anne's Lace is blooming.
Like @PastorVincent, think this is going to end up being a lost year.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Oh @skippygirlsmom I didn't realize yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of @MobyCarp passing. He was a true inspiration to me (and most of us). I should have remembered that, as yesterday was our wedding anniversary (35 years 😲)
4 miles for me this morning. Reduced walking intervals to about a minute after each mile. Only 4 miles, but felt a lot more with the 81F at 5:30am!

Thank you for posting that, @skippygirlsmom. MobyCarp was a true inspiration, mentor and friend to us here in this group. I always hoped to meet him because he was less than 2 hours away from me but I never got the chance. I too think of him and his advice often.
Happy anniversary @Scott6255
LOVE those shoes @marisap2010!
@ContraryMaryMary another amazing cake. I am dying to taste these!
@TheMrWobbly great start on your comeback. Steady effort will get you there again.
@PastorVincent that's a cool greenhouse structure! Looks like you'll be able to have quite a garden in there. Good luck with the deer.

I ran a 3 mile warmup at the track this morning, and then we did a sprint workout followed by a kettlebell/dumbbell workout:
6 sprints (50 m each)
3 x 6 tuck jumps + 1 sprint
3 x 6 handclap pushups + 1 sprint
3 x 6 skaters + 1 sprint
Followed by (all of these with 30 lb dumbbell):
5 x Turkish getups 1 each side + 6 single leg deadlifts each side
3 x Reverse lunge 10 x each side with 10 sec hold + 20 mountain climbers
100 dumbbell swings (50 each arm)
That was killer - I have not been using weights much and 30 lbs was tough for me. My glutes are going to feel this one later.

It was a beautiful 55F this morning when I ran. I had to drop some food off at my church so I ran in the local park. The trail is only a 1 mile loop but has a lot of hills so it’s challenging. I did a 30 minute yoga routine before I left the house to help me wake up. It would have been nice to do again once I ran, but work awaited.
@mbaker566 – Beautiful pictures. I love old girl’s fluffy tail!
@janejellyroll – Love your description of zoning out on a good run.
@marisap2010 – Pretty shoes and great price!
@ContraryMaryMary – Can I place an order now for my birthday in March? Beautiful “watermelon” cake and it sounds delicious!
@PastorVincent – What will you be growing? Isn’t it late in the season to be planting for your area?
@TheMrWobbly – You can do it!
Thank you @skippygirlsmom for that tribute to @MobyCarp! I will always remember him jogging through his house while his eggs were cooking in order to test out any niggles he might be having.
That’s quiet a workout @katharomic! I would bust my nose trying to do a handclap pushup!

Yes, we are very behind for the year for planting outside, but the nice thing about a greenhouse is you can grow year-round if you build it right. We plan to get there, for now, we will just be extending the season several months.

Today's run was kind of tough. When I got up my weather app said it was 84° feels like 87°F. It wasn't terribly humid though at only 45-50%, but it was still hot and I was feeling really slow. I did manage to run 6 miles and had a pace of 10:59. I usually try to keep it under 11 so I made it, but barely . But honestly with the heat I wasn't paying too much attention to my pace. I listened to Zombie's Run and beat all the zombie chases, so there was a little bit of speed work. I guess all in all it was an ok run. I'm getting a little weary of the heat though. It was 108°F yesterday and I don't even know what the heat index was. And it should be about the same today so I guess 86° at sunrise is about the best we can hope for.
@marisap2010 Nice shoes!
@ContraryMaryMary Beautiful cake! Perfect for a little girl's birthday!
@Scott6255 Hope you had a Happy Anniversary!
@skippygirlsmom I miss @MobyCarp too and I think of him often. He had a lot of wisdom to share.

230 Posts Behind! What the heck!
I guess I have been busy….. took last week basically completely off, except finishing the Binge on Monday. Then signed up for the Stunner – Dawnbreaker = 93k. Then Thursday made an impromptu trip to my hometown (it’s only a couple hours away) to pick up a birthday gift from my daughter’s friend, then Friday I took off work and took the kids to the lake and their dad met us there so he could see them for a couple of hours, then watched scary movies Friday night, then Saturday my daughter had a virtual sleepover (basically a very, very long facetime call with her friends, late at night) and then Sunday we did church online and I did laundry and normal people nonrunning things – like catch up on laundry and gardening and just Netflix and Chill with my kids. It’s been a pretty great week.
The Stunner started last night. Just 6K to start. It’s interesting how priorities and time available for running shift when the kids are with me and not their dad. When they were with their dad, I’d have hammered out ten miles after work but when they are with me it just doesn’t seem to be that important to be so competitive or work so hard. Just spending time with the kids and running a little bit is enough for me.
I am going to aim for 93K though, because it’s just forty six-ish miles. Also, I only have four distances to complete and I have from yesterday until the 19th to complete it. Which means I’ll even be able to take time to rest!
I also have to say – I’m pretty impressed with aravaipa’s race packets. I think what happened last time – and what is happening this time – is that they try to make your packet worth your race registration. I always end up with extras that I didn’t ask for. Which is totally fine with me!
I have zero pain anywhere and have continued the PT and strength training/ lifting. I’m hoping I can do this without further injury.
How’s everybody doing? What are you running? How’s the weather? What are you eating? @Avidkeo – any cake? I want cake….
@Scott6255 Happy Anniversary!
@TheMrWobbly you GOT THIS!
marisap2010 I want those shoes! I did a couple of their races but didn’t want to spend the money on the medals…. I know, now I’m spending money on Aravaipa. It was a different time when I felt that way, lol. Good job on getting such a deal! How do they fit?
@ContraryMaryMary I want that cake…. Holy crap it looks so good!
@hamsterwheel6 I was just talking with my twin brother about that time I was coming up to the coast in Portland this year and how then we had to cancel. I’m glad you got to go! I can’t wait to be able to travel again!
@katharmonic – great pics!

Happy 35th anniversary @Scott6255 !
Another awesome workout @katharmonic ! I don't know how you do it!
@Teresa502 Sounds like a really nice morning for a run.
@Camaramandy648 I'm okay. The areas are just sore to the touch. Activity doesn't hurt. So, I have no excuses. Thanks for asking. I'm glad that you are running pain free. I was really afraid your long runs a couple of weeks ago would make things worse for you.0
