    July Goal: 100 Miles

    7/1: 6.51 miles
    7/2: 6.02 miles
    7/5: 10.10 miles
    7/7: 6.22 miles
    7/8: 6.05 miles
    7/9: 6.08 miles

    40.98/100 miles completed for July

728.8/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders

I had a really nice 10 mile run this morning.  I was kind of thinking it would be one of those runs you just have to suffer through. I got out the door around 6:45 this morning and it was 84°F feels like 87°F. But the humidity was just around 75% and the dew point was around 65°. Not ideal running weather,  but it has been worse. It's 105°F feels like 111°F right now, so I can't complain too much. It was windier than I like, but it did help quite a bit with the heat. There were a few stretches where the wind was gusting like crazy, but all in all it was a nice run. I tried to not worry about pace and just enjoy running for the sake of running. And I ended up with an average pace of 11:18 which is a bit slower than my usual pace, but I thought it was good given the conditions.  I saw a rainbow. We didn't get any rain, but I guess somewere off to the west they had a few sprinkles, enough for a partial rainbow. I also saw some rabbits and cows. I saw someone I  knew moving his water sprinkler so I asked if I could run through and he said sure. It's funny how I thought it would probably be kind of a miserable run, but it wasn't.  It was definitely hot, but when I got home I didn't feel like I was going to die and I even thought about running a little further.  But the sun was really up by then and I decided I should end on a high note.

@quilteryoyo That looks painful. Glad you took a rest day.

@hamsterwheel6 I'm glad your vacation was nice. I love the beach. Not so much the beach in Texas, but we used to go to Myrtle Beach when I was a kid and it was always so beautiful.

@katharmonic Those hiking pictures are awesome!

Since our secondary passion around here seems to be food - cake in particular - I made this chocolate extravaganza for my brother's 50th on the weekend. Bottom was four layers of chocolate cake drizzled with Baileys and filled with mocha buttercream, top had three layers of kid friendly chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and cherry jam. All finished with salted caramel macarons:

I'm busy in the kitchen again now as Miss Eight is insisting she has a party because her birthday was during lockdown. More cake porn tomorrow...

We need a drooling reaction for this one. :open_mouth:

@ContraryMaryMary - Words can't do it justice! If that cake tasted half as good as it looks (which I'm sure it did) then I just gained 10 pounds ❣️🤯🍰🎂

@ContraryMaryMary That cake looks and sounds so delicious! I am in awe of all of you talented bakers.

@kgirlhart Glad you had a good run, especially when you thought it would be miserable. Those runs are nice to have.

Heading out for some singles tennis in a few minutes.

@quilteryoyo how are your ouchies today? Hopefully feeling ok - have fun playing tennis!

@hamsterwheel6 glad you had a good vacation and got some running in. Running on the beach always sounds so lovely but I've found it to be really tough the few times I've done it.

@kgirlhart great job on your nice 10 mile run - it's great when it feels not as miserable as expected :)

@ContraryMaryMary OMG that cake is so amazing! I can't imagine making that and it sounds incredible.

I had to get up early to go pick up Stella from the dog hotel, and I haven't made it out to run yet. This is a big mistake I'm sure with thunderstorms in the forecast for later.

    7/1/20 – 5.02 miles
    7/4/20 – 14.02 miles
    7/6/20 – 5.15 miles
    7/8/20 – 11.01 miles

    7/12/20 – 4 miles

Yesterday, I biked 18 miles on the Creeper Trail and then got off the bike and ran 4 miles. I don’t know how you triathletes do it! I felt like I was running through knee-deep molasses! I had planned to take today as a running rest day but started a new challenge through work where you are awarded points each day for that days activity and wouldn’t you know it, today’s points are awarded based on the number of steps taken during the day…..

@katharmonic – What amazing views from those summits! Gorgeous!

@hamsterwheel6 – The only beach I have been able to run on is Hilton Head. Love their hard packed sand!

@ContraryMaryMary – OMG! That cake not only sounds delicious but it is amazingly beautiful! You are quite talented!

Long hiatus from the board... revising some goals... I will figure a mileage goal for the rest of the month and start back in earnest in August. Just hired a personal trainer/nutrition advisor to revamp my goals... hope to be adding some 50ks on my schedule in the coming months, but we will see. Good to see some of the "old-timers" still here.

Welcome back! A lot of folks were asking about you, LoneWolf, and uh... our lovable divorce atty!

@ContraryMaryMary Amazing! Love it..you have skills.
@quilteryoyo Eek. Hope your wounds are better!
    @katharmonic lovely pics!
    @mbaker566 cool pics as well!
@kgirlhart Myrtle Beach is not too far from here as well. I do like it there, but it’s really crowded right now.
    Good run!

I’ve usually been lucky running on the beach here. However this time I do not know. Nature had other things in mind. Lol.

Wanted to sleep in after yesterday’s hot long run. So hopped on the treadmill for 5K and then some strength training before “going” to work..ie kitchen table. Ha. Was like I never left. Sigh.
Oh! We did order a spin bike and it comes Thursday! I’m kind of excited to do some cross training, and not battling the heat!

Chicago Marathon just canceled... I was not in it, but several runners I know were. It was the right move but still stinks.

I’ve been doing some of the Rock n Roll Virtual Races and spent some of the points I earned on these Launch 7’s. I ended up only paying $70, which I thought was a good deal.

    Love the color!

I ended up running at 5 pm after work today and thought it would be miserable with the heat and threat of thunderstorms all day - which hadn't yet happened. After sitting all day my legs were pretty stiff and sore so the beginning of the run was rough. But all in all, it was not nearly as bad as I expected. There was a little breeze and the heat and humidity weren't oppressive. I ran out and back along the canal and felt better on the second half than the first as I loosened up a little. The rain came a little bit after I got home but still no storms. I really shouldn't have just looked hopefully at the forecast for tomorrow morning - 90% humidity will be fun!

I need to pick up the mileage if I'm going to make my goals for this month. I don't think I have more really long hikes planned so hopefully I will have it in me to add on to my daily runs a bit.
